1996 Pete 379 N14 Engine Brake

Working on a 1996 379 Peterbilt with the Cummins N14 with Celect ECM. Engine brake is inop. I'm looking for wiring schematic to figure out location of the OEM engine brake relay. I have access to cummins QuickServe Online, so I got the engine side covered. Hoping someone has a Peterbilt schematic that will help me out. Truck is beat, relay box in cab has no cover and nothing's labeled. Thanks

I was using my Cat 248 this morning to clear snow and the oil light/beeper came on. Within a few seconds I heard a rod knock and tried to get the machine turned around and off the road, but it locked up tight a few seconds later. I'm pretty upset about this, I didn't check but I think there are just 1300+ hours on it and I've serviced it as recommended since new. I always let the machine warm up before working it hard and let it cool down before shutting it off.

So Im thinking of buying this 1981 Kenworth dumptruck with 3406 Cat engine and ( I think) an 8LL trans. All seems well maintained and owner very forthright but something bugging me. The trans has a Dee reduction low switch,(on dash)and a hi lo range switch on front of shift lever like normal. The shift pattern is whats bugging me Reverse is up left like normal. Then it seems to be down for 1st 2 and 3 like normal then over to far right and DOWN for 4th so far so good I have driven a 1983...

well guys i was able to pick this cat thirty up. the only reason why i pick it up is because of the blade set up it's got. the U/C is not bad but the motor well it's something els. ran when parked in the 60's lol but since then it's been under water 2 times and well time not been nice to some of her. 2 crack jugs on the water jacket side. BIG cracks that been welded up on the block , wrong mag , 3 broken valve springs that i can see. going to need a long winter to put this all right....

I have a 2009 CTL 85 with a Kobota engine. I have just over a 1000 hrs on it. The other day the high range travel quit working. When you turn the key on the idiot light works . Im back to running our B model more and when curling a tree root it seems like its bogging down too soon. I was thinking of checking relief pressure. On the steel boom cylinder lines there are JIC caps. I was thinking of welding a CAT male quick connect fitting to those caps and watching gauge while in relief. Would this be an acceptable way to test? Are these relief valves preset? Im sure everything is discontinued.

Small fluxcore welder

I used a 110 welder years ago with flux core to weld patch pannels on a pickup but i dont remember how ir worked. I have some work Now i could use a cheap light welder to weld some sheet metal and exhaust pipe. Their is enough welding that it will be worth spending the money to buy some thing rather than haul my big welder and tank or would it be worth geting a small mig and small bottle?

I'm new to this forum and to this machine. All functions work well but the dipperstick has very little power. Meaning it will move with no load and the engine pulls down slightly when it does. I do not know how to read the hour meter. Left side of the meter, there are 4 digits in black.then 2 digits in white. These are not digital numbers. they are on a wheel.
When I purchased this used machine the meter read: 4742 in black & 31 in white.Currently the meter reads: 4900 28 So doing the math am I correct ntosay that in the8 years that I have owned this machine I added 157.97Hours?

the problem must be between the switch and soleinde. maybe bad soleinde....

I have a new holland 555e backhoe that i installed a factory reman shuttle and reman torque converter. Started the machine for the first time and can't get any movement. Installed some gauges and I have no torque converter pressure or system pressure on the shuttle. It's full of oil,, I think I can't get the transmission pump to prime or the torque converter to fill. we have a Timberjack 608 track feller buncher, which I could of posted this in the forestry section but a feller bunch has the same operation as an excavator, from time to time the main boom cylinder will not raise. It will lower but pulling on the joystick it will not raise the boom then in 10 seconds or sometimes longer holding on the joystick it will finally raise & then be fine for 15-20 minutes & then do it again. I've got a 410 (not letter series) that is missing the hydraulic reservoir cap and dipstick. Does anyone know how long the dipstick is supposed to be and how far up the full mark is?
Also, when you put the machine in gear and engage the reverser it takes several seconds to start moving after you let out on the clutch. Any ideas about that?

188d oil pump O-ring

Hello again,

I have taken off the oil pump during a out of frame rebuild on a case 188d out of my 68 580ck. I’m not sure if there is a special nylon seal for the oil pump to block transition or if it is just a standard o ring. The old one was very hard, Black and cracked. Could someone suggest a part number, or will my standard o ring suffice. Will attach picture for reference.

