Detroit Diesel 2-71 Fuel Injectors

samedi 30 avril 2016

OK, I've got an about 1954/55 AC HD5 Loader, with DD 2-71. My question is, when researching documentation based on serial number of engine (2A20784) it seems to point to the correct injector as a HV6 fuel injector. But, when I removed one of the injectors it is a HV7. I'm replacing the injectors due to it not starting (but will with starting fluid) and I'm sure I let water build up, so my bad. Everything else seems to be OK now that I've replaced both filters and cleared the lines. I have access to 2 rebuilt HV6 injectors so I'd rather not buy rebuilt HV7 injectors if I don't have to. My basic question is can I use HV6, 5228310 injectors on this engine? I know the obvious answer seems like 'no', but I'd appreciate anyone's input on this old equipment question. Thanks.

Help, tracks loader died suddenly, boom 2/3 up

I have a New Holland LT185b compact track loader that just died in after working her for about 2 hours. She hasn't done this before.

Boom is up and I can't lock it out because the safety pin is halfway covered.

I was going in reverse to dump a bucket and the dash lights flickered and she went off fast. I heard and smelt plastic smoldering under the rear engine access hatch but it went out as I fetched a fire extinguisher.

It would not start or give me any power at all when I tried to restart.

It's dark now so tomorrow I was gonna let her cool down and then check the fuses and get a ladder to see if I can see what smoldered.

Any tips for securing the boom somehow for safety? Or for the running problem? This is my first construction machine and I use her for light ranch and gardening chores.

Thanks!

2003 JD 650H for $23K a good deal??

Hello men, new to the forum. I have truly enjoyed reading and learning from everyone here and finally decided to join. I have been unable to find any current posts related to this so excuse me if this has been covered recently. I am considering purchasing a 2003 John Deere 650H dozer from a friend. He is asking $23K for it, approx 1200 hours on the machine. I have not inspected it as of yet and would like some general thoughts and opinions on it. It feels like a reasonable price from what I can tell but researching prices on line leaves me confused. There is a large disparity on prices of these machines on line. I am going to use it around my farm and for personal use, not really considering trying to make money with it. I do not have away to move it personally and will have to have a local company move it if the need ever arises.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance guys.

Pete

It's not much but...

I thought I'd share a good week with the hallowed collective.
I finally bought and picked a used ex main dealer service body for my (old)(03) F550. Most, probably wouldn't give it a second glance but it's the best I can do, it's bought and it's paid for.
I'll upload a couple pics when I can.

Can anyone tell me what is going on with this pin? This is the pin where the safety link attaches also. I was attempting to put the safety link on and noticed it.

Takeuchi ts70 and ts80v2 opinions? vs case/mustang/cat.

So I have been considering upgrading my case 75xt non-cab unit to something with a cab. The machine I have is so well made I hate to consider letting it go with only 1600 hrs on the clock.

It gets a full days work on just 13 gallons and has done everything thing I ask of it.

Crying aside, I have begun a search for a cab unit. First I went to case and thought I was going to strike a deal right away for the sv280 or the sv300. The case dealer got pissed when I told him I was going to buy it and I would meet up with him the next week and I did not, I double checked his price and found another dealer was selling the same units for 5k less. He reworked his price and we agreed to meet on the phone the following week to sign a contract. In the process of that we were getting a farm card for the tax and the state is behind so I put him off a second time. He then got really upset and decided to go up on his price due to his boss relooking over his numbers.

Of course I did not agree to his new price and walked out.

I then went and saw cat, tak, and mustang. All machines are top of the line units with almost the same pricing.

The tak dealer took me to the tak holding area and I got to demo the new ts80v2. I got to hammer on the 70 and 80 unit. Tak had a very knowledgeable man on site to answer my questions and I grilled him.

The amount of machines they have is beyond mind boggling.

More to come...

Case parts in uk

Can anyone please let me know who deals with Case Excavator 888 and other construction equipment parts in United Kingdom. The prices of the dealers are very high. Does Case supply the parts direct to customers or we have to buy through the dealers. Or are they cheaper to buy in other countries outside UK.
Thanks in advance.

