Guys, I am helping a non-mechanic friend with his instrument cluster. It goes black for no apparent reason. Resets after battery disconnect or wire harness removal. You can get maybe two starts after that, or sometimes none. All seat and belt switches prove out good. All fuses are good, wiring harness is good through cab channel. Engine compartment fuse box good condition, relays below box visually seem ok. Is there any chance something besides the cluster is causing this? This machine has the gray trim around the gauges, not gold. I have been told I need an updated gray to gold cluster, also told that the gold is the same if it has only two mounting holes. Dealers say they cannot test the cluster, you just have to spend the 650.00. Would I dare take out the one on my LX465 and try it in the 665, or would my buddy be buying two new clusters after that????? What a "CLUSTER". DWB:eek:
