Political ads on HEF seriously

How come from time to time today and the last few days, are there political ads on the top of HEF both before and after I log in? did I miss an inner office memo that now we can bash politicians? Seriously guys it can't be just me on my computer can it?? It shows up just like the ads do in the yellow area for construction advertising. Did some spam slip through the system and make it up on the system? Just curious as to what's up, never seen it before and hopefully never see it again, we all get enough everywhere else its not needed here too.

873 flat face connector size

After failing to get a response from Bobcat and my local dealer I thought I would give a forum a try.

I am setting up a snow plow so I can mount it on my tractor and 873. From what I found on the Internet the flat face coupler and nipple appear to be 5/8" ISO 16028. The 873 has the standard flow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Problem with wiring for lights on hitachi ex60-2. Need help

Hi my name is paudie.

I am new to this site and could do with some help.

I have a hitachi ex60-2 which I use on my farm. Last year I fitted new working lamps. I replaced the old exsiting one on the boom and at the right hand side. I also fitted two new work lamps on the roof for extra visibility when working at night.

The lamps worked fine for the year until just at the beginning of summer when they started blowing fuses. I didn't pay any attention to this as the evenings where bright I didn't need lights. I tought the wires around the lights might be touching or there was a short on a wire.

So yesterday I started to search for the problem, I traced all the wiring back right into the lumes underneath the cab for a shorting wire but no luck. I checked the back of the switch for burned wire as I thought maybe adding the new lights might have caused over load and melted wires. I also checked the fuse box to see if there was any wires stripped or burned that my be shortig but there isn't.

I can't find the problem so far and don't know where to look next. With all the wires disconnected from the lights the fuse is still being blown. I don't know.

Could someone who knows a little more about the wireing circuits of the machine please help as I need the lights working. Thank you

Paudie.

Building a website for a heavy equipment company - Any suggestions?

Hello! Hope you doing good!

My name is Lucas and I'm a webdesigner from Brazil. I'm here in Heavy Equipment Forums because I'm doing a website for Tractorbel, a brazilian company, and I'm not familiar with the business.

I would like to hear more from you, suggestions, ideas or whathever come to your mind :)

  • What do you think a good website of the business should have?

  • What you usually seek in a website of heavy equipments?

  • There's something that really annoy you or on the contrary, surprises you on such website?

Tractorbel's main fields of operation:

  • Sale of New and Used Heavy Equipment

  • Rental

  • Pieces and Components

  • Services (Mechanics, mainly)

I really appreciate anything you can tell me, I like to have a good understading of my client's business before designing and programming the website, I seek results, a useful, secure, beatiful and light website.

I would like to take this opportunity to leave here my contact for web development, too:

I live in Brazil, but I speak english fluently, if you would like you can add me on skype as well: bustamante.lucas

Thanks a lot guys! :usa:usa (I really admire U.S by the way)

NEW GUY: Case 580c Engine Surge

New to Forum, a bit diesel illiterate, I have only worked competently on gasoline engines. I am a total D.I.Y. type of person.

Here is the situation. Bought a 1979 Case 580C with an extendahoe for $4,300. All hydraulic circuits work, tractor runs, but you can understand the condition of the machine based on the price. It is very worn out. I have to start it by jumping the starter solenoid because all of the wiring is cut, missing, or burnt. Changed Fuel and oil filters, but should change hydraulic filter and I should change the antifreeze. Anyways, since I have owned it....1 year, if I operate it at full throttle for approximately 10 minutes, it will stall. If I let it sit for a minute, it will restart just fine. So basically, I don't run the engine at high RPM for any length of time. I do, however, seem to have an engine surge issue. It would only do it if I ran it hard, then stopped and idled it. It surges a bit at Idle sometimes, but surges quite a bit in mid range RPM. I think I have a decent idea of how a diesel engine works, but have no practical experience. With this tractor, I assume that the engine is completely mechanical. I am guessing that the fuel injection system runs consistently on a specific fuel to air ratio (no choke circuit like a gas engine). I do not know how to diagnose or even take proper care of it. Besides air, engine, and fuel filters, I am unaware of other engine maintenance procedures I should perform. I know the expense of a fuel injector pump, but do not know how to test it or if there is anything I can do to keep it in good mechanical shape.

I have been busy rebuilding cylinders, new starter, bushings, etc. I would eventually like to fully rebuild it because it is so darn useful. I am right in the middle of a construction project and I try to keep up with the hydraulic hose bursting.....(yeah, I am very careful of myself and others). I want to make sure that I do not damage the engine inadvertently due to the engine surge. Any advice on engine operation and maintenance is greatly appreciated. I bought a huge online manual for it. It is OK, it has helped me with parts breakdowns, etc, but not "diesels for dummies" section.

thanks.....

brian

Bobcat 751 frozen

Guys: I need your help. This machine refuses to move, forward or reverse. Bucket refuses to lift, lower, dump. Engine starts/runs fine. You can hear the pumps "load" when I try to operate it, but it won't move. This machine has the BICS, but it is NOT lit up. None of the gauges are working. The front headlights DO work. I have checked the fuses and all appear OK. I raised the cab and looked for bad connections, worn wires, but found none. The Traction Lock Override Button doesn't light up or appear to operate. The parking brake appears to have no affect either way.

I have operated equipment for years, but am not much of a mechanic, so keep answers simple. I figure it has to be an electrical issue. Any help at all will be appreciated and thanks. Mark W

Bucket drift problem 980G Cat

This is a 980 G 2KR03066 front end loader new in 1999 and now has a bit over 26,000 hours.

Well just as I was leaving work operator comes in and says the bucket is drifting, says if he is holding loaded bucket in air while waiting for next truck to back in the tilt cylinders will start drifting. Like I said I was walking out he door at the end of the day so did not have chance to see how fast this was happening and won't be back on the job till Monday morning. Both tilt cylinders were resealed a couple months ago and he did not mention any external leaks.