Major electrical short on ASV RC100 high flow track loader

This is my second post, where my first one was a disaster. Although I haven’t introduced myself yet, but I will. First, I am giving it another chance.
We have a 2007 ASV RC100 positrack high flow loader. The electrical system is a mess. It has been quitting in a middle of a job, not starting (jumped) and the battery has been changed more than once. The starter and alternator has also been replaced.
Now, there is a short, as the 80a fuse is frying. Removing the bolts from the chassis and uninstalling the fuse box, find A MESS! We live in an area with tons of red clay type dust and dirt, and I think this might have some affect to our problems. The outer shell of fuse box is full of dirt (dried mud). This could possibly add to the short. Can I disconnect the red battery cable, off the fuse box? We might have to replace the box.

In addition, how do you lift the arm and the cab up, without having hydraulics and power? Is there someone out there, who experienced the same problem? Please let me know!!!
I read some of the posts on skid steer loaders and we have about 90% of the same problems, except we didn’t take care of it right away. Now we are paying the price. Someone please help!

In advance, thanks ATC

Takeuchi TL140 Bucket Float Issues

I have a TL140 and the float function for the bucket works intermittently. Sometimes I can try to use it for 20 minutes or more before it finally kicks in, but once it starts working it works every time until I shut the machine down. If I immediately restart the machine it doesn't work again. I am completely stumped. Everything tests fine. It's just cantankerous.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so what fixed it, or do you have an idea of what could be causing it?

It's a great machine and it's in really good running condition. This is the only issue that I can't seem to solve! I have a lot of fine grading to do and I need HELP!!!

Thanks in advance. I defer to those more knowledgable than I.

AMI Graptor buckets

Any thoughts on these? Anyone know how much? I was wondering about the mechanism itself - think it will hold up or is it just one more thing to go wrong? It's a little more complicated than a pivot on a pin and it's exposed to more dirt but it does detach with the bucket - nice for a coupler. I probably don't even want to know how much.

new to me hough mini loader

new to the forum so glad i found it while looking for info on me hough loader i bought recently at a farm auction. the farmer who had it i have know for ever but never knew he had this thing it was in the back of a shed where it sat for 35 years untouched where he parked it after he replaced it with a mustang skid steer. he had it running he day before the action with some fresh gas and cleaning the point but o auction day it wouldn't start sounded like no compression. the day after the auction i went back to the farm and pulled side covers off the motor and got the all 4 intake valves freed up put in a new set of plugs and it made the mile long trip home without any problem. it seems to run good and everything works except the brakes. i have been looking for info on what model it is but all i can find for numbers is one stamped on the left side on top of the side where you climb in it is 2BA31764 it has a 4 cylinder wakasha and it is manual shift just forward reverse than a high low lever. sorry for the long post but i will try to get pics soon thanks for any help

Reversing control pattern on 1997 hitachi 120-5- changing from excavator to backhoe

I just bought a grey market 1997 hitachi 120-5. I learned on backhoe but it was set up on excavator style controls. I searched this site and found some helpful info but didn't get the entire answer so I wanted to post about what I learned when I made the switch.

On my machine the joystick pilot controls go through a valve block in the cabinet just behind the cab of the machine where the batteries are. On the backside of the valve block (away from the door) reverse the four lines closest to the cab in an x pattern.

Cat 966 loader shimmies very badly. Ideas?

Hi!

I am helping a friend in a remote area of Alaska -- she has a Cat 966C wheel loader, mid-70's vintage.

When she is driving it, the loader has a pronounced shimmy. When she turns the steering wheel one way or another, the shimmying stops momentarily but commences again as soon as the loader begins traveling straight again.

Needless to say, we can't get a mechanic out here to look at it -- do you have any suggestions? This lady relies on this piece of equipment for her livelihood and it's really important that she gets it running better... Your help would really be appreciated!!

Thanks!

