Hello. I bought a CASE 450b high lift last fall. Its year is 1980. I used it this summer to drain and rebuild a small pond. It worked well aside from some leaking hydraulic cylinders, busted hydraulic line, and a bad battery. My problem starts here. Just as I finished the pond, I noticed some drops of trans fluid on the ground. Within about 30 mins it was pouring out. This was right after I was in some heavy brush. The 450 would no longer move until I filled it up. I removed the belly pan and can see the fluid is coming from the bell housing at the bottom. Its leaking from the dust cover area. Of course I cant see where the actual leak is. Im thinking it is coming from the torque converter. I am hopeful it is a seal. After my initial diagnoses I decided to let it sit until this winter. I am getting ready to dive into the project to see if I can get it fixed. I have order a shop service manual but it hasnt arrived yet. I have a couple of questions. First does it seem that I am on the right track with it being an issue with the torque converter? Does anyone have any experience removing the torque converter? How big of a job is this? An old timer told me I probably have to remove the engine to get to the torque converter?? Any help/advise would be appreciated.
