Cat 955l or 953 for quarries

lundi 23 janvier 2017

HI. MY NAME IS STATHIS AND I AM FROM GREECE. SORRY BUT MY ENGLISH IS NOT THE BEST.

I HAVE 4 QUARRIES IN GREECE AND I WANT TO BUY A TRUCK LOADER. I AM BETWEEN CAT 955L 8Y and CAT 953 (1984 model).

I DONT HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE ON TRUCK LOADERS. I HAVE MANY WHEEL LOADERS (CAT 966C(1970) - CAT 950C (1980) - CAT 980C (1982) - INTERNATIONAL 530B - KAELBLE SL18B BUT NO TRUCK LOADER.

THE LOADER IS GOING TO LOAD ROCK IN TRUCKS.

I KNOW THAT CAT 955L IS TOO SLOW AND CAT 953 IS FASTER (HYDROSTATIC). WHICH MACHINE IS BETTER FOR QUARRIES?

I WOULD APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD TELL ME YOUR OPINION.

Komatsu PC360-10 won't start

Good day to everyone. I'm here today on behalf of one of my machinery is not coroperating. Last week while an operator was running my komatsu pc360, it suddenly shut off. An LO3 code came up but he wasn't able to get the exact code the correlated to the LO3 or what symbol came up. Well now the code is no longer present and the machine just turns over. No smoke comes out no codes and it's beginning to stump me. I've read about the fuel rail pressure sensor causing the injection system to become "disabled" and not allowing starting of the engine. I've also read about the high pressure fuel pump actuator to be the problem. My problem is that the accuator has voltage that should lift the accuator to allow fuel to pass and also have fuel at the fuel rail. If anyone has ever ran into this problem before and can help it would be much appreciated. I don't have a service manual nor access to insite. I'm certified in networking of control modules but these are alittle different.

I f.....d up a little, quick question

I drive a New Holland tractor, T6 175, and after a small hydraulic leak I had top top up the hydro reservoir. This tractor has a combined rear axel/hydraulic reservoir containing 16-17 gallons of mobilfluif 426. This is where I fracked up and filled a gallon or two of diesel (never gonna NOT label a barrel again). Before I noticed this I have used the tractor for some hours. What is the correct course forward to undo this? I've found that some diesel in hydraulic fluid is ok, but I dont think this is the case with axle/gear system? Any advice?

Bobcat 843 Hydraulic Controls Malfunction

dimanche 22 janvier 2017

Hello, brand new to the forum and just bought my first skid steer ever, Bobcat 843. I bought it with hydraulic issues, but not really sure what I was getting into.

The left foot (lift) is not working at all, doesn't cause lifting arms to move. The right foot (tilt) will work the cylinder when there isn't a bucket on it, if bucket on it, it will not lift the machine off ground when you tilt down. When you curl the tilt to the fullest, then the loader arms will lift up, when nothing is touching left foot peddle. Also, when you pull the right steering lever in towards your thigh (auxiliary function), the loader arms will lift up and no foot peddles are being pressed.

Where do I start to diagnose this, could this be the control valve spools leaking across circuits, or could this be a relief valve issue?

Appreciate any help, I am determined to fix this myself even if it takes me a few months. I want to learn about these machines.

Tire question

Rear tires on my backhoe need up graded. Size is 21L-24 R4, the LR is an Alliance 12 ply and the RR is a Firestone 16 ply heavily dry rotted. New tires are not in the budget so I bought two fairly decent used Firestones. But what I didn't realize is they are only 10 ply. The manual says to use 12 ply. I would like to find another Alliance to mach the one I have but for now I was planing to use the two Firestones.
My Dynahoe 1900 weighs 24,000 LBS, so I'm kinda wondering, could this be a bad combination? Will it be bouncy and unstable?
Thanks!

sand and gravel pit dragline excavator or dredge

I went to look at buying a screen to use for what ever the purpose may be. it was for sale, do to just sitting there with no future plans as they were retired.

The screen 16 x 6 triple deck and raises up like a semi dump trailer has a continental diesel power unit

The screen was for a sand/gravel pit that really never took off, only about a 1 to 3/4 acre area size was the pit area or pond about 20' depth of water and was on a 90 acre site.

larger populated towns are closer to this, the other sand pits are father away.

The owner stated that is goal or thoughts were in the end to have a couple pay lakes after mining

Well to make the story short I just came out and asked if any thought of letting me mine it out as I have some decent size equipment the answer was: yes they would entertain that of coarse they would get some royalties also so I have a question: what would be fair on royalties anyone ? after all they nice enough to entertain it. and let me have a crack at it.

next question what the best cheapest way to extract this sand and gravel ?
I own a 600 excavator and 50ton trucks
Would it be better for a dragline
what about a smaller dredge

why did this hose blow?

