Old crawler typical fun

Well as I finished my foundation hole rough in I developed some nasty leaks, first was a fuel leak then a hydraulic filter seal then a old line blistered thru, that was back in September. I had started the house project, been working to finish up the new shed and as worse always gets worse my work place went down for a 18 month overhaul and I went on a 3/1 night shift twelve hour schedule of 3 nights on and one off from 7pm to 7am until last week(51 days on schedule).

I got hot after it as temps went to 60 yesterday and after almost $400 in new lines and four hours effort I have my old machine back to fighting trim. Too bad it is so muddy it almost sticks in its own tracks! and I can't get anything done with it! Oh well, back to working electrical in the new house and now old man winter comes a strolling back in.

air brakes freezing up

On my IH 4900 with a 466 engine, it keeps freezing the air line up running from the compressor to the dryer receiver. I've changed out the dryer receiver with a rebuilt unit, do this every year but every once in a while it will still freeze that line, any ideas or suggestions as to what is causing it or how to prevent it? I've never really had any issue's after the receiver dryer. Its usually within the first couple feet off the compressor is where the ice is that causes the problem.

955L Crankshaft sleeves or no sleeves

I was looking at my motor manual, and I noticed that it shows a set of sleeves on the crankshaft. (Under the crank shaft seals and they are called wear sleeves) I am confused because the motor I pulled out did not have any of these sleeves. I am replacing my motor with a different motor (long block). My question is when do you need sleeves and should I install them on this new Long Block motor? I think if I don't install them my new motor will leak. Need help or suggestions on how to install them as well?

transmission line leak - ford 4500

I have a leak in one of the hard lines from the transmission filter to the pump (I think it goes to the hydraulic pump). There is a threaded coupler on the end where the pump(?) is but the line goes straight into the transmission filter housing with no threaded coupler.

I am debating what to do:

1. I can remove the line and repair it via TIG welding (that I can do), or

2. I can replace the entire line with a hydaulic hose. My question here is, how do it connect to the filter housing & how do I get it out of the filter housing? The line is currently a little loose at the filter housing anyway. The line from the filter housing to the top of the transmission is tight.

I do not have a source locally to get a new hard line made.

Any other ideas are welcome as well.

Thanks,

John

988H Very intermittent hyd. Control Problem

This is a problem that has been around for a few weeks or more. Two different operators have mentioned it. I have never been there to see it first hand. Another problem is we were in the end of season rush to get the tonnage on the ground for winter shut down so could not take it out of service to even do a quick check for codes. There are no active ones showing on monitor.

The problem, as it has been described to me, is that once in a while, could be a couple times a day or even a week, while trying to raise boom there will be no reaction to moving the hist lever. Seems like this happens with boom part way up like approaching a truck to load and operator decides he needs to lift a bit more to get over side of haul truck. Operator says sometimes if he work the lever a few times it will then respond and other times if put in lower for a moment then it goes up like normal.

I'm hoping to get some time this week to look at it, believe it is down for the season so if I can finish a couple other projects I will find time to look at this one. Thinking first step will be to hook up ET to see if there are any codes related to hydraulic system. Inspect wiring from lift and tilt sensors and those to the main control valve. Maybe run calibration of controls and anything related to the hydraulics I can with ET?

The biggest problem I see is this machine may end up parked for two or more months and with it being so intermittent a problem and my retirement date is 4/23/15 may never know if I did cure it! But then the next guy will have to worry about it. Wish I knew who the next guy was going to be so I could at least tell him what was done. I will put notes in my files on it but who knows if anyone will look at them after I leave:beatsme

If anyone has seen this kind of problem or has some wild ideas of what I could do let me know. Money is no object as management won't spend it anyhow:Banghead

Undercarriage wear?

There's a lot of knowledge on here so I'm sure someone will know the answer. I put new under undercarriage on my 931B. Weld on sprocket rims and everything else new except for top carrier rollers. I put Trek/DCF SALT rails on cause they seemed like the best bang for the buck, only about $200 over dry rails and still a lot cheaper than everyone else's dry rails. The sprocket rims were pretty rough castings but I figured they'd wear in soon enough. I tried talking talking to the manager at Trek awhile back and he was an arrogant jerk. Said I should talk to the dealer that sold them. They're the ones who suggested I talk directly to Trek since they should be the experts on their own undercarriage. I didn't buy directly from Trek but picked up the parts there to save some money since the warehouse was only 20 minutes away from me.

I have adjusted the tracks as per the Cat procedure and have no visible wear on the bushings going forward but there is a flat spot starting on the bushing face from going in reverse. I've seen this on a Komatsu dozer as well. I was told it's from running the tracks too lose but having them too tight I think causes more problems. I only have a 1 speed reverse so it's not from going too fast or really long distances. I know reverse wears faster but just wondering if this is somewhat normal? I know not all sprockets are the same but being everything is new I'm puzzled? I'm hoping maybe they'll wear in and then won't wear as fast. I have approx. 750 hrs. on the new undercarriage but noticed it starting after checking at about 500 hrs.

Cat 930 loader oil help

samedi 29 novembre 2014

Hello all. I'm new to this forum and new to the heavy equipment field. I am an auto mechanic by trade but know relatively little about about the heavy duty stuff so I thought this site would be a good resource.

Recently I have begun working on a 1978? CAT 930 wheel loader. SN 41K.

I just replaced the front transfer case output shaft seal behind the parking brake. Pain in the butt for a heavy equipment newb! Got it done but as a result I need to top off the trans/transfer case oil. I had purchased several gallons of CAT TDTO 30wt oil from the dealer for it but I need more since I will soon be replacing the rear output shaft seal and I lost more than I thought I would in the course of the repair.

My question- Is there any other oil besides the CAT brand oil that I can use in the trans that will meet the proper spec (TO-2/TO-4) that will save me some money? The CAT oil is aprox $17 per gal. Does Rotella diesel oil meet this spec? Any other suggestions? I have been told that 10w30 would be fine but I want to be sure.

This machine along with others are used in the construction of places of worship and I have volunteered to care for the repair and maintenance of them. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thank you and sorry for the long post!

1999 Z45/25 sn# Z-45-011232 ford duel fuel engine

I have got the machine running, just removed the hydraulic tank and replaced both filter screens in the tank while it was removed. I have now located the tank valves that were covered in stucco and they are in the open position

The platform is between the steer wheels (because the turn table will not rotate but maybe 6 inches to the stop however will not travel the other direction.

The machine will move about an inch forward and reverse while holding the drive enable switch

The primary boom will respond from the basket up and down as well as extend and retract

the secondary boom will not respond from the basket

Steering will respond from the basket

None of the lower controls will operate the machine other than the start function.

