I have a 1970 Cat 951 that has been sitting inside since 1998 waiting on me to get the nerve up to rebuild the transmission. I'm now at a point of either tackling this project or scrapping the machine. Engine starts easily and does not smoke, loader with 4 in 1 bucket raises and lowers fine, and there are very few leaks. When I parked the machine, 2nd gear was out forward and reverse, but everything else worked fine. Now, there is no movement and I'm not sure where to start.
Anybody out there have experience with transmission removal and rebuild? From the manuals, it looks like bottom removal is the best alternative.
Any guidance would be most appreciated.
Are there any free lance mechanics out there in the Northern Delaware area that might like to either help me or tackle this project?