This machine has the control valve up front with the solenoid controls. I love how every time you remove the cover over the valve it is buried under a foot of wet dirt and stone, not the best location for that wiring and those solenoids! Just wondering if someone has a good place to look, trying not to think too much about it over the weekend:D But I'll at least take a look on SIS and see what I find!

Issue with Bobcat S175

I have a 2005 Bobcat S175 - 592 hours

The other day I using it to move some mud and I had been using it for about 6 hours straight without any problems.

All of a sudden the general warning lights comes on and it beeps 3 times and shuts off!!

I tried disconnecting the battery and let it sit, that cleared it and it worked for about another 45 minutes and then did the same thing!

Any idea what could be causing this?

How do I fix it?

Any help is appreciated.

JD Skid Steer Hydraulic Quik-Atatch

Anyone have a problem with theirs suddenly stop working? Operating for half a day switching out attachments and right when I went to swap attachments and park for the night the system stopped working halfway through unlocking.

First thing I'm going to check fluid levels.

Second make sure there is nothing lodged in some place it shouldn't be.

Already checked fuses and wires all look good.

Next run a tester and see if power gets to motor, if so test motor with alternate source.

I think the motor quit on me, it not what else could I be missing? Is it possible to run this system manually? I really need to switch my bucket for forks and can't have this hold me up.

Thanks in advance!

Statute of limitations

Does anyone know the statute of limitations for paying a bill if you've not received a single bill in the mail, email or anything ever, no its not a bogus question, believe it or not, I do business with a place, that hasn't sent me a single bill in over nine years. At first it wasn't bad, been doing business with them for over 30 years and after a death in the ownership, the place has gone downhill somewhat over time in the last decade. At first it was a mission to pay the bill before years end, but we'd get it done, go in two weeks before the end of the year, tell the bookkeeper I'd be back in a few days have it ready and I'd pay it, usually take a few try's, taking a week to a week and a half but I'd get it done before the end of the year. That was up until about 10 years ago, so I'd try a different tactic, every month I'd ask for a bill at least once while in there, never got one the whole year, so tried plan A again just before the end of the year, didn't happen, didn't get that bill paid that year, they never had it figured out so I could, and the next few years were about the same, didn't get it done anytime though out the year for the next few years.

So we fast forward a few years and I asked my attorney what to do about it, his reply was if they send you one, bring it in, but he up and died on me a few years ago before I ever got a bill, so when I was in another attorney's office, I asked him.................after he got done laughing, since he didn't believe me at first................he quit laughing when he realized I was serious, he said he'd have to check for me, that was a few years ago, never really got much of an answer and the question was asked of me again this week, when's the last time you received a bill from that place, being asked by a customers of mine at the time, I told him the truth, its been over nine years ago, how about you, he said he couldn't remember and neither could his wife, she gave up trying to pay the place and was so disgusted she quit going back to even ask for a bill.

So does anyone know for sure, I've been told its five years, others have asked me and I don't know for sure, mainly about the same business.

Deere 310 Backhoe, need help IDing light switch terminals

I did the thing NOT to do...disconnect wires and forget where they go back... Well, sort of, actually I DID make a diagram, but can't find it. Anyway The manual shows four terminals, the light switch actually has six terminals. The main feed (wire 6C) is obvious, the yellow and orange pair for the flashers (#13 & #14) go to the FL terminal, but where do the blue pair (#17 & #18) and the pink wire (#19)attach?

Cat 416 E ride control not working

I have a 2006 416E Cat backhoe with serial # arrangement SHA and I am having trouble figuring out what is wrong with the ride control. It has stopped working almost totally, (it still moves up and down about a 1/2 inch). I have checked all fuses, tested the resistance across the solenoids, ( 8 ohms), tested the pressure of the accumulator and it has 280 psi in the system, but still no ride control. Does anyone out there have an idea of where I should look next? It would appear to me that one solenoid or valve is working and the other is not, if thats possible.

JLG N40E, 5 flashes on controller

It says motor neither high nor low(open circuit), could someone please shed some light on this. When I was first called to look at this, they said lift and drive would just stop working for a while and than start working again after a random amt of time. You could hear the solenoids clicking but nothing except basket rotation would work. I thought it might be main contactor, hyd pump not kicking in. Looked in bad shape and fell apart when i removed it, but that was not it. Lift is '99, been used quite a bit, I installed a new controller, did not help. It will work for a while, than just quit, does not matter if ground control or basket is used. Flash 5 times, I thought it might be 6 but this one guy was positive it was 5. Than it starts working again. Basket rotation always works, cant be sure about the steer wheels, one time I think they did move while faulted, will find out for sure tomorrow. Out of the 8 batteries one is newer and it always seems wet on top, swollen on the top on one end. Would a bad cell in the battery circuit show as open circuit. Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

1960's? MF 304 Industrial tractor odd clunking noise

No backhoe on this one, but it's either this forum or Old Iron. A 304 is similar to a MF 50 with shuttle shift, two right pedals, one forward, one reverse.

Massey Ferguson 304 Industrial tractor with Perkins 4 203 engine has a clunking or light knocking sound that is once every ten seconds at idle, goes away at faster than idle speed.

My guess is something is floating around in the torque converter? it seems to be in the area of the sound.

Any other guesses, or has anybody actually seen this before?

Pet Peeve about greasing equipment

Need to vent a little here, sorry!

Why is it that some people seem to think if you fail to grease a machine at regular intervals you can make up for the lack of grease by pumping several pounds of excess grease in the fitting to make up for the lack of grease?

