Poclain sc150

Hi, having trouble with selector lever. Only works in first position. While waiting for seal to come for the swing motor I was working on the wiring, it started and pumped oil all over. Fixed seal filled oil, started up and that's when I noticed no action on other settings. Thought it was air, bled off what I thought would be the right lines...no luck. Anyone out there know what to do next?

Cat 268b loegering vts track system drive chain replace 1100 hours owner operator

Bought this machine new.
My father and I have mostly ran this machine.
I always make 3 point turns and hardly ever spin machine.

Drive chain suddenly snapped. I think it wasn't adjusted properly and it was rattling a little on the sprocket. I think it was a random snap.
Opened inspection cover and sprockets look good. But the rear drive chain snapped at the link.

So I ordered two drive chains from Cat. It's a diamond chain brand.
The thing is...with this loegering vts rack drive system...the front chain doesn't pull anything except it free floats in a hub that powers nothing. The front chain still looks new. So I think I need to replace the rear chains on both sides.

So I took off the track system. Down to the hubs just as if it had tires.

Pulled out old chain. Took hub loose but it doesn't pull out hole because sprocket on inside it bigger than hole.

Drained case.
Cleaned case.

Tried to put in new chain and it will NOT clear the sprocket at the back hub. The chain will not skip over the bottom because the sprocket clearance is too close to the bottom case!

Do I have to pull the sprocket off the hub internally? Then mock it all up and then bolt it back? How do I torque that but back?

Wow! Why design it so tight? Why not let it have a little more clearance? Any tips?

And when I put it all back together...what do I press against to adjust the hub and chain tension?

Thanks!

Jcb 520

Hello all. I was hoping to get an opinion on a 2004 JCB 520 that is located at a company where my friend works. They are planning on selling it due to them not using it that much anymore. It has under 2500 hours which my friend believes to be true. No hour meter was changed or disconnected while he's been there. It looks to be in good condition with not a whole lot of abuse.

Is this a year I should avoid? Also my use will be primarily around a warehouse and on cement/asphalt.

JD 310C - Pressure Relief Valve Leak on Hydro Pump

Gentlemen...I noticed the pressure relief valve leaking a decent amount of fluid under load, this valve is located in the front section of my main hydro pump under the rad/oil cooler. I went to my trusty repair manual but couldn't find much information (TM1420). The parts manual shows an O ring between the valve and the pump so that's my first check (keeping fingers crossed). My question is, can this valve just be unscrewed and checked? is it that simple? I know the valve has a pressure adjustment on it (springs/seats/pins) which I don't want to mess with.
Any help here would be appreciated, I know this valve is designed to let out pressure when it gets to high so hopefully I'm not missing the big picture. Other then several cylinder seals that could use replacing the hydraulics work fine. Hmmmm....Could air be entering the system through those bad cylinder seals causing a pressure build up? hence the pressure relief vale opens to release air/oil?
Any insight for this novice is greatly appreciated

Using rear backhoe tires with differently worn treads - is it a mistake??

I punctured my tire this weekend on my case580k back tire (17.5 x 24). The tire shop said it couldn't be repaired and that I'd need a new one. They also said that it would not be advisable to run the machine with one new tire and one old tire because the new tire would grip much better and could ruin the differential/gear box. Is this true? Or are they just trying to get me to buy 2 new tires ($599 CAD each!!!!)

Thanks for any advice or insight. I'm in the process of trying to find a used tire but they seem hard to come by....

Confused 941B Serial Number

Today I am taking delivery of a 1979 941B.

The original tag on the machine says 941B however the serial number is 70H 5540.

When I look up the serial numbers on ironrecord.com the 941B models are start with 80H.

When I look up 70H it is for standard 941 only...

So what did I just buy?? I sure hope it is a B because the weight difference alone looks to be 9000 lb. Name: img.jpg Views: 0 Size: 31.9 KBName: img.jpg Views: 0 Size: 31.9 KB

Need advice on a good box truck

Hey all,

Im going to be moving my family across the country and am weighing renting a truck vs buying one. Im currently comparing a cummins powered IH4900 and a cat powered freightliner fl70 for sale. The 26' IH 4900 has ?? miles but they are asking $7k and the 24' freightliner has 300k miles and they want $12k. both are manual.
Basically, what price would you pay for the 4900 (give me a mileage with your price) and at what mileage threshold do you consider this truck unreliable to drive cross country fully loaded, pulling a vehicle behind. And the same question applies to the freightliner. Ill update as I have more info.
OR do I just rent a penske truck...

