Link Belt Excavator 4300 Swing Issue

lundi 22 février 2016

Hello gentlemen:
I'm back working on my excavator again. I have a couple of questions for those of you who worked on this series of machine.

I'm having trouble with the swing brake releasing. When I first start the machine it will let me swing left and right for about five minutes. Then I can feel the brake slowly coming on tighter and tighter. I've checked my pump output pressure which is 3900 on both pumps. I have swing pressure swinging left and right at 3000 psi. I know that the free swing works because the solenoid has power, and it does keep it from creeping when I am on a slope. Is there a swing brake solenoid I am missing somewhere? My brake unit on the top of the swing gear has been taken apart, cleaned, and put back together (by myself). Nothing was sticking, broken, or locked up.

Another question that I have is on the first and second pump, on the right hand side looking in the side door is a large square block with a solenoid on it. Is that for the swing brake or does that ramp up the pump pressure when it is called for?

Behind the valve body door is the solenoid with three hoses to it, which I believe is the free swing solenoid. To the right of that in that same compartment is the pilot function control solenoid, which I know is working also because when I put 24 volts to that solenoid I don't have any functions. Any answers or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I know it's an older machine being a 4300C (approximately 1985-86).

I am wondering if that solenoid on the pump could be faulty. But I am not sure what that does. My pump schematic shows it, but it really doesn't let me know its function is. I've ran these questions past my Link Belt dealership. They are helpful with coming up with more schematics, but I could use some field experience to answer my questions.
