I am looking to start a small side excavation business that would specialize in small excavation projects such as septic tank installations, driveways, and other small projects. I took a 2 year heavy equipment class were I earned equipment operation certifications for various equipment such as backhoes, trackhoes, dozers, skid steers, tractors and so on. I also obtained my commercial drivers license with many endorsements aand have worked in the industustry for 4 years. I earned my bachelors degree in business administration so I have an idea on business practices. I was thinking of getting a fairly used mini-excavator, skid steer, super duty dump and trailer to start out because I am still going to work fulltime for a guaranteed paycheck and benefits so I am going to keep the business fairly small so I was looking for any advice that is available from people who have already done it on starting this small business?
