Cat d4g won't move

Dozer stopped dead in it's tracks yesterday while backing up. The left joy stick is completely dead, save the horn button and travel speed buttons. No forward, no reverse, no turns. Brake pedal is up all the way up. Parking brake is off. Please help. Work waiting, conditions dry, but rain in forecast. I would hate to call in a rental machine.

Machine maintenance

What's the best way to keep record of when who greased machine, checked fluids etc? Check sheet? Not a lot of room in the cab of equipment for a notebook. Ideas?

JD 310D steer cylinder rebuilt kit

First post here, so thanks in advance. I just picked up a JD 310D hoe and I pulled the steering cylinder apart today to put a new seal kit in it. I tried going through my local JD dealer before ordering online but they where stumped so I ordered the kit from EPS out of Atlanta along with a couple other seal kits since I had to have an order over $80 to proceed I figured I would surely need to rebuilt other seals somewhere. My machine is a 95 model and has serial number: TO310DA813849. The kit I ordered is supposed to be for that serial number but I've definitely got the wrong kit. Anyone have a JD seal guru I can order a kit from.

Thanks

Dave

Hydraulic rotary joint on Altec LR4 50

I had a leak on my Rotary joint. [LR4 50 Altec]

When I replaced it both of my upper cylinders put pressure against each other bending the upper cylinder.

I am almost positive I put the hoses back correctly. What could make this happen? Currently my boom is inoperable. I can make it move but only when I move 2 controls at once. And then it is slow and seems to be only working intermittently at best. Other than having a leak, it worked fine before I took it apart. Any ideas?

Hoses on backwards? Debris in lines? Air in lines?

Also now when it starts up it is engaged without touching any controllers. I have to turn my pony motor off or as soon as i start it seems to put pressure against each of the cylinders to the degree that it bends the cylinder.

Thanks for your time:Banghead:confused:

Hitachi ex55ur travel on rightside is very weak

Have lost almost all power to one side of travel only in forward. If i hold blade up or move blade power is restored. I am being told it is a spool issue. Is this hard to fix on own or is there anyone good to have this type of work done. Once one spool is being worked on should all of them be rebuilt.

Cat 426B Hard Starting

I have a 426B backhoe that has been hard starting for the 3-4 years I have owned it. Only the initial start is hard each day; once it has run it starts immediately. It runs fine, doesn't burn oil, and rarely produces black smoke. The engine is a Cat turbo 3054 or Perkins 1004 depending on which numbering system you prefer. Shortly after acquiring it the gear drive water pump went out so I opted to perform an in-frame replacement of the engine bearings due to the ethlene glycol in the oil. It turned into a, "while I am at it" project with fresh rings and a valve job. Best I can recall cold cranking compression was around 550 psi, although I am not certain. It has two good batteries with good, clean cables. Running voltage is 13.45, key off 12.40, and cranking 10.75. It spins over quite well. There is no smoke while cranking, with a small black puff upon firing up. This is on 75 degree days. It can take a number of 30 second crank cycles to get it going although it will kick off rapidly with a small sniff of ether. The manifold heater doesn't seem to help during summer temps, although it does make a difference in the winter. The lift pump provides 5 psi of fuel pressure within two seconds of cranking. The injection pump is a Stanadyne DB2. All the filters have been replaced and the fuel suction line to the tank has been blown out. Any thoughts?