I believe all functions worked from the basket before I removed hydraulic tank, I know the turntable did for sure.

Thanks in advance for any help trying to get this machine moving.

26k 4x4 Dump Truck?

I haul firewood, sawdust, woodchips, and a few other things and am looking to get a bigger dump truck. I'd like a 6-7 ton payload. The body will be 16 ft long. It seems I'm always going off a driveway and use 4x4. I've heard single axle dumps don't get much traction, and heard they get less traction after you dump your load with no weight on the back. A Kodiak 6500 has enough GVWR but I can't find any in 4x4, just the 5500 which only has 19500 gvw. What are my options

Tanksinking

Yair . . .

On another thread I posed the probably pointless question as to how tank and dam construction (and earthwork in general) could be economically carried out in remote areas given that, with the demise of cable control, it is no longer common and normal to run blade, ripper and scoop (scraper) on crawler tractors.

The days of the itinerant dam sinker are long gone but once they were part of the fabric of out back Australia.

The plant consisted of the tractor equipped with angle blade towing the scoop, the ripper and a dog trailer for fuel and oil drums.

These outfits accompanied by a vehicle towing a caravan or camp gear roamed far and wide to the furthest reaches of the inland and on several occasions I have driven up to tanks literally in the middle of nowhere and you realise that some lonely soul had been there breathing dust and running dirt out along a wide wing on a watercourse.

And then you stumble across the campsite and find a set of what are probably D6 liners and some other bits and pieces . . . and there is only a set of wheel tracks to this place and its fifty miles to the station homestead and three hundred miles to town.

So in this day and age how would you dig a 5000 yard excavation and construct the diversion wings to fill it in that remote and lonely place?

Cheers.

1987 D6H hydraulics getting hot and all the gauges don't work

All, Can anyone help me try to figure out what is going on with a D6H that I just purchased. It shifts fine. The hydraulics all work fine but when the machine gets hot it start pouring oil out of the spool valve. Can't tell exactly where. I have taken the spool valve out and replaced all the orings between the slices. Temporarily fixed problem for a few hours. What can cause the hydraulic oil to get so hot? Is the hydraulic oil completely seperate of the transmission oil? And, all the gauges seem to be hooked up but none of them move. Are there fuses other than the ones next to the batteries?

Cat 936F brake fault light

Just purchased this loader knowing it had no brakes,#8AJ01502,I was pretty sure I knew what was wrong, and so far so good. The peddles were froze solid. The pivot, rollers, and plunger were all a big ball of corrosion.and one air valve had a big groove under the o ring.So two new air valves, peddles and mount ass'y and the service brakes work perfect. My problem is the monitoring system still flashes. The code is,low hydraulic brake pressure. There is also a light for low air brake pressure that does NOT come on.The only pressure switch I can find on the hydraulic side is for overstroke of the master cylinders, and cannot find reference to repair, low hydraulic brake pressure in my service manual------ The brakes work great,I think I have bad pressure switch that I'm not seeing.Im working outside in the snow so maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Remove air filter housing on L190

vendredi 28 novembre 2014

This is embarrassing, but I can't remove my air filter housing on my New Holland L190. I have tried everything to get it off and cannot seem to do it. It should be very easy to do, but it WILL NOT unlock out of its position no matter what I do. I have removed the yellow tab that is inserted at the top of the housing that locks it in place, but it only moves maybe 1/8 inch or less. The manual says to turn it to the 11:00 position. No go. I mean, how hard can it be? VERY HARD! :(

I just looked at the manual again and it looks like the lip on the tab faces in the downward position. When I got the machine, the tab was facing UP and was very hard to get out and back in. Now I know why! It looks like having it in the wrong position might have messed it up somehow to where it will no longer move out of its locked position.

Any ideas?

Hello all I'm desperately hoping that one of you guys can point me in the right direction. I recently purchased and exported three Deere excavators one 450clc 2002 two 330clc yrs. 2003 and 2005 to Ghana. The purpose of this post is to see if anyone know of any service companies or individuals who travel to countries such as Ghana on contract.

Relieving fuel pressure for filter changes

Been awhile since I've been on here. :)

I had a problem last week when working in my machine. It all of a sudden lost power. It was a gradual loss of power and it spit and stuttered until is finally died. After sitting for about 30 minutes I tried starting it again and it finally started but not without it cranking a bit.

I got it to the garage and let it sit overnight. The next morning I tried it again and it fired right up, but ran only for about a minute then started to act up again. Same thing, it started losing power and finally died. It won't restart without letting it sit for a while, at least, but it won't stay running long until it dies again.

I figured I might change all the fuel filters in it since it hasn't been done since I bought it. I figure easiest things first and hopefully will fix the problem.

Can any of you tell me if I need to relieve the fuel pressure before replacing the filters and if so, how do I relieve the fuel pressure? The Operators Manual says nothing about it so I don't know. Hate to get sprayed or injected for something I should have done before hand. Any help would be appreciated. It is a '08 NH L190.

P.S. My dealer gave me 3 different fuel filters for it, but I can only find two. I found a larger fuel/water separator and an in-line fuel filter. What I didn't find is a smaller fuel/water separator they gave me. It is also a spin-on so don't know what the deal is there. The larger new replacement fits the one on my machine, but the smaller is no where to be found on the machine.

P.S.S. The only thing different I remember doing is getting my fuel at a different place. Could this be bad fuel? Maybe too much water in the fuel?

Thanks for any and all help.

Looks Like I might be helping move a D10N!

From the way the boss was talking the other day sounds like I have been "volunteered" to work on the dismantling for moving a D10N 3SK in the next few weeks. It's somewhere south of Pittsburgh Pa. and will be going to near Syracuse NY. Other than one day many years ago at Cat factory have I never seen one in person!

I've been told that the blade and ripper along with cab and ROPS need to come off and possibly the lift cylinders. . Was looking in SIS to see if there was some info on removing the cab to get an idea of what tools we might need. Did not see anything there other than torques for the ROPS. Not sure what if anything will be available to us at the current location. :beatsme

Off the top of my head this is what I was using as a starting point for tools: 16:1 torque multiplier(1/2 in-1 in out), assortment of 1 inch drive sockets to fit all the bolt I can find in parts breakdown, 3/4 inch socket set, 1/2 inch and 3/8 inch set, end wrenches(spanners) from 3/8 up to 2 inch, assortment of screw drives and pliers, hammers of various sizes, pry bars, and maybe some porta-power hyd.jacks. I think I have enough caps and block off plates to seal off hoses and valve bodies when lines are removed.

