Rubber tracks on a Dozer?

In some of Fastdirts photos he has pictures of rubber blocks that bolt onto the tracks on his excavator so that he doesn't tear up cement, asphalt and other hard surfaces. I'm wondering if there is anything like that available for dozers.

I can just hear people going what the heck would you want to do that for? Well, we are looking to add a cement bunker silo on the farm, cement walls and floor. I'm looking at a D5 or D6 size dozer for some fence clearing, and other dirt work projects. It would be really slick to use the dozer to push silage. One of the neighbours used one when they fed cattle, worked great. The problem is that the tracks would tear up the cement. I don't want to spend the money on a pad, only to rip it up with a dozer.

My other option is to buy another tractor for pushing silage, while I'd probably find other things for it to do, its a pricey venture to find something reliable with a dozer that hasn't been beat all to heck.

Hitachi EX30 loosing power

I have an old EX30 Around 1990, and it was working fine around the house but now it will only work for 15 minutes from cold before it looses all its digging power. But it will still track and blade down at full power. This led me to think servo pump issues I have changed the oil and all the filters and checked all the suction lines, today I even took off the servo pump but can't see any issues. I rebuilt it and after 15 minutes exactly the same. I can get a new servo pump but the fact it works well when first started it makes me suspect it could be something else. Does anybody have any ideas?

new guy, first post, just bought a 693B

Heool folks, I just bought this John Deere 693B, I understand it supposed to be like a forestry version of a 690. Correct me if I'm wrong. About 1986. Bucket has worn teeth, and the nubs are welded on, so will need a new bucket. Or some welding... No air conditioning, so I'm thinking of maybe a small electric unit would be easier than adding a compressor and all the plumbing. Maybe a room air conditioner on the back window and a small suitcase generator.

What tools should one have on hand? I was told 1/4 to 1 1/2 wrenches would do most things.

Kumatsu PC05-6 / Bobcat 56 Mini ex

Hello,
I recently bought a Bobcat 56 mini ex to do some repairs aroud the house and it came without any travel gear. No Motors, idler assembly or tracks. I'd really love to get this thing back on its own two tracks so i'm in need of some parts.

The machine is actually a re-badged Kumatsu PC05-6. I'd prefer used parts as its not for commercial/profit use so budget is low. I'd also entertain the possibility of grafting on under carriage parts from a different brand machine if it is in the same size range.

Would anyone have a line for used parts or salvage machines in Ontario Canada?
Thanks
Tom.

Advice/Help Clearing Land

Guys-I would really appreciate some experienced advice and opinions. I have a large tract of land (700 acres), of which about 600 is in timber. I am cutting the timber and would like to clear as much of the cutover land as I can to make open pasture/farm land. I have no experience in large machines or clearing land. I do have a skid steer as well an an 11K pound excavator so have some experience in compact equipment.

I plan to buy machines to clear the land and do a lot of it myself. I will also likely hire some folks to run the equipment while I am working my normal day job. I am not under any illusions about how quickly or easily this can be done. With that said, I do want to invest in equipment that can make the most of my time.

I am definitely getting a larger excavator and had planned to get a dozer as well. Some folks had suggested a track loader instead or maybe even a large wheeled loader. I have read about the pros and cons and it sounds like track loaders are very versatile but if you have an excavator, a lot of that versatility is unnecessary. I would spend up to about 200K total on good quality used equipment. My questions I would love help with are:

1) What size excavator? I know bigger is better, but is there a point where there isn't much difference? I have looked at a Cat 320 on up to Cat 336. The larger the machine I get, the more "used" it will be. I am blessed to have the means to buy nice machines and have the work volume to support a nice larger machine but don't want to spend a lot more money for a larger machine if it isn't going to make the job much faster.

2) Dozer, track loader, or wheeled loader? Why?

3) I am guessing the answer to that question above will be a dozer since I have an excavator. If so, which one? I had looked at a Cat 6D.

4) Lastly, anyone have any experience with a Rotor S or similar machine?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVAJT2ThP-4
I know that one is on a tractor, but they make an attachment for large excavators as well. I know Cat is working on a similar attachment but it isn't ready for market just yet (the rep told me it keeps "ripping the arms off of the machines with the torque.")