Eric

Bobcat T740 vs T870

I am looking to upgrade my deere 322 CTL and have my eyes on these two machines. For what I do bigger is better but we have been getting by ok with the 322 which is smaller than both the bobcats I am looking at.

The 870 is a beast but it has all the emissions BS with the DEF. The 740 doesn't. I prefer the size of the 870 but the emissions stuff is scaring me away. I plan to keep whatever machine I buy a long time maybe ten years and am worried about problems down the road.

Cat 307C hydraulic oil flow

Hello,

According to ritchi specs, the 307C only has 64 l/min oil flow, compared to the Kubota kx080-3 at 144 l/min, and the Takeuchi tb175 at 138l/min: can anyone confirm this?

That's a serious difference in performance, and I wonder what limitations it might put on the 307, compared with its rivals? Does it have enough flow to power a hammer, for instance?

I've always quite fancied a 307c (offset boom), but this apparent lack of oil flow is quite concerning.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Filter swap, 51792XE wix instead of 51648

So the differences seem to be on the surface, that the 51972XE filter is a 5 micron versus 12 and its less than half of the 51648 in price, also the
local napa has to order the 51648 and has a pair of 51972XE filters in stock. Thread is the same, filter gasket is 1/10th bigger in diameter but I have
clearance, slightly lower burst pressure but all the other specs look almost the same and its a hydraulic return, more than 15psi and the light comes on.

CAT 225 vs CAT 225 LC

What are the main differences between a CAT 225 S/N 51U2607 and a CAT 225 LC S/N 51U2257?

I own a 225, and there is a 225 LC at auction this weekend that looks like a parts machine. I'm thinking about trying to get it for spare parts.

I looked at the machine, it seems to be the same thing as mine, in terms of the length of the track. Both machines from the outer tangent point of the tracks measure 14'-6". Both have 30" wide shoes. I forgot to measure the track width of the machine at auction however. I know that mine is like 10f'-9" wide.

M&B Menzies Bay Operation - "Jimmy Two Loads"

As a child my family used to camp all over Vancouver Island. I have memories of stopping to check out the logging equipment at different M&B operations during these holidays. During a trip to Morton Lake campground sometime around 1989-91, accessed from the Menzies bay mainline, we stopped to checkout the Mack off-highway trucks parked at the Menzies bay shop. I remember that one of the trucks had the name "Jimmy Two Loads" on the door / side of the truck... Does anyone out there know the story behind this nickname or have any pictures of this specific truck? I have wondered for many years if there was a good story behind the nickname.

Excavator stick help.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a long stick for a 8 ton excavator, the dimensions where it pins on the boom is- 8.5" wide, and a 2.5" pin, does anyone know what brands have this same size or smaller? Hoping I could use a Cat or deere stick, but I can't find measurements anywhere. Thanks!

So I guess what I am asking is also, would anyone care to measure the width of the stick on their 8 ton machines so I know what will work and what won't?

Price of parts

This is for the people contemplating buying a glider or rebuilding an old tractor or truck. Expect the price of parts on pre-emission engines to climb.
The company I work for has 22 gliders all powered with DDEC 4 Detroits 2004 models. This last Sunday morning we had a Horton fan hub fail and I
didn't have time to put a kit in it, so I installed a new hub. I bought it 10 months ago for $810.00. Called Monday morning to order another----------
$1,447,00, What the hell? Horton offers no remans or hub kits. Some aftermarket company has kits-but who made it.

I asked the price for a reman air compressor it to went up a good forty percent. The truck manufactures are pushing the prices of parts for older
engines up to gain sales in new rigs. Don't have a heart attack or be shocked when fixing that old Cummins, Cat or Detroit.