If anyone (Nige?) has done this lately or can suggest something to take with, we will be about 6 hours from home doing this work so would hope to have everything we might need. Also any idea on time to expect needed to do this job? Guessing we will be a 3-4 man crew including the boss who is a certified crane operator, hope they will have at least that for us:Banghead

Oh by the way they say it will run but not move, transmission problem!, we are contracting the trucking and they say should be no problem slipping the beam trailer under it then picking it up.

I do have some pictures but not where I am today, will post a couple on Monday.

JCB Skid steer technical info needed

Hello to all of the JCB afficianados on this board. I have a question about the 2012 JCB 135 skid loader (actually it's a Volvo MC60C). I'm considering buying a used one with the intention of removing the complete boom assembly (arm) and mounting a forklift mast on the front of the machine. The issue comes with the operating weight of the machine is around 6100 and change. How much weight can I shed removing the boom and cylinders? We build our own forklift mast and could get the add on for that under 500 lbs. but would like to keep the final operating weight under 5500 lbs. better yet near 5000. Any one have an idea what the boom assembly weighs? Also would the steering be responsive enough for the precision required for forklift work?

Okay, so before you all say google this, I have, and I haven't found any specifics. My name is McCord, and I'm 22. I currently live in Santa Barbara county, California. I've been running equipment off and on for about 2-3 years now, and I am looking into getting into a union. First off, how do I apply? Also, how do I enroll in their training program? Does anyone have a filter housing they could take some pictures of and post the components inside the housing in addition to the element?

I can't find a good break down of the filter housing anywhere. I bought the filters from Coleman equipment, maybe it wrong filter but I think I am missing parts in the housing, there was no filter in it when I took it apart.

JD CT 332 How tight should loader joints be?

Hi all, I have a John Deere Ct 332. One or two of the nuts that hold the loader arm joints in place have been coming loose. Lock washers don't work. Next I will use locktite red. Before I do that though I want to make sure they are too their proper tighteness. I'm not looking for a torque spec. Basically, I can tighten them as much as possible with a big breaker bar. Then I can run the machine to shift the weight on that joint and then re tighten a little more. At that point, I will take the nut off, apply lock tite and re tighten. Does that sounds correct? Or am I not supposed to tighten all the way because it would restrict joint movement? Thanks

Bobcat Model s205

Hi guys I'm looking for some help on this piece of equipment. We pulled the engine out, so we could do some welding on the chain case, nothing was done to the engine. After, we put the engine back in, we tried to start it and it would only start for a few seconds before it'd shut off. This happened a couple of times then it wouldn't start at all. We took off the hydrostatic pump belt and tried to start only the engine. Now it cranks ok, spins ok, but it still doesn't start. We looked at the codes and it said that the salonoid shut-off is short circuited. We checked the fuses, the relays, the plugs, and everything seems ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How to control throtte on deere 4045TF275B has electric throttle

I have a 4045TF275B engine. Injection pump number SE501235. I am wondering if the throttle is controlled by 12 volt. if I apply 12 volt current to the wires and ground on the other is that full rev? 0 volts would be off. And 6 volts would be half? I bought this engine out of a street sweeeper and it did not come with a control. I was thinking of using a DC motor speed control to control RPM. Will that work? My main concern is that is is for some reason a different voltage.

D8K : Replacing seal group bet the transmission oil reservoir and hydraulic resevoir?

Hi Folks,

It seems I have to change out the seal group on my d8k, and possibly other parts. Just bought this machine locally, in Yaounde, Cameroon, Central Africa. During our first maintenance, we were checking the condition of the hydraulic oil on one side of the hydraulic reservoir near the sprocket. We opened the reservoir cap and realized that the transmission oil was leaking into the hydraulic oil section. Transmission oil was literally gushing out. Has anyone here done this before? Just how complicated is this, and what parts do I have to change out? ie Are there additional seals and gaskets I would need to change once I have opened the machine up? Given that this seems like quite an exercise, would this affect the condition of the final drive?

Unique 580K Forward/Reverse problem on startup

I have an old 580K (later model) with an issue that has been going on more or less since I purchased it 2 years ago. It’s not prevented me from operating – but would sure like to get fixed if anyone can figure out what may be wrong. Please bear with me while I explain.

In order to get the Hoe to go into forward or reverse the first time I use it, after it has cooled off (overnight or 2+ hours w/out operation) I must first warm it up well, then I have to turn it off, and back on. It simply won’t go onto F/R without first being warmed, and I must turn it off then back on. I could warm it up for > ½ hour and unless I turn off/on it still won’t go into F/R. Once I get it going in F or R, 25% of the time it will slow to a halt after 50-100 ft, and I have to turn it off/on again. Once it’s going, no problem after that at all.

I have no problem with the bucket or hoe hydraulics. I have drained the transaxle and cleaned the suction screen, made sure that the hoses on the suction pipe are clear and tight. No cracks in hose or pipe. There was some small garbage in the very bottom of the suction screen, but no change after cleaned. Changed the filter, and the oil looked in good shape. I have adjusted the shuttle linkage, and have no problems with the shuttle solenoid and button on the shift lever.

Neither the oil pressure or temp sensors are hooked up. None of the gauges or lights worked when I bought it, and I’ve only gotten the bare minimum back online. I don’t have the pressure equipment to test the hydraulic pressures.

To me, somehow, it seems that it’s got to be some kind of interlock with pressure or temperature, that gets reset when turned off/on, but I can’t find anything in any of the manuals or electrical circuits other than the start in neutral sensor on the shuttle. Which seems to be working accordingly, as it will not start unless in neutral. It also seems to me that it’s got to be related to the shuttle in some way since it doesn’t matter if I try F or R – it just doesn’t go either way. But I can’t for the life of me make any sense of why turning off/on would make any difference.

Anything would be appreciated.

Snow tires

So that time has come again for us in the snowy parts of the world. The summer construction season has ended, and every ones snow plows are ready for action. I work for a paving company as a grader man in the summer. We have not had any plowing contracts for the grader in a long time, so I take a loader with a box blade. For the last 5 winters my employers have put snow tires on all 8 of their loaders. A huge expense, but what a difference a soft tire makes. Better traction, and breaking. What are your thoughts. It is most noticeable on larger loaders like 966s 972s and 150 Volvos. No slippage at all.

