I pulled the gearcase out of my skid today along with the final drive chains. I had to replace the hydro wheel motor. Can anyone tell me what I should put back into the gear case for oil and how much. Also what do I use for the chain case as well




2007 Deere 650J engine oil drain valve?

Can anyone tell me how the engine oil drain valve works on a 2007 Deere 650J ? It is located on the side of the pan with a drain hose attached. All I can see is a nut on the side of it. Thanks in advance for any help.




2006 John Deere 160 CLC AC problems

I have a 2006 John Deere 160 CLC with 2400 hours on it and the AC was cooling very good and would quit blowing cold air for a little bit and them start cooling again and now has stopped cooling at all, The compress is getting power to lock in the clutch when the AC is turned on but clutch does not lock in to run the compressor. Does anyone have any suggestions or know where the low pressure switch is so I can check it?

An MSHA Inspector with a sense of humor?

We were having our first MSHA inspection in over a year, not sure why our location has been "lucky?".



Inspector was looking around shop and pointed to a plastic drum I use for catching anti-freeze when working on equipment. As a couple years ago we heard other plants had been sighted for not having drain pans labeled so I have all the ones used for oils marked "Used Oil" and the ones I use for anti-freeze marked "Used Coolant". Well this inspector points to a nice clean and empty drain pan marked "Used Coolant" and tells me it is mislabeled. Not sure where it came from, I'll blame my smart ass remarks on my late mom, but I said back to him that it was labeled correctly as it was full of used coolant. I said we have a Deutz Air cooled diesel and the coolant from that is in the tub. He just smiled and went on with his inspection. I think he got the joke either that I will be up on Federal Charges in the morning!

john deere 650H travel/steer issue

hey guys im new on the forum, have a 650H that is very slow on the right side for the first few minutes after it has sat over night, problem goes away after you travel forward & back for 3-6 minutes & then operates normally after that. i gave the codes to a service manager & he said they all have to do with calibrating so it prolly needs to be calibrated. But that makes no sense to me since it goes away in a short while. the codes are :

John Deere 450g Transmission Help

Hey guys I have a 97 lgp machine that has no foward and reverse in 1st and 2nd gear 3rd and 4th work fine I removed the suction filter and found clutch fibers and about half a big snap ring does anyone know where a source for good parts the dealer said the clutch drum was not avalible from JD any other good tips for removing the tranny would be helpful I bought a manual Thanks

massey ferguson external forward/reverse hyd pump

I have a chance to buy a old dozer I use to operate many years ago but the owner says it needs a new/rebuild forward/reverse hydraulic pump. It's a external pump on the side of the block(perkins) and he has made a access hole so you can get to it, he also said he had a mechanic look at it and put a gauge on it...... it was toast. I was wondering if anyone has worked on one of these gem's and would help me out with what to expect and if there was a field test to confirm that it's the pump.

Yikes, went to shift my 580K from 2nd to third (was stopped) and now it won't move,??

I have a phase 3 ser# JJG0025?96 (shifter on the side connsel), I went to shift from 2nd to third and when I put it back in forward........... nothing. now it won"t move forward or back in any gear. I'm hoping it's just the auto neutral solenoid stuck but I'm not usually that lucky.




'05 Cat 305 CR electrical problem, no start, ignition dead

Started the excavator this morning to move it 50 feet out of the way, started fine, shut it off, about a hour later came back and tried to move it and when turning the key on it would beep, fuel needle moves, dash lights came on which is all normal but when I hit they key everything goes out and starter doesn't engage or make any noise. Tried key again and the same thing, kept trying the key, sometimes when key on the lights would come on, then others nothing at all when key is on. A couple times when the key in off position I could hear a buzzing coming from under the seat by the hour meter, turn key on and the buzz would quit, or when it was buzzing with key off it would quit on its own after 5 seconds or so. Now key in the on position is totally dead and in the off position there is no noises either.



I think this problem has been in the works for quite awhile now. As far back as a year I can remember needing to hold the key in the start position before the started would engage, it was very minimal though, like a second rather than instantly. Or I would turn it on, dash lights and everything would come on but try to start it and all would go out, it only did this a handful of times.



As far as a buzzing next to hour meter there is a small box there with wires going into it that says NGK on it.



Also I've test lighted fuses in the panel and there is power that far, but when am holding the test light on a fuse and its lit up and hit the horn or the ignition the light goes dim.



I've got some ideas, such as bad ignition or grounds, but what do you think? Is there any wiring diagrams available? Thanks in advance.




Painting D7H Crawler

Thinking about repainting my D7H crawler, I am probably going to get it sandblasted as it has many coats of paint because previous owners just brushed on more every time it chipped or rusted. Does anyone have an idea of how much paint it would take to cover it, I am going to prime it with an epoxy primer first and then an industrial paint with activator as I am not a big fan of one part implement paint. I am thinking it should take three or four gallons with the blade. I has a cab and canopy, but I will be painting the cab black like the D7Rs.




hitachi ex 120-2 electrical issues please help

I am in desperate need of some help on my machine. I have a hitachi ex120-2. that the throttle is not working. on. i am getting 15 volts and sometimes 25 volts to the 2 power legs of the ec motor. when i hook the ec motor up the throttle will jump from power to off and keep repeating. we have replaced the control pad, the ecu, the cab harness,also a new ec motor. if anybody has had any problems like this or has any ideas please help. thank you




2011 JCB 8014 Immobiliser Problems

Hi Guys

I have a JCB 8014 2011 and it is not Reconising its Key on the Immobiliser. I have tried to reprogramme the key with the Red master Key. but it still will not start.