Best places to look for track loader

After spending too much time on this forum we can't stop thinking about buying some heavy equipment for a 400 acre ranch in Central Texas. My neighbor says there's no question a track loader would be his first purchase (road maintenance, dam maintenance, clearing, etc) and so we've been looking for something like a 953/963/973 (budget up to maybe 50k). I've been a little surprised at how much supply I see of wheel loaders and not track loaders at guys like Ritchie Brothers (582 vs 22 in North America). We're pretty convinced, if money weren't a factor, track is the way to go for our use and the terrain (rocky, steep hills, and muddy in some areas) but was hoping to get thoughts on whether current good prices on something like wheel loaders (or even dozers or excavators) may make that a better first piece of equipment to buy.

Also, thoughts on where to look for a used track loader would be appreciated (right now we're monitoring RB, ironsearch, machinerytrader, and some others we stumbled on).

Thanks

Case 580L Series 2 transmission control circuit puzzle

Hello.

My first post here. I've had my CASE 580L Series2 for 3 years and put 300 hours on it, but intermittently the shuttle won't engage the transmission, especially on first startup after sitting for a while. I think it's an electrical fault or short.

After bouncing the hoe or idling several minutes it usually kicks in and the transmission controls work fine the rest of the day.

During the problem condition, besides the shuttle not engaging, the rear work lights don't work; but if you hit the clutch button, rear work lights go on (and the fan light goes from bright to dim); if you put shuttle in forward or reverse there's no effect on work lights; if you put the shuttle in fwd/rvs while clutch button is depressed the rear work lights will stay on after the clutch button is released.

Does this all point to a common point of failure like the shuttle interlock timing relay? I know it's the odd relay out (I tried swapping around the other relays which are all identical.)

I've got 4wd and the Carraro transmission.

It may be relevant to disclose that the machine has other electrical problems such as: gauges not reading, fuel solenoid not working (manual override in place), and battery drains if I don't put move battery disconnect to OFF when the machine sits.

I have the service manual and electrical schematic, but any tips on where to start or what components to try replacing first would be much appreciated.

Good digging.
-Ryan

My 96 JCB 214 4 Wheel Drive

I am in need of suggestions to try to get my backhoe to start. At this point the engine won't turn over with the key. It does click, but more like the engine is locked up then like an electrical click.
Here is the story...I was having electric issues at the same time I busted a cylinder. This left the backhoe down while I waited to get the cylinder repaired and reinstalled. Over a period of 3 RAINY WET months, and water from a mass rain storm got in the oil (I guess through the top breather and a wide open exhaust). In my defense I acquired 81% of these issues when I got the backhoe. When I found the water in the oil the backhoe had run maybe 6 hours. I changed the oil and started the hoe again. I went inside to fetch something (about 5 mins) and the hoe had died. I couldn't get it to start again. It would turn over but it was wiping out the battery, grunting to turn over, The battery cable got hot. I discovered then that the thread on the starter was stripped. Now new starter, new battery, new battery cables, changed the oil again, also the inner and outer air filter. I jumped in the cab and turned the key. It turned over fast (yay) but it wouldn't start. My wonderful brother came to help and sprayed starting fluid in the air filter. It started and ran a couple minutes then died again. I have since learned starting fluid is a huge no no! The engine would not turn over. I was told the starting fluid probably locked it up. Another friend came and used a screw driver to the starter and got the engine to turn over. It still didn't start and stopped turning over again. He left. I tried the screw driver thing (it scares the .... out of me and it can't be a good thing to do but I did get the engine to turn over and even with the key but when I ran down primed the fuel and got back in the cab...It would not turn over with the key. Long Story Sorry!! I have been waiting for warm weather to help :(?
Any suggestions, any at all.

