Car glitch.

mercredi 21 mai 2014

Yair . . . I went to start my wife's nine year old Hyundai Accent with the spare key today and it wouldn't go. All the dash lights came on and the starter was cranking fine but no banana . . . then I noticed a little "check engine" symbol on the dash.

She arrived home with the regular key about then, put it in and it fired right up . . . how does that work then?

Its just a bloody key, is there some form of skulduggery within the electronics of even a car this old that senses the batteries in the key are cactus or whatever . . . how does the key communicate with the computer?

It has been an excellent trouble free vehicle but we have just traded it and waiting for a new short wheelbase Suzuki out of Japan . . . would you believe a three month wait for a red one so she has decided on white which should be here in about a fortnight.

My query as to how the key thing works is only academic but it would be interesting to know.

Cheers.