Kobelco SK330LC-V1 bucket curl slow some times

A crew building a road past my farm needed someone to run a Kobelco SK 330LC-V1 for a week. When it warms up the bucket sometimes is slow to curl or dump. The crew say it has been this way for several years.Being a novice operator it make running the machine difficult.Moving the joystick side to side does not help much either. The other functions work as the should for the most part.I have no idea what has been tried to fix this issue. If someone has any idea in what to try to fix this problem I would like your help.I do know its not low on oil. Thanks

855 cummins engine smoking

Hi really need some help with my cummins engine

I have 1978 855 NTC that is smoking badly, the truck overheated and was blowing heavy white smoke, so I took apart the top of the engine and had the heads checked. The three head gaskets looked ok not blown through. sent heads out supposedly pressure tested one was leaking through the injector seat, had all six changed, heads surfaced and rebuilt valve job, valve guides etc. I put the engine back together and set injectors and valve lash. Fired up the engine it sounded horrible, like a rap in the first cylinder but went away as you increased the rpm's. Took non contact thermometer and measured exhaust temp at manifold ,found no 1 not firing. Changed the injector, started up again much better but still smoking like a train. Brought engine up to operating temp 180 smoke went away but came back while driving. Took valve cover off 1&2 cylinder, head loads of white cream in the section above # 1 piston, ran engine and noticed vapor coming up out of section above # 1 cylinder. Also water vapor droplets on valve cover. Rear breather spiting out small amounts of the white cream I mentioned before. I feel the machine shop did not check the heads properly, and # 1 is cracked. Can anyone tell me what checks I can do before I tear the top half off again. I will buy a new head if needs be . Any help would be great !!!! Thanks

Cat 936F drift

Just purchased this loader #8AJ01502 and trying to get her into shape. But now, I find the machine will not hold itself up.All functions work normal, except the down pressure hold. You can fill the bucket, let it sit over night and it will drift only a couple of inches. But if you lift the front wheels,it will drift back to the ground in a couple seconds. Its acts like there is a check that's not holding. The bottom line is,I't does not drift down, only up!---I should add,the pump makes no noise, all other functions have good power, and speed. And the filter is clear.

Over my head!

Hi All,

I bought an old Pettibone articulated loader, backhoe. This thing is heavy duty!! Nobody around here, BC Canada, has ever heard of or seen one or seems to know anything about it. I just love this old iron though. 453 detroit, allison powershift trans, 4wd, articulated, runs like a dream! EXCEPT, the backhoe groans like an angry grizzly bear under any kind of load, even lifting the empty bucket. The supply hose is vibrating right out of the clamps its so bad. The loader works GREAT.

I dont know much about hydraulics but I am betting its probably something simple. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks is advance.

Case 580E - Trans or Hydraulic Problem? Won't move.

Hi folks. I had a username on here a year or two ago but have gotten a new computer and lost that info. I am having an equipment issue with the shuttle drive system or hydraulic system on my backhoe and would like your feedback. I have searched the forum and cannot find what I need in an existing post. Please redirect me if I have missed it as I don't want to clutter the page.

I have a Case 580 Super E Backhoe, 4x4, with the 4-in-1 bucket and Extend-A-Hoe. Machine hours are just under 7,000. It was used by a paving company since new and the front end loader has numerous welds from what I imagine would be someone ramming old asphalt to tear it up. It does NOT have the strongest hydraulic system. The hoe will not lift the machine's rear end unless you really push it, and then it leaks back down really fast. This gives you an idea of the machine's general condition.

I have owned this backhoe for one year. Bought it for $10,500 last winter. It has always been a bit sluggish. Never wants to climb a slight hill, even in low gears. Engine runs fine, does not bog down. Seems to me like a clutch or something is slipping but I don't know anything about the internals on these units. Here are a list of the symptoms:

1. Machine is sluggish for 1 year. Doesn't like going up hills.

2. Hydraulic filter light recently comes on and off upon first few minutes of driving.

3. Machine has more power once hydraulics warm up.

4. Hydraulic fluid is smelly. Like burnt metal.

5. Machine began making a CRASHING sound internally (sounded like drivetrain beneath my feet) while moving stacks of wood with the front end loader--as if it were popping out of gear. When weight was removed from loader, it ran fine again.

6. Popping and grinding continued for another 30 minutes of operation, especially when under load (pushing with loader or trying to lift something with loader)

7. Conditions worsened yesterday and the machine now fails to move at all. When you engage the shuttle, even in different gears, it pops a bit, some metal crashes internally, and then it doesn't move. Sounds pretty bad to me.

8. It seems to do better when the hydraulic reservoir is completely full. The machine leaks, and it seems to me that as it leaks fluid from the loader cylinders the performance of the drivetrain suffers.

I have never changed the hydraulic fluid or the hydraulic filter.

I have a guy from an hour or so away who has a heavy equipment repair side business. He says he worked on Cats his whole life and has certifications, etc. Seems like a good guy and has started an LLC to repair heavy equipment. Said he will look at it for $75/hr. Has a truck with all the necessary equipment. He is retiring from the military and wants to start this equipment repair business as his retirement income, so I am assuming he isn't some joker looking to rip me off. Being that I only use the machine for jobs around the farm, I am trying to not spend a million dollars fixing it, but from what I have heard these types of repairs can get into the ten thousand dollar range... Ugh.

Thoughts on what the problem could be? Thoughts on using a private mechanic?

Digging a basement with a 955L

Hello all. I just bought 10 ac of land here in Central NC and will be looking to have a house built with in the next few years. The lot is some what flat with a gradual slope. We really want to build a 1600 to 1800 sq ft house with a basement, but after speaking with a builder about it, they claim that a basement will add 35K to the cost of the house. I have a CAT 955L that I can use to dig the hole with, but what I don't have is experience digging basements. I do have a lot of time in the seat digging stumps and clearing land and I feel very comfortable doing this, but I would consider a basement to be a more precision job. Is it as simple as digging an oversize hole to a correct depth or is it a lot more involved? Do y'all think that I will be able to save my self some money by using my machine and time to do this or leave it to the contractor? Thanks, Mike

Small lapses in concentration

Hey all,

I've been nosing around this part of the forum for a while debating whether I should post or not but I have decided that I should for I feel like I can contribute.

Although what I'm posting can be considered "little" things I think it's more than worthwhile to share them. I've certainly learned something from each one.

So here goes:

A while ago I was working in the school workshop on this little tool tray made out of fairly thick (about 1 mm or so it's hard to remember) aluminum. Anyway I was on the drill press drilling holes for the bolts to go through while it was still flat and I had it flat on the pedestal and I was holding it with my left hand. It wasn't pulling much at all as it drilled so I didn't think I really needed to clamp it. So on I went and as I got to hole 15 my mind began to wander. Big mistake because as I started to think about the weekend the drill really bit into the aluminum and grabbed- pulled it right out of my hand and started spinning it around. I hit the stop and grabbed the top of the chuck to slow it - I was worried that the aforementioned big bit of sheet aluminum was going to fly off and hit someone! Lucky it didn't and nobody was hurt- good lesson to learn. I make sure I never ever let my guard down on machinery anymore and I clamp just about everything that's possible while drilling with a press.

