New Holland C185 Firing order?

mardi 5 janvier 2016

Hey all, Im new here, hoping i can get a little help with my new project. I bought a C185 last week that needs some TLC. Whoever worked on it before was probably on drugs. Everything is rigged up one way or another. its bad. Anyhow, it starts and idles just fine but revs up really sluggishly only to ~1700 rpm, and has no power at all. It was all i could do to load it on the trailer. First thing i did was change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure. I get 5 lbs cranking, so i think thats ok. Do to the obvious lack of mechanical knowledge of the previous mechnic, i suspect that the timing was not set correctly. So, this morning i decided to check/set the timing. I pinned the flywheel to TDC and pulled the valve covers to make sure i was on the right tdc. I was expecting #2 intake and #3 exhaust to be open indicating compression TDC for #1. But what i found was backwards. #3 intake and #2 exhaust was open indicating a 1-3-2 firing order. I went and check the book and it says the firing order is 1-2-3.
Is the #1 piston on the fan side, or the cab side? I assumed the fan side since that is the piston that is TDC when the flywheel is pinned.
What am i missing?
