Needing to replace however priced through komatsu and they only sell the complete assy for $750 when all that's needed is the electric motor. Ive tried aftermarket but it will not easily match to OEM housing. Any options?

I have a more of a beginner mechanic question, I have a phase 3 580k thats new to me, and by new I mean I bought it, worked it for 2 days and almost every cylinder on the machine blew out under load and other issues that caused it to be in the shop for 4 months as of now. On my Thomas Pro Tough 1700 skid steer the loader arms will go up, but not down. The cable from the foot pedal is operational. I then checked the solenoid that locks out the spool and it works. I re-greased the detent assembly thinking it was hanging up.
Nothing worked so I took the spool out of the valve body. I had to pry it up with a board to get it unstuck. It seems like hydraulic pressure was keeping it frozen. I took it out expecting it to be galled or damaged, but it looks like new...

So we're working on a d9h that had a steering clutch non release issue. What had happened was the outer hub walked loose and the nut and the lock bold ended up in the basket. When the clutch was applied it caused the clutch to smash and jam.
The last owner pulled the outer shaft and fixed and pressed a new hub on. They changed the piston seals but didn't do the swivel seals behind the hub.

Looked at this machine today: 555D with slow hydraulics. Fluid is full on both sticks. Bucket and hoe are jerky and slow. Filters or strainer. Can not read much of the data tag the parts guy wanted. Anybody have any input on that? Filter and strainer locations? Will get a tire back on it and move it to better working ground tomorrow. Any experienced input will be appreciated.

Our company just purchased this crane and the first job we are at the boom has a malfunction. I was telescoping it out and the cylinder had a error. I had to put it in manual mode to scope it back in. After it was scoped in I tried to scope it back out normally and on the last boom section the cylinder isn't retracting enough to latch correctly. It is only going to 10.000 instead of 1.000 which is the correct number. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

I just got a mailer from United Rentals. They are offering a Lull Forklift Certification class, $250 per person. In the letter it states that "as of 12/1/99 Operators must be OSHA compliant, it's the law" Can anyone tell me what this means? I know lots of Lull operators that have not had any formal training classes or certifications. What does it mean to be OSHA compliant? I am in CT btw, which I know has some different laws regarding equipment operation, etc. vs. states like MA.

im puzzled got a major problem,i just overhauled a cat cs 533 e engine 3054(perkins by the way)
put in new pistons,bearing etc,after some good hours of running in went for a test full throttle with vibration on and it starts missing about 20 mins later.
finally opened the valve cover and found a push rod had popped out because an inlet valve number one had siezed.

putting in a new valve and all the valve guides although they are fine.

well whats the good and bad. This will be my first excavator, it is very reasonably priced. Mainly just be doing house demos, loading clay and doing some light digging (basements ect.) Any pros and cons would be a plus, i have looked it over and it looks pretty clean, no cracks or welds, undercarriage decent but will need drive sprockets pretty quick and tracks are about out of adjustment and bucket will not curl but does dump which just started happening so im guessing just stuck hyd spool...

I thought about some sealer but it has a new rad and heater core. Has any one ever had a problem with stop leak? I have used bars before and it worked but i didnt care alot about the future of the vehical.

If i hold the key in start position is stays running until i let off, then dies right away.

21z 963. New engine. Machine sat for 3 years wile dead beat mechanic installed new engine. I changed trans filter and oil. Occasionally the travel speed will go down to 50% or so. If I idle down and idle back up it will go back to normal for awhile, then back into slow mode. Tried changing filter again, no change. It is a napa filter. Got a filter from cat, but have not tried yet. Any ideas?

Took apart the hydraulic side of the final drive on my mini excavator to examine a cracking noise. The noise was likely coming from the main bearing side. Anyhow, everything went back as it came apart but the drive does not turn now - it did beforehand. Is there a priming mechanism , presumably they dont air lock? Anyone know any likely reasons why it won't turn on reassembly?

Buddy was using my loader and was trying to dig some large rocks out. Now the lower lip has been torn. Also has some cracks along the back cutting edge. Took it to a welding place which seem to have trouble coming up with a price to fix. Asked what was the max, and he even had trouble with that.

Is any one else having a hard time finding CDL Drivers or Experienced equipment operators? This year the pool of talent seems to be getting smaller, with many old timers retiring, there do not seem to be many young guys or girls getting into the industry.

Is this an industry wide problem or is it just in New England?

I'm looking on buying a used 953, C-series or older. Is there anything special to look after? What are the typical problems and what is expensive to replace (besides UC).
I saw a 953C that is really cheap, but with UC quite totally toasted and almost 20000hours on the meter. I have a late 90s 753, put a new ignition in it. Now the bucket tilted all the way out and cylinder will not come back in , and arms will lift but to lower pedal has to be pushed to float position. lights are all on except seat light is blinking? any ideas?