Thank you.

Two drowned in Construction accident.

Two construction workers lose their lives by drowning.

Folks just posting this for you to read, debate the right and wrongs and such.

Name: The-scene-near-Thomond-Bridge-in-Limerick.jpg Views: 15 Size: 55.6 KB

Two workers died tragically on Saturday following a catastrophic disaster on the River Shannon.

Another man miraculously managed to swim to safety and was taken to University Hospital Limerick following the accident.

The men were carrying out structural works to Thomond Bridge in Limerick City when a cable attached to a crane holding a cage they were standing in snapped.

The cage was quickly released from the crane and crashed into the river, trapping the men under the surface.

Tom Cusack, 33, who is a volunteer with Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Service, said: “We were alerted by the Coast Guard that there were three people in the water near Thomond Bridge.

“We were heading up towards the bridge when we spotted a man floating in the water with
his life jacket inflated.

“He told us he had managed to free himself from the cage, but there were two of his colleagues trapped in the cage under water.”

“We put him into the boat and we sped up to the bridge. When we arrived at the bridge the cage was submerged.

“We could see the two casualties clearly. They were submerged about two feet under the surface. The casualties were unresponsive.

“It was very unfortunate for those two men who lost their lives.”

A diver, who recovered one of the two deceased, said the life jackets the men were wearing had been clipped on to the cage and trapped them inside.

The rescuer, who did not want to be identified, said: “Their life jackets drowned them essentially. The very minute the life jackets hit the water they inflated.

“The lads were working out of a cage which was suspended out over the bridge. The cable snapped and catapulted the cage into the water.

“One man managed to clip off his safety jacket. The other two were trapped under the water.

“I cut one free and a driver with the fire service cut the other one free.

“We brought them to the surface and performed CPR at the scene because they went into cardiac arrest.

“Unfortunately, when the cage went into the water, the life jackets inflated and they were both brought to within two feet of the surface, but their lifejackets were clipped into the cage. They were short by just two feet. It’s terrible.”

A third man who had been in the cage at the time managed to free himself and swim to safety.

The incident sparked a major emergency operation involving the Shannon-based Coast Guard Rescue helicopter, Limerick City Fire Service and the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Service.

A source said: “There were three men in a cage doing pointing work on the outside of Thomond Bridge. The cage snapped on a crane system and went into the water.

“They were all trapped in the cage under the water. One got free and was taken to hospital for observation. The other two men were not so fortunate.

“They were taken from the cage by divers from the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Service and the swift water rescue swimmers from Limerick Fire Service. They were unconscious.”

One of the two is understood to have suffered a cardiac arrest before being brought to hospital.

Despite valiant efforts by paramedics to resuscitate the men at the scene, and later again at University Hospital Limerick, the men were pronounced dead at hospital shortly before 5pm yesterday.

A source added: “It’s really shocking. It’s such an unusual thing to have happened.

“It’s incredibly sad. I can’t imagine what these men’s families are going to be feeling.”

According to a source the three men were wearing life jackets and fall-arresting safety harnesses generally used in line rescues or by anyone working from dangerous heights.Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority are to conduct investigations into the incident. Remedial works started on the bridge last Monday and were scheduled to last for 10 weeks.

The job was sub-contracted by Limerick City and County Council to an as yet unknown firm.

A local authority source said: “These men were contract staff. They were specialist workers.

“The two men who have died were still harnessed into the cage under the water, so it looks like they couldn’t get out. It’s horrific.”

The scene at Thomond Bridge in Limerick

The search operation, which turned into a recovery operation, took 15 minutes before volunteers with the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Service were stood down.

The accident caused shock in the city as the desperate attempts to save the men unfolded.

Mayor of Limerick city, Jerry O’Dea, offered his sympathies to the families of those who died in the tragedy.

He said: “It is a terrible incident. As mayor of the city, I must say this is the most horrific tragedy.

“These were men who were working on restoring a bridge which is the gateway into our city – a historic landmark – when they died.

“My heartfelt condolences go to those who are involved in this tragic incident.”

Local Sinn Fein councillor Maurice Quinlivan tweeted: “Terrible desperate news coming out of Limerick. Thoughts are with familes, friends, fellow workers and emergency services.”

Fine Gael councillor Michael Hourigan said the tragedy has put a “terrible cloud” over the whole community.

He told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “My deepest sympathies go the families of these two men. It’s terrible to think they died while doing a honest day of work.

“Incidents like this put a huge cloud over the whole community. It has an impact on everybody because it is so close to home.

“It is a terrible tragedy like this that brings home the danger of such work. This is a very sad incident for all those involved.”

Last night Limerick City and County Council released a statement.

It read: “It is with deep regret that Limerick City and County Council can confirm two employees of a firm contracted to undertake remedial works to Thomond Bridge in Limerick City have died in a workplace incident this afternoon.”

"CAV style" Ford tractor double-wide filter units...what?

So I ordered a few of these filter units to have on hand for projects like this since they were stupid-cheap (calling in it was $30 each with filters). The flip side now is there's no documentation anywhere to be found on them, including the USA distributor, who says the identical item was once sold as an OEM CAV filter unit...but CAV has long since given it up, and there's no trace of tech docs. They shrug their shoulders and say that the tractor guys must just drop them in place and make the same connections as they had before, and go on their way. In my case, I'm custom-installing, so I wanted info to verify the flow paths within.

In a nutshell: were these designed for some reason to filter in parallel, not series?

I'd assumed they were engineered to run as two filters in series when I saw the online front view, but on close examination once I had them in hand, it's clear they are NOT - the passages and the arrows on the four ports show that
1) the filters are plumbed in parallel, and
2) the ports are labeled as if intended for TWO inlets and TWO outlets (ports numbered 1-4, two in-arrows, two out-arrows.)
Photos illustrate:

Name: CAV style twin-head filter setup.JPG Views: 0 Size: 31.1 KB
Name: CAV top view.jpg Views: 0 Size: 38.8 KB

Even with the addition of an external crossover hose to join one outlet with the opposite side's inlet, the outlet/clean fuel would still be /shared/ (it flows through one long passage that joins both filters) so it still wouldn't operate as a "series" setup.

Any Ford tractor owners out there recognize these? Some reason they'd drop in to a Ford tractor and all of this would make sense? Wouldn't it be best to have the two filters work in series instead?

Notice there's only one glass bowl, and that's the only drainable fitting, too. I'm thinking I want to be able to drain both sides, whether parallel or series, so I will probably add a drain to the aluminum-bowl side, too. Especially if they were left as is (run in parallel) there seems to be no reason the aluminum-bowl side wouldn't pick up as much coalesced water as the glass side would.

Anyone got more insight into the design intent of this configuration?

Thanks - Dave

580SK Carraro Axle Pivot greaser mod !

dimanche 30 août 2015

Hi all,

As a fundamentally lazy person I loathe getting under my old CASE 580SK backhoe to keep that pivot pin on top of the Carraro axle in lube.

Unlike most on a Sunday (who would be fixing their pickup or street car) I decided to get the mod done and put the grease point out where it was easy to get at with some pressure line and nipple adaptors.

Parts cost about $40 plus an hour or so to fit.

I first thought that they (the nipple adaptors) could mount in the counterweight on the right hand side; Soon found that the cast steel is "harder than the hobs of...." so shifted to the radiator screen seal panel above the counterweight instead.

Seems to work ok so far; Only point to my machine is that it must be lifted to allow grease in, maybe the pin is fitted upside down and seals with load on it; Oh and yes I use a lot of the stuff, trying to lube my machine to last a little longer I guess !

How to Adjust Valves on Case 580CK Diesel

I was searching the site for any old posts on how to adjust the valves on an old Case 580CK Diesel, but I found nothing. So, I am creating this new thread, hoping to get some good advice on adjusting the valves.

Here is the machine in question:

How do I check a grader (cat 120B) is working well before buying it?

Hi Guys,

I am looking at the possibility of buying a 120B grader, but I am no expert. I am wondering what I need to check on to make sure that the grader is in good working order before forking out hard earned cash? ie any obvious areas to check for oil leaks? Any must-do maneuvers during the test drive, etc?

Thanks in advance for your feedback...

I need a Maintenance app or software program

Okay I am a small equipment repair company. I see a need for either an app or a software program. Maybe there is already something like this available.

I would like to be able to input machines as my customers buy machines. I would have a data base that is searchable by customer, then by machine. As the machines are entered into the system you could set maintenance schedules. Let say an excavator is due engine oil and filter every 250Hrs. Fuel filter and air filter every 500 hrs and hydraulic fluid and filter every 1000.

I would like to be able to go on location and get all hours off of all machines for that customer. Open this app and update the hours for each machine.

