3204 starter and oil pressure gauge???

I put a new a new oil pressure gauge in my 931B and when I tried start it didn't have the fuel turned on so it didn't start but the starter kept turning after I let off the button. I tried this a few times and sometimes turning the fuel on to let machine start stopped the starter but other times it was still turning. Once I had to pull the battery cable off to get it to stop but when I put the battery cable back on it was fine. Any ideas what would cause this or just a gremlin I need to watch for? The starter was rebuilt a year and half ago it hasn't been used much. The oil pressure gauge I got was from IPD for $16 compared to $92 from Cat! The oil pressure gauge goes all the the way to top. I think the old one did too but this one shoots up almost instantly when I start the machine. I'm hoping this is just a sign of good oil pressure. It does drop down quick too when I shut the machine off. I guess I just need to run the machine some and see what it does when the oil is hot.
