I was one of the many who had a machine that would work fine for a short while, then slow down to uselessness. Local mechanic assured me it was the pump. It wasn't. Replaced angle sensor, chased wires, pulled the computer and looked inside for damage. Spent many hours just staring and glaring. Had a Hitachi mechanic come out with lots of spare parts and diagnostic equipment. That was the only day it ever ran all day without a hiccup. (the next day it only worked 10 minutes) The machine was basically useless, this went on for two years.
This weekend I was fighting with it, and reached behind the seat and loosened and jiggled the plug where the harness plugs into the PVC. Bingo. I suppose it's possible the problem is elsewhere and that I'm just "shocking" it into working again by interrupting the connection, but I'm knocking on wood confident that finallyI've beat this cursed thing.