At that point it could create a report by customer that says the following.

Customer ABC services required

Cat Excavator 1254
Engine oil and filter
Fuel filter
Air filter

John Deere Excavator 1243
Hydraulic fluid and filter

Hyster forklift 89456
Fuel filter
Air filter

Komatsu loader 88456
Engine oil and filter

End of report of services due:

And so on and so on. You get the idea. Please let me know if there is anything like this available or if this is something that I would need to get with a software engineer on. Thanks JJ

Mauldin rollers

Can anybody ID these old Mauldin rollers I just picked up? Apparently the new regime at Mauldin doesn't care about helping with this type of thing. The smaller one up front is the exact duplicate of 1 already own,has a 15 HP B+S engine with a clutched eccentric for vibrating the whole rig(including the fillings in your teeth, lol). The larger one has a 17HP Kohler, articulated, with an eccentric on the rear drum, all hydraulic.

Case 580 Super K runaway engine

This is more of a general diesel question. While operating at normal throttle setting the engine will suddenly speed up, as if throttle were increased. After a few seconds, or minutes, the engine returns to original speed. During the speed-up, throttling back will sometimes reduce RPMs, sometimes not. This first happened years ago, but is getting more frequent. Yesterday the engine quit completely, but later restarted ok. I suspect the governor (which I assume is in the injector pump). Clean fuel, new filter about 20 hours ago, throttle and connections all seem ok. I doubt if it could be the usual suspects (fuel lift pump, clogged lines, clogged injectors, air in the system, etc.) because most of the time it runs fine. I'm about ready to pull the injector pump for rebuild. Any ideas?

It also had to be shut off to go between gears, much like a manual transmission with a cluch con tuning to engage. ADS Pipe Seal Question

First, a rather long winded background. I have a customer with an 60" ADS corrugated pipe (in three sections) that runs under a narrow creek crossing. The heaviest load it sees are a few horses. Last year I was called out to work on a washout problem on the outlet side that also received quite a bit of runoff from the sides. I regraded and compacted the bank and installed geo with 20 or so tons of 8x12 rip rap anchored on the banks. The inlet side looked fine at the time and the customer didn't want to mess with it. That said, I set about 2 tons of rock on the banks on inlet side. We had major flooding this spring and the repair didn't budge, but now there's another problem.

When the owner had the original pipe installed, they poured a vertical concrete footing at the inlet that starts at the pipe invert and extends 18" below the surface. The runoff found it's way under the concrete and is entering back into the pipe at the first soil tight joint. Probably have the bell installed backwards. My plan is to grade/slope the entrance and install heavy pond liner material anchored with rip rap to stop the inlet leakage problem. I've done it before with no problems several years later.

So here's my question. While I'm there I'd like to seal the interior at the joints. I've used WR Meadows mastic and fiberglass tape on exterior joints before, but has anyone used a product on the interior that's worked? Keep in mind that the customer doesn't want to remove and re-bed the pipe.

CAT 236b Drive Chain Removal

I just bought a used 2007 CAT 236b skid with about 750 hours on it. It had an aftermarket set of VTS Loegering tracks on it, but I need put on tires. I took the tracks of and was about to put the tires on but noticed I could turn the front hub assembly by hand. When I took off the drive chain access panel I noticed both chains around the rear hub, must have been a condition for the VTS tracks to work right as all the torque is driven by the rear sprocket for VTS. There are 2 large sprockets in the rear. Well now with tires I would like to go back to the original assembly with chain on front and rear hub. For the life of me I can't seem to figure out how to get the chain off. I've taken the 8 bolts off the read hub assembly but can only pull the hub assembly off the bolts about 3/4 an inch or so before the first spocket inside starts bumping up against the inside.

Does anyone have any idea? There is no master link on the chain to separate it, I've checked that about 10 times on both sides, so there must be another way. Is the rear hub on a spline that I need to pull through the sprockets? There's a bolt on the back side of the shaft that's holding the rear sprockets, does that have to come out? Not sure how I'll get my hands back there, do I need to climb underneath and access that a different way. I took the bolt out of the cover on the hydrostatic center drive but even with the hub assembly loosened, couldn't get enough slack in the chain.

I must be missing something. Can anyone fill in the gaps for me?

warner swasey H700A

Hi people. Does anyone have any idea where to get hydraulic seal kits for this machine. A cross reference site would be a great help to go from manufacturer part numbers. I have the complete manuals with part numbers.
Thanks in advance.