Was starting to wash up a WA-600 Komatsu to replace a couple hoses that had been seeping a little oil near the crimped on fittings. After a little time with pressure washer decided I'd better clean off some of the clumps around the center pin area. I was able to more than fill a large shoe box with what was mostly fresh clean grease that looked like it had just come out of the grease gun! Come on it's not like this area is far removed from the grease fittings, lower one is right at the bearing area and the upper is maybe 16 inches away right at eye level.:Banghead

I've had people tell me they don't have a problem with seeing a machine with gobs of grease on it like this one. They say at least they know it is getting greased. But what I see too often is nobody seems to feel the need to grease a machine until they can hear the screeching of the bucket pins over the blaring radio or their cell phone. Then they will pump the grease to it to be sure it gets to where it's needed. And just to be safe they will hit every fitting on the machine. I've tried to explain many times that on a loader only the fittings at the bucket and hoist and tilt cylinders need daily greasing, most others once a week or even less is more than enough. Just glad no one has seen the fan drive and idler pulley grease fittings or I would hate to think what the engine belts would look like!

Rant over ,,,,for now!

Clark 1975 175B Wheel Loader Parts

Creating a Rental Corp. SPLIT Companies How To?

Background and main purpose:

I currently operate an underground pipeline corporation in California. I've been tossing around the idea of separating my personally owned equipment into a separate rental company, mainly to rent back to my pipeline corporation. At the moment, I run the equipment as a mini profit center(renting equipment to my projects internally). I'm planning to form a LLC to operate as a holding company with the pipeline and possible equipment rental under one holding creating a barrier between assets and thus making it tougher to pierce the corporate veil in the event something goes array. I own several 70k excavators, mini excavators, 10+ backhoes, several 5 yard loaders, water trucks, skids, vac trucks...ect.

Questions/Explanations: (Before consulting CPA, Lawyers, and Financial Advisors I'd like to hear from folks who have done something similar)

1) Tax impact on both companies at the Fed and State level. (renting back equipment)

2) Asset transfer from one company to the other. (Buy, sell, rent, lease)

3) Overhead impact? (The rental company would pay the pipeline company for services like payroll, ect.)

4) If I eventually rent equipment to other companies than myself, what are some challenges that a heavy equipment rental company has?

5) In the slow times (down economy) what are some options for the equipment rental companies. (buying equipment vs. leasing vs. renting to own to others)

6) In house mechanic vs. outsourced?

7) Tax impact on owner operated equipment vs. pure rental equipment

I appreciate the help/comments in advance.

310-A backhoe hydualic pump in tranny how do you remove?

hi

I didn't get to work on it this year but I tested last year

I tested the hydraulic pump on the front of the backhoe and was told if I don't get 100 psi from the one line I tested its the pump in the tranny. As I can drive it but the hydraulics don't work or the back section would move like frozen molasses and I forget I was getting like maybe 45-50psi

I was told I have to remove the engine to get inside the tranny to change this pump that feeds the hydraulic pump at the front. I already have the loader and the front part off just not the engine

what are the steps I need to do?

China Version Cat ET

Hello. I am trying to get some feedback on the China version of Cat ET. Does it actually work, and is it legal to use it? I was a CAT EPG Tech for over 10 years and have started working at a site where I commissioned all the emergency power equipment. I do most of all the work myself, but the one thing I am lacking is CAT ET. When I was at CAT I had heard about China's version but never had any experience. I am not trying to cheat CAT out of their money but I know that they are proud of their stuff and allot of times there are cheaper alternatives. So any info or experience you have would be appreciated. Thank you.

cat 320C pressure issues

Hi guys,

Recently I had some pressure issues with my Cat 320C FBA02823 excavator because the boom and jack hammer both were acting slow. So I got a Cat technician and he calibrated the pressure of left and right pump to 551. Now after that the machine has started bursting old pipes, the jack hammer is sometimes slow and sometines fast. The hydraulic temp is ok on the screen but after 10 min work one can barely touch the rubber pipes and I could remember it was not like this before.

Boom speed couldnt get better because then then the engine starts lugging. Dont know whats the problem with it. I am thinking of checking thr left and right pump regulator for any debris or spool stuck.

Have checked all the fuel lines and changed all the filters, and also the Cat technician calibrated the prv.

Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Genie TMZ 34-19 lights on but nobody home

Hey all,

I'm trying to sort out an electric Genie lift sn: 3400 - 307 (2000 model) for a mate.

Yes, I have searched and checked out other posts, and will check out as many of the suggestions as possible , but one major difference I find is that I have 12 volts on the key switch and the stop button.

Other than that, all the lights come on fine when turned on, but none of the controls work (it's stuck with the outriggers down at the moment and the level lights all fine).

Apparently it would do this intermittently, and after a while start working as it should. I have 24 volts from the batteries, and at the motor controller, and coming into the lower control unit.

Any suggestions? I'm in Australia, so I'm assuming the only real difference should be the input voltage on the charger.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

310SJ has trouble moving when cold

mardi 28 octobre 2014

I'm new to the forum and relatively new to equipment repairs/maintenance so any help is appreciated. As the title says my 2007 310sj doesn't like to move when it's cold. After giving the engine a few minutes to warm up I put it into forwards or reverse in 1st gear and it wont crawl ahead like it normally would at idle. If I give it a lot of throttle it will start to inch ahead very slowly. Same results in forwards and reverse in any gear. Eventually after a minute or two of barely crawling around it will gradually start putting more power to the tires until it drives normally. The front end loader and backhoe work fine when its cold. The parking brake is not on and there are no codes or trouble lights. Thanks in advance.

hitachi ex60 swing planetaries gear oil selection and fill level?

for once, the title about says it all. just replaced short seal and bearings at the bottom of the planetary housing and i'm putting back together. the orginal dip stick for the gear oil broke off long ago. i used to think i knew about how far below the original dipstick mount i was trying to get a fill level but that is lost along with many other things in my memory.

the fluids chart is, of course, in japanese so i am guessing from a very rough location chart that it might be calling fro 2.5 liters of gear oil. but that is a complete guess. i'm going to look through various documentation that i've been lucky to receive over time here, but i'm wondering if anyone has any rough experience, i.e. fill the lower bearings and halfway up the plantetaries or . . .

and how heavy can i get away with to avoid leaking in the future for minor seal roughing kind of stuff.

thanks,

brian

Quick question. Looking at buying a non running unit for scrap price. I was hoping to get it up and running. It has timing issues and fuel pump problems. Seller says it's obsolete and hard to get parts for. Is this true? What is a safe price for a 75000 lbs machine that is a 1999 model.

