Hello all, I have been loving this site! I can't belive how much I have already learned just in the short time I've known about it. Finally got around to signing up and looking forward to being able to "pick your brains". I am the equipment manager for a mid size commercial concrete contractor. I have only been in this position for 7 months now. I was an operator/truck driver for the company and did a lot of mechanic work as well. The owner decided to put me in charge of all trucks and equipment, this is a new thing for him. Before me it was just freelance guys doing triage when something wouldn't operate at all. Upkeep has been costly due to no real mantince. Now I have to get everything up to snuff and then keep it there. We have 40 machines and about 25 trucks and steadily buying more all the time. most of our stuff is cat but we have bobcat, takaechi, and John deer as well. There are ssl's, ctls, telehandlers, and excavators. Our biggest problem is lack of real operators. most time it's just the guy closest to it when they need it. This leaves everyone to say " it was like that when I got on it" and no one knows how it got that way. This is also how they get out of being responsible for checks and grease. So I spend a lot of time with wore out pins and bushings, tore up undercarriages, and broken hydraulic hoses. I have been working with equipment for 17 years now and still enjoy it. These days I like wrenching more then operating, but still do both. I am by no means an expert mechanic but I hold my own. As an operator I do consider myself to be an expert and back up that claim regularly. I really can't wait to soak up all your wisdom and advance my skills. You guys blow me away with imformation you have here. Tom V. Is my new hero, your truck and the work you do is unlike anything I've seen. I hope one day to have a rig like that but for now my f250 service body will have to do.:Banghead well I guess that's plenty about me, if your still reading. Thanks for having me Here!