Hi all,

I was hoping to get your opinion on this. I own a JD 750 C series 2 dozer. Last summer, I had the transmission pumps and motors rebuilt. Since that time, I have had one of the hoses to the left motor fail twice. The first time, it was just a small leak. The second time, the hose burst at the crimp - please see the attached photo. This is a high pressure hose (5500 PSI). I was hoping you could give me your thoughts on this - is there a problem with the motor rebuild or the way this hose was made? I used the same new place to make this hose (both times). Thanks.

Case 580 Super M Ignition Short update

Hi ,
Still searching for shorted ignition wire. Have disconnected several harness plugs but no luck. I have narrowed it down though.
To recap, The ignition wire is shorted from the key switch right through to the engine. We disconnected the wire on the key switch and starter solenoid ,(it was shorted out there too) and we put a jumper wire from battery to solenoid, manually closed solenoid on fuel pump and machine started but would not move in forward or reverse. It was suggested that there must be power from this same ignition wire that powers the forward and reverse relay.
In seaching for the short we found that when we disconnected the main harness by the loader control the wire from there back to the key switch was not grounded. When we reconnected it , the ignition wire was grounded out again. We moved along to the next main harness junction on the firewall below the steering wheel. Now the wire from the starter solenoid was no longer grounded. Therefore we thought the ground must be in a relay like maybe from the transmission shifter. We pulled all the relays and they looked ok. If there was a short in the wire after a relay, wouldn't that cause a relay to blow or could it maybe cause a relay to hold closed, thereby continuing to short out the entire ignition wire?
Any suggestions appreciated.

John Deere 690e lc Control pattern

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a John Deere 690 and was wondering if anybody could help me. I've done a bit of research but could not find the answer. I was wondering if there was a way to switch to control pattern on this model ? I am used to the Backhoe control and it has excavator control and would like to switch it. I think the year is 89 but not sure, the serial num is DW690EL553389. If anybody could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

ct 332 no getting fuel

Other day it died on me. Sounded just like an engine running out of fuel. Not a whole lot of experience on diesels. Went thru troubleshooting in my manuals, no help. While checking the things that I do know a little about I discovered
that I cannot suck diesel thru the hose on the inlet side of the water/fuel separator filter. That doesn't seem right.
Anyhow, I'm stuck at this point in trying to isolate the problem. My question is, should I be able to apply suction to the supply hose with engine not running and get fuel? The primer pump is working because I can hold the tip of my
finger on the inlet and feel section as i push down on the plunger. Any help would surely be appreciated.

580k transaxle first and second gear shift lever assy

I have a 580K serial JJG003XXXX. The lever assembly for first and second gear broke inside the transaxle.
I have ordered a replacement and need to remove the front housing cover. This 580k has four wheel drive and hoping I can remove the housing cover with the drive attached.
Has anyone replaced this lever and able to share some information before I get started taking it apart?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

So far I have removed the 4 wheel front drive shaft, The linkage to the mechanical front drive engage lever and the drive shaft to the transaxle.

There is a line entry in between the mechanical front drive and the transaxle cover with a rubber boot on it. Have not traced it out yet to determine how its removed. It has a clamp over it holding it into position and attached with a bracket to the transavle cover.

Looking for a case xt

I want a different skid steer. I have a NH lx485 but grew up, so to speak, on a case 1840 years ago. I bought the 485 because at the time needed the short cab height in order to get into a storage building. Now that isn't so important and besides my knees just kill me after a couple of hours running foot controls.
I need to bigger machine that has the power to move dirt now but can't justify a new machine and so wondering which xt case would fit that bill for me? I sure miss the self leveling bucket of the old 1840 but have learned to compensate for that now. Would be interested in remote hydraulics, two speed travel, and lots of power. Any suggestions on which xt I should look for? Thanks!

Jcb skid steers?

I have had a couple of cat skid steers for use here on the farm for everything. Lots of gates to open so a lot of in and out of the machine. I like the jcb design (easier entry and exit) but what is the quality of these machines? I see the resale is not very high. My experience with jcb backhoes is excellent and poor at the same time. Had a 214 at work that was the best hoe I ever seen so they bought another one ten years later and it was an absolute piece of junk. Anyone with a lot of hours on one of these? Good points? Weak points. Does the single arm design change the way you use the machine. I am looking at a 260 or a 280. I like the volvos also but rare to find a used one in my area.
Any input good or bad would be appreciated.
Thanks

Advice on Biodegradable Hyd Fluid.