In order to reduce our outside costs and streamline our productivity I am considering putting a waratah 624 on a John Deere 959k buncher. We would like to put the buncher head back on when it is needed to cut a unit and then put the processing head back on to process under the yarder. What all would need to be done aside from the obvious hanging brackets and piping on the Boom?

2003 Case 40XT with 940 hours. Bought used and have put 60 hours on it with little trouble. Operated perfect and smooth when parked 6 weeks ago and now the right joystick for forward and reverse has a catch or is sticky. OK, my 1150 loader won't lift a bucket of dirt. In fact it will barely lift the weight of the loader. Now this happened pretty much all at once. I was working a big pile of dirt that I had heaped up with the Kobelco pulling one load at a time and using it to track in the dam of a new pond. I pull into the pile low gear and raise and curl, just like a thousand other times, but this time, with a bull bucket, the thing won't lift anything!

I'm looking at a used Volvo A40 2000 year model I believe and the battery voltage light is on and the stop light is flashing on the dash is these correlated with each other? The voltage at alternator and the batteries is 27 volts. So what sets the stop light off? The digital display up by the head liner don't work would that tell me what the problem is?

Screw type compressor problem

So I found myself in a little over my head with this one. I’ve got a Sullivan palatek screw type compressor. One day while it was running it decided to puke out a bunch of atf through compressor intake. I’m not familiar with this piece of equipment at all. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this? No throttle response on case cx160

I have no response from the throttle dial in cab. The screen is showing electrical problem. This was after I welded a crack in the the bell housing where the pump attaches to it. I small fire develop in the corner below the throttle motor and it got the throttle motor harness plug hot and melted insulation on 5 or 6 wires. Bought a backhoe couple weeks ago. It's a 1984 555A with 4n1 loader bucket, 15ft extendable, 24" heavy duty hoe bucket. Tach says 5242 hrs but if it's accurate they have been extremely hard hours.

The extendable dipper has been broken at the elbow joint. The repair appears rather old with no reoccurring cracks/breaks.

The hoe bucket has had cracks repaired. They too appear to be old and holding.

So I’m considering trading my 16 F350 single rear wheel in against a similar spec 16 F450. Both have the same mileage.
On paper the 450 is better as I’ll be paying less interest and get an extra year of warranty.

Recently snagged a D31A-17 at a local auction. Sadly I got it home and was only able to push over a few stumps before the transmission lost all movement forward and reverse. Thanks to the guys here I was able to see the problem was most likely the strainer plugged so I dumped the fluid and removed strainer and it was just absolutely full of metal. Hi, I don't have my manuals anymore. What oil, and filter should I be using? What is the capacity and how often should it be changed? Thank You

I recently bought a 99 hyundai 210 lc-3 which operates decently but the mode selection was kind of funky. I could only select H or F( supposed to default on S) .Initial testing revealed the cluster was faulty. The rest of the monitor functions and display works OK.
So i decided to purchase a new monitor from China cause they are half price of dealer price.

Have owned for a while with minimum probs. regular services etc.
Lately ;
After 1/2 hours work or so goes into limp and shows E20 and E21 on ECU
Won't stop on the key .
With engine stopped and key on , "FC" light flashes continuously .
If left overnight the machine starts and runs perfect again.

we have a Timberjack 608 track feller buncher, which I could of posted this in the forestry section but a feller bunch has the same operation as an excavator, from time to time the main boom cylinder will not raise. It will lower but pulling on the joystick it will not raise the boom then in 10 seconds or sometimes longer holding on the joystick it will finally raise & then be fine for 15-20 minutes & then do it again. Does anyone know what the oil capacity is on a D333 Caterpillar engine? I read that it is 7 Gal. in manual. That seems too be to much considering I put 6 Gal in to start and it was about a 1/4" below full mark running at low idle. Then added 1/2 Gal to bring it up to 6 1/2 Gal and its a tad over full mark now. Also anyone that has experience with this engine, what type of engine oil are you using? I am having a problem with our Z60/34 serial: 7890

The problem started with the fact that when the machine moves forward the wheels spontaneously turn left.

I changed the drive-steer joystick and VALVE,SOLENOID 3 POS,4 WAY (p/n 111703). The joystick was calibrated after change, but after a short time the error 61-17 occurred (steer joystick not calibrated). I calibrated the joystick again and again. Then there is an error 61-16 (steer joystick value at 0V).

I request your help regarding the optimization of preventive maintenance on heavy equipment (dumper, dozer, loader etc).
I would to have a list of metrics or KPIs , ( like the schedule compliance for instance) to “measure” the preventive maintenance. I have a new to me case 480 c. I bought if from a younger man who got it from a grandfather passing, he new nothing about it, was just selling it. It starts right up, no smoke, good power and hydraulics work well. When I tested it, it drove forward and backwards fine. To get it to go in reverse, the column shifter, was hard to pull the shifter back. I get it home and now the column shifter will go forward and into neutral. It wont let the shifter be pulled back to reverse.

hi all have a basic question about chain strength that I'm unsure about.
Ok so from what I can understand about rope and pulleys (without being to scientific) if a rope is run around a pulley, it will effectively double the capacity or halve the load on each strand. A quick qoogle search suggests that the single strand is under friction/compression etc so doesn't take the full load. Probably not doing a very good job of explaining but I'm sure you'll know what I'm trying to say lol.

