25-30 year old trucks, why one over another?

I'm hoping to gain some knowledge/insight about this vintage of trucks from the guys who drove them. I didn't grow up around trucking, or the truck industry. All of my experience has come from the dairy farm where we haul grain, forage and have a dump truck for farm related projects.
