Shifting a Aux Behind an Auto?

jeudi 30 novembre 2017

I have a engineer friend that works for a utility in Cali. They had a large transformer delivered by Perkins and being a bit of truck/equipment nerd he hit up one of the drivers. Driver told him most of their trucks were Allison trans, which i knew already. What threw me for a loop as apparently some/most/all? of them also have an aux box and they shift the aux on the fly on heavy pulls. Maybe i'm being dense, but how do you shift an aux box without a clutch? Also, if the Perkins Macks at...

New Holland LX665 Hydraulic Problem

Just purchased a 1998 New Holland Lx665 w/ 2800 hrs on the meter. Overall good condition for the year.

Here's the problem I'm having:

After being warmed up and lifted from the rest position, the loader arm will creep down fairly quickly. I don't think it is the cylinder packing because I cannot duplicate the problem with down pressure. Also, while loader arm is creeping down, if pedal is pushed very slightly forward (to move loader down) the loader arm will actually come up.

Has anyone...

85 JCB 1400B tranny oil cooler question

Hello. I recently fixed a problem with my machine not moving forward. I noticed that my transmission fluid is getting very hot. At least to the touch. I have a radiator type cooler on mine that sits in front of the engine radiator.

I removed the cooler and hosed the fins as well as the engine radiator fins so they are both clean and getting plenty of air through them when it's running. I noticed that the bottom of the cooler is hot to the touch and the top of it is cool. I assume it's...

Finding a Decent Used Machine Is Proving TOUGH...thoughts on these 2?

Hi all,

New to the forum, and heavy machinery for that matter, this will be my first piece of heavy equipment.

I find myself drawn to a backhoe, no clue why, just seem so useful, especially for my intentions (site prep for a new acreage, moving logs around for my mill, snow clearing, gravel driveway maintenance and who knows what else).

I just lost out on a Case 590 Super M at an auction, there isn't much available in my neck of the woods (Pacific Northwest) and I'm searching high and...

When i removed the cap there was no gasket or seal of any kind. That leads me to believe there should not be oil getting to this cover. Can anybody get me started here on my next step?...

Mulchers

I have a smal pecan orchard(2ac, 170 trees) here in south New Mexico, every few years the trees need to be trimmed which is usually done with power saws, either on a man lift or large multiple bladed machines. Have you ever reported any one to the Dot?

mercredi 29 novembre 2017

I saw a truck pulling a grain trailer parked geting a tire repaired that was very unsafe today and i am thinking about calling the Dot. The driver-owner lost a hub and tires one time and killed one person and hurt several others. The trailer has cracks in its rear frame and no working brakes. I didnt look at the truck. I talked to the tire guys and they will not touch it agin. I dont know this guy but after killing some one i figured he no longer was trucking.

However, semis only produce 6.472 kg per mile. And if people want their food, water, fuel, cars, phones, garbage hauled away, and their houses built, why do they put emissions restrictions on trucks? Good Morning Forum Members!

Just thought I would share a picture of my latest project, its a 1990 Belarus (Kirovet) 7011. I acquired it from an older gentleman in Southern Alberta. Surprisingly good shape and low hours (Around 1800)
Its been a real eye opening experience working on a machine that utilizes Soviet Technology, very impressive in some aspect and bewildering in others. Just some quick info on the tractor for anyone who is interested.

JD 750J Hydraulic fan issue

S# 142760
I am getting an active fault of 1701-5 (open circuit fan drive solenoid) I know it gets the signal from the TCU, but I need to know where the TCU is on the machine, and what pin at the TCU (or wire #, color) sends the signal for the fan drive operation. Any electrical schematic available through someone here? I also have a problem with my fan reverse not working at all.

Small Tool Repair

Hi Folks,

I hope everyone had enough turkey last week. Personally, I don't believe there is such a thing. I spent the whole thing sitting on the couch because I just had surgery on my ankle and had to keep it elevated and iced. What a PITA. I'm not going to be on my feet for 3 more weeks!

Since I had so much time on my hands, I decided to try to do some calls to grow my business. I found a distributor for outdoor power stuff like lawnmower engine parts, and power tools. Come to find out...

Cummins Parts System For Little Guys?

Recently I had a fun adventure where I got bounced around to different stores, had to make several phone calls half an hour long, etc. to get a WATER PUMP for a 6B ENGINE on time because the customer needed it right away.

Every time I call Cummins for something large or small it turns into a fiasco but this was off the charts.

Are there online options for them and what might the costs be?

Just Bought a Case 9060 Excavator (100klbs...)

I just bought a big excavator because the price was right. It starts and runs great. Cost a chunk to have it moved to our ranch. Seems to be well maintained. The right track does not have a whole lot of power. The left out runs the right. Could it be as simple as low hydraulic fluid? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a 1985 case 580se backhoe that is sluggish in fwd, rev works ok till fluid gets warm then almost no travel. I am planning on rebuilding the shuttle. the question I have is about the torque converter. I would rather not replace it if not necessary so is there any way to separately test the torque converter? I understand doing a stall test is the correct way to test the converter but if the shuttle is slipping wouldn't that give an inaccurate gauge on the condition of the converter?...