A few months back I was pulling the batteries out of a truck- the weather was a little rainy but at that time it wasn't bucketing down just a few drops here or there. Everything was wet however. I was outside in the open air when while I was undoing to battery terminals and as I did I started to feel a bit of a twitch through my hand which I dismissed as myself imagining things (I'm terrified of electricity). So I kept going- and my hand started to feel a little warm. I still dismissed this as all in my mind. Soon enough though, as I continued to undo the the nut on the battery my hand twitched open and I dropped the spanner. I'm quite lucky it didn't fall and bridge the terminals and/ or that I didn't get electrocuted. I still don't understand how I was getting a shock as it was the negative terminal I was undoing but I attribute it to the fact that not only was everything wet, but I was also standing on an all metal truck at the time. Don't second guess yourself if something seems wrong- chances are it probably is. Even if it isn't checking is probably worthwhile ;)

At one stage a mate of mine thought it would be intelligent to make a "ninja star" out of two splintery bits of wood nailed together at school (yeah bad idea- I told him that at the time). However, he started throwing it around later on in day, and I kinda had a bad feeling about it so I put my sunnies on over my eyes (which double as medium rated impact glasses as well - luckily). He threw it pretty bloody hard at me (as best mates do...) and I ducked- but it smacked straight into my face. It hit the right eye of my sunglasses so hard that it split the frame clean at the bottom and spat the lens straight out the bottom as well. It hit me with enough force that after doing all that damage to my beloved sunnies that after bouncing off said sunnies it took a thumbnail sized chunk of skin out of my chin. I dread to think what would have happened if I hadn't taken my sunnies off my forehead and put them over my eyes. I'm glad it hit me and not anyone else- I was the only one wearing any sort of glasses. Don't be that guy that gets carried away with your friends. The bloke who threw it has definitely learned from it- he's quite careful nowadays and he checked on me pretty much hourly the night after it happened. Even bought me a new pair of sunnies. We're still best of mates - but we both realise how lucky we were that day.

So ladies and gentlemen I sincerely hope that by sharing this very small sample of some of the mistakes that I've been involved in or have made myself, that your lives are just that teeny bit safe. Remember it isn't simply a case of you going home to the people who're most important to you, but also of coming home to the people who watch the clock awaiting your return to them, too.

Have fun, and be safe. Hug those who matter to you- chances are you matter just as much to them.

1992 diesel. Fourth owner 4K hrs. Go to purchase running fine. Lifts turns backwards towards everything it should. Pay for it 5K. Load it up get it home pull of trailer. Leave it idle for 10 minutes to park trailer lift bucket up half way and she stops all hydraulics. No control at the sticks no controls at the pedals. No up no down no back and forth. Engine sounds fine. Shut it off to see if boom will leak down, nothing. Go to start it total zero. No crank no starter noise no nothing. Turn key to start, Hyd Charge light, alt light, engine oil press light come on and constant buzzer. Engine oil low, hydraulic oil low and milky white. Remove drain plug from reservoir (nice mess) drain everything I can, hydraulic hoses where I can. Remove suction screen completely clogged. Soak in kerosene clean up nicely soak and clean breathers. New filters, 22 gallons new hydraulic fluid, new oil and diesel filters. Fill hydraulic filters before installing. Buy new bigger wrenches. Get operator and service manuals. Get in go to start same thing. Three lights no turn over steady buzzer. Do I need to prime something, is there a sensor stuck giving a false reading. Why can't I find anything about that buzzer. Does the seat switch have some control over the starting ability. I'm leaning towards electrical, but why did I loose all hydraulics. Got plenty of milky white fluid at screen filter in standpipe when I removed cap. Not sure how much fluid I got out, definatly 10-15 gallons. It doesn't look abused shows some neglect. Low fluids.

Hey guys, I was hoping to get some feedback on what is "fair" to charge a customer on a rather long haul to location.

Basically it is a 1000 mile trip, couple scrapers, dozer, grader, backhoe. I have my number for running up there loaded, how much can I reasonably charge to deadhead back to our yard?

Any feedback appreciated.

JD 35D Throttle Issue

Im working on a John Deere 35D SN pre26000.

Throttle cable bound up tight holding the fuel pump on full at all times. SYS symbol blinking in display. Look at the break down and see there's an actuator and controller in the mix. Talked to a JD tech and his limited experience was change one and then the other-no real way of diagnosing. I looked at the controller and see theres a 6 pin connector dummy plugged and looks like something can happen there for testing or hooking up diagnostics? Dealer wants 1300 for both parts so im not too inclined to plug and play. Anyone have any experience or info with this issue?

Thanks

Versalift hydraulic bucket rotator

Hello, first post here and had a question about my 1991 Versalift VST4000I bucket truck. It has served me well since 2004 but today it left a decent sized hydraulic fluid puddle under the rotatable man bucket/ basket.

After removing the fiberglass covers I can see that the fluid pours out from underneath small hydraulic rotator that is attached to the bucket. This is the rotator that swings the man bucket/ basket left or right on the end of the boom. Not sure what the technical name for this "rotator" is but I'd like to see if I can get it resealed or get a replacement. It's about 6" in diameter and about 8"-10" tall with bolts around the top and bottom for attaching to the equipment.

Any one ever see one and could tell me what the technical name for these rotators are so I can try to find a replacement?

Also got a former railroad company 1985 RO Stinger Crane that I'm going to restore that sits on an International body with a DT466...great engine.

Thanks!

Caterpilar 931/931B transmission problem and parts interchange

I have owned a Cat 931 track loader for about 6 months. I finally got the chance to put it to work two weeks ago. After 3 hours of work I lost the transmission...no forward or reverse. It was working fine and then stopped suddenly. However when it stopped working I smelled something hot. Converter temp guage stayed in the lower green range. I pulled the floor plates and when I spit on the transmission case the water evaporated within couple seconds. Transmission fluid was fairly clear before but is darker now.....has the color of new engine oil now. I have not pulled the transmission screen yet, but I am assuming the worst....that the reason I got a good price when I bought it was because it needs a transmission rebuilt.

I am looking it assistance in two areas.

First to diagnose my transmission. The local CAT dealer let me talk to their senior techs but they were going by memory and could not locate a manual or technical info on their computer. They said to pull the top plate off the transmission and find two 1/8" pipe thread fittings. One marked P1 and one marked P2. They said one is pump pressure and one is clutch pressure. Both should be 250 to 300 psi.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Second, assuming the worst...that it needs a transmission rebuilt, the CAT technicians said nothing gets out of they shop for less than 10K. That is more than I paid for it.