I have no response from the throttle dial in cab. The screen is showing electrical problem. This was after I welded a crack in the the bell housing where the pump attaches to it. I small fire develop in the corner below the throttle motor and it got the throttle motor harness plug hot and melted insulation on 5 or 6 wires. The exhaust ports are all about equally wet with fuel and soot. The exh pipe at the turbo had about 1/2" of wet soot in it - again I feel sure it is fuel. Injectors removed - no obvious damage. Two big batteries, or three small batteries

This applies to all equipment, just not trucks, but I asked here.

for some reason, I seem to have better luck with just two big batteries, as three small ones, even though the CCa adds up around to the same # or even more with the small batteries. Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

And is it just me or are batteries not getting any better. I used to figure 5-7 years, now I feel lucky in the 3-5 year.

We had a heavy dump of snow yesterday (30cm) and the graders were in demand to windrow the streets so we could run our big blower on night shift and get things cleaned up. Yet again, another call out on a machine that wont start when it gets cold. I show up and there is 4 empty cans of starting fluid laying on the ground by the machine. The machine had ice in the fuel line, and after 15 minutes with the forced air heater, it started, BY ITSELF. What say you about ether?

Does anybody have a parts breakdown for the seal kits for a Case 580C-CK backhoe? Serial# 8959109. I'm looking for a kit number for the swing cylinders and can't seem to find a kit for them. Both are leaking and leaving a big puddle while in use and would like to fix them. Also need to repack the extend a hoe but I think I found a kit for it, #1543252C1. Hopefully the number is right. I hate tearing into a cylinder and having to wait for a different seal kit.

Lost two tires on my trailer today, just dropped off track hoe everything was fine, not 5 blocks away and i'm getting pulled over cop behind me and watched my 2 tires blow out from brakes not releasing. I recently got the trailer, no idea on history, but 5 tires were in rough shape, 2 of the ones that blew, so pretty sure this was not the first time brakes had an issue.

Hello, I have a dismantled case g188d.(complete rebuild) I really should have marked everything at tdc comp, but I didn’t. Now that I have the cam out, I have noticed only 1 timing mark which I believe is for the pump idler gear. I have a 1989 Mack Midliner MS200 and I am having a problem getting the cab tilting latch to release.

The directions say to push the latch handle up to release the main latch and then pull down to release the safety catch.

When I push up, nothing happens. When I bought the truck a few years ago the seller was able to unlatch the cab to show me the engine but since then I have been unable to get the latch to release the cab.

RGN trailer front too low if loaded

I have a semi truck and a 48 ft RGN trailer. Both have functioning air bags. Trailer is Trailking TK60MG with mechanical gooseneck.

The problem is that when the RGN trailer is loaded, the front of the bed is too low to the ground. Like just 4 inches off the ground.

My feeling on this is that something flexes and the neck bends in relation to the bed, and it "sags".

I wonder what is the proper way to address it. I thought to buy some steel wedges to insert when hooking up to the trailer,...

My old 690c has one bad pin. It is the dipper pin, it looks like the sleeve in the boom broke free and caused all kinds havoc. I'm having this line bored and welding in a solid shaft with a replaceable sleeve where it will contact the dipper link arm bushings.

The problem is one of the dipper link arms has a bushing that has been slipping (item #4 on the attached image). So I can either bore this out and go with a larger bushing or it will have to be welded up and then...

Now having to prime fuel system. should the lever on the fuel pump should it have some sort of compression with the system not bleed or will it the lever be real easy to move.. Ive had rotten luck with diesel fuel this year... been switching stations to find better fuel and seem to still run into trouble with my equipment freezing.. Ive been using power service products for a couple years now and this year seems to be problem after problem... I do kinda over treat the fuel but not to much over...

