Cat Flywheel Housing

mardi 15 novembre 2016

I have a Cat C10 in a dump truck we bought from an online auction house. Description said it ran good....

So we picked it up. No 3rd or 7th gear. Problems with the starter. All before we even left the lot.

White knuckle ride back to the shop. Finally, got around to checking it out. Trans has a bad sliding clutch. The bigger problem is the flywheel housing. It seems someone who worked on the truck was a hack. Had a brand new clutch but someone didn't tighten the flywheel housing bolts to the block. They are all broken.

The Holes are egged a fair amount. No way just a Helicoil is going to fix this. Has anyone had any luck with the full torque inserts from lock and stitch? I think I'm looking at 12mm x 30mm bolt holes. It looks like this is the only alternative to junking the block.

Or maybe some other ideas? So far the guys have suggested putting it back together and sending it to the auction. I'm not doing this because I obviously know how it feels.