Volvo A25C - Cylinder Liners

Just purchased 6 new cylinder liner kits and the liners are a tad to big. Volvo tells me these are the right ones for this machine. However on the old liners it gives me a number of 1.3 and the new liners have a number of 1.9. Would these numbers have anything to do with why the new ones won't fit?

I have a New Holland E385 year 2006. It starts good and has good power, then after one hour engine start to stall on load and even shut down. I already changed injectors, but didn't input numbers on the ECU. Could this be the problem or is it the main fuel pump plunger or solenoid? By the way it has an isuzu AH-6HK engine. Is there any way to test rail pressure on the monitor or to do a quick diagnose, thank you

Cat 420d operator alert

Fixed one issue on the backhoe and now have another. Initially had a no start issue that was relieved by replacing a very weathered/broken 125A fusible link and giving the old girl time to run. Now starts every time, no power draw and even after 3 days of no operating started first time.

One issue that I don't have the ability to hook up to a tester is my operator alert light stays flashing. Red diamond with exclamation in center. Does this symbol have various warning meanings like a CEL in a daily driver or does it come one for one single issue? Backhoe seems to run fine, cycles through everything, AC even blows cold...

Cat 320C not revving as high as it should

Hi guys, I'm a long time reader, first time poster. Firstly this forum is great!

I have a Cat 320C (2000 year) with 12,500 hours on the clock, engine still original apart from rebuilt turbo about 1000hrs ago, starts first time every time and blows no smoke. Hydraulic pumps were rebuilt at 10,000 hrs. Over the last 12 months the machine has been getting slower and slower to use, took a while to realise that the engine revs at throttle setting 10 were far lower than they should be, at 16-1700rpm. The rpm at full throttle should be around 2100 am I correct? When manually revving the engine by twisting the throttle on the injector pump the most we can get out of it is 1850rpm, the machine runs a lot better but nowhere like it used to. I'm thinking the injector pump needs servicing or rebuilding? All fuel lines are clear (incl. banjo fitting screen), and the machine is regularly serviced. It's not lugging down at all, just sooooo slow to use! Can anyone help?

Regards, Glenn

Kubota Quick Coupler Repair

I have a KX161 with a worn quick coupler. It appears that most of the wear is in the ears on the bucket. What would be the best way to repair this? I have thought about doing a build up on the bucket, but I have some concerns about how to re-shape it to fit the coupler on the machine.

Alternatively, can the bucket and coupler be repaired at a machine shop? Hopefully they won't need to be replaced.....

Thanks.

Hybrid loader from the 60's or early 70's?

I was looking at some old Cat brochures and pictures on the net and saw an interesting picture of a Cat wheel loader with the front wheels converted to crawler tracks. Jcb 930 forklift won't start

Hello folks my name is Pete I'm new to the forum. I'm looking for some help with a jcb 930 forklift. I was using it just fine today when suddenly the reverse beeper came on while it was in neutral. Nothing else went wrong so I kept working until I shut it down for lunch. I came back after lunch and the reverse beeper was still beeping in neutral and now the motor won't turn over like the starter is locked out. I should have just left it running. So no other indication of a problem, it ran and worked fine until this and now I'm stuck. Can anyone offer some suggestions? Thanks a bunch!

Cat trouble codes

We have a d6t serial # lay1078. The blade tilted to the right today on its own and stopped functioning. Thought it was maybe a bad solenoid. A few minutes later the operator started it, drove it onto hard ground, pushed the blade into the ground and it started working again. Ran it the rest of the day trouble free but it now has a light blinking on the dash, which I assume means a trouble code. How do I retrieve the code?

Champion 730A diff lock solenoid location

I'm trying to troubleshoot a malfunctioning diff lock for our village grader. Can anyone confirm the location of the diff lock/unlock solenoid on a 730A? There's a solenoid valve that looks suspiciously correct inside the frame on the curb side directly between the tires. Is this likely to be the one I'm looking for? Is there anything else back there that could run off a hydraulic solenoid valve?

The backstory: our little village bought this grader about a year ago from a broker who took it in from another village so the maintenance history is unknown. The local operator left under unpleasant circumstances this summer so nobody knows whether or not the lock was releasing last winter. The main purpose of the grader is snow removal so it doesn't get much use during the summer. This fall while we were training our new operator it became apparent that the diff is staying locked up, regardless of the position of the switch in the cab. I have confirmed power to the switch and there is power to the solenoid in the location identified above. Before I go any deeper I'd like to confirm that I am looking at the right solenoid. Assuming I am, my next thought was to swap the output hydraulic lines on the valve body and see if that releases the diff but I'm open to other troubleshooting steps.

Keeping gaskets in place during assembly

A question, what tricks and gadget's are you using to keep gaskets in place during assembly?

A Snap On dealer had a neat little clip devise that you pinched it closed and inserted it into the bolt hole past the gasket, when you release it, two tabs held the gasket in place, after the bolts were started in other holes, you pinched it closed and pulled it out, and inserted the bolt.

Anyone else use them? Is there anything like it out there?

Thanks,

Bob

Deutz 1011F starting hard, smoking a little.

I ended up buying the 883. Its the hardest starting Deutz I've ever seen. On a 45F day, it took a minute of cranking to get it to light off. Not sure if glow plugs are working but it shouldn't matter...My other 2 machines crank over twice and fire, without glowing on a day like today. 2900 hours, dealer serviced. Smokes a little as well...bluish/black smoke. Air filter doesn't look too good, will be ordering all new filters this week. I'm leaning towards timing belt jumped or valves too tight. Any guess's?