Has anyone else had this problem with this type of machine. I have 11 other machines and they all work correctly. This was working fine when iot went out on hire but was returned with this Fault.




CAT TH460B Alternator not charging

3220 hours on the machine



The alternator stopped charging about 9 months ago.



I called CAT and they wanted $611 for a replacement alternator!!



I took the existing unit to a local rebuilder and $50 later, she was charging again.



Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and it is not charging again. Ok, time to find a new one. Call around and find what seems to be a suitable replacement for $311. It is supposed to be the same unit, but 105amp not the stock 90amp. CAT tech even confirmed that the new PN was an alternate for machines with a cab.



My guy puts it in and the back is a little different. The harness has a yellow and green wire. The alternator has a green and black wire. He figures green to green and black to yellow. It still doesn't charge. Even swapping the wires, it doesn't charge.



It seems to be a Denso unit and seems to have an internal voltage regulator.



Any assistance would be much appreciated!

i have a 1995 l8000 the clutch pedal sits real high. I have had the clutch and pedal linkage adjusted and it doesn't change anything.the clutch feels fine just pedal real high anyone know if this can be fixed or changed. Thanks




Laser Leveling Box Grader

How many of you own them or can give me some feedback on them. We are possibly on track to land a few very large jobs where an actual laser box grader would come in very handy. There is some single slope on the job so were looking at a dual laser box system. What are the best out there? I dont want to say that cost isnt an issue but we plan on getting the best. I plan on towing it with a John Deer grading tractor but would listen to the front end box graders for our Case as well.



Level best ive talked with. They seem like the best out there? True?

Cat 615 cushion axle question

I have a 615c scraper with a cushion axle that when engaged makes a hard bang and jolts upward and then rises to ride height. It seems to work fine once up but the jolt scares me away from using it for fear of tearing something up.its been like this since i bought it. When lowered it seems to settle cab side first then other side follows, like its not lowering level. I've been told that the accumulator could use a charge but haven't done much research on this issue and don't completely understand this system. Has anyone heard of anything like this or know anything about it?




Case 850G Dozer noise

Hi Everyone. I am new to this website.



I have owned a Case 850G dozer for about a year. Today I noticed a new knocking / clicking noise. It only occurs when the dozer moves. It occurs in forward, reverse, and all gears. The frequency of the knocking noise also speeds up as the dozer speed increases. The sound seems to be coming from under my feet in the cab. The best I can describe the sound would be similar to the knocking / clicking you would hear on a roller coaster as it goes up the initial hill.



If anyone could guide me on what on earth this new sound could be I would greatly appreciate it. All fluid levels appear fine so I am quite confused and concerned.




BobCat T190 travel problems- lockup

Son just bought a 2006 Bobcat T190. First week ran 8 hours a day. Now runs great for about an hour, then all of a sudden the tracks lockup. Travel levers are hard to push. Will drag motor rpm down and stall out if you push hard on the levers. If he jerks the levers around back and forth, something seems to pop loose, then he is ok to go again... might last 5 seconds or 5 minutes then do it again. Seems to run o.k. for the first hour. I don't have a manual yet, trying to figure out if this is solenoid (electrical), solenoid spool, hydraulic spool, or other. We did change the hydraulic oil after this happened, and it still occurred the next time he ran it.. Other than that, its a great machine.

2000 Hitachi EX 160 LC -5 (Auto Ide Issue)

Hey Guys, I have a small issue with my EX, the auto idle stopped working a few weeks back. I start up the machine turn knob to full power and press the auto idle the motor idles down, I then move the controllers and she idles up but will not auto idle down, stays at full RPM till I turn the knob down. The auto feature has been working for several months then just stopped one day, I have checked fuses looked for any wiring issues but cant seam to locate any visual problems. I called my local dealer and they want to send someone out for 100service charge, plus mileage and 110 per hour. I don't mind paying but would like to check all the small stuff before I spend 400 plus just to find out a wire is loose or a connector came off.

The A/I light does show up on the monitor when button is pressed.

TMZ-3419 Genie Lift Having Some Control Issues. Help VOODOOMOJO !!!!!!!

I came across some posts of TMZ owners that you helped out. I'm at my whit's end and am ready to hurt something.....LOL.



I sure would appreciate some of your knowledge.



The machine is a TMZ34/19. S/N T3401-328. Electric Schem #ES0209 VIN #5D8AA19171R000328



Batteries were replaced last year. (2) motor controllers in the last 3 years which I believe was due to bad batteries.

The control boards are the original green boards.



The lift gets used very little and sits for weeks at a time in my driveway.