Compaction- Soil Density and Moisture

I am working on a taxiway project at a regional airport. The spec calls for 19" 2A sub-base, 8" FAA spec sub-base, and 6" asphalt. We dug the area out and have to compact the virgin dirt to 95%. The material is clay and is very tight but moist. The first half we dug out was able to air out for a weekend longer than the second half. We were able to get to the 95% compaction but the optimum moisture is 15%, we are getting anywhere from 17-25% moisture. All tests are with a nuclear gauge. They wouldn't approve the grade because of the moisture. We used a disc to help dry it out, and the first half we dug out the disc barely broke the surface it was that hard. We had rain in the forecast and wanted to get it covered, so graded it up and rolled it. The roller was bouncing on the grade, you literally couldn't drive straight the drum was bouncing so much. So we drove a loaded tri-axle on it and no movement. The moisture was still high but they approved and we were allowed to put on the sub-base.
-So today I put a 4" lift of stone on it. We need 100% compaction and optimum moisture is 6.9-8.3%. The material was coming in dry so we wet it down with the water truck and roll it. We got the 100% compaction but the moisture was low. It was at anywhere from 2%-4%. We wet it down some more, the water is puddling on top of the stone, the stone then starts to get mushy from all the water and the moisture percentage barely moved, but they are reluctant to allow another lift because we do not have the optimum moisture.
The tester (from a 3rd party but hired by us) says the moisture number is to allow optimum compaction kinda like a lubricant to allow material achieve optimum compaction, but we achieved the specified compaction without the moisture, but the job engineers say we need to achieve the moisture level to meet the spec.
-If we got the compaction why would we need to wet the material down just to meet the spec? Are we wetting it down just to make it wet? Won't it dry out eventually anyway? My brain tells me the water is going to go somewhere, and gravity will make it find the clay underneath, that was already to wet for their liking.
Yesterday we were trying to dry out because the dirt was way to wet, today we are spraying hundreds of gallons on the stone that is 4" above the the dirt.
Anyone been in this predicament before, or know enough to explain the logic to me? Or is it the normal situation where the engineers seem to be in out in left field?
Thanks for any input.

Tie downs who needs stinkin tie downs

Not sure what some folks are thinking when they set out on the highway? I was cruising home on the I 40 between Monterey and Cookeville TN the other day doing around 68mph. A fairly nice truck pulling a decent trailer flies by me hauling a wheeled SS, no big deal except there was not 1 tie down, nothing. What has happened to common sense, why do others feel the need to risk others lives? I could care less what someone does on their own, but when involving others I really wish some could take 1 minute and pull their head out of their a**. :Banghead:Banghead:Banghead

Dirty Hydrolic fluid

I just bought this machine and the hydro fluid is very dirty. I want to change it but what about all the fluid in the lines , cylinders, pumps , finals, etc... How do you get the entire system clean? Also is there any more return filters other than the large one in the tank? I have heard of a final drive return filter that must be changed/cleaned to stop pressure from building up in the drive motors.

Top hose to thermostat is warm, bottom hose is cold. Haven't tested thermostat yet. Figured hose wouldn't be warm is it wasn't opening.

Ideas while I wait for it?

955L 13x sprocket adjustment

Hi folks,it's been a while since I bothered the gurus with my dumb questions but that just means everything has been running pretty smoothly.BUT,my right roller frame got loose and then I noticed my final started leaking a little. Now I'm putting new bolts and all in the frame and I'm hoping to tighten the sprocket some and stop the leak but my manual doesn't tell me how to do it.Does anyone have a link to some directions? I know it's fairly simple but I like to have it figured out before I start. Thanks for any and all help.

PC120-6 - oil in the bell housing?

Just had a customer call asking how much oil should be in his bell housing. I kinda laughed and said none but he didn't laugh. He has a kid working for him that said it's supposed to be up to the check plug on the side.

I'm not an excavator expert but I've never worked on one that's SUPPOSED to have oil in there. Is there such a thing or is his rear main leaking like I assumed?

So I got a text this afternoon...

I got a text from a guy that I had gave a estimate on digging out some stumps and clean up work around his horse farm. He asks if I am busy, I was but it wasn't anything I couldn't put off for a while. Anyhow, he asks if I can pull out a mini excavator, it's not to terribly far from me so off I go. Partially to see the show, and the biggest part was the $$$$. So this guy is trying to bush hog a field, gets the tractor stuck, rents a mini ex, to retrieve the tractor, calls me to retrieve the mini, his tractor, and the bush hog..... Well I got them all out, only broke 1 chain and it was his. Now if I could figure out how to get my pics up side right!!! Case TR320 No Start

Pushing into a pile today my Case shut off. Cranks fine, but still no start. Filters are new and it was running fine.

