Vermeer T-600D trencher one track locks up when moving

Track will move about 5 feet in either direction before locking up. We removed the main drive chain for that side of the machine and the track still locked up, so we isolated the problem to the track itself.

We removed the cover on the final drive and nothing appeared to be locked up inside and it had plenty of grease in it.

Loosened idler wheel and removed track. The final drive gear spun by hand without any problems and didn't have any teeth broken. The front idler wheel was a little stiff, but it could be rolled by hand.

The idler wheel seemed to have a fair amount of pressure on it even after we loosened the spring that holds it tight to the track. We put the track on again temporarily and ran the machine in both directions and it seemed to do fine.

We are skeptical, but our theory is that the track was too tight and caused the track to seize up at a certain point when turning. It always happened at the same point, but we never saw anything that looked bound up. All of the idlers appear to be well greased and move freely.

Any other thoughts on what may have caused this before we put it back together? We were hoping to find something broken that was obvious, this just seems like it's going to happen again at some point.