It was acting really bad before I changed the batteries last year. The new batteries seemed to fix the controller issues until a few days ago. The ground controls work perfectly for the time being. The basket controls are intermittent at best. Might work for a few seconds and then quit. The basket will not work at all. If I extend the basket from the ground control and then switch the key to basket control, the basket will immediately retract without pushing the down button. The other jib cylinders stay in place when the key is switched.



All functions seem to work perfectly from the ground control. Basket controls are the problem.



My machine doesn't have the error display. You mentioned that you had a computer program. Any chance it's still available?

I will be more than happy to compensate your time.



I did some checking this morning and found the following:

1. All of the ground controls work perfectly.

2. None of the platform controls work.

3.with Ground Control active: I can hear the basket solenoid click as each of the buttons are pressed. All buttons except rotation.

4. Platform Control Active: The platform solenoid clicks for all buttons except the "Down Basket" and rotation buttons.

5. If the basket is raised with the ground control, it will immediately drop if the key is switched to "Platform".



I tried to plug the platform touchpad ribbon connector into the ground control pc board but the ground control ribbon plug has more connector pins so I didn't push them together.

With the platform touchpad ribbon connector unplugged, I used my ohm meter to look for continuity of any two of the ribbon wires and all combinations were infinity.

2006 Case 430 Starts Runs Sputters Dies

Just bought 06 430 from a buddy in February, We installed a new used bosch injection pump prior to purchasing and seemed to take care of rough starting and sputtering issues it was having. I Ran for roughly a month moving snow and had no issues untill around May. Was spreading some dirt and noticed a slight sputtering begain and progessivly got worse, found a leaky gasket on side of new used injection pump , pulled pump and replaced gasket and also replaced all fuel lines and filters and mechanical lift pump thinking maybe this would take care of it. It starts and runs fine for roughly 5 minute and then sputters so bad it will kill the motor if you try to move bucket or drive. Any help would be much appreciated.

jcb 814 super-tracking

My 814 tracks backwards very slow and weak, forwards is very strong, normal, no stones or dirt under the tracking pedals, someone sergested the rotary manifold and the oil seals inside, any ideas would be much appreiciated.

problem about Kobelo SK200

Hi everyone, I got a problem here which I can't figure out how to fix about geetle 200SR.

First of all, I'm from Hong Kong , my English is not very good, hope u guys can understand what am I talking about.



Last week, the computer on the machine got some problem ( can't control the oil power volume, some times weak sometimes strong ), since this is quite urgent , I put a computer from other 200SR on the. original one 200SR. The oil power control power problem fixed. However, another problem exists.



Every things move smooth , but when I turn it to the left, it move really slow( basically no power , I have to turn right really fast then turn back to left hand side so it have energy to turn left).



Is it something problem about the installation of the computer? Or there is another problem ? Hope u guys can help, thanks

liebherr A 316 Litronic swings left by itself!!

Replaced swing gear a couple of days ago, other was shot. Had a load of metal filings all over in the gears. :(Replaced with a Reman I bought in Holland. Put my own swing motor back on. Now when I want to swing to the left, it puts oil pressure on my left lever pushing it back to center position and swings left by itself a quarter turn or so and then stops. I can't stop it. And if I move stick out or curl bucket at the same time it will swing longer. :confused: To the right swings normal.



Can there be pressure from the pump coming into the servo system?? Maybe some O-ring blew? I talked to my mechanic back home in Holland and he asked if I didn't swap the swing break hose with the servo hose... But they cannot. One has a straight coupling and the other a 90 degree one. Plus the swing brake works normal.



What can I do?

Sumitomo SH160-5 Run of Bad Luck??

Hi all, we have a sumitomo sh160-5 that we have had just had the motor fully rebuilt only 200 hrs ago ( machines only done 5000 hrs now ), and now we have just had to pull the motor out again, as they think the crank could be broken, and this is after having had to pull the hydraulic pump out the week before, as this had shared the shaft off, that's the short story. Machine is used for forestry and sometimes running a Berti mulcher. The long story goes :

Brought the machine as a 1 owner, only had 3900hrs on the clock in February of 2013 . Went fine for the first month, but then started to use water and oil every day. Found out it needed a new head. New head put on, and machine ran great, no water or oil used. Then in April 2014, bang. Smoke everywhere!!!



Rang mechanic, after checking water and oil, which was fine, and talked to him, to which he thought it could be the turbo had gone. Discussed with him about plan for fixing and getting it out of where it was, he said it would be fine to walk it out. Tracked it out to a skid site, about 4minutes walking it out, and parked it. Mechanic came out, pull the turbo/manifold off to get numbers etc for a new turbo, that's when he noticed oil siting on number 3 pot, he said at the time, that there could be more damage, but will start with a new turbo, as the old one was stuffed, too much play in the shaft.

Put new turbo on, but sadly no, more smoke, and fumes coming out of the breather hose, so machine was put on a transporter and taken to the shop to be pulled down. They found number 3 piston was cracked right in half and also had a hole brunt thru it. So new pistons,rings etc for a rebuild.