So I have found a 931B for sale with a bad engine....has been torn down for a year and I am told it needs a crank and rod. I can buy it for about 3K. It has a 3204D engine and my 931 just says 3204. The owner thought his 931B was turbocharged but I could not find and turbo in the boxes filled with his engine parts.

My questions Revolve around making one machine from these two machines.

Will the transmission from the 931B fit in my 931? Visual inspection shows the following;

931B has three speeds forward and three reverse. 931 has three forward and one reverse. Visually they look similar but the 931B transmission us longer and has a shorter driveshaft between the transmission and final drive. 931B also has the optional rear hydraulics so it has a hydraulic pump mounted on it.

If the transmission is difficult or will not work at all, then I need to know if the engine will swap from my 931 to the 931B? I find some some specs on line that say that the 931 has 62 hp and the 931B has 64 hp.

I realize I am posing several questions but I can't find any info on line that helps me. My local CAT dealer said that maybe they can send numbers into their corporate headquarters and ask about interchangeability.

Info is as follows;

931 serial 78U4266 arrangement 5G0515

931 engine 3204 serial 45V79895 arrangement 7N 3800 or 3890 ( hard to read)

No numbers listed for transmission

931B serial 29Y0698 arrangement 5G1083

Engine 45V25490 arrangement 7N6938

Transmission 1AA00708 arrangement 7G7599

I would appreciate any help!! Thanks.

New member intro

Hello everyone: I am a new member and just joined a week or so ago. I am recently retired after a lifetime operating heavy equipment in the UK and in Canada. In my time have operated loaders, dozers, scrapers, excavators and graders. Started on loaders B100 drott and later operated Cat 933, 951,955,977,983 scrapers TS14, Cat 627,637, 651 and my favorite, D8 and 463 pull scraper. Dozers ran Track Marshall 55, Cat D4, D6, D7, D8. Ran a D9 with Kelly ripper for Stokey Plant Hire for a short time. Didn't spend too much time on graders or excavators, somehow they didn't appeal to me.

I am a bit shocked at how much I am missing work. Didn't seem that good at the time, long hours etc, but now I realize they were good times. Thanks to this site I am now able to hear what others are up to, see great pics and videos and generally feel I am back into it a bit. Keep up the great work.

Deere 650J hour meter

Hello,

I have a 2006 John Deere 650J that I bought used. I noticed my hour meter wasn't advancing the other day, it just shows the same amount of hours on the screen and also the volt meter just shows 0 volts I already pulled the alternator and had it tested and replaced the external regulator which was supposedly bad but the hour meter and volt meter still aren't working. It has never had an issue hard starting due to weak batteries, which leads me to believe that the alternator is charging correctly. Just hopeing to get an idea of things to check before it gets taken into Deere to let them look at it.

Thanks.

Serial Number on 855 Cummins

I'm trying to find my engine serial.

Cummins 855 big cam in an 81 International 2574. The data tag on the side of the timing cover is missing.

Everyone keeps saying it will be stamped in the block on the driver's side near the 3rd head. Well I can't find it. I pulled off the dog house in the cab even to get another angle, used a mirror, bright flashlights... not seeing anything.

I looked at another truck we have with a 400 Cummins (Ford 9000) and I can't find it on that one either.

Any help? Photos maybe?

I can't get any parts for it, everytime I talk to Cummins they need the serial before doing anything with parts. :Banghead

JLG 2646 hesitates when moving forward or backward

lundi 24 novembre 2014

I have a 2001 JLG 2646 E2 electric scissor lift serial 0200094173. Has 211 hours of run time total so it is really in good shape. It has brand new batteries (2 days old). It lifts up and down perfect with plenty of power, the steering moves perfect, the brake cylinder retracts fine. However, when you try to drive forward or backward it hesitates. Usually it hesitates for 5 to 10 seconds before it then moves. The pump motor is whining away as normal, but it just does not move. When it does finally move it usually gives a slight jerk and then rolls on. If it has been run in the drive mode for awhile and then you stop it for a few seconds, it seems to drive on again with a significantly lesser amount of hesitation (maybe 1-2 seconds). However, if you let it sit and do not drive it for about 3-5 minutes then it again hesitates in moving for 5 to 10 seconds. Sometimes longer. The pump motor whines but the lift does not roll forward. Almost like it is "slipping" but then suddenly grabs after this long period of time. Sometimes it never grabs and slips until you turn it off, but mostly it grabs after 5-10 seconds.

At first, I found that it would drive forward or reverse right off if I pressed the right turn or left turn button at the same time. However, this then stopped helping and that trick no longer works. I have been at a loss to what is wrong here. Here is what I have done so far:

1) I checked the solenoids on the drive forward and drive reverse. Voltage was about 20 V. This seemed to be a little low as I thought it might be 24V but the solenoids worked well and had correct resistance. I thne bought brand new batteries but still no improvement.

2) I then bypassed the solenoid control by disconnecting the wiring and hardwiring a separate 24V source to energize the solenoids. This way I took the joystick/controller out of the picture. Same symptoms. Hesitated driving.

3) I then removed the entire forward/reverse solenoid spool valve (Rexroth ManneMann valve 4WE6E60) and brought it to my clean bench where I took it apart. I checked to make sure that the spool moved OK when the solenoids were energized. The spool moved back and forth fine. (I did notice that the spool diameter and the bore of the housing had about .002 clearance and there were no O rings on it. I am not an expert on spool valves so maybe this is fine, but I would have thought it would have been a tighter clearance. However, there was not signs of wear or galling on the spool OD or bore ID so maybe this is how it is supposed to be?) Everything fine in the spool, no gunk, perfectly clean.

4) I put the entire thing back together and remounted on the JLG lift. When I tried it, same thing. Lift hesitated just like before.

5) I then checked the TOW valve to make sure it was closed. It is tight. If you unscrew it the lift does not drive at all which is how it should be. I am not sure if there is any leakage or this TOW valve is a problem but from what I can tell it seems fine. I took the valve out and inspected it and it looked brand new and seemed to seat fine.

6) I checked the drive in both high and low speed. The lift does the same thing (hesitates) in both the slow and high speed settings.

7) I have just got a gauge to measure the pressure from the MP port. Will do this tomorrow. However, since everything else works fine and strong, I don't think this is an issue with the pressure.

8) I thought about the drive motors themselves having problems. However when it does move it moves strong. Also, the machine only has 211 hours on it. I would not think the motors (or both motors at the same time) would be bad but I have not disproved this yet.