Hi

I'm looking for some advice regarding the possible purchase of a used 2012 Komatsu PC210-8. The machine is one of a pair in the local Heavy Equipment auction, it has come from a large pipeline contractor in our area and is in very good condition with full service history by the UK Komatsu dealer.
But yesterday as I was inspecting the machine I noticed it has been run on Biodegradable Hydraulic oil, the machine has 4800 hrs on the clock will this have caused any damage to the hydraulic system in this time?

Thanks Steve

Ford industrial 4500 Wreck

Hi,

I've recently purchased a a Ford Industrial 4500 with loader but no backhoe. I have now discovered it has had a terrible life of abuse and neglect. One of the first things I"m trying to fix is the worn out power steering linkage and power steering leaks.

I'm replacing pivot pins and bushings that are replaceable, but there is a couple of pins and pivot points that are not replaceable and am wondering if some play in this one item is designed that way.

If the pictures do not show up I'm going to have to explain my issue much better, but I think if the pictures come through you will understand what I'm talking about.

There does not seem to be a bushing under the cap labeled "2" in my picture, the pin underneath is extremely loose fitting but does not seem to have excessive wear. Picture 2 shows with the cap removed and the large amount of play around the pin. I'm wondering if there needs to be some play in this arm for the hydraulic valve on the power steering cylinder to actuate?

Pin labeled "3" also has no bushing and does in fact show some wear but is un-replaceable....whats the most sensible solution for a fix here.

Don

Caterpillar CX28 coupled with CAT C9 engine...gear shifting issue

Hello all I am Bill Townsend from London,UK. I have CX28 Caterpillar transmission and it wont shift from 1st gear. It is only shifting in 1st and reverse gear and neutral. It will not shift to 2nd 3rd and so on. Please suggest what possible problems can be stopping the transmission to shift. I did a little bit research and found the following aspects that might be effecting it;

1- Oil cooling system not complete? (note: the cooling system that is the heat exchanger and auxiliary fans are disconnected and bypassed)
2- How does the cooling system switch the auxiliary fans to operate and what controls it?
3- Lockup clutch not engaging? (What possible things that can inhibit the ecu to not engage the lockup clutch)
4- accelerator pedal WM526 not calibrated? (How to calibrate and make sure it is rightly calibrated)
5- Engine RPM?
6- Transmission Oil pressure?
7- Transmission Oil filter blockage?

Please suggest more and please suggest actions how to check for the above mentioned issues.

International TD15C Help

Hi All,
I have been reading a lot on your great forum over recent months as I searched for the right Dozer for my current Needs.
I ended up buying a 1984 International TD15C with a Hydraulic Tilt and manual angle Blade.
The Main Rams have been resealed but the Tilt Ram is leaking a bit and as the Blade is removed for Transport I wanted to fix this leak before fitting.
My Question:

How do you get this Ram apart ??
We have removed the Ring of Bolts but cannot find a Circlip or what retains the Center hub that holds the Pressure Seal.
I have added some pictures can anyone please help?

Thanks in advance.

Case 321E Deutz Engine Starting Issue

vendredi 20 janvier 2017

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping with the wealth of knowledge on here, I can get some opinions on this issue.

We have a case 321E, with the deutz engine, bf4m2011. It is my understanding that some of the Bobcat Skid steers used this engine, or similar engine.

The issue is the unit will not start after sitting overnight. It will crank over, and smoke, and will eventually have to be boosted. If you crank it over long enough, eventually it will start on its own. (probably 4-5 tries of 30 second cranking) You can also give it a very small amount of ether, and it will start right away. (the machine is parked in a warm shop) Once it has started, you can shut it down and start it up fine. It can sit for 4-5 hours, and start up fine.

There is no lack of engine power. Engine sounds good while running. 11000hrs on the engine, with very little engine work. A few turbos, starter and alternators. Timing belt hasn't even been done yet. (I know, timing belt should have been done at 5000hrs)

New injectors were installed, with no change.
Glow pins appear to be working properly. They stay on only a few seconds. Perhaps they should be on longer? Perhaps they are not getting hot enough any more?
Lift pump pressure has been checked, and is good. 8psi at idle, over 14psi at high idle. Fuel is not bleeding down. Clear lines were installed, and no air bubbles were noted overnight. Fuel is also present right away at the injectors.

