Cat 931 tract tension grease fitting removal

I got to replace the grease fitting. How do you remove the grease fitting without removing the metal plate.
The slots are slightly smaller that the fitting. The rock guard will be a pain-in-the-rear to remove because
of the worn off heads. Thanks....J