With the power button on, I have no power to the post on the fuel solenoid shut off and no power to the electric fuel pump. Is there a relay or fuseable link the solenoid is hooked to? It's an E/H machine if that matters.

case 1845c planetary help

Have a bad planetary on an 1845c. Wondering what guys that have had to replace them have done? Case wants 2,600 for a remanufactured one. The planetary its self is what is bad. (bearings in the 3-gear head out and messed up some teeth) the case and all is good. Anyone have a machine shop or something make parts to repair? Or does anyone have a machine they want to sell for parts? Looking for options here. Someone drained all the oil (or it leaked, or was starting to go bad) and it was filled with grease.

Volvo L120B transmission problems

I recently lost 2nd gear on my L120B. The screen on the dash shows that the shift lever is in 2nd, but the trans shows that it is in first. So basically 1st is 1st, 2nd is 1st, 3rd is 3rd, and I haven't tried 4th since this problem showed up. I should mention when the machine is off but the key is on and the shift lever is in 4th, the screen reads FA and the transmission reads 1st gear.

The solenoids for 1st and 2nd gear all read 43 ohms. When I checked the voltages at the solenoids in second gear, it is energizing the same ones as first, so I think my solenoids are fine, but something is telling the transmission to be in first gear. Any ideas?

Komatsu PC200-3 hydraulic line?

I just bought a 1989 Komatsu PC200-3 excavator. It runs well but needs a little TLC. There is a hose that runs from a tank in the area of the hydraulic pump. The line runs down the boom to about 2 feet above the bucket. The end looks like an air line quick connector. The other end enters the side of the pump area behind the cab.

Any ideas what that would be used for? Can I remove the lines and cap the ends? Remove the tank off the door panel?

Case 580K backhoe driveshaft/transaxle question

I am looking at a 1990 Case 580K, 2WD backhoe to buy.

I crawled underneath to check out what I could. I grabbed the driveshaft and found there was some movement at the junction of the transaxle. It is not the universal joint. That is tight.

Is this something that is serious? If there is a splined shaft that is sticking out of the transaxle, then it is a "collar" that is worn, not a bearing out in the transaxle, right?

Thanks.

Jim

Glittery hydraulic oil Deere 644E loader

So the new to us wheel loader has a brake fault and some glitter in the axles, the brakes are shot in the front and disconnected in the rear. Recently after running it a day or two, when not yet fully warm, the 'Hydraulic filter' light flicked on but would go off above idle, I changed the filter, easy enough to do but when draining it, as soon as the oil had some depth, in the sunlight I could see some glitter reflecting back, nothing I could feel but I could see it. The oil filter light was out for a few days but flicked back on again, should I keep changing the filter? unknown hours on the old filter, didn't look horrible.

It looks like the unit also has at least a front diff lock, is it possible that oil from the diffs is mixing with the hydraulic oil? Are there any measures besides regular filter changes to get the oil cleaned up? I run a bypass engine oil filter in my trucks, something like that ever used on hydraulics especially with a large volume system? I'm thinking of adding a magnet, maybe in the tank on the side in case the particles are steel/chrome/iron.

Soon we will be having the tires serviced and also fixing the brakes and changing all the axle fluids.

Thanks again, what a learning curve.

I can see the small diesels being OK in 6,000 to 6,500 lb. machines......that 74.3 HP (or whatever) might be fine. Seems to me that the 7,000, 8,000 and 9,000 LB. and up machines could use some serious up powering. I see that even Case which has not been shy about adding DEF to their bigger machines, and therefore have no need to observe the 75 HP threshold................still don't get much above 80 HP. Why not 100 or even 110 HP? I'd love to get beyond skid loaders that stall out :)

D100XR backhoe question

I have picked up an 87 case trencher with only a front grader blade and rear D100XR backhoe. The backhoe is making a loud noise when only lowering the boom. The sound seems to be coming from a 2 port valve that is bolted to the cover on the swing gear. I have looked any many other pictures of this backhoe and have not seen one picture with this same valve. Attached is the picture and I hope someone on here will be able to tell me what it is, thank you.