Also at this time, the found that the soft coupling for the hydraulic pump, was cracked and broken, so a new one fitted at the time of the rebuild.



Motor was put back together, and after a couple of small hic ups, getting the new injectors to work, the machine was up and running again, and put back into service, this time with the mulcher on, mulcher willows. Machine ran great, no water or oil issues, just a small fuel leak ( could only tell due to working in a river ). Machine ran like this for two weeks soild, no issues.



After this, we were back into logging. Machine was going great, no noise, no use of water/oil, no smoke. Then the machine lost all power, we shut it down and checked all the fluids, all were fine. Rang the mechanic, he said he be out to check everything out. He came out, rechecked everything, started the motor, that's when he said there was a "knock" and shut it down. He pulled the pump, that's when he notice that the shaft had shared off, so pump was pulled out and sent away to get fixed.



He was still worried about the "knock" so came back out and check it over again, to find that he could move the flywheel, that's when he said the crank maybe broken, so we pulled the motor back out on Friday just gone. Just waiting to hear back from him now to see what he has found after pulling it apart



Is this a run of bad luck or what?? Or has something not been aligned right when it was first put together??

Has anyone had this happened to them before??

What's everyone's views/ideas??

2005 Bobcat A300 Axle leak - any mechanics

I have a 2005 A300 with only 52 hours.



It has a severe leak from the left rear tire, inside coming from axle seal I believe.



Any advice, dealer wants 2k to change, no thanks.

D3B pinion removal question.

Anybody know which hoops you have to jump through to get the nut off the pinion gear shaft on a D3B? Any help would be greatly appreciated. The shop manual says, "remove the pinion", seems as though they left out a huge part of the story.

Pretty sure there are a bunch of you guys that know the answer.

McCloskey Track Mounted Jaw Crusher

splitting a ford 555 backhoe

i think i have to split my ford 555 because i suspect the transmission oil pump pick up filter has come off. thanks to that guy who replied to my thread about trouble with my torque converter problem. the torque converter it doesn't work in forward or reverse when facing up hill.we can bring it back to life by extending the stabiliser legs, when we push into a pile of gravel we can spin rear wheels in 2nd or first gear so we think torque converter is ok. oil level is full in gear box. what do you think?




caterpillar d6d 4x series skip in certain RPM range. could be fuel filter but........

when i crank this machine, it has a slight skipping sound. As if...an injector is a little off. it warms up a little, it gets smooth. a quarter way up the rpm range, it has a very slight skip. but not always....

wide open throttle....or basically half to wide open..its perfect and stout.



in average operation....i use the decelerator pedal as a clutch....feathering slowly when shifting or forward to reverse...controlling track spin.....it isnt noticeable. but when i power wayyyy down....it is (sometimes) making a skip sound.



I have changed both fuel filters over and over...but it still persists.



the machine has 7000 range original hours. i have never had a fuel issue with the dozer since we purchased it low hours.



the fuel pressure gauge that is mounted on the side of the injector pump is foggy. cannot be read. i will replace....do i have to buy this from cat? or is there a good quality aftermarket choice? i prefer to buy a lot from NAPA, heavyquip, etc.... what guage would be best for outdoor/weatherproof application? just a green to red indictor or a specific PSI range?



how does the fuel pump system work on this model dozer? is it gravity from the tank to the injector pump and then it suctions?



on this particular job....my fuel supplier has been bringing me less than clean fuel. I have replaced fuel filters each week on two machines. When i pour out the filter to inspect...its usually rusty fuel.



any help would be appreciated. thoughts or ideas?

Old dozer New owner

I have recently brought an International BTD 6 dozer - serial # 12163.

The dozer is in overall very good condition and as time permits I have been going over and checking and adjusting where necessary,changing oils and

applying a bit of grease.

Now the question. The old owner handed over some parts and a adapter to grease the track rollers.

What is the best grease for track rollers? Should I be using grease in the rollers or a heavy gear oil?

If I use grease how much per roller?




5 ton mini excavator thumb question

Hey all.



I'm in the process of building a cheap thumb to go on a 5 ton mini for a one off rock wall job.



How important would you say it is for the thumb to have some sort of curve or serrations at the end for grip, or will I get away with just leaving it flat?




Force z120 Truck Crane - AMCO VEBA Remote Not Working

Hi All,

I have a Force Z120 Crane with a AMCO VEBA remote.

The Crane works perfect, but the remote wont control the crane.

It will make the horn in the truck work so the remote has connection, but i cant make it put the revs up or down or make the crane work.

Anyone had any experiance with these? Below is a photo.

Ford backhoe 575d will not start

Hi, I'm new to the site and needing some help. I have a 95' ford 575d backhoe that cranked fine the last time I used to clean up some woods area. Today it will not turn over and I noticed on battery side of under carriage there is a wire with male and female plug hanging down. On starter side under cab area there are two more wires hanging that appear to be old, cracked and chewed up. I assumed these wires went together but arced when i tried. Has anyone pulled wires loose working in brush before . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hitachi 130 verses Deere 130 ?

