I purchased a Liebherr 1998 631C from the original owner three years ago. It has about 5000 hours. I paid the Liebherr Dealer (Raleigh, NC) to do the 2000 hour service. After checking all the filters and the hydraulic oil tank magnet, the seasoned mechanic declared "You got a good machine." This was good to hear.
Since the 200 hour service, I'd guess that I have put maybe 100 hours on it. I use it on a hunting and fishing preserve. It has been fantastic for clearing plots, leveling barn lots, and repairing pond dams.
Yesterday, I was cruising around a 100 acre field pushing privets and gum trees over to help make better timber, and create cover and nesting sites for small game. The machine stalled like it was starving for fuel. I lowered the idle and the machine did not shut off. I repeated this a few times figuring that water was in the fuel. It would run ok for a few minutes, then repeat the problem, so I drove it 0.25 miles home at near idle and in low. Any faster and it would stall out.
After letting it cool, I drained the fuel/water separator. I couldn't see well enough to know if water was present but the machine sat most of the winter with minimal fuel in the tank so condensation likely occurred. I let it cool and ate supper. Two hours later, I fired it up and it ran perfectly for thirty minutes. Then the problem returned.
I have ordered two fuel filters. The Liebherr service manager mentioned in an email exchange that my Load Limit Valve might need adjusting. It seems more like a fuel problem to me but I haven't yet spoken to him so that he can ask questions.
My manuals are at home and I so far haven't found any information online about the load limit valve.
Advice?
