Cat 252b drive motor fail

In right side drive motor started making noise. Took it out, and to mechanics. Took apart and rebuilding now it. One guy recomends to remove other drive motor and tandem pump and inspect ir for a wear, other says dont do it. How is better to do? Have only a bit less power on that side at idle rpm, everything else was good.