9) Has plenty of fluid, filter is brand new, no clogs in air vent, hoses are fine.

10) I am not sure when this drive hesitation started as we had been using it mostly for up/down. I did move the machine recently with my Lull and it got shook around slightly but nothing drastic.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have all the JLG on line manuals but they do very little to help with this particular problem. I had tried calling JLG but they would not talk to me as I do not have an account. I tried to get an account only to find that I would need to be a dealer and sell a certain number of machines to qualify. (I am a builder and not a JLG sales store) I tried calling JLG service but no one can get to me for quite a long time and when they do, travel time and costs get pretty prohibitive unless I was to ship the machine to them. I do not have a trailer or truck big enough to move this machine. I would really like to be able to fix this on my own as I enjoy working on these machines. Thanks for any suggestions!

I have a 98 lull with jd non turbo 3 speed transmission. I'm having trouble with rear oscillation lock. With boom down and both proximity sensors working my transmission is in 3rd gear. If I raise the boom until that rear osc flips of then I can shift from 1st and second gear. I replaced both sensors and are opening and closing as usual.according to the jlg parts diagram there is a couple Osc relays and trans ecu. But I have no idea where on the unit they are located. I got into circuit board and found nothing wrong or related to the problems. Anyone have related trouble and or advice thanks

Trencher for installing tile

I am thinking of getting a trencher to install short runs of tile. Probably 50-500 ft runs in random areas, not pattern tiling anything, putting in 4" up to 6" tile. I shouldn't need to trench deeper than 4 ft. I have a backhoe to dig starts.

What are anyone's recommendations for doing this? Type of trencher and laser grade system to use?

How do you feed the tile into the trench and ensure that it's bedded properly?

Can this be done with one person? Is it worth doing with a trencher? I'm not interested in a wheel machine and I don't have a tractor to put on a plow.

Thanks for your input.

Asplund Chipper engine options

I have an older Asplund Chipper, I believe it's a JEX style... I'm trying to figure out what engine is in it. Its a FE style big block Ford engine... I'm thinking it's a 360 but the stickers on the valve covers are worn off. Does anybody know what the engine options were for this style chipper. I believe it has a cracked piston and would like to see if I can find a replacement engine from a salvage yard. The engine is mounted via the bell housing and the front timing cover.... thanks

Midland Air Compressor

Hi forum, I recently pulled the head off my Midland air compressor for an inspection for oil in the air system. The compressor bores are as new with no apparent wear shown around the top of the cylinder bores but with a slight residue of oil on the face of the head around the valves. The compressor is a Midland KN13060. The pistons are firm in the bores and I do not want to remove the cylinder as yet. I am sourcing parts for it at the moment and the question was asked if the pistons are oversize, would this be stamped on the top of the pistons if they were. Do any readers have any spec sheets available for this compressor.

We are thinking seriously about making a purchase of the above excavator, Ser # 3LRxxxx, with the 3046T engine in it & from the research I have done it looks like it was mfg. in Japan. I believe it is a year 2000 with 10,000 hrs. on it & it still seems like a good runner & fairly tight. Can anyone out there running one of these or have knowledge about them, be able to shed any light on the subject? We only intend to run the machine 100-200 hrs. a year doing misc. smaller work & work on our rural property.

Starter Replacement

Hey all,

Well i guess the starter finally took a poop. Fired up and used for about 20min. Shut down for about a half hour and went to refire and i could hear the starter spinning over but not engaging. It did this one time about 4months ago. Lucky then i just turned the key off then re fired and it cranked right up. Not been an issue since. Tried the same thing today but no dice. Starter just spins and spins and won't engage. I tried to bump it with a steel pipe but not enough room to do anything.

So my question is what is the best way to remove this darn thing. Ive never pulled a starter before on anything. Will i need to drain the oil ? Or dose it just unbolt and come out and install is reverse of removal ?

Its a 2005 ASV RC 100. It has the Perkins 1104c-44t motor in it.

THinking i can access it through the belly pan but never yanked one out. This will be done in the field so any suprizes i might encounter would be nice to know about. Like a mass amount of oil pouring out once removed or springs washers etc.

Thanks !

Snorkel Man Lift, no start

I've got a Snorkel man lift with a Ford LRG-425i Engine, and when the weather is warm is seems to start and run fine. but now in the winter it won't start for anything, I was able to get it to start a few times by taking the coil out and putting it in the oven for 15 mins and then it would start with a shot of ether. so got a new coil and still same problem, also when it's cold there is no spark at all. sometimes when I have one of the plug wires off checking for spark I'll get 1 spark and hear the engine try to start but since I have the wire off it won't start, and then it goes back to no spark. any suggestions?

Best way to drain all of the coolant out of a 312 cl.

I made the mistake of pouring a half gallon of green antifreeze into my 312. As soon as it got to the level where I could see it, it was strawberry red and I knew I screwed up. Some say they're both ethyl and it should be ok, some say don't do it. I don't want to take any chances. (Never bothered to look in the expansion tank to see what type it was) :Banghead So I went to my local Cat dealer, picked up 6 gallon of ELC and start the drain, flush and change process. Opened up the draincock on the radiator and drained it, but only about 2.5 gallon came out. I know there should be a couple more gallon in there between the hyd oil cooler, air conditioner, and what's in the block. What is the best way to get it all out without running 50 gallon of water through it and having a large volume of waste to dispose of?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cat d6d injector pump leaks around throttle linkage shaft 3306

Hello,

My injector pump has an intermittent leak where the shaft exits for where the throttle linkage connects.

Do I need to take it an injector shop or cat dealer for pump work or can I somehow pull off the plate and install a new seal easily in the field? Injectors pumps can be tedious.....any tips?

Cost? Process of fixing it?

I'd really appreciate any help.

Oh, while I am at it.....the fuel pressure gauge is fogged over. Do I need to buy this at cat or can I get one at my local napa? Shouldn't it be an outdoor waterproof style gauge? What reading should it set up for? 0-200 or what? Lol. Or white to red? Thanks!

Sorry for lack of info i only ran it for awhile somebody called in sick. Hyds worked fine when rapped up, first thought was pump going out but they said it was the same thing that happened bfore. Help in installing injectors in a 3304 PC

It's my first time installing injectors in a 3304 PC motor (955L). I have no diagrams that show how to install the injectors and I believe they were installed wrong from before. It seems like the injector wasn't seated in the spline portion of the PC chamber. I also did an experiment dropping the injector tip down into the PC chamber. By my simple investigation it seems the injector assembly needs to seat into the spline section at least 3/16". I am hoping I can get help on how to properly seat the injectors into the PC chamber.