This is a difficult issue to diagnose, as I only get one test per day.

Crossmemberless dump bed, what are the weak points?

I recently built a dump truck using an 04 sterling and added a 16ft crossmemberless Crown bed to it. I did not realize the bed would come without crossmembers or that it was even possible to build one without. I made the deal for a bed they already had built to save on the build time. I typically haul gravel or dirt, not usually demolition materials. My question is: does anyone one have experience with this type of bed and what are some things that you wouldn't do with it that you would do with a normal dump bed? After internet searching, I see several companies make these types of beds, just doesn't look very stout to me!

Opinions on Gehl 5635sx

jeudi 19 janvier 2017

Hi everyone.

This is my first post.

About 5 years ago I purchased a brand new kioti ck27 tractor with FEL to maintain my 14 acre property. I've been very happy with it overall but I find that I need more machine. I pretty much only push snow with it and use the loader in summer to lift trees for firewood and that kind of thing. I often borrow a skid steer as my tractor doesn't dig well and won't lift a ton..

My tractor at 5000lbs has a rough time pushing through the hard drifts we get in winter and it lacks breakout force so even scooping through them can be tough. It also lacks traction even though I have snow tires and 4x4.

It also has a open cab and with Temps dipping to -40 celicious here its not fun spending 4 hours pushing snow with no cab..

Last week I stopped in a gehl dealer that is close to home and had a look at what they had for sale on the lot. I've been told this dealer is good to deal with and my initial experience was very good. I'm thinking of trading in my 5 year old compact tractor on an older skid steer. Figured I'd look for something early to mid 2000s with no more then 2000 hours.

Online the dealer had a Gehl 4840 with 1500 or so hours so I went in to have a look. That machine was sold.

So,

Manager showed me a 1997 Gehl 5635sx that's on the lot. It was older and larger then anything i had looked at previously to this so initially i wasnt very interested. But after I started looking at the 5635 I saw Its a large frame machine (bigger cab and should be more capable) has a cab and heat, single speed, standard flow hydraulics (20gpm), universal quick attach and a large smooth bucket that I think was 80" or so. It has the gehl t bar controls which Ive never run but I like hand controls. Looks like it will lift 1800 lbs or up to 2000 plus with weights. It weighs 7200lbs which is 2200lbs more then my compact tractor which should do the trick for pushing through those drifts at home.

Unit has 2200 hours and was used on a small farm for landscaping/speading top soil and I assume snow removal. It has rust spots on it and could use a paint job but overall it seemed free of dents and dings /signs of abuse. Couldn't see any leaks underneath and the engine was clean. Interior is what youd expect on a 20 year old skid, used but not abused. Dealer put a new Gehl seat in which is very comfy.

Tires are old, about 80% tread but are cracked. Appears this skid has spent most of its life on soft ground based on the tires.

Dealer said the previous owner had a new engine installed by another deutz dealer but couldn't tell me why the old engine failed just that a new motor had been installed and had bills for it.

New engine has 50 hours on it, previous owner traded it on a compact tractor as he wanted to run a tiller and brush hog on the farm and said he didn't use the Gehl much anymore as it didn't fit his needs.

They also have basically an identical 4835 sxt that is similar but the lift capacity is less and I believe but am not sure that is a smaller frame machine?

Any info on the 4835sxt vs 5635sx? They are the same horse power but the 5635 lifts and weighs more and the engine has more displacement which I'm guessing wold make it feel more powerful?

So my questions are is a large frame older machine like this 5635 a good buy or should I consider a slightly newer 4835 sxt with the same horse but less lift capacity and wieght? Or should I be looking for something a little smaller in the early to mid 2000s like I originally planned. Newer smaller machines are in my price range but I'm unsure if they will out push out lift and older 35 series gehl.

Any thoughts?

Cat 416d help and advice needed

I have owned a Cat 416-D for three years now. Sometimes it runs well and other times poorly. I have changed fuel filters a dozen times, cleaned the fuel tank vent, replaced the air filter, drained the tank looking for debris etc. I found a few old gas cap parts in the tank and a small tubular screen that looks like it should be over the fuel intake tube. The machine runs well at idle and it also runs well when hot (after 1/2 an hour). In between, it often stalls out or dies. During this time, I can put the pedal to the floor and it will not respond and will slowly die (sometimes), but at other times it will slowly ramp up in RPM. This behavior is on and off. I have drained some fuel out of the bottom of the fuel filter and found some little black specs that were attracted to a magnet (rust...?) but the inside of the tank looks very clean.