225b excavator drive motor leak

Hi, I use an old 225b excavator that has developed a leak in one of the hydraulic drive motors. There is oil coming out the breather on top. For a start just a drop here and there but now a near constant stream.
Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this situation- is this a simple fix or a complete rebuild for the motor? Serial no. Is 51u 4464.
Thanks in advance, John

Math question... oval track

lundi 25 avril 2016

Putting in a 1/4 mile oval track for bikes and can't find dimensions but figured someone on here would know how to figure it out. If the straights are 400' long each, what radius would the inside corners need to be for a total of 1320'? Is there a simple formula if the length of the straights were altered and what would be the easiest way to lay it out? I found dimensions for a 1/2 mile oval but not 1/4 mile. Thanks in advance.

Used heavy equipment.

Recently I bought ten acres of undeveloped land on which I plan to build a house and shop.

For my initial work I plan to rent a piece of equipment or two to do my clearing and grading.

After I get settled in I plan to clean up the rest of the property.

Is it possible to find a Cat 955 or similar sized track loader in decent shape for under $10000? How about a old cat D8 or D7?

I may be able to purchase a old Cat D8G 15A in the fall reasonable from someone I know. Granted the D8 would be overkill but I know the history and issues with the machine.

Removing Excavator Thumb

We are looking into putting on a thumb, most likely hydraulic, on our 25 ton excavator. The estimated thumb weight is about 1500 lbs so I'm wondering if there is a way to conveniently remove it to gain 1500 lbs lifting capacity?

6-way skid steer blade hydraulic hose connections won't connect

I have a New Holland compact track loader with a CAT dozer blade I use with it sometimes. Today I went to connect and use blade and the 2 hoses from the blade won't press over and connect with the boom hoses. It's as if there is pressure in the boom side of the hoses and they wont let the blade hoses insert. I cycled machine on/off a few times and also moved and released the hydraulics but it didn't change anything.

Has anyone had this happen before? The connections and blade worked just fine a couple of weeks ago.

I was going to let it sit overnight and see if it works then. Maybe it will slowly bleed down over a few hours.

I don't have a bleed down switch or anything like that on my New Holland. Thanks for the help if you may have a tip.

Air in Hydraulic Fluid

We had a cylinder blow out a couple days ago and now it looks like we may have air trapped in the hydraulic fluid. Here's the story. Last week while I was out of town I got a call that the dozer blew a lift cylinder seal, no big deal just have it rebuilt, which they did and reinstalled it. Due to rain the dozer couldn't be ran or the tank topped off. When I got back I topped the tank off and brought the dozer to the house to do a few other repairs which didn't envolve the hydraulics. Yesterday my helper finally got to run it for about 4 hours. Today I went to check things out and noticed that the oil in the sight glass looked "milky". My first thought was water in the oil but now I'm thinking air bubbles. I took a sample off the bottom and top of the tank and both looked identical. Also the tank level was the same as when he left the shop with it. The dozer has only been run about 5 hours since the cylinder rebuild. Wondering if air got in the system and if so how to remove it. I did check the tank vent today also, it was dirty so I cleaned it. Dozer runs and operates fine the oil just looks milky. Dozer is a Case 850G and is being used to clear brush on the ranch. Sorry for the long post.

Deere 120C misfire at idle and low load

(Note, I called the problem a misfire because that is what I think it is, but my assumption may not be correct).

Hello,

I am experiencing a problem periodically with my Deere 120C (2003 model). The issue is that sometimes (now, with increasing frequency) when the engine is at idle or under very low loads the motor doesn't run smoothly. I can feel that the engine is running roughly and there is an audible difference in how it is running (I think of it as "chugity chugity chugity" as opposed to a normal "whirrr" sound). When I put the motor under load (digging or moving, etc) the engine runs as normal. As soon as I stop digging for a moment it will revert to the rough feeling/sound.

