2cycle oil. To add or not to add ?

I have recently heard of adding 2-cycle oil to diesel engines from a Canadian logger. He claimed lots of benefits and stated he used the cheap chain store bulk stuff at a ratio of 300:01. I asked about synthetics and he mentioned he was not a fan. Today I decided to research this topic and the web was full of info on pickup trucks and dynos etc. The mix seemed to be preferred at 175:01. I would like to know others comments on this topic.
