I have two control issues with my MTL25 which cause me some concern:
1. When I start the machine, sometimes I immediately have hydraulic power...sometimes it takes minutes. I thought it was a safety switch issue (safetybar / seatbelt / seat pressure / cab closed), but I don't think that is it.
2. When going in reverse, the controls are not right. If going extremely slowly, they are OK...but as soon as I try to go more than about 1/2 mph in reverse, it suddenly jerks to life, and goes faster than I want. Basically control in reverse does not seem to be working proportionally.
The right side controls are good (arm and bucket), very smooth and proportional. The left side controls seem right when going forward. It is only when I go in reverse that there is a problem.
My guess is the pilot valve circuit...either the pilot valves themselves, or the pilot control device/servo piston in the pump that moves the swash plate.
What is the best way to trouble shoot this?
1. The pilot valves do not have the same part number left to right, so I cant simply swap them, so see if the problem changes sides.
2. The pilot valve test procedure does not seem to isolate any of the pump pilot control circuits.
3. It appears there are pilot test ports on the HST pump, but the service manual does not describe a test procedure for testing via these pump ports. See diagram here (http://ift.tt/1srCUkY) ports W4, W5, W14, W15. I have highlighted in red the possible problem areas..
Am I on the right track?