Cutting something that's hard to access

(Without burning the machine to the ground )
Using 6010 rod switch the polarity or switch the leads.
Run it kinda hot. Cuts like a poor man's air arc.
This little trick can save you some hassle.

1971 580CK Backhoe; Total Loss of Clutch Pressure

samedi 29 août 2015

I purchased a 1971 580CK backhoe a few months back with very little history known. Since that time I have used it for medium duty around my place without any problems. Last week in the middle of use, clutch pressure dropped from 140 psi to zero psi with no prior operation or sound indication. Immediately lost all forward and reverse motion. Fluid levels were low, but I can't explain the sudden failure. Ordered support manuals today to try and help. If anyone could share some insight, it would be greatly be appreciated!

Where's all the air getting into my fuel?

I recently discovered my old ASV MD2810 fuel tank innards are all scummy & rusty when the machine quickly plugged a couple of disposable pre-filters. I drained that tank and while trying to decide how it's best to deal with it I've cobbled up a temp tank, using transparent urethane hoses. Because the hoses are transparent, I can see that there's a LOT of air in the lines, starting where the fuel exits the filter, and perhaps more by the time it's been run through the IP and is traveling through the return-hose to the temp tank - where it looks more like suds than fuel because of all the air.

Name: ASV temp fuel connections (air).jpg Views: 4 Size: 55.9 KB

This ain't normal, is it?

I could put this down to, oh, I don't know, vacuum-boiling of entrained air in the fuel from being sucked through the IP, but the idle varies a lot (new problem) and keeps making me think it's about to stall - and it doesn't start as easily as before, either.

I know next to nothing about rotary IPs but since there's no lift-pump, I gather they produce enough suction to draw the fuel up from the tank and through the filter. If there were a leak up high in the filter-housing, I'm thinking that might do it (and no fuel would drip out after shutdown). I've spun the filter off enough to look at the o-ring gasket and seat, and they look OK. There's a crappy purge-pump built into the top of the housing (no handle on it) so I suppose there might be a leaking seal in that. Anyone been through something like this?

How much work do you need to justify buying a dozer?

I have some jobs coming up where I need to clear approximately 100 miles of right of way. It is mostly mesquite brush and in the past when I have hired dozing contractors to do it they get 3-4 miles a day with a D5 sized machine. I figure roughly 25-35 days of work. I have ran a dozer maybe one week and really don't know a whole lot about them. We have skid steers and backhoes but no dozers.

I am contemplating doing this dozing myself. First thought was just rent one but then I got to looking and a lot of fairly decent machines can be found in the 40-50k range. I think renting one is probably 4-500 a day so for what I would pay in rent would nearly pay for half of the machine.

I have jobs like this maybe 2-3 times a year. Maybe I could find other uses for it as well not sure. Should I even consider a purchase or just rent one or contract it out?

Moving dirt

I'm starting a new job building a extension on a airport . There is around 30000 cubic yards. I own 4 dump trucks of my own and have a 220 komatsu excavator. The pit is a half mile away. My question is what's the best method to make this job successful and profitable. There is no room to get scrapers in the pit. Would it be worth my money to rent off road trucks to haul more yardage. Thanks in advance.

Bobcat V723 Versahandler won't drive??

We just bought the Bobcat, as is. Got it running, the boom and bucket move but it won't go in gear like the park brake is on. We have a service manual and operating manual but find nothing in troubleshooting to help us figure out the problem. We looked for a bad fuse or bare wire or a short somewhere and find nothing. Has anyone ever had this problem or have some advice for us? Oil and filters look good and full. We can't help but think it is something simple we're just missing. Thank you

Fuel Consumption?

I'm in the market for an excavator and I know roughly what I'm looking for. Ill be doing a lot of land clearing (occasional big hard rock maple to be moved but mostly your standard firewood and lumber sized trees), fence line clearing, ditching, a mile long road and a large pond to be dug. I would like to know the average fuel consumption of the following excavators:

1. Hitachi ZX270LC and ZX270LC-3

2. Hitachi ZX330LC and ZX350LC-3

3. Deere 270C LC and 270D LC

4. Deere 330C LC and 350D LC

5. Cat 330CL and 330DL

6. Komatsu PC270LC-7 and LC-8

7. Komatsu PC300LC-7 and LC-8

If any one has operated these machines, let me know! Also let me know of any major issues and what not that one of these machines may have!

