Caterpillar VIMS pc

Is anyone on here pretty smart with computers? I've a few things I want to check out on a 785 that I need VIMS for... on this particular unit the monitor is half screwed up too!
I've got a download of vims but since installation all I get is a print saying unable to connect to VIMS database.
Any ideas?