After rebuilding the governor section of my fuel pump, I've been unable to find the referenced "Fuel Setting Information" for my dozer. See several books of this nature on ebay but none seem to cover these machines. Only older obsolete models and 3306 engines used in trucks. Is there an actual publication that covers the D5Bs / 25X machines or some other source where the data can be found?

D5B Hydraulic Pump Rebuild

My hydraulic pump is leaking into the crankcase now that I've re-sealed the tank and return lines properly. I see in the CAT parts book that there are two lip seals that can be replaced, but there are no other parts shown for the pump, except for a "rebuild kit" PN: 9J765. I don't see how you could remove the old seals without splitting the pump apart. The pump body clearly needs to be resealed, but there are no gaskets / seals shown in the parts book.

I've seen people mention Shelter Logic but they don't seem too durable. I was looking up local companies and came across WeatherPort's portable garages. I guess I have to get a quote to get a price but before I do that anyone have any experience with them or any other suggestions?

it was driven by a ford 4 cylinder industrial gas motor.
it has perfectly clean oil in it and does rotate as it should when clutch is engaged .
vehicle had 900 hrs on working tach , which means this pump has way less actual pumping hrs on it !!!
im pretty positive this is medium pressure and huge volume.

tractor was rebuild apx 5000 hr agao new all new wire harness was done by cat dealer at that time remaned all ecms since that time cat has replaced 5 yes 5 engine ecm all have given different problems . have had 3 different techs work on it all cat field service . I feel we are fixing the problem but not the cause .told them Friday no more reman ecm . will try a new one next week . but feel we are missing something . any one had this problem

My parts book lists them as 8D18 however that number doesn't appear to be any good.

I'm just finishing up rebuilding the front axle on a case 580e (early design with 4 bolt kingpins)
After assembling left front hub with new bearings there is still some play between the hub and swivel housing not much but its there. Is there any way to adjust preload on the hub bearings? manual does not mention anything about setting axial preload other than tighten axle nut to 850ft pounds.

99 Peterbilt 379 worth (Insurance)

My brother in law (Bo) has 99 Pete, 6x4, heavy springs, C15 motor with sleeper and chrome every where. Has taken great care of the truck and had just had the motor rebuilt. Two weeks later some guy comes around the corner and hits him head on. Everybody is OK and the other driver even admitted to the cops that it was his fault.

Looking for some help.
Can anyone tell me how to reset the emergency stop switch?
It was pulled on acciedent.
It appears to go to fuel pump but I don't see any way to access it. Looks to be a simple fix it I couuld get to it.

Gooseneck coupler hitting slip tank

Recently put a slip tank in my 3500, and upon hooking up my gooseneck for the first time, I forgot to account for the bolts in the coupler, and there isn't enough clearance. Upon turning left with the trailer/truck at a difference in height the one bolt just catches the tank. Only took off some paint, but need to change something because i'm not ok with that.

As you can see in the picture there is some room there, but not much. Is there some easy way to put in shorter bolts? If I could get...

Finding qualified help

Is any one else having a hard time finding CDL Drivers or Experienced equipment operators? This year the pool of talent seems to be getting smaller, with many old timers retiring, there do not seem to be many young guys or girls getting into the industry.

Is this an industry wide problem or is it just in New England?

Got a job coming up that requires us to backfill 3' to 6' diameter holes, 50' deep, with sand.

Typically I would just use a loader bucket, scoop, dump and push the sand into the hole.
But considering we will be doing several holes a day, with LARGE quantities of sand, I want to optimize the process.

Is there a good loader bucket attachment with some sort of funnel that I can place directly over the hole so there is no spillage on the sides of the hole?

I have a 2011 257B3, everything works when the dummy/jumper plug for the front window is plugged in. Once I plug in the connector for the door, nothing works as if its not plugged in ( no hydraulics, wiper etc) no broken wires behind door cover, everything seems to be intact. I need to clear right of way through mesquite in West and north Texas. No huge trees mainly 10” or less but thick at times. No serious terrain or major dirt work involved. I have a New Zealand built track loader with a vickers TA1919V20r pump, the charge pump pressure is 190psi, when you go forward the pump starts to rock that badly that it seems that the motor and pump are going to break of the engine mounts, if you drop the revs it most time stops rocking. Change filter checked suction line, checked relief valve, cleaned hydraulic tanks and I can not find a strainer on suction line to charge pump. any ideas cheers mic
