Cat 305C - Boom slowly going down when cold

dimanche 1 avril 2018

Hi everybody!

I've recently purchased a Cat 305C CR 2008 with 4100 hours on it. Overall the excavator seems in pretty good shape and was correctly maintained.

I'm new to this nonetheless and I've noticed that after starting the excavator (only tested on cold temperature so far - like 30-40F), whenever I lift the bucket with the boom, it very slowly drops down. When the excavator has been running for a few minutes (2 to 4), this seems to go away entirely.

What could be wrong? Anything to...

Terex L20 expansion tanks?

I have a terex loader model L20 I believe. On the right side of the machine by the rear tire are two tanks one smaller than the other. One tank goes to the brake valve and the other goes to the bucket control valve. My question is are these hydraulic expansion tanks, what is there puspose, and does anyone know where I can get a service manual for this machine?

EX120-3 Slew Gear Bearing Grease Dilution

My Ex120-3 Slew Gear Bearing grease is being diluted with hydraulic oil. If this is from the Swing Motor reduction gear, why isn't the level going down? The oil in the reduction gear appears to be hydraulic and not gear oil. If the Swing motor seal is leaking, wouldn't the reduction gear box be overflowing. I guess the swivel is ruled out because it's leakage would be internal. I have recently purchased this machine.

Concrete Thickness Recommendation

I am new to the form and shop talk seemed like where this should go. I'm going to be building a shop in the future and wondering what would be thick enough for heavy equipment, I was thinking 8 inchs thick but The biggest machine I have is a 300 series machine currently but will probably get something bigger in a few years

Wabco scrapers at work

With all the talk about big scraper operator's in California, thought I would give everybody a change of pace. Richardson Contracting out of Columbia South Carolina is still moving dirt with a fleet of Wabco 229F, 339F scrapers. These pictures were taken several years ago in Anderson, South Carolina. I think it was about a million yards at the local airport. They also have 5 TD-40 Dresser dozer for push loading duties. I believe Richardson still operates a fleet of over 30 Wabco's. It's...

New guy intro

Hi everybody, I just joined. I came across the forum when I was researching the JCB 1400B that I should be bringing home pretty soon. It is a 1986, naturally aspirated, 2wd machine with an enclosed cab and a 6 in 1 bucket. It was abandoned on a property that my co-worker bought, so I got a pretty good deal on it. I got it started yesterday and it looks like all the major stuff works after sitting for a two + years. The tachometer is in-op though, most of the hydraulic cylinders seem to...