2007 Case 440ct - Opinions - the good, the bad and the ugly.

I am thinking of adding a low hour tracked machine to my fleet. I really wanted a takeuchi tl140 or tl10 or even a tl150 or 12.

I want an enclosed cab machine with ac. Not sure about hi flow.

Today, I went and tested out a 440ct. It drove just like my 75xt. I knew when I got in it that I was in trouble.

Can somebody talk me out of this, re steer me or confirm my thoughts. My 75xt does the work I need it to but now I am looking for a nice backup.

Not sure if this would be better in the skid steer forum? I think we need a spot just for ctls.

Amsteel rope

We are a small family logging operation and do mostly ground based logging with a JD Loader and TJ Skidder. We also have a Koller 501 yarder that we stand up when needed to do steeper ground. My question is how many outfits are using the Amsteel Blue rope for rigging lift trees and intermediate supports? I have read some of the information on the web put out by Oregon State Univ. on its use in logging operations, but wanted to hear from those that are currently using it. This looks like a very nice alternative to conventional steel guy lines and straps, especially with a small rigging crew. Thank you.

JD 755 crawler loader fluid questions

Hello all-

Just bought a JD 755 crawler loader. Need to know before running it hard what fluids to put where- other than the obvious diesel fuel in fuel tank and antifreeze in radiator. What should I be using in transmission? There are 2 tanks on back of machine. Are they for final drives and should I use hydraulic fluid or heavy gear lube?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone has manual for this crawler I have a couple of other questions as well, about filter location

Hitachi EX200-3 weird tracking fault

Got another wee intermittent fault on my '96 dash 3 ex200 which I would be grateful for any advice on;

The machine tracks along perfect from cold start up and under light operating conditions, each of the 3 tracking speeds function correctly, tracks run at same speed, tracking power is normal etc - all good. However, when digging/working hard and the hydraulic oil gets really hot, and you go to re-position the machine, sometimes the tracking goes dead slow, ie slower than the tortoise speed. Pulling the boom up simultaneously, or another arm function, tends to cure the fault, ie she will be tracking dead slow, you boom up, and suddenly she's off again at normal speed. Both tracks are affected identically, it occurs irrespective of which speed mode is set, and she tracks straight and true whilst affected and otherwise. The oil cooler is newish and the oil doesn't seem to be getting too hot. Someone suggested the oil might be bypassing a bad seal in the rotary manifold (or it could have a crack) once really hot and returning to tank, because this is one of the only elements of the two track systems which is common to both sides?

Any and all bright ideas would be very welcome indeed, cheers in advance.

Nb, you can also buy her if you like!

Laser Purchase Help

I've had an old David White for a long time, but mainly used it back when I had a concrete company. It's history now for reasons I'd like to avoid lest my blood pressure rise.

With this new business I do a lot of gravel roads and seat-of-the-pants rural grading jobs. I'm also starting to get a lot more long drainage swales. I'd like to get a receiver mast setup on my tractor's box blade for swales and possibly a removable mast for my ctl's bucket so I can check grade as I go. I don't know whether I'll need dual slope at this time, but for sure I need to be able to set up a single slope. I don't want to break the bank either.

I've been looking at a Spectra LL300 package that comes with their CR600 magnetic and rod mounts. The other one is the Topcon RL H4C. The Topcon setup doesn't include a magnetic receiver, so that would have to be purchased as well. The Topcon does look more rugged and has a better warranty.

Any experience with either setup, or is there another brand that I should be looking at?

Cat 416c Backhoe Loader. Where to get front bucket cutting edge?

Buy from dealer? Aftermarket?

Edge is getting worn down almost to the bucket.

What is on there is two pieces, bolted on. I don't know if two piece is OEM or aftermarket.

I looked around on the net a little bit and it looks like two piece might be standard.

The couple of places that I saw were selling them as SINGLE pieces - have to buy two.

Why would anyone ever want to replace just one?

I think that the cutting edge has been turned around, but suddenly right now I am not remembering if that was this machine or something else...

Is that normal to turn it around and use the other edge or does it need the extra support or something?

The top ends of the bolts and the nuts are worn and dinged a bunch.

I expect it will be just easier to torch the nut off and put in new ones instead of trying to twist them off.

Are the bolts anything special - Hard or not so hard?

If I do find out that I can turn the cutting edge around, should I put in grade 8 bolts or are they brittle and I should use grade 5?

Gehl 5635 out of fuel?

I thought my son ran our diesel out of fuel, so he put some in it, and I tried to bleed the lines, but no fuel comes out of the injector pumps to go to the injectors. Clark 175B Brake Issues

Hello forum, I am currently trying to get the seized brakes working on a Clark 175B wheel loader which have not been working for a number of years. Before I take the wheels off and rebuild the seized brake callipers, I am working through the air and hydraulic system which also ha been disconnected at the compressor. We went out this weekend and started on the repair of the seized brakes by removing the wet tank, the emergency tanks, the quick release valves, the foot control valves, the power clusters, the check valve and associated hoses. During the this removal, black oil was found in some of the pipework and fittings. Do any readers know where this oil may have come from?.

Two problems with my cat 320c machine. Need advice from professionals

my machine is having two main problems. Running very warm sometimes......oddly...the belt is only 3 months old and it already has a slice in the middle.....I've adjusted it normally.....and I suspect it's the water pump bearing locking down sporadically cause I've changed the coolant, thermostat, blown out dusty radiator with air compressor. It just happens sometimes....not all the time.

I'm thinking the water pump is locking up and the belt is slicing across the pulley?

I have a new water pump ready to stick on it.....and it uses a flat o-ring gasket and cat left the damn gasket out of the box! Machine has 5000 gentle hours. We bought it new.

