New Truck Weight

lundi 21 mars 2016

Their thinking about buying a new daycab cummins 10sp Tractor. Their old one is older and dosent use DEF. Is there any way to get a new truck as light as the old one? They have been shoping around and this seems to be a problem.

Cat 938M, repair costs

I'm looking for some opinion on the Cat 938M, we are considering purchaseing several of these units and would like to get an idea of what costs might be associated with the Tier 4 engine as well as other components and their expected life span. I know these are fairly new but any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Re-Bob Ont

Hi everyone, I noticed that there have been no posts from Bob in the last couple of weeks (we are both from Ont.) & I then called his wife who informed me that he had passed away quite suddenly on March 7th. I had sent him a private email around the 10th (not knowing) & there was no reply which aroused my suspicions that something may be wrong.

She then asked me to let the forum members know, to which I agreed to do so, thinking everyone would appreciate knowing. I explained to her just how helpful his advice was over the years & she was very touched by that.

Cat 289C wont move / moves slowly

Cat 289c skid steer, 2010. Everything works fine on it except it has serious trouble moving forward and reverse. It will start out fine for the first second and then it slows down to barely a crawl. Same in reverse, throttling up seems to help, which makes me think it is a brake problem?? It will spin left and right fine, full speed, bucket works fine. It did have the code for LH joystick under / over voltage in its memory, no active codes. I dont have cat ET....but the monitor in the cab shows full percentage of the movement of the joystick. Any thoughts? Thanks

some work pictures by BuMach

Hey guys,

I have posted some pictures on another thread and they suggested me to open my own thread. So this is gonna be it.

i'm a self employed mechanic from the Netherlands,
started out 3 years ago and business is going strong.

i'm specialised (for as much as it can) in:
- mobile line-boring,
- undercarraige repairs and modifications,
- pin and bushings removale and installing,
- starting to do bucket repairs and modifications.
and all the other repairs that i can do, but i'm trying to get enough work with the top 4 points off work.

I've got a fully loaded service van (volkswagen Crafter 50 for the fans) and i'm trying to make the step to buy/build a service truck complete with crane etc etc. But thats more for the future.

555 Ford Backhoe,Transmission not working right

I bought a 555 ford backhoe (1981) it sat for over a year or two it was working fine then it started to slow down and barely moved we drained the oil and it was milkey white the filter weighed about 3 pounds with sludge in it flushed with half Diesel fuel and hyd.oil under no load tires spin very good under a load you have to speed up the engine until it starts to move we took off the filter and no oil is going through it there was no metal in the oil either . Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome

How many hrs is too many

I'm looking at buying a Cat 325 excavator
One I've looked at is a 2004 325 cal with hydraulic thumb it has 7200 hrs
I can buy it for around 60k
Is that too many hrs? I know it's all relative so to speak with the price. But, I've heard that around 9k hrs pumps start going bad and this, that. And around that point is where you must start replacing or repairing all major components. Again I know that would vary depending on how well machine was taken care of.
Ok the other hand I've found a 2006 Cat 325dl
It only has 5500 hrs but it cost around $100k
Which would be better?

Just hoping someone can elaborate a little from experience on hrs relating to repairs. Thanks in advance.