I am considering buying an excavator and have spent a lot of time in the past operating early Hitachi Excavators UH series to the EX series (around 100,000hrs seat time) with very little downtime. In resent years I have moved from digging dirt to land clearing so I have lost touch with what's happening in the excavator world except that the newer series of any brands are nowhere as reliable as the earlier models so I don't want to buy new.I have heard some bad stories of the Isuzu common rail engines. My current machine is running a JD engine which is the same as what Deere runs in the 130 and have had no problems considering how hard it works( 140hp version).

I have always enjoyed operating Hitachi's in the past so am leaning that way but I would like to know the pros and cons owning and operating from others.

P.S. Where I'm currently working there is only minimal service and no agents of any brands so will be pretty much on my own in that regard.

Getting into the business.

Well I finally got the paperwork and the acceptance letter from the college for the CAT program I will be attending in the fall. I would like some advice on how to best approach building my resume more because currently it is poor and I would like to have one that makes the employers interested in my skills even at my age. What do many dealerships and private repair facilities look for in fresh graduates that have a summer internship with a limited resume? I do not want to be expecting way to much when I am almost done and begin the job search. Like what is better to have on it and what kills you as a candidate instantly.



I would like to pursue EPG, NGC, LPG and eventually complete engine and drive system rebuild/re manufacture in the future. I have a bunch of goals and ideas I would like to try but I will see how it goes first and find my niche in the field in the end. The last thing is what is the expected pay or reasonable starting pay for a new tech with two year A.A.S. degree 10 week dealer internship with a decent graduate resume? I have been told/heard starting $29-$31/USD hour then you make more with experience, skills, training and overtime.

case 1845c hydrostatic testing

I am working on an 1845c that Won't move and I could sure use some help on troubleshooting it. It's full of hyd oil and it has 100 psi supply pressure coming into large center hose on the right side of the hydrostatic pumps. How do I test the charge pump pressure?

Does anyone have info on testing the hydrostatic system or is there a place I can find it.

Track shop near Southern Ohio- Northern Kentucky ??!??

I'v got a Good spare set of chains for my 450 that I would like to have the pins and bushings turned. My problem is that I cannot locate any kind of track shop within 100 miles of me, or even further at that matter, anywhere ! When I do a google search I cant get anything to come up what so ever. Anybody Have any good track shops near me ??? Got a couple idlers I would like to have built back up too.. any info is appreciated.

Cat 785b VIMS Error

I have a cat 785b that keeps flagging up about four error codes relating to the vims and then a heap relating to temp sensor errors etc.

I have had the local cat dealer look at it several times. I have replaced the vims ecu with a second hand unit and when that one was no good i replaced it with another second hand unit (apparently this one was originally from a 793 but it is the same part number) the dealer flashed the ecu but that did not help. He told me he was having data link problems with the cat ET dropping out.

Anyone got any suggestions.

Digging below sea level 6 feet down 5 feet from shoring wall question

Hey guys im new to the forum



I got a question if u can help ?



I'm supposed to dig a pad 10 x 6 , 6 feet below grade , which is below sea level and the pad is 5 feet from the shoring wall. With that in mind i was told to cut a 1/4 slop for the side closest to the wall. Problem is knowing that I can get the other three sides good, to have ppl jump in the hole is my concern cause i know the material will just fall back in and create its own slope, just wondering wat u guys would do ?

JCB 215 Series I question on rear drive

Does the 215 2wd model have a differential lock or other button that I'm not aware of to gain 2 wheel rear drive instead of the single wheel drive when I get into a slick spot?




Air brake question

I just went through a set of front brakes way too fast, so I'm either getting too much air to the front or the back isn't performing. The fronts are adjusted loose and aren't dragging. I notice the front wheels are almost too hot to leave a hand on, while the back wheels are barely warm.

I'm assuming that whatever pressure shows on the application gauge should match what I'm getting to the back cans, but what should the pressure be to the front axle? Any diagnostic tips here?




Discontinuing the Lull

Did a overview class at work with a rental guy to refresh us on telehandlers. He mentioned that they are discontinuing the Lull brand. That's really too bad I think, cause those are some good machines. I looked and I guess 2015 will be last year of production. I guess they built so many and they just aren't selling.

I work in masonry, so I know the transverse in is very useful. Can never get good at running anything else where you have to use the boom to pull your forks out of a load. Had to run a Gradall once and I hated it, controls are just annoying. Hopefully the "older" Lulls are still around for me to use. I hate change lol. I don't even think there is anything else out there that compares to the Lull. That carriage in and out is a great feature.




