pulsating ignition switch? case 580d

My case 580d backhoe won't stay running. The key won't start the machine, but It starts when I jump the starter across the solenoid. Up until today it would run as long as the key was in the on position, but now it runs for 2 seconds and dies. It also seems to lose voltage until some relay clicks off and then resets. Any ideas? My hope is that its the ignition switch itself failing and not some dead short caused by mice or some other nonsense.
