Questions about engine hours 1845C

I am looking at a 1997 Case 1845C. It seems to be a very tight and smooth operating machine, no slop in the bucket or lift arms, has power to dig no visible leaks. The problem is the hours scare me, 8000! It has the Cummins engine and the valves have been set and serviced every hundred hours. The guy bought it used with about 3000hrs and does all of his own wrenching and has a good reputation. My question, is that to many hours? Thank for your input.
