Jd 690 d swing problems

I have a.l690 d 1989.that has developed a swing issue. It frequently will not swing just grind but change direction and it will work but not for long. I have tried pushing on the boom with a loader tractor and it seems solid won't swing.
Not sure where to start on this project.