New member from BC

Enjoy browsing the forums and learning new things from doing so. Site has been a good tool for me as a learning HD apprentice. Was working in forestry and laid off at the beginning of summer. Now working for an excavating company that also farms. Lots of different equipment being worked on daily and really enjoying it. I'm the only on staff mechanic so working by myself has been a great learning experience, just me and a service truck! Bring on the rain!

vendredi 28 août 2015

I have a 82 international dump truck it has a 400 bigcam in it. Last week the rod in the aircompressor broke. I replaced with another aircompressor drove it about 50 miles and it done it again. I replaced with another compressor and its trying to do it again. It seems like it's not getting any oil in the compresser case . I know it has a a big drain back to drain in the bottom of the casing but where does it get its oil from. The motor has plenty of oil pressure. Please help

671 revival

Started a 671 in champion grader that hadn't run in 10 yrs, started stupid easy but ran up to gov possibly more, cut fuel and got it shut down, looked things over and tried starting, fired up again and did the same thing again. So is the rack stuck? What else should I look at?

JD 4045 w HPCR - wet fuel in all cylinder - will not run

The exhaust ports are all about equally wet with fuel and soot. The exh pipe at the turbo had about 1/2" of wet soot in it - again I feel sure it is fuel. Injectors removed - no obvious damage. Turbo spin freely - could use a rebuild but I have seen worse slack and running fine. Everyone I have asked have a quick answer until I say " all four at the same time". Most say injectors. Some say timing - which should mean ECM? correct.? Only code is "rail pressure"- no indication if that means high or low since I am not a JD tech with a computer - the code is in the Magnum controller and it has only appeared once during many attempt to start. Compression seems fine, but I am having hell finding an adapter - so all I can do is try to hold a fitting over the injector port by hand - it blow my hand off - violently. Still have not rules out bad rings until I get a good adapter to do compression test, but most experienced mechanics that I talk to say that if it blows my hand off that bad on all four, it is probably OK. Has 11k hours on it.

Not sure where to go from here. Test injectors? Again - all four failing at the same time?
Can the ECM cause this without throwing codes by the dozens?
Can extreme wet stacking cause this?

Thanks

Magnum w/ JD 6068 - warning light - code 1180 inlet air temp?

I have the problem noted in the title. Air flow is good. More than one of these generators doing this - this summer, but not last summer.
Not to ask "leading questions", but where is this temp sensor that the inlet air temp on the controller shows 145F when I catch the code. Is it the sensor in the tube between the filter and turbo - I thought that one would be a MAF sensor.

Any input is appreciated. I just found this forum, so I will try to become an active member since this is my living now.

isuzu 41he1 rebuilt an want run just hits an shuts down?

hey guys, just helped my buddy rebuild his 04 npr truck, well it dropped a valve an tore the head an piston all to crap, so we did an inframe an replaced all liners an pistons an bearings, new head, new turbo, an replaced an injector that had got hit . put motor together an all went well till we tried to start it, basicly the motor hits once an shuts off, never really starts just kinda fires once then acts like it shuts off. I have had removed the timeing advance off the pump thinking it was a shut off solinod but it wasn't, it was the advance for starting, so to put it back ya had to send the pump to shop to get recalibrated , so sent pump off the replaced to motor, timed the motor to the 8 degrees an the pump to the long line on the timeing gear an when the pump is slid into place the 8 degree mark on pump lines up to match the cranks 8 degree. an my cam shaft is timed correct with the B mark on gear is lined up with the machined surface of the head . we ve gone in circles with this an cant find any locals around that can advise us on this matter. only thing we questioned dureing the build was witch way does the arrows point on the pistons,,, do they point to the front of the motor ( towards radiator) or towards the rear of the motor since all the timeing gears are driven from the rear, did Isuzu call the timeing gear end of the motor the front of the engine ,,, deutz (german made) motors call the rear of the motors the front, so was wandering did the Isuzu people do this too. I talked to a guy an he said that we put our pistons in faceing the the right way faceing forward towards the radiator. just spins an hits once an kinda falls out like ya cut the fuel off, even removed the fuel return line to make sure there wasn't any head pressure.

1st post new mechanic

Hello everyone, I'm new here. I have been lurking and reading for a while. I am a shop tech for a local Komatsu dealer here in Tennessee. Spent the last ten years in the automotive field before switching to the heavy equipment field. Been with my present employer now for two months. Will have my 90 days in September and will be moving into a service truck. Can't wait to get out in the field. Love working on equipment so much more than Mercedes. So glad I made the change.