On the the next issue..... The dang thing is losing it's prime in the fuel system. Started spluttering sometimes. Then got worse. Changed fuel filter. Was hard to use the hand pump to prime filter with bleeder air screw. Ran good...then spluttered. Then will die when using machine under load. Prime with hand pump again. Then runs good a second...then splutters and dies.

So, the gauge shows half a tank of fuel.

I stuck a steel brake line down in the tank to confirm depth of fuel. Gauge is accurate.

I opened that tank drain valve on the bottom of fuel tank and nothing drains out! Odd. Shouldn't this be used as a water drain? Fuel drain?

There are two petcocks. One for closing off the fuel line to engine. One for draining off water from bottom of tank.

The fuel tank drain petcock doesn't drain. Odd. Must be stopped up?

So I decided to pull the rubber fuel line that runs to engine before darkness fell upon me on Saturday night. Rubber line must be glued to the nipple yet needs a hose clamp to retain tightness.

I had planned to blow air throughout the fuel line.

Shouldn't this machine have a primary fuel filter like the glass type that precedes the canister type? But where?

Is the fuel pump mounted on the side of the injector pump? That's the only place I can figure that it is right? Do they commonly fail @5000 hours? It must suction instead of push fuel from tank.

Part number and price? Easy to replace?

So one more thing....at dark....I used the long brake line to reach down in tank to scratch around in the bottom of the tank thinking there might be a screen or something that catches rust. I did feel something that felt "grated". Cranked up machine to move it to a better location for refueling Monday. Machine ran fine all the sudden.

So for Monday morning....I'm in a rush to get this machine running. Would put air pressure on the fuel line to blow out some trash or rust? Order a new fuel pump? Will compressed air blow out some type of diaphragm in the fuel pump?

As far as overheating......my hunch says it's water pump. But, any other ideas? Any ideas that might link these two problems together?

Operator swears to me that he has watched the temp gauge and made sure he let's it idle down when getting two bars below the red zone. Engine sounds smooth. I would have replaced the water pump Friday but....cat didn't give me a new o-ring gasket for pump. They are closed on weekends!

I would really appreciate some thoughts on my problem from other experienced cat320c owners. I hope you can understand my rambling description on here.

Thanks to all.....

Parked the old girl (Cat 3066 engine) at idle for 5 minutes to trim some trees, hopped back in just as the oil light and klaxon came on. shut her down pronto. checked oil, fine. tried to get a pressure tester but its a holiday weekend here. removed oil pressure relief plug and spring, bits of something soft in it, not a great volume but she's not clean. two wear marks on side of spring, very new to this so just feeling my way thru it. Could the relief spring be jamming up inside the tube it sits in and stopping oil pressure rising? Is there a way to test the spring, does it need to be a certain length or what. Thanks for listening.

Questions on 931b brake adjustment?

There's good news and bad news but hopefully the bad news isn't that bad. I followed Bob/Ont's advice on adjusting the brakes on my 931B. On the left side I shortened the brake rod quite a bit to get the pin in with the brake band tight. Then I turned the brake band adjuster out 4 turns to get about 3 3/8" pedal travel measuring from the firewall to the lever. Then I went to do the same on the right side and had to extend the brake rod to get the pin in. I thought something was really messed up with the linkage under the dash(they weren't the same) but then noticed the lever on the clutch cover where the brake rod goes was quite a bit further back than on the left side. I loosened the brake band about the same as other side and have close to the same pedal travel. It was kind of cold but I hooked up the aux. hoses for the backhoe and filled the hyd. tank. I started it up to see how everything worked. It's like a new machine and I didn't see any leaks. Steering clutches are working properly and the brakes need very light pressure to make it turn.

Here's the questions I have:

Does it matter if the linkage is different from one side to the other but the pedal travel/free play on the brake band is approx. the same?

I'm not sure how tight the springs pushing on the brake adjusters are. They put new ones in with the new brake pins except gave them to me after I had already taken the bands to get relined so there was no way to rivet them on. Are the brake adjusters known to vibrate out of position? If they are, I was thinking of something simple to stop them from turning like maybe gluing a piece of foam rubber on the cover plate to put some pressure on them and still allow them to move a little when the brakes are applied? Any other simple ideas to keep the brake adjusters from turning?

Almost dreading this already. JD 310E. Several problems

My neighbor has a JD 310E. I'm pretty sure the hydraulic pump is operating at 50% or less, so it's definitely week. But the biggest concern is the transmission. You can put it in Forward and it may do nothing, it may surge slightly, or it may pull off normal. Reverse is same way. All gears. Sometimes driving it will quit pulling. Just this past week it started making a clicking/grinding noise. It may pull to start with, then quit pulling and make the noise that sounds like an impact wrench. I would think transmission fluid is low, but someone added about 3 quarts to it and it didn't improve. Sometimes when it's suppose to be moving but isn't, with it still revved it may start pulling again by itself. I've tried using the clutches, switching direction of travel, engage and release parking brake, yet nothing seems directly related. It just seems to pull at random. Electrical issue maybe? I'll definitely check the fluid level but what else would cause this?

So a week backhoe that actually moves would be a huge plus right now. I was in a low spot today and only after pulling forward 2', rolling backwards 2' about 418 times it finally made it's way completely out of the low spot. I decided to leave the backhoe alone while I was still in a good mood.

1967 580CK Brake cross shaft bent - how to remove

samedi 25 octobre 2014

Hi, this is my first post to this forum. I apologize if this subject is already covered, but I was not able to find it on a search.

I recently bought a Case 580CK loader/backhoe. The person who sold it to me said it was a 1968, but based on the serial number I believe it is a 1967. It's diesel. He freely admitted that the brakes did not work and that he just stopped using the bucked and or the backhoe. I prefer to be able to use brakes so I want to repair them. The entire system was locked up, even the pedals would not move. After some work, I have manged to disassemble all of the linkages as well as the parking brake. I have not yet busted in to the brakes themselves because one thing I discovered was that the SHAFT - cross, lower brake lever (P/N G10708) was bent between the R.H. lever and the L.H. lever on the R.H. end of the shaft (looking forward). I need to remove the cross shaft, but it appears that I will not be able to do so without removing what appears to be the Subframe for the loader. Is this true? If so, are there some instructions on doing this removal anywhere on this forum? The repair manual does not address removal of the cross shaft (at least that I have found).