Hi everyone,

I have a grove tms 375 hydraulic crane and I'm having issues with the outriggers.
The four outriggers extend easily when operated, but they won't retract easily. Sometimes the outriggers just get stuck and won't retract when operated. I have serviced all the solenoids and valves controlling the outriggers but it still wouldn't retract. I also checked the hydraulic pressure from the pumps and they seem so high and sufficient to operate the outriggers. I extend the outriggers...

939C bucket valve sticking

Hi all, got a CAT 939 here. When you raise the bucket, if you pull far enough on the joystick (not much), it locks in like the float mechanism does. It will do it when curling the bucket too. I'm not sure what the pilot pressure is as I don't have a gauge to read it but I'm really starting to pull my hair out. It never used to do it but recently its just started doing it. Cat cylinder reseal?

I need to do the bucket cylinders on my 931B. I'm going to cut an octagon wrench out of steel to get the gland nut off and was hoping I can just take the rods in to get the new seals installed. The cylinders rods look like new but started weeping out the end too much . I don't think I need the barrel honed and I can polish the cylinder rods if they need it. Cat 248 Hydraulic Leak

I've got a 2000 Cat 248. Used it a bit last week and parked it, when I came back a couple days later found hydraulic oil running out from under it. The hydraulic tank was nearly empty by this point. I had a chance to lift the cab today and take a peek but it's very difficult to see much of anything with all the piping down there. There are two large diameter low pressure hoses coming off the bottom of the tank that disappear into the maze of pipes and hoses, I assume these supply the pump....

We just took delivery of a new Sany 75 Excavator. Very impressed with the construction and fit of the machine. Isuzu engine, KYB pump, looks like hydash finals, all common stuff.
We have an attachment group coming from Aim for a pin grabber hyd coupler , thumb and 3 buckets. After install it will be going to work, more after that.
We likely will be getting a couple more of these as the cost is way under other brands.

Common rail fuel pressure reading?

I have had a question come up in my mind awhile back, and then come to find out OTC tools had the same idea. Every now and then we will have an engine come in the shop that has common rail fuel system, and we need to check the rail pressure (no start/hard start/low power). And of course, it will be a brand that we don't have a scan tool for (Deere, Cat, etc.). I have wondered how hard it would be to back-probe the fuel pressure sensor and read the voltage and get an idea of fuel pressure....

okay so more like 4 months at the beach, here are some pics from my current project. Pulling a car from ravine

Hi,
I live on a private road, the road has a hill and a 90 degree corner. Logic says that you should probably take the corner slow after freezing rain and snow. My neighbour didn't bother to slow down (and had summer tires on) and took a nice trip over the side of the road. I pulled him out with my JCB 212s (2cx in Europe). I did try to just pull him out but I couldn't get any traction and the tires just spun. I don't have tire chains. I couldn't even make it up the hill to the corner...

Upon inspection of my see-through fuel filter, I could see water in the bottom. Clearly I sucked up water with the fuel when I refueled.

Here is my question: What should I...

955L stalled after running for 5 minutes

Hi, first time on here. I have a 955l which I have owned for about a year and a half. pretty tight machine, done torque converter and some hose work and only put about 120 hours on it. it always starts up within 2 seconds and runs great until today. It started up like usual and I let it run for about 5 minutes before higher throttle and moving to my project of building my lake. after about 50 feet it slowly lost power and died. No cutting out, it was a smooth loss of power till it died. It...

Junkayrd's work thread.....maybe haha

While I don't do stuff near as cool as most of you I figured I'd start showing what I do on a regular basis. I'd like to name my favorites on here, but being a father of five I've learned to avoid hurt feelings haha. I manage equipment for a small excavating company. We run a D11N, D7R, D5G, D65, Steiger 485 HD with two 19 yard pans, two 210 Linkbelts, 110 SD roller, champion grader, 627B and a couple water trucks. I do all the service work and 99% of the repairs. Just did steering...

New T-Mar Grapple Yarder

I put this information up in the obscure makes section, but I think it deserves a thread of its own.

Just to let everyone know that there is a drawing of T-Mar's new grapple yarder in the Fall 2011 issue of the Truck Logger BC magazine. I put in a call to T-Mar so I could get permission to post the picture for everyone to see, but haven't received an answer. So I will give the brief specs and a description of the machine in the picture. The machine weighs in at 100,000 lbs (about...

