IH 4700 fuel tank

My 97 International 4700 needs either a new fuel tank or the original one welded up. Figuring its a steel tank and diesel, I could weld it, because it shouldn't blow up from doing so. Its the D style tank and it has a very slow seep leak under the step area.

A new aluminum tank is around $600, but might be able to cut the step off and weld up the holes for less. Not against getting a new one, but also found the same tank at another location for over $1000. Never bought a tang...
