tldr: how well do Komatsu conventional size excavators hold up over time, given proper maintenance?
Hello Heavy Equipment forum, this is my first post, and I would like to thank ALL of you for all of the advice, insight, and experience you have all shared in previous posts that I have read through, much of the information being highly valuable.
I have been in the grading/excavation field for some time now, from being a laborer to foreman, and I am finally prepared to go off on my own venture, so I formed my own company. I will be purchasing equipment in approximately the next 4 weeks, starting with 2 larger size conventional excavators, and one larger dozer. Specifically I intend to purchase a: 2007 PC 300 LC-8 with 6,031 hrs, 2009 PC 220LC-8 with 4,707 hrs, 2007 D61 PX-15 EO with 4,772 hrs. In my career, about half of my operating hours have been spent in komatsu machines, which has not only attracted me to them, but made me very familiar with them, but I do not have enough information about their durability and longevity. Most of the contractors I have worked for either rented, or leased their equipment, so when it got to a certain hour threshold, they traded it back to the dealer for a newer machine, and I never saw it again, usually this happened every year or ~2500 hrs, whatever came first.
I know there is a lot of variables when it comes to choosing equipment, and I am firm on my decision with komatsu, other than the one unknown- reliability after 3000 hrs. The machines I am interested in I have visually inspected and I have looked into them very heavily in-depth. They have all been properly maintained, and have available service records. There is no appearant problems with the machines, other than they have what I have determined around middle of the road hours, to below middle of the road hours. One contractor I worked for, I often operated a Hitachi 210 LC, with 12,000 hrs, with no problems at all. I am just wondering do komatsu machines hold up as well?
Thanks for any input in advance!