Thank you in advance for your assistance! I really appreciate folks who have experience and expertise taking their time to help someone like myself who is searching for advice!

Case tr270 aux no working?

samedi 30 juillet 2016

Just got me a 2011 case tr270 with 1000 hrs on it. Seems to be a pretty good tight machine. I am having a problem with the aux (standard flow) hydraulics not working. I can roll the toggle up or down and they will work, but if I move the loader up it instantly kills the aux and I will have to reset machine before they will even try to come back on. I can pretty much work on anything if I have some direction to go with. Thanks for any help.

2005 JCB 214 Transmission question

I recently purchased a 2005 JCB 214 backhoe / loader. Since the lights weren't working, I started looking at the wiring. I found a loose connector in the side dash, and plugged it in. Now there's a warning light on (looks like a gear with a drop of oil in the middle). I think this is the low transmission oil warning light. I changed the transmission fluid, and the warning light is still on. The backhoe drives forward/reverse as is should (as best as I can tell.) The transmission is a 4 speed, and there's a lever on the steering column to change it between F, N, R.

Any thoughts on why the warning light is on, and what I should check next to fix it? Does anyone know where the sensor is that reads the transmission pressure level?

A little help with seal orientation in CAT hydro cylinder rebuild

Hoping someone has enough experience to shoot me some help. This is regarding the 225 excavator bucket cylinder I am rebuilding. The head has 3 seals, buffer, then the main seal, then the wiper. The old buffer was was Ucup or DYR style buffer, the new one is. I could not find anywhere in which way that thing goes in but I went with the common sense approach of installing with the U cup facing the pressure side just like the main seal. Hoping that is right?

Also, I was trying to understand the U cup type seal on the hydraulic bump stop or snubber that attached to the tip of the rod. It has grooves on the sides to bleed down pressure but the way I looked at the book and installed the seal was with the U cup facing towards the main rod nut. There is a little support ring that goes in there and all that jazz was TIGHT! Not sure I could get that one out without damage. I guess if I had an idea how the snubber worked and why there is a seal there, it might make more sense.

I am just trying to verify a few things before I assemble and cost myself some headaches.

Tell me about the machines you like in the 22-25 ton range!

I am needing to update my excavator. Been running a SK160 Kobelco for years and it's a good machine, cab alittle small. I am close to all major brands as far as parts and service. Tell me about the Case ex210c, Kobelco Sk210, Cat 320, Hitachi/deere, Volvo, Komatsu, etc. in this size range that you own and operate. I like speed and agility, with enough power to get job done but not to much hp that just sucks up fuel. What machine out there that has it figured out? I am open for a used machine with a 1000 hours or so, which knocks off about 25% from new. Would you stay away from buying a previously leased machine? Tell me about your machine's and what you may have done differntly!

Help buying an excavator

Have experience with a small John Deere 450 for several years. Have been clearing 20 acres of the farm and think it would be helpful to have an excavator on the farm. In immediate need of a descent stump puller. Property has a typical mix of Pennsylvania hardwood and pine trees. About 40 to 50 year old growth. I've looked at several excavators and realize I'm not smart enough to know what potential issues I may be looking at. Anyone available in the northeast that offers pre-purchase inspection services??
If so, email me at scott AT ingustaindustries DOT com.

This year they are also hosting the ACMOC National Show as part of this event. Beside the usual there will be an extra 100 or so Antique Caterpillars running around playing in the dirt and on display. The wife and I are arriving on Friday August 12th. We are taking the motorcycles this year and going to tool around that part of the country for a few days after the show before returning home. Cat 215c hydraulic system question

215c 4hg2388

I blew a hose to the stick cylinder retract yesterday, in trying to get the machine up to where I could work on it, I noticed that any function whether travel or swing or boom made pressure oil come out of the blown hose. Is this an indicator of a problem somewhere else in the system? Initially I thought it was just movement forcing the oil out of the cylinder, but just light pressure on the travel pedal to release the brake would cause it.

Thanks

Case 2050m, What do you know about them, where are they made?

I live in New Zealand and my boss borough a Case grader last year, now I think he may replace my D7H with a Case 2050m. The grader was the first Case grader in NZ and I think if he got a 2050m it would be the first Case bulldozer sold new in NZ since the 1980s so I don't know any thing about them! What do think of them, would they have a long working live, 10,000+ hours?