I've been working on a p&h 790 and the brake band for the power down just sits there and squeals. Any tricks to eliminate this? I've tried loosening the band and tightening the springs that hold it away from the drum but didn't seem to make a difference

My question is has anyone ran 14x17.5 tires on 465 case? i would like to start to run them for better flotation on that big girl, or if you know of a company doing wider solid tires in the 14x17.5. I started up my 455G loader after a couple months sitting. After a few minutes when I took off the brake I got the transmission pressure warning and the stop light and siren so I shut it off. Looked at the transmission fluid and it appears to be milky with water mixed in it? I ended up preparing to draining the fluid and replace the transmission fluid filter but when I removed the filter it was only about 1/4 full of fluid which I found odd. Need advice on making oil sand

Anyone have any experience making oil sand with motor grader? I've got a dug out select fill pit, with cushion sand left on bottom. I've had some customers hit me up about making oil sand. I was told to make windrows the length of pit. Then oil truck would dump oil between windrows, and then use blade to mix it up. Or use a soil stabilizer mixer. Anyone know the cost of what kind of oil? And what kind of production could one expect in a day? Also been told pugmill is the way more efficient....

Bobcat T300 aux hydo constant flow lock

I have a t300 that will not lock aux hydo flow on. The flow direction switch works fine but the lock switch wont work. The 3 magnet coils all seem to work ok. I am thinking a stuck stem on one of them. I would like to know wich one is the lock on stem. The valve body makes a click noise when the switch is triggered and the atachment will slowly lower but will not work . Thanks

New Holland LX, LS, and L series aftermarket cab and heat

Installed a cab enclosure kit for a New Holland LS180 last week. Kit included the front door with side and upper filler pieces, and sliding side glass windows. Pretty nice fit and finish. Had to notch left side window frame around throttle base, and take care not tighten the side window bolts too tightly. Other than that, it was straight forward to install. Came from Pal-mar.com.

The most annoying part about these machines is finding a small enough heater to install in the tight cab...

T600, not 300. I bought it about 10 years ago so didn't have to wait on trencher for just a bit of digging. It has 8" cut. The gas motor does not burn oil..but I think the unleaded gas was hard on the valves. It runs but not well, not enough power to work it. All the basic functions work. I was talking to the Deere tech about installing single bar pads on my shovel logger and their quote for the pads & labor was almost $13k!

I've got a 410 (not letter series) that is missing the hydraulic reservoir cap and dipstick. Does anyone know how long the dipstick is supposed to be and how far up the full mark is?
Also, when you put the machine in gear and engage the reverser it takes several seconds to start moving after you let out on the clutch. Any ideas about that?

Excavator will not lift boom, my mechanic cant figure it out, engine runs fine tracks drive fine, all functions work except one direction on the off set boom, and the boom will not lift, but if you turn machine off, pull lever up and start machine it will move a couple inches, and then stop? We test wired around the safety lever made no difference. The control lever that does the boom raise function has been very sloppy feeling as long as we have owned the machine, but has never effected...

Help! 1996 Cat 416b Backhoe Hydraulic Pump Vibration

Hi Guys I have a cat 416b 5,000 hrs i have just noticed a good vibration in cab. I looked at the Hydraulic Pump and its really shaking back and forth.... I don't think thats normal. Everything is working normally backhoe and front bucket....a little lack in power but big vibration.

My Mack when I turn the heater blower or any heavy draw on the voltmeter will turn off like the ignition has been turned off and none of accessories that need the ignition in the on position
will work. I have replaced the ignition switch same problem sometimes it will come back to to normal but I need to figure this out. Any and all help would be great thanks in advance

Volvo Mini Excavator ....mechanical question

Hello,
I have a 2006 Volvo Ec15b with low hours (500) it runs fine but has a difficult time starting up.
On a cold start, the engine turns for almost 12-15 seconds before it fires up.
The warmer is it the faster it starts up.

It has a brand new battery and fresh fuel filters.

Is there anything else i can check or change before i play with the fuel pump ?..

I have a 2006 Volvo Ec15b with low hours (500) it runs fine but has a difficult time starting up.
On a cold start, the engine turns for almost 12-15 seconds before it fires up.

It says a synthetic oil is an option (Sullair AWF (1), or SAE 10 SE,SF, SG, CD. Just wondered what others have used in the screw portion? I am operating a Cat D8T here in New Zealand.
It has an engine miss firing problem, usually later in the day when fuel gets lower in the tank. No problem early in the day
We have had the Cat dealer look at it twice, but nothing shows up on their computer, making us think it may be a fuel issue. Have replaced the fuel filters early in the piece, but problem still persists.