Case 1450B fuel system issues

Greetings, I posted this in the crawler loader forum also, but I figured I'd double my chances by posting here also. I have an old 1450B crawler loader which has been sitting for a few years. I fired her up in the spring and early fall and she ran well those couple times. Now colder weather is here and she seems to be running out of fuel after 10-15 minutes run time. Changed out the primary and secondary fuel filters ran much better, but still seems to starve for fuel after 10 minutes... wont throttle up then eventually dies. I assume some junk is getting sucked into screens somewhere in the fuel system, causing this problem. Do any of you fine folks know, or have a diagram of where the screens are in the system? I was going to start at the tank and work my way forward, but I'm not sure what screens/pickups are in the tank and any help would be greatly appreciated. I see a large plug with a petcock on the bottom of the tank. I assume there is no lift pump on these? Unfortunately, I find myself having to do a small job on my property with it and cold weather makes troubleshooting troublesome. Thanks again for any help/advice/diagrams etc -George

Ford 5500 trans fluid flow

Good morning everyone,

Does anyone know the direction of the flow of the transmission fluid on the 5500?? Since that pipe filter assembly that runs under the trans is no longer available, I am plumbing in a remote spin on filter and want to make sure I get the inlet right. I suspect it flows from the bottom outlet of the trans, thru the filter, then to the pump???

Thanks guys again!!!

Mysterious Hydraulic Activity Cat 320L

Hoping somebody can assist, I'm sure I read of someone here with a similar issue but couldn't locate it in the search. Was walking the old girl up a hill today and it staggered almost to a stall but then when I opened the grapple (bucket ram controls) it picked up speed. Carried on up the hill opening and closing grapple and it sort of jerky bunny hopped its way up there. What causes this? Thanks for listening.

Discontinued Kubota Everclutch discs???

I have a Kubota L3650 split in my shop that has the Everclutch wet engine clutch in it. I have unfortunately found out after taking the job that A; very few tractors were built with it, and B; Kubota has discontinued the discs (PN 35080-14302) in the clutch pack and the ONLY way my dealer and I have found them available is in a new clutch pack (only $5K...). The tractor and loader aren't worth what they want for the clutch! My question; is there any company who can custom make wet clutches with bonded fiber linings and separator discs?

Sullair blowing oil

vendredi 21 novembre 2014

I have a 1996 Sullair 185 DPQ compressor that is having issues. We have been using it to sandblast with and it has been blowing oil into the moisture separator on the blast pot. Also it is blowing oil out of what i assume is some sort of bypasses, one is right above the compressor head on the left side and another near the back of the control panel. It has been cold so i was thinking maybe something is freezing but we have kept the hoods closed and it seems that everything is warn inside the machine. Also, we went to top off the compressor oil shortly after shutting down and there was a bit of pressure behind the oil filler plug. It will slowly overflow when removing the cap. Any ideas??

Terex loader steering is binding/sticking.

Hello, I have a Terex 72-31B loader from around 1978-1982 (not sure) The machine has around 5000 hrs and runs well. The steering has a pretty severe binding/sticking issue. The loader steers fine if you steer very slowly, but if you spin the steering wheel too quickly it will lock up. Once it locks up, the only way to free it is to force the steering wheel in the opposite direction with considerable force. Because of this problem the machine goes down the road fine, but has trouble maneuvering around while loading trucks. This loader does have a large cylindrical accumulator under the cab on the curb side. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

JD 325 cold starting issues - low oil pressure

Ever since I bought the Deere 325, in cold weather (20-30F), it has started rough and puts out a few brief beeps then smoothes down and warms up. One time I thought I saw a brief "low oil pressure" message on the display but it was gone too quick to be sure.

Well the other day I started it (oil temp was 32), it did it's usual action but this time it lasted longer and even a "stop" icon came up on the display. It lasted only a couple of seconds.

Is this normal behavior for a 325? Or do I have a problem? I would hate to even think about trying to start it at 10 or 15 degrees.

Thanks,

Ken

930g hydraulic load/noise

Not sure where to look first... when I leave the loader idling with no loads for an hour the hydraulic oil overheats. also when I attempt to start the engine I need to turn the steering wheel to unload the engine so it will start. JCB 1CX/208 Newbie

Hi guys,

Just joined this forum. I'm not a contractor or equipment operator. I just purchased a used 2003 JCB 208HF with 760 hours. I have a large property in a rural area and bought it for snow removal and landscaping/maintenance (and for FUN!!!). I don't have any manuals with it, operators or service. I have not received the machine yet.. I bought it in NY state and I live in Nova Scotia Canada. I am having it trucked here. So any help or advice you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have electronic versions of the manuals they are willing to share.

I purchased a used snow blower as well with a flow rating of 55 - 62 lpm. I believe the auxiliary circuit on the 208HF is around 90 lpm. I've been asking around and one "hydraulics guy" says if the high flow pump is variable displacement and load sensing, it won't be a problem. I know I should not run 90 lpm through a motor who's maximum rating is 62 lpm. Does anyone know if I can make this blower work on the 208HF?

Thinking about getting into heavy haul. Opinions?

jeudi 20 novembre 2014

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster.

For the past few years I have been wanting to get a lowboy and going into to business for myself. I have hauled small equipment such as skid steers, mini-x, rollers, telehandlers, and various attachments with my diesel pickup and tri axle gooseneck when I worked for a komatsu/link belt/jcb/terex dealer. I know I didn't do it the legal way as I didn't have any permits or commercial plates, but I loved it.

When I worked at the dealership as a mechanic, I loaded about any type of equipment you can think of. From 627 and ts14 scrapers, 400 class hoes, larger loaders (wa470 and wa500), graders, double drum and pad foot rollers, grove 765 cranes, d155 dozers, all on lowboys and step decks. I don't have a issue with running a dozen or hoe up a steep set of ramps. I also helped the truckers chain down and learned a thing or two.

I have experience driving and working on trucks, I farm with my dad and have a few trucks. Iv been looking at Kaufman, talbert, and trail king 55 ton hyd detatchs eventually I would like to get a stinger and maybe even a jeep. The price on the kaufmans sure seams nice, but are they as good as the others? I would go with a wetkit on the truck, mainly some wouldn't have to deal with another motor to start.

The only reserves I have about jumping into this is I know nothing about permitting and running under authority, not even sure what that means to be honest. Also, how does one go about getting loads? That's probably the biggest deal for me. There is a cat, case, Deere, Hyundai, and the komatsu dealer I spoke about previously about in town. But beside going from shop to shop offering my services, how does one go about this?

ill take all the advice you have to offer.

Thanks, rusted