Cat T55C Forklift NO BRAKES

Hello all,

I have searched everywhere and have come up with nothing on this even at the caterpillar site. So a friend bought a building that came with a Cat T55C forklift. It runs great but it has no brakes. I am an auto mechanic looking to fix it for him and have no idea where to start. The brake pedal actuates a rod that goes into what looks to be a valve body on the top of the transmission? I'm wondering if this is a wet brake setup? In the pictures you can see the rod I'm talking about. I put the tags up as well. If anyone can explain the brake system on this model / how to repair them I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks

It is very frustrating to move lumber around the job site. Sorry if this doesn't make since. TIA

It seems like our lull brakes are getting worse everytime i run the machine. When you press the brake pedal gradually down it doesnt do anything until it gets to that spot where they engage and then they slam on. There is no feathering the brake for a controlled stop anymore, they either are on or off. How do you go about adjusting this?

Troubleshooting Komatsu PC160

Hi!

I have some trouble with my Komatsu PC160-7 and hope someone has an idea of what's wrong.

After charging the batteries a couple of days ago, the machine won't start. The engine turns, but there is no ignition it seems. When I checked the fuses behind the headrest, I found that the 30A fuse for the "Engine Controller" is melted. Everytime I put in a new fuse and turn on the ignition, the fuse melts again. In the display I get the errorcodes E0E, DA2RMC and DAFRMC.

I'm thinking this is maybe a short circuit in the wireloop, but that's just a thought.

Has anyone have an idea where I can look for the fault? Or maybe someway I can test for it?

Thanks for all response!

Kind regards,
Steven

Educate Me on Air Brakes

1998 F800 digger derrick truck has a pretty bad brake squeal, I think it's the left rear. The bottom shoe is worn down to about 1/4", the other shoes on the rest of the truck about 1/2" thick.

Took the tires and drum off to get a better look, and the wear is uneven, the top shoe isn't as worn as the bottom and is about equal in thickness to the others on the truck. Is this Normal?

I noticed that the shaft and bracket that anchors the brake chamber, slack adjuster, and S cam shaft to the back of the wheel, moved considerably when I was caging the spring brake. Could that be the cause of my uneven wear?

Does that wobble mean that I have to replace the S cam bushings.

Also this brake is missing the shroud on the back side of the wheel that helps keeps road dirt/crud out, and when I took the drum off a very healthy amount of crud fell out. Could that contribute to the uneven wear?

Also where do you guys get brake parts? I'd imagine that these would be generic parts, just wondering if there is someone cheaper than Ford, they are pretty proud of their parts.

Should I do both brakes on the rear axle so they are matched?

As usual thanks for any and all help.

Pros and cons of 5 ton excavators vs. 3.5 ton

I'm interested in a small excavator mainly for personal use on a couple different properties. I've been focusing on the 3.5 ton machines 7,500 to 9,000 lbs but just ran across a Kubota KX 161-3 which I guess would be in the 5 ton class as it weights around 11,500 lbs.

I really would like the portability advantage of a 3.5 ton machine but for the two most demanding tasks I'll be using this machine for maybe the 5 ton machine will be better but I just don't have experience running these so looking feed back from you guys that do have experience with these size machines.

I'd really like to get a mower attachment something like a US Mowers EX30 flail to keep limbs cut back that over hang my fields and to cut some ditch banks.

The biggest challenge will be stumps of various sizes. I'm sure stumps are a real pain and challenge for anything but the largest of excavators so will a 5 ton machine be a great advantage in tackling a stump over a 3.5 ton?

What are the pros and cons of 5 ton compared to 3.5 ton excavators?

Keep in mind I'm looking a decent used machine for personal use that I can move between properties. I'm not currently looking to use it to make money with so productivity isn't as important to me as it would be with a contractor. I currently have a trailer that could move a 3.5 ton but would be a bit over loaded with a 5 ton so would need to trade up trailers for the 5 ton so I'm just wondering if the advantages are worth it to get the larger machine?

Thanks for sharing any of your experience and recommendations.