Help a new guy buy a used dozer

I planned to rent a dozer but have determined the cost will be too high for the large projects I have planned. I need to cut down a hill to create more flat land, remove a bunch of trees (also have a Case 580B to help with roots), grade some very rocky earth, cut in a driveway. Local Sunbelt quoted me about $2,200 delivered w/tax for a week for a JD 650J (real nice machines, so I've heard). With my work interfering with progress I may need it for a month. No good. So, if I wanted to buy a...

Final drive, double planet gear system

The final drive of the komatsu PC300-3 and other dash 3 excavator is equipped with a double planet gear sytem. I remember there was three marks on planet gear and on sun gear. These marks should be used to asssemble the final drive. On the other hand, the same design is used for the swing machinery but without any marks. Anybody have the answer for this?

1) cutting a road 2) buying the right dozer

samedi 25 novembre 2017

Hi all, I bought 33 acres of land with access to a river. The land is steep across a shelf and I'm trying to figure out what size dozer would be best to get this job done. I've attached pictures of the land with a topo. After the road, I'm going to be building a house and some fishing cabins down by the river.

I am here to moving earth, but not new to the industry, and appreciate the advice.

I don't think I can afford to pay someone to cut this in and beside after hauling all your...

Mechanics: Large company VS small company

Just wondering what everyone's experience is with wrenching for large dealerships vs small construction/trucking companies?

I've been at this professionally for 9 years now and spent most of it with large dealers. I'm honestly at my wits end with all the politics/corporate BS/lack of being treated like a person vs a number. I'm about ready to cut it loose from the current company I'm with. I've never worked for a small company before and was wondering, in general of course, what the work...

Jlg 2646E2 scissor lift questions please ??

Stumbled on this forum, and hopefully some one can help with a few questions.
Bought an old JLG 2646E2 scissor lift for home use. It seemed in pretty good shape. Got a new set of batteries and off we go.
All seems perfect, but when I drive the machine, if I encounter even a little lump on the concrete, it stalls. The drive/drives seem to have very little "power".
The machine lifts quickly, and everything else seems fine.
Any ideas on where to look first.
Thanks

So, I got some air tools at an estate auction...

I was high bidder on a lot of air tools at an estate auction. Besides a 1/2" impact, and a couple of 3/8 air ratchets, there are some I'm less familiar with.

First pic is of three die grinders. Top two are Chicago Pneumatic, and the other is an Ingersol rand. I should've been smart enough to include a ruler in the pics to give some indication of their size, but, I wasn't. The longest of the three is about 15" from end to end.

Second pic is a Cleco angle grinder.

Third pic is two IR...

Weeping cylinders and steel hydraulic lines

Couple of questions on hydraulics. The bucket cylinders on my Cat 931B used to weep a tiny bit right around freezing temperature but not when it was warmer or colder. It was around freezing today and they were weeping way more than usual, actually dripping oil onto the boom. Anyone else ever experienced this? I guess I need to reseal them but why they weep so bad at freezing temperature?

The other question is concerning steel hyd. lines. The lines for my 4 in 1 bucket are bent pretty bad...

hitachi EX60 repair manual selection

trying to chase down the correct manual for my machine. I believe it is a straight EX60 according to the plate. I have the parts manual that the John Deere Bookstore says corresponds to the EX60 and that seems to be pretty much spot on.

That said, my notes from speaking with Hitachi (who you used to be able to get on the phone when I bought it back in 2000) on the machine suggest it could be an EX60-2.

Austin Western Model 55 steering issues

Sorta' new to the forum. I've got a Model 55 Austin Western that I'd like to get back up and running. The thing that I see that may be an issue is the steering box. It looks like it is a "non oem" part, but fairly close. Steering shaft turns but feels like either splines or gear teeth are knocked off. I haven't taken it apart yet and probably won't till after Thanksgiving. Just trying to get a feel for what's out there. Thanks

Takeuchi TB153 No Hydraulic Operation - Won't Move No Boom

Hey Guys hoping to get a little help with this.
We have a Takeuchi TB153 which was working ok then blew a line to the bucket. Changed that out and the machine started to move a little slow until everything warmed up. Then it was back to normal.
After a few months of use like this we left it parked for a week. When we went back to use it it wouldn't move. There is no operation to any hydraulics. No movement in the tracks, nothing to the boom, no bucket and no blade, no thumb. after a few...

JLG 40H confused about the proportional dump valve

vendredi 24 novembre 2017

I just bought a 40H and I don't have drive or lift and the swing is very slow. It is a standard control machine with the LSG423 engine and vickers proportional valves. I checked voltages at the proportional coils and they have good voltage and are pulling strong. There are 2 valves that are called dump valves in the parts book and someone marked them with a PV on the machine at some point. One of them is small with#4 lines going to it and is mounted just aft of the proportional valve on...

Identify Blade on 96J D5

Fuel in oil problems

I have a Komatsu d31e-20 with the 6d 95 engine. Just did a complete rebuild, got it back together started the break in and have fuel in the oil after about an hour of running. A lot of fuel.