Chunkers/Grizzlys

Setting up a Concrete/Asphalt recycle yard and was curious if anyone on here has utilized "chunkers or grizzly's" to help pre-screen material to help minimize time sorting it all out with trackhoe and loaders. my thoughts are to build your typical ramp and build a large chunker at the top for the dump trucks to dump over it when dropping off material. this would leave me a clean pile of larger chunks and a dirty pile with say an 8" minus. i think the 8" minus pile would be good for your subbase material or roadstones and the larger cleaner pile would be easier to meet gradation on certain products. Any Thoughts???/




L8000 Speedometer

I have an '88 L8000 with the Ford in line 6 - not that that info has any bearing on the question I'm about to pose nor the answer. Briefly, the electronic speedometer was replaced some time back and never calibrated to the truck. The speedo has 8 DIP switches on its backside and the shop manual indicates they are to be set per specs in the"Parts Service Manual". Nobody at Midway Ford (local heavy truck dealership) has a clue as to what the manual is (or was) and can only say "bring it in and we'll see what we can do". Now I know little about solid state electronics, but I do know that at some point in time a spec sheet was available that would give the switch settings for the various axle ratios, tire sizes, and etc. Anybody out there old enough to remember what I'm talking about and, more importantly, where to find specifications? I have tried numerous other Ford dealers, heavy truck repair shops and speedometer shops to no avail...




D3b bottom rollers

Just got a new undercarriage for my tractor.1983 D3B Im wondering if the bottom rollers use just bolts,or nuts and bolts to attach to the frame,I can't tell because of the rock guards.Im worried about them breaking off in the frame.Whats the best way to get the rollers off.Also the new sprockets are weld on rims,the original sprocket must be cut, what is the best way to get an accurate circle cut on the old sprockets.Looks like I could pull the center cap and make a circle cutter for the torch head.




Head up my a$$ running a telehandler

Hey guys, just found this section. Looks like nobody has posted here in a while so let me give it a whirl.



I was working on a wind farm a couple of months ago back in January. Don’t know what I did wrong, but I wound up on the storm water control team:beatsme. We were putting out waddles when the foreman told me to take a pallet of waddles up to the rock dump (a bluff where we were dumping rock and drilling mud over the cliff) as we needed to set some waddles down in the ravine.



So the guys are down below waiting for me to scope the pallet of waddles down to them and I am at the top scoping the boom down the hill. The machine has a reach of 29’. At 28’ with the load 5’ off the ground it finds the tipping point. Down go the forks, up goes the back tires:eek:.



After I get the seat cushion out of my rear, I do what any other self-respecting operator would do, I look around to see whose watching. I look behind me and there is the job superintendent, shaking his head and laughing his butt off. After I get the pressure off the boom and set the back tires back on the ground where they belong, the guys at the bottom of the hill unload about 2/3’s of the waddles and I can bring the rest back up to the top of the hill.



I must confess that when I did this, I had no idea what a pallet of waddles weighed. I mean it’s a 12”X10’ mesh sock full of wood chips, how much could 33 of them weigh anyway:confused:? Turns out that a full pallet of waddles weighs in at 4500 lbs. At full extension the machine is rated for 1000 lbs



I consider myself and the guys working around me very lucky. No one was hurt (except my pride), and the machine wasn’t broken. Even the waddles and pallet survived the abrupt decent.



Lessons learned: know the weight of the load you are handling. If you don’t know, find out. Check the load charts on the machine (they are on the machine aren’t they?) to be sure that the machine has the capacity to put the load where you need it. If the load exceeds the capacity of the machine, get a bigger machine or find another way. What I should have done here is set the pallet on the ground at the top of the hill and sent the waddles down 7 or eight at a time.

1989 John Deere 410 C BACKHOE

I can push a lot of dirt with this machine in 1st. and 2 nd. and it has lots of power ,but trying to go up a long grade in 4 th.--high gear-- it really slows down.

Is this normal or is it getting tired????

D6R torque converter going out?

The transmission temperature on my D6R has been running hot the last 1000 hours or so. On a 80-90 degree day it will get up just under the red within half an hour and then the coolant temperature will follow it. I will stop wait for 15 minutes half throttle and it will go down, but it climbs right back up. It also has more of a hesitation going forward to reverse than I think it used to. I also think it may slip the converter a little under a heavy push. The radiators were replaced recently except for the oil cooler in the center. Before I drop the converter out is there anything I should try first? The machine has 15,000 hours on it and I've only had it for the last 2,500.




John Deere 200clc 5,000 hours

Got 200clc 5,000 hours runs rough just off idle at idle seems fine, low on power and even dies sometimes. New injectors couple hundred hours ago codes come up 1076 fuel pump detected defect and 1569 fuel derate active. going to check fuel pressure but my gut tells me it is in injection pump because when it is cold runs fine till it gets temperature up.




1998 dodge Cummings diesel electrical problem

Hi guys I have a problem with my 1998 Dodge Cummings diesel 4 x 4 duly it turns over but will not start the gauge would not work when I hook the battery the fuel pump keep going with the ignition off when I turn the key on the radio work flasher weeper but no gauge I hope somebody is able to help me because I'm losing All my hair on that one thank you guys




Please Help !?!? Case 450 Dozer Shifting Hard from Low to High gears and back.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated !! I'm pulling my hair out on this one. I'v got a case 450 crawler/dozer/loader in great shape. I was running her around the farm this last weekend and out of no where she started shifting hard ( banging into gear) when going from low to high or high to low. Even at idle when I put it into low gear to move forward it has a slight hit when going into gear. I'm an above average wrench turner but am new to the hydraulics world of dozers. Any points in direction for me to look into the matter would be of great help !! On a budget and hoping its not to serious.. Thanks in advance




950g tranny problems!

i have a 2001 cat 950g that will not shift in auto everytime it shifts to 2nd gear it pops right back to first. when i do it manually works fine one thing i noticed when i change the selector 1-4 the 2nd gear does not show up on the display it still says 1st but 3&4 shows up. Has anybody had this kind of problem before also does anyone have a service manual on this 950g ser# 5fw02163 thanks in advance!