They offers a variety of courses like SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, MCAW, GTAW and some testing courses. I don't know the difference between these. How different are all these courses? Questions about purchasing older skid steer

Hello everyone, I've been looking over the forums and trying to use the search but can't come up with any answers. I have recently come across a 1979-1983 (not sure exactly the year) international harvester skid steer. Does anyone know anything about these? It comes with a working 24 horse motor that I'll have to install myself and I've never put an engine in anything. The hour meter reads around 1500 hrs. Anyone have a price estimate of the whole unit as well?

Bobcat X331 - Boom Down Too Fast

I have an X331 (1997) purchased used and have fixed quite a few issues already (successfully, in part, to the great info on this forum). I have one more issue before it will be almost in great working order. When I use the right joystick I get nice proportional action except for boom down. Boom up is nice, but down takes a lot of forward joystick and then comes down quite suddenly. I can immediately boom up nicely, but down is the same; lots of forward joystick and then a sudden motion. I'm hoping I can get a few clues on here as to where to begin/how to troubleshoot. All other joystick and travel operations seem to work fine. Thanks in advance!

Welding Rod

I was going to post this in "shop talk" but since this is my usual hang out Ill post my question here.

I need to weld this hook onto the other side of this link. Both are cast steel.
I'm not a certified welder but I have a ton of hours in welding all kinds of material with all kinds of welders.
At home I will be using my old Lincoln 225A AC welder. I don't have an oven to keep the 7018 dry so I was leaning towards 7014. But it doesn't have the penetration of 6011.

So what is the advise from the experts?
Thanks! Blueboy

Autocrane 3203 pr

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes. I have an Autocrane 3203pr on my service truck. Has developed a leak down issue and I am positive it is bypassing the cylinder seals. I no longer have an autocrane dealer local and cannot find the seal kit. I was wondering if anyone knew who made the cylinder so I can buy a seal kit from the manufacturer rather than autocrane since they have been less than helpful in finding parts. I would tear the cylinder down and measure but it is still operating well enough to use it for light things and I cant tear it down and have it inop while I track down parts.

Looking to purchase a new Bobcat T770

After a few times back and forth with the dealer, I am at 30% off list price, having never purchased a new piece of equipment, is that a good enough deal?

New stabilizer pads... great price. FlipPad International

Hey guys, I've been looking for an inexpensive set of stabilizer pads for my 655D and the best price I could find was $66 each. My machine needs 6 so at $66 each plus freight I was going to be over $400 and I just couldn't bring myself to spend that right now.

After sometime I finally found a great product at a great price from a company called FlipPad International or http://ift.tt/2aqnThL. FlipPad also sells these pad assemblies for all kinds of makes and models. Anyway, I purchased a set and just received them along with new locking nuts for $297, or $49.50 ea.,and free freight. Great deal and nice product!

So if you need to replace yours and you don't want to spend your beer money check these out.

JD 650G blade rides over obstacles

Hello all

I have a small problem with my little dozer that I just can't seem to figure out.

What is going on is that when I lower the blade and begin to push a small about of dirt/brush, the blade will lift and ride over any rock or root until I'm passed the obstacle then drop back down. It acts similar to what would happen in float mode. If I have a fair amount of dirt in front of the blade it seems to hold well. The blade will also stay down just fine during a big push if I apply any down pressure at all. It really only happens if I set the blade at a desired height such as grading, and a rock or root happens to be in the way.

It almost acts like there is a small amount of air in the lift cylinders that act like a shock absorber, but only in one direction. The blade will never suck down further than where I put it, only push up.

The machine itself is very tight, no leaks. I have completely rebuilt the control valve with new factory seals, orings, and backup rings. This didn't seem to help. I don't see anything else in the circuit that might need looking at. My next guess is to look at the lift cylinders themselves? Thanks.

15w-40 engine oil for hydrulics

I'm going to change my hydraulic oil from hydraulic 46 that's in it now, to 15w-40 engine oil.

But am not sure if it should be engine oil meant for diesel or petrol? or if it matters at all.
my understanding is that there is different additives in different types and brands.

Does anyone know if it matters or have a recommendation?

It's for my PC30mr-1, Komatsu can't tell me.