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Backhoe shopping

Hello all,

I have started window shopping for a backhoe. I probably won't buy one until next year, but I am trying to decide what I want. I have never owned one before, and honestly don't really have much experience with them. I originally was thinking about a mini trackhoe, but have decided a TLB would be more practical for me, and a lot easier to scoot around from place to place. I am looking for something to do basic land maintenance, maybe the odd hire job here and there and maybe push some snow with in the winter.

I would like to stick with Deere or Cat, but I know Case made some decent hoes too.

A few basic things I am looking for imput on -

How much do I want an extendable stick? I feel like like this is a weak point and heavy maintenance point? Those of you who have run both, would you be without that extra few feet of reach/depth? I also want a thumb and the way some sticks telescope makes putting one on look rather difficult if not impossble.

On the subject of thumbs, do most hoes have provsions to add aux. hydralics on the backhoe? Or is this something that I better make sure I find before I buy one?

What is "a lot" of hours on a hoe? Your basic passenger car is pretty shot at 200k - whats that translate to in backhoe hours? I know all applications are different, but whats a decent rule of thumb?

Do most newish machines have a differential lock? Or is this something else I need to look for?

I will probably think of more things to bounce off you all as time passes, but if anyone has thoughts, comments or reccomendations, I would love to hear them.

-Andy

John Deere 648H fuel pressure problem

Hi,

We keep getting a high fuel pressure warning light on our 2012 JD 648H skidder. We've changed all fuel filters, and made sure all the lines and connections are clear of obstructions. Any suggestions about what else to check before we call a tech out for a service call?

1988 cat 426 overheating

I just replaced the water pump, new belt, new thermostat and complete coolant change in my cat backhoe today. Ran it for 2 hours and it started overheating again over 220 degrees. I did NOT put the thermostat in wrong, but what i cant figure is how I can not see water moving through the radiator with a brand new CAT waterpump. Anyone heard of any internal restriction issues with this perkins motor? All the hoses are good and machine though old barely has 7000 hours. Any help would be appreciated. I did do a pressure test on radiator and no leak down detected. I am just plain stuck.:(

anyone using Equipment 360??

My company has recently decided that they want to keep better track of repairs and failures on the equipment and has purchased this software Equipment 360. I have not used it yet myself and the rest of the mechanics are supposed to be getting trained on this stuff next week. Im just wondering if anyone else is using it and what you think of it. From what i have seen so far it looks like a bunch of extra work on the computer every time i visit a piece of equipment.

Kubota KX41-2

Hi guys

I am new to the forum and need some advice

I recently bought a Kubota kx41-2 which was working fine and had loads of power

To load the machine onto the trailer I climbed a steep incline towards the road and it lost power to the right track

I managed to get it loaded but since have discovered it has no power to anything on the right hand stick

The left hand stick and track has plenty power

It has no leaks and full tank of oil

Can someone point me in the right direction

John

The a/c compressor is not turning on. The fuse was melted so i repaired that. I checked voltage a compressor with it unplugged. I only have 8 volts. I checked voltage leaving a/c relay i have 14 volts there( have engine running when i am checking these readings.) i found a plug behind the battery that was melted so i cut the plug out and spliced wires together. I also only have 8 volts at this plug for a/c. The wire leaving the a/c relay is number 1000-1. Where does this wire go to from relay? It is not one that i have at plug behind battery. I have jumpered low pressure switch that didnt make a difference. Any help would be appreciated.

Winch guys Allied and Pa56 good and bad

Looking at these two brands of winchs and mounting it on D6R,H.Both are late model winchs. What size cable and how long can you use in one.Thinking 3/4 to 7/8 is max i will need for what i want to do.Can you get 100+ ft on one.More would be better for me.

I see the spec for the pa56 was 60,000 pound pull. Also low speed is mentioned. So how many feet per minute will it move at max pull.

Is one or the other faster then the other.I see the pa56 is electric operated.Allied looked to be cables.

Injector pump removal

I cannot get the injector pump of a Case 530 CK. I slide it back as far as it will go, but is stopped by a fuel filter bracket while still on the shaft in the front. The shaft should not come out with the pump, correct? I also noticed that pushing the shaft back toward the front of the tractor caused it to come back like it is pressing a spring or something. I'm LOST!!

Differences in John Deere 310E, 310SE, and 310SG

Morning all! There is some work being done around the house. The men started with a 310SG until a gear stripped out. Someone said this is a problem with the G, SG's. Is it really, or just something these guys were saying?

They switched to a 310SE. I was telling them that my friends 310E hydraulic pump is going out. They said they knew of 2 or 3 others with bad pumps and all were 310E's. I figured that was just coincidence, but I looked online and the E does use a different pump than the SE. Are the 310E's notorious for pumps going out?

I would like to purchase a TLB and would consider the newer G or SG better than the E, SE. Any one in particular more reliable than the others?

THANKS!!!

How to remove a Lucas Girling parking brake can with broken caging bolts? 1995 F700

I was able to score two brand new (not rebuilds) Euclid # E-6120 parking brake can assemblies on E-Bay for a very, very reasonable price. The reason I bought these is that a few weeks ago when I went to cage my right side parking brake spring there was no preload/resistance when turning the bolt out. So I tried the left can to compare as I would think if you are caging/compressing a spring you should have some tension. The left can was the same way, no resistance. So now I am thinking that sometime during the life of this truck (1995 Ford F700 dump 23,000 original miles.....I bought it with 19,000) someone must have caged the spring cans with an impact gun and broke the pin/attachment method that holds the caging bolts to their inner pistons? My parking brakes work fine but I was trying to see if the right side was causing my slight brake drag. The new cans have plenty of spring preload when turing the caging bolt in or out.