Demo bid lost, help me out

I bid on my first demo job. The house was a single story 36x26 on a crawl, block exterior walls and a car port off the back 12x20 (wood) and a few interior items. Interior walls and floor are all wood and rotten, and the roof is seriously like a 2/12 pitch. Surrounded by trees and bushes, this thing was dilapidated. Roof caving in, floor cave to the ground, been siting for 20 years. on a well and tank, with and old fuel tank for heat. I bid 5500 on the demo and removal of debris and 1500 on bringing the dirt in to level back off. Fill dirt is 2.50/ton and trucking is 8/ton(roughly).I was under bid at 4800 for everything, demo and dirt. Was my price that far off or was his that far under.

In need of a case 580C boom cylinder tube

Man, do I have a big problem. After rebuilding just about everything on the hoe side, my boom didn't want to hold up. I was hearing oil flowing in the right cylinder. This morning, I pulled the right cylinder to rebuild. Come to find out that the tube is damaged.:Banghead There is a big dent in the bottom about mid way. That dent damaged the piston real bad to were all oil was just bypassing inside the cylinder.:Banghead



Everywhere I looked on line so far, the price is over $750 and just the tube over $450 + the piston another $65. The rod is still straight and no need of replacing that.



Anybody have a hook up on a place that sells used parts? I just can't afford new at this time.

Excavator work in Alberta

Hi folks,

I've a few questions about excavation work in Alberta.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm an Irish lad moving to Calgary on a 2 year working visa in a few weeks.I have a fair bit experience of operating an excavator on my neighbour's farm.But no real site experience.I really want to get into this type of work in Canada.Is there much work in Alberta in excavator work and would it be difficult to get a start without a lot of construction site experience?I also have some skid steer experience.Would I be best of trying to get a position with a company as a skid steer operator and then from there try to get into an excavator position?I had really hoped to get more experience here before I left but there's not much in that line of work around here now.I'm 26 now and really want to start getting some good experience under my belt.

20 Ton Trailer Air Brake Diagram

I'm going to replace everything- cans, valves, lines, tank, etc.-looking for an air brake layout for the service and E brake but without ABS and an ECU.

Tool box safety talk

Hi guys,



I think I should be bringing safety more to the forefront with my crew. Trouble is I don't know how.



Like most of us, I grew up on a farm and safety was never preached. The general idea was don't get hurt. And for someone with some smarts, and a good sense of what can go wrong, it works. I have never had a serious accident over many many years running machinery.



However, more and more I am realizing that people who didn't grow up in the seat simply don't have those sensibilities. They don't realize what can happen, what is likely to happen, and what might happen in the rare circumstance. And why would they, they don't have the 40 years of training.



So I have to find a way to pass on my knowledge to them before they hurt themselves.



How do I do that? I was thinking the morning toolbox talk might be a good idea, but I really don't know what to say.



Any pointers from those who have done it?

cat 924F electrical problem

I have a CAT 924F that blows the 1st fuse on the left hand side of control panel ; it has the battery symbol above it. the wire coming out of the fuse is a yellow wire with the number 120 printed on it. The fuse blows immediately upon turning the key on. I would like to know what is on this circuit and where this wire goes to in the harness. Would appreciate any wiring diagrams anyone might have. CAT 246 Drive motor shaft removal

Hello



I have a CAT 246 skidsteer, I have a leak in my drive motor that filled my chain sump full of oil

passed the threads.



I have it out now and pulled down to the outer bearing looks like I need to press the shaft out of the drive motor case to get to the seals any thoughts on this?



I am seeing a split collar and looks like that keeps a lash adjustment on the bearing and is pressed.




Can a diesel engine "vapor lock"?

Numbers first. Cat988H S/N BXY00384 Engine C18 S/N RHX00979 Electronic Unit Injectors.



Engine starts fast in morning but when shut off for break or lunch when restarted 15 minutes later starts good then after a few seconds starts stumbling bad like it is running out of fuel then after several seconds takes off and runs great.



I was thinking it was loosing it's prime due to a bad check valve but this seems like it would be worse after setting all night. Usually it is fueled up at night but as it was parked in shop to get new temp. regulators it was not fueled up yesterday and had about 1/2 a tank of fuel, less than it would have when shut down for morning break.



While doing some checking for the overheat problem yesterday I checked for active and stored error codes and there were none.



Any ideas????




KX 91-2 swivel

I was hoping someone out there could help me with my mini Kubota. The swivel has minimal resistance, engine running or not. With the bucket off the ground, you can swing the table around in a circle by hand. That's a real inconvenience when you are working on a slope, it just swings wherever it wants to. All the pressures seem to be up and it digs just fine. I pulled the spool valve to check it and it looks good. :Banghead I need someone smarter than me. Any help would be wonderful.