We are a long way from a Cat dealer and the one time I took it there, they couldn't find any problems. Can any of you please help me with tests procedures or ideas?

Kind regards,

JB

Eqipment repair tax deductions.

There may not be an answer to this question but I thought I would ask. Just say you spent 10K $ on repairs , What % would you get as a refund on your taxes? I had a guy try to tell me 90% , I can't see that , my guess would be 25 to 35%. Figuring in that the business made money but it was spent back out in repairs and parts.

keep the 742 or upgrade to 743, 753, or 773

I have a Bobcat 742, gas powered with the mitsu engine. It's been ok and has served it's purpose for the cheap price I paid

I can't do heavy or fast work with it. When I try to dig into a big pile or spin to fast, the engine will die and I have to let it recover. it does works for spreading crushed stone, loam, mulch, etc.

I have a midi excavator for bigger stuff and I admit I don't have a ton of use for the bobcat.

A few other machines have come up on craigslist I have been watching. A 743 w/ Kubota, a 753 and 773 . The 753 and 773 are about $2k more than the 743.

Will I get some better performance from the other machines? Will they still bog and stall out like the 742? I like the 743 because of price, but I don't want to get stuck with another weak machine. what do you guys think? are the 753/773 really that much more powerful?

Software For Tracking Customer Equipment Maintenance?

I work on generators. Most of them have a fairly predictable run time spread over months. I am wondering if there is some kind of master software that can track oil changes, runtime, fuel filter changes, etc. as time goes by and enter intermediate hours either from customer reading or if I go there to do repairs.

JD 27 zts engine parts or whole

I have a 2002 Isuzu 3LD1 engine for parts. Crankshaft was fixed and I have over $1500 in parts that were put in it 120 hrs ago. At 120 hrs after rebuild crank snapped which in turn put a hairline crack in the block. Has good head, pistons, alternator, starter, injection pumps, flywheel, hydraulic coupler was just purchased at rebuild so it only has a few hours also. Let me know if you want parts or whole engine

New Holland L220 Not lifting proper weight

I have a New Holland L220 Skid steer that will not lift like it should . We have tested main hydraulic pressure and flow which is good . We have also tested the boom section of the valve, testing for port relief problems . It builds proper pressure on the boom circuit . The boom does not leak down . Any ideas ?

Gehl DL-10L 55 Shop/Maintenance manual

I have searched all over the net for an actual MAINTENANCE/SHOP manual for my DL-10 lift.

We are a small construction company and do most of our equipment maintenance in house (3 telehanders, 2 man lifts).

I have all the parts manuals and owner manuals but I know there are heavy maintenance manuals many dealers use for heavy repairs.
Any help is appreciated for at this moment I have my front axle seal leaking and front left brakes shot and am lost on how to move forward to repair.
Thanks.

555 tran/diff fluid levels

Changing fluids on a newly acquired 555B. Refilled trans with 134A to full mark on stick. Did the same for the diff using the rear stick. When I went back and checked the trans stick it was way overfull. I think I have read that the trans/diff are interconnected, but wondering which dipstick is wrong. Anybody out there know or anybody with a 555 that can measure the front and rear dipstick markings length and let me know what they are?

John Deere 862 diff lock

mardi 17 janvier 2017

Anyone familiar with the old 862's? I'm working on one now. The differential won't lock, when I hit the pedal it goes straight to the floor and doesn't come back up. Its like the system has zero pressure. I know that there's a piston inside the case that locks it together but not sure where I could test the system pressure at if there's a test port. I only have a parts book available, no service manual. Does anyone know where I could check pressures at? Or any ideas of why I'm getting a dead pedal?

Cat 414e skip loaders/landscape loaders...really that bad?

I've read a couple reviews saying the cat 414e is terrible to finish grade with. Is this really true? I would be using it to load 95%, grade 5%. And the grading would be long driveways and roads.

Bomag BMP851 Trench roller

S# 101 720 05 2293

Have a fault code coming up at engine start. The code is 5091, which according to my fault code list is a slope sensor issue. The problem is my book does not define the fault codes for the slope sensor, all it says is slope sensor. LOL Does anyone have definitions of for the fault codes 5090 and 5091? The 5091 code is preventing my engine from starting.

By best guess previous owner had inventory from Bobcat or a local small machine sales yard available! Teeth are WAAYY too small!! Cutting edge appears to be old motor grader edge. 1/4" sidewalls, moldboard will need scab in on floor as cracks and worn spots besides the scuff shoes.

And YES, that is how I knew about bucket sidewall holes from teeth, my doing.
