Need Some Control Guidance

dimanche 1 mai 2016

Hey all, first time posting on here, but I've lurked around for awhile soaking up what I can. I'm a younger (20) operator with a couple years experience running skidsteers, wheel-loaders, and occasionally mini-hoe. I got really lucky and worked for a guy who understood I wanted to learn things the right way and actually learn... not just get in a machine and play like a lot of guys my age.

Anyways, my girlfriend and I moved away so she could go to school and my old boss hooked me up with a job running skidsteer (mostly) doing base installation and sub-grade, with some labour at an asphalt paving company. This is great, good pay, good hours (with the exception of it being seasonal) but the entire fleet (20+) of skidsteers are old-school H-pattern, which I'm not the best on.. I can do it, but it takes longer, and I dont enjoy it quite as much as iso controls which I learned on (I know lots of you probably learned on H-pattern, im not hating :) ) I also sometimes feel like im not worth what they are paying me with these controls.

Now with my girlfriend done school we are planning on moving to British Columbia closer to her family later this year, maybe august-sept. I eventually plan on opening a small excavation, or maybe a crushing/aggregate + equipment company.

My question is this: Should I stay here for the money in order to be more secure for our move, and potentially fudge up my iso control skill using these h-pattern controls, or try to work for another company with iso controls for the experience as that is what most companies run these days anyways and what I would run for my company?

Thanks guys.

Massey Ferguson 20C questions

I'm looking at a Massey 20C loader/hoe. I know it's old but it seems to be in real good condition mechanically. Little 3 cyl. perkins runs like a Swiss watch, pins and bushings seem tight, decent cab with 2 post ROPS and good glass, rear tires aren't the best but might make it a couple years, several of the hyd cyls leak a bit,and a god awful green home made paint job. I have owned, fixed and run old equipment most of my life (hell, my main skidsteer is a Bobcat 600, lol) so I can handle most breakdowns and repairs. My question is are there and concerns particular to a 20C I should pay attention to? I never even sat on a Massey Ferguson until now so I don't know squat about this machine except the obvious stuff I mentioned above. The guy wants $6,500, I seem to think it's a fair price. Reason he's selling is he's moving into town and is getting rid of all his stuff like that, so I don't think he's trying to dump a problem child on someone else. This is not a machine I plan doing any outside work with, just a toy for around home and in our woods. Any advise on buying a 20C? Thank's

hitachi 120-5 A/C circuit short

Hey everybody, I'm wondering if anyone has a tip on where to start looking for a short in the a/c circuit on a 120-5 hitachi.

Symptoms are:
-10 amp (I think) a/c fuse blows immediately when installed.
-If 20 amp heater fuse is installed fan blows on high and nothing on the fan/ air/ heat controls works or appears to have any power.

I am hoping/assuming that these two symptoms have the same solution and thought maybe someone else has experienced the same problem. Thanks,

Jamie

Ex military 1986 international 5 yard dump truck

I may sound dumb, but here goes. I just bought an International 5 yard dump, ex military, diesel, with an Allison 5 speed automatic trans. It runs and dumps very well. I am trying to find all the grease fittings and any info I can on maintenance, models, etc. The fellow I bought it from doesn't have any info to help me, other than he bought it at a GSA sale somewhere. I have been operating equipment and owning hoes and trucks for years, but this is my first diesel 5 yard and first Allison auto transmission. I don't want to screw it up. Any manuals or suggestions ? please email

I need help with taking the tilt rams off s205

The tilt rams started leaking really bad and i need to take them off to replace the seals.

It looks like the best option is to put the attachment plate flat and pull all fitting the bolts.

Does this sound right?

JCB 3CIII Leyland 4/98 engine

Well I think I am going to have to finally break down and do something about the engine in my JCB.

Don't know if I can find a good running replacement or if I'm going to have to rebuild it. Thing is I don't use it much. Maybe 100-200 hours a year. That means that I really don't want to dump a ton of money in it and don't use it enough to warrant buying a different TLB.

Anyone know of a source for a god used engine here in the US?

Thanks

Rick