Help I have a hole in my engine block on my 1835 C ! Its a gas "TM 20" continental engine. Does anyone have an extra one or know where I can get one? I'm up for a diesel conversion if someone has everything to go with the diesel engine.

Vermeer RT1250 Hydraulic Temps too High!

I know this isn't really the proper place to post a trencher issue, however I didn't see a tab for them. anyway I have a RT 1250 with trencher attachment. thing does a great job for about 2 hours then shuts down from hydraulic fluid over temp. I have changed fluid filters cleaned out the cooler very well. I am considering installing a aftermarket cooler into the system to help cool it a little better. has anyone ever done this or have any experience with these machines overheating? any help will be much appreciated! boss is on my butt about getting this ole girl fixed! thanks guys




hough h60c rear hub removal

im having trouble removing the rear hub of my old hough h60c loader to tighten the wheel bearings. I have the wheel and brake drum off but cant budge the12 studs that separate the planetary carrier from the axle.I have heated the nuts on the inside but no go.The manual says they are self locking nuts , any ideas would be welcome.




For digging rock and tree clearing 977L, 963 or 973 with or without a 4 in 1

Thought maybe there was some folks that had spent time in the 977l and then moved to newer machines. My 977l is going to be a farm machine(if I keep it). I want to dig up some somewhat soft limestone with it. Small stuff for roads big stuff for retaining walls. I just retired at 55. I have quite a bit of work on my place. I found this 1973 977L with a 4 in 1 for $8500 looks great. engine very good. I am trying to figure out if it would be a good machine to keep for the next 20 years or plan on getting a 963 or 973 latter.

Help with my Ford 1500 compact tractor

Looking for some help with my Ford 1500 compact tractor.



I bought it not running. The problem is it has a new injection pump, and the PO could not get it in time. I got the manual and have the procedure down for the timing, mostly. What I need to know is when the manual says turn the engine clockwise, is that looking at it from the seat, or is it looking at it from my stool in front of the tractor? Also if anyone could confirm that #1 is the cylinder closest to the radiator that would be helpful too.



If it helps at all it is a Shibaura LET852C engine.

Lopsided

One of the trucks that i work on blowout a air bag its a 97 Freightliner single axle tank wagon. They put a new one on it and found that something else was wrong so i was called. It had a broken ubolt so i put both in and a new spring center bolt. They needed it so when the tools were picked up it was in use. They noticed it didnt set level. There is 3/4" differents being that the side i worked on is lower. I replaced the bag on the other side it was a different brand. I let the bags down and this side the axle and frame stops touch and the other side is 3/4" apart and when you run the gaped side up on a 6x6 it dosent touch.The other side it had a broken spring when they got it about 60 days ago that i replaced and it sat level or close to it then. The front axle is almost level with the frame maybe a 1/4" differents.I looked the frame over very close and it look ok but with the tank and every thing its hard to tell if its strait.I dont like this truck alot because it looks like it started as a tractor some time ago i think and has a single frame.Any Ideals i thought about replaceing the blown air bag side spring because it was under a bad twist when the ubolt broke? The Ubolts were rusted bad were they run through the axle plate.




JD500 backhoe electrical issue I think

Was using my JD500 this morning to dig some dirt and all of sudden engine (diesel) shuts off and acts like there isn't a electrical connection to starter switch. Didn't have my volt/ohm meter to check anything . So I'm going through the JD repair manual don't see anything that jumps out at me as to what to check. Did turn lights on and they lite up. It acts as though no power to run side of switch. The only way the engine would've shutoff is power loss to fuel shutoff valve on top of injector pump. I hoping one of you all have an idea where to look. The idiot light on dash doesn't light when key is turned to On .




JD 250 --HELP!! Need Tech Manual Please

Specifically, I desperately need the section on parking brake removal and overhaul. I have a manual TM 1747 but it is good only for the earlier brake. Mine is s/n 921912. It has internal hydraulics, not the external piston like the earlier model.

Gradall xl3100

Hey guys im new here and trying to find some info on a gradall I cant find much info on them online The issue im having is that I cant start the machine from the upper cab Whenever I try to crank it nothing happens except the Orange Engine Malfunction comes on. But if you keep shutting it off and trying it again, itll eventually work. It usually takes about 15 minutes of trying. Now the schematics show the whole circuit is tied into another circuit and it just keeps cycling around. We have changed relays, switches and even changed the processor. Now when you turn the key on, in the upper cab only the let PTO light comes on Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated




JD 310SE - Sticky controls

The control levers on my outriggers stick sometimes. It's not the end of the world, but usually when I let go after raising them, the sticks don't return to center on their own, and I have to bump 'em to get them to release from the 'up' position. Any ideas what would cause this (linkage issue? hydraulic issue? something else?), and is it something that should be addressed now, or can it wait until after the summer projects are done? (Is continuing to use it like this going to hurt anything?) None of the other sticks have this issue...