Hitachi ZX200-5 slow

mercredi 27 juillet 2016

Hi

I have a trouble Hitachi ZX200-5, all actuator speeds are slow, no fault codes, when I connect Dr.ZX and display Pump 1 Delivery pressure, Pump 1 flow control pressure, pump 2 delivery pressure and pump 2 flow control pressure the delivery pressure on both pumps is 31Mpa, but the flow control pressure on both pumps is only 2.6 Mpa when relieving any function, the reference value on technical manual is 4Mpa.

I appreciate any help. :)

Kx121-3 loosening tracks?

Hey guys, I have a kx121-3 I just bought, the tracks are too tight, it has 1000hrs on it and sprockets are sharp unfortunately. I took the grease fitting out for the tracks in hopes that the track would loosen like my d3, but didn't move, and I even ran it back and forth in place for a little bit with the fitting off. And still didn't loosen. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Need input-- using conveyor system to move material on reclaim jobs

Hopefully this is the right place to post. We do a lot of reclaim work, old coal pits that were stripped back in the 40's through the 60's or later. We generally do the larger jobs, 500,000 yards and up. The owner and I were kicking ideas around and he mentioned a conveyor system to move it from the various piles over the high wall into the pit. It would take various lengths depending on how it was stripped. He figures longest run 600'. Currently we use scrapers and dozers depending on length of push etc. It's primarily clay, shale or similar. My question is this, what do you start the entire process with? I assume you'd need a grizzly bar setup of some sort to knock the material down to the desired size for whatever conveyor setup you chose and to keep trash out of it etc. If not that some sort of a crusher or mixer like machine? Forgive my explanations, I know very little about this sort of operation. I'm sure there would be some excavating here and there to set the operation up but I can see where this might save some time and cut down on machinery size.

Give me thoughts on sizes of conveyors, pros and cons of them, screening process from cut to conveyor, I assume we will need several generators, wiring etc. I am by no means hell bent on the idea so any feedback, good or bad, is welcome. I can see this working me hard keeping up with bearings, belting, wiring etc etc.

Thanks in advance for you help!

How to get T650 into high flow?

How do I get a T650 bobcat into high flow? Does it use a jumper on the tool harness or is there a setting in the display that switches between standard and high flow?

Thanks,

304c cr hydraulic hose bucket

I've blown a hose from the bucket to the cab on a cat 304c cr. The hose goes under the cab and I think ends up at the valve stack at the back. I took it off at the steel line on top of the boom but it doesn't want to budge when I attempt to pull it through to the back. Is it fastened under the cab or attached to another stack? I took the floor deck off and couldn't see a thing. Is there a website that shows the hose and I could order one and see how long it is? The dealer said it's 41 inches long and I'm measuring close to 54 inches going into the front of the cab. thanks

Gehl CTL-80 Won't move

I have a Gehl CTL-80 that will not move or engage hydraulics. I have checked the safety bar switch (it's good), the door switch (good), etc. I have also switched the relays that are in front of my feet. That didn't work either.

I pulled up a parts manual and see that there is safety relay close to the circuit breaker panel underneath the right joystick. Also, there is a lever lock soeloniod that if not triggered will not release the hydraulics. Has anyone else dealt with this issue? Thanks,

Buddy

Shovel productivity per hour

Hi all,
I work as a mine operation trainer on the copper open-pit mine and the task that faces us now is to reduce the time load for each truck and to increase hourly productivity.
We use four shovels HITACHI EH 3600-6E with electric drive and eighteen Cats 785B dump trucks . We want to improve our performance up to 2,500 tons per hour for each shovel.
Now I'm interested in a variety of trucks loading procedures:
1) one-sided back-up loading
2) two-sided back-up loading
3) drive by loading

If you have any procedures, policies or presentations on this topic please share your experience on this topic.

Yours faithfully,

WAW

Need to move a lull 1044c-54 with blown (knocking) engine - towing question!! help!

The machine will start and run long enough to unswitch brakes but i have nothing to move it to see if brakes are actually disabled in time before a mega wrecker comes. The engine sputters and dies within 5secs of starting.

The manual says that you need to apply pressure to the parking brake system for inoperable vehicles... do i still need to do this if i can unswitch the brakes before motor cuts out? Please help, thanks.