Now here is my question......how do I remove the parking brake cans from the backing plates if I cannot cage the springs? I'll end up eating the things if I back it out with that spring preload not bottled up!

Thanks in advance for all your help-

Bobcat T300 drive pump issue.

vendredi 24 octobre 2014

Had an odd call today. There is a company in this area that buys and sell skid steers. They asked me to come look at one that was giving them fits. As they started it as soon as it had charge pressure it would try to drive the left track forward and would kill the engine before it could fully start.

This machine had the electrical hand controls. It had sd pumps on it. The left controller was not plugged in. Machine was showing no codes. I plugged the controller in and got no results. I could unplug both handles and get codes for them but still had drive forward left side. The controller mounted on top of the pump has been replaced. It had a sd sticker on it. But the side plugs and caps had wrench markings on them and have been removed many times.

The owner of said machine stated this is what it was doing when he bought it. The last machine he had brought to bobcat got a 14k estimate to repair and 3k just to bolt it back together. He asked me how to make the engine be able to actually start so people would know atleast the engine was good. Got out a pocket knife and had her purring like a kitten in seconds. He smiled and said thanks. Had the auction contract filled out before I even got off the premises.

So what do y'all think, was it a pump issue or just the controller?

Attempting to set timing on Case 530

Short and simple- I have had the injector pump off in the past and don't recall having trouble. Now I can't even get it off. It is still hung up on the shaft in the front and I can't move it back any farther b/c of fuel filter housing. Ideas?

Willie and crewchief, bobtach question

I'm looking at an 01 883 bobcat tomorrow morning. 2900 hours, runs and drives good. Hydraulics seem to work fine and are strong. it has a bobtach that is not working. Guy thinks its the switch but I've also read a failing hydraulic pump will get the spool contaminated to the point where it binds. Anything I should check on this to make sure I'm not buying something with a failing pump? Thank you.

955K shifter linkage questions

Hi everyone. I am looking at a 955K tomorrow. I've never owned one but use to drive my dads and have been doing a lot of reading on them. So I am a virgin when it comes to these machines. The one I am looking at as some issues as might be expected. The guy is telling me it has about 50-60% on the pins, rollers and sprockets. How can I tell how much life is left in them? Also, he says the shifting linkage is very sloppy and it is quirky to get into reverse. He also says it does not go into 2nd or 3rd and believes it is due to the sloppy linkage. Evidently, it used to be used at a dirt quarry. Can anyone help with some advice?

JCB Sitemaster Backhoe suddenly stopped going in reverse

Hi,

I have an 1990 JCB Sitemaster 4wd with a Syncro Shuttle transmission. The other day I was backing up a small hill when it seemed to drop out of gear. I put it in forward and it works fine. No reverse.

Here is what I have tried so far:

Removed the F/R solenoid valve. When switched from foreward to reverse I can see the valve shaft moving back and forth. I dissasembled the coils from the valve body and reversed them and they still actuate the valve shaft. The coils ohm out the same (~5homs) and both draw the same amperage. I reassembled and still no joy.

Recently (a week before this happened) the hose to the cooler popped off and drained a couple of gallons of fluid. I topped it up and replaced the filter. I have not checked the screen at the bottom of the sump yet.

Any ideas?

A couple of simple questions:

What fluid is equivalent to JCB brake fluid?

Thanks,

Chris

Learning the trade

Hey everyone,

I have yet some more questions about getting behind some equipment. I went to pretty much every dirt business I could find to try and get a job as an operator with no luck. Most told me no since I have no experience, the rest wanted to pay me $10 an hour which I can't do. So I took a job driving a dump truck for a local dirt contractor. Unfortunately he only delivers dirt, he does have equipment but most of the Mexicans run it except the big dozers and trackhoes. I really enjoy the job but going to these job sites and seeing them guys running that big equipment is making the itch even worse. So I did a little research and found out about the union. It's local 406 if anyone has info on it. I called the training center which is about 250 miles from me and they said class meets twice a month I think she said. Would this be a good idea to get my foot in the door? One thing that concerns me is 406 covers LA, MS and ARK I believe. Does that usually mean you have to travel for work? I'm just not willing to leave my family for weeks at a time. Any info would be great, thanks.

Broke my cat 941 loader

OK my story starts like this. This summer i had to tare down my track loader for the torque converter seal. The seal was leaking pretty good. I noticed while i was taking the flexible drive coupling off to get at the seal, that they were starting to get dry rotted. I think my biggest mistake was i replaced the Joints with after market ones and not factory cat parts. well it ended up costing me.lol I was using the loader tonight before i had it hauled over to my girlfriends house. the old loader was just purring along pushing brush tress etc, when all of a sudden i hear a knocking noise. I am thinking great the engine is knocking etc. It was getting dark on me and i just happened to look down by my feet and saw sparks flying. also it got to the point that the loader did not want to pull its self. So i go get my truck and pull it back to the drive way. I pull the side panels off and found out all for joints P/N 5S7893 are torn in two. No wonder it quit pulling. I guess that's what i get for buying cheep after market crap. luckily it didn't tare anything up i just have to drop the belly pan and replace the joints. I should of just sent them back and got the factory cat one,s. I didn't like the way the after market ones were built, the bolts holes were not as deep as the factory ones i took off and the rubber seemed a lot softer to me. Now i might of caused the problem my self. I had to run a tap in all the bolt holes to get the rubber out of them and make them deeper so the bolts that worked on the factory mounts would bolt all the way down with the new mounts. So the new ones didnt last 20 hours, but the factory ones lasted over 8 years. So what do you guys think? any body else run into a problem like this? thanks Bobby Miller