I changed the air filters, oil, oil filters and fuel filters about 50 hours ago or so. I checked out the engine the first time this happened and everything seemed fine.

I am not sure if it is coincidence or not, but it seems to happen more often when I am facing up hill on a slope. This has lead me to think that maybe there is some contamination in the fuel or something that is getting mixed up and effecting the performance of the engine.

Anyone have any ideas on what the issue may be or have any thoughts on how to diagnose?

Thanks!

Chris

MEC 2033 motor controller

Hey all,

I have a MEC 2033 scissor lift. Found that I need a motor controller, but the original number which is a Sevcon SC1000 with a MEC part number of 8539 which is not available from what I've found. It is a 24 volt system and the controller that is shown is a 250 amp one. Question is, can you put either a higher amperage rated motor controller protected by a 250 amp fuse? I've been looking at some Curtis ones and am fairly sure I can cross reference the pinouts to get it working if this is possible. I've heard that you can, and it actually runs much cooler but I just wanted to see if anyone else has attempted this before. Thanks for any information. :notworthy

963B with blowby 9000 hrs. Advise pls

I bought a state owned 963B that has a fair amount of blowby, the machine has approx 9000. I bought the machine for a pretty discounted price, knowing it had this issue. Any suggestions on what route to take on correcting this? Or run it until to much loss of power & oil consumption? It's a 3116 Cat motor of course, don't know past history.

Thanks men!

Aftermarket sprockets

I have a 1985 sumitomo s160 excavator and can't find sprockets for the tracks. It also is labeled in the cab as an Ls 1600 fj2 which is a link belt model of the same machine. I found one place where they could get sprocket for the link belt model but they are listed as 12 bolt and 18 teeth and my excavator has 12 bolts and 23 teeth. Not sure if they would still work or not. Trying to find a way to get them by using measurements and not by the model. Any suggestions. Thanks

Late 60's MF2200

Hi All,

I recently purchased a late 60's MF 2200 TLB. I paid less than scrap, and it runs and drives, all the hydraulics work. There is a knock in the motor, and I would like to tear it down to investigate. It's a Perkins AD3.152. I'm looking for some advice on a few fronts...

I don't have a garage big enough to park the whole unit under. If I remove the hoe and front end loader, I could fit it in my garage but I imagine removing the hoe would be a real pain? In order to investigate the knock, I would have to at the very least pull the oil pan. Is an in-frame rebuild worth it or should I just pull the motor? I realize this means splitting the tractor... I could remove the front end loader, and get the tractor within a few feet of my garage door so I could pull the motor in on the hoist... To complicate things a bit more, I have a gravel driveway.

In my area cheap backhoes aren't plentiful, so I would like to revive this one. Any/all advice is appreciated

Has anyone rebuilt a JD 450C Transmission/final drives?

I have an early 450C. Farm use only. Over the years, I've replaced many parts, injection pump, clutch, hydraulic pump/valve, tracks, rebuilt blade, etc. Runs great, but it has reached a point, where adjusting the clutch/ transmission is not doing any good. The trans is tired.
With a service manual, is that trans something that can be tackled by a guy whos never done one? Is it worth the cost? Or just part out the dozer and buy another one?

Thanks for any input.

Vertical Lift or Radial Lift

Been looking at getting myself a small CTL for work (grooming MX track and MTB jumps ect) and i really cant tell which to invest in.

Currently my options are the Cat 239D (Radial) and the Cat 249D (Vertical).
The work load will be split between doing short distance movment of dirt/grading and filling up trucks. Most of our work is done using excavators but we still need a good option for moving lots of dirt quickly and making the most of all the other fancy gadgets out there (angle broom, forks, backhoe (maybe), brushcutter, ect).

So, radial or vertical lift?

Oil analysis questions...?

So the issue is, I bought a 2015 Bobcat S630 (Doosan 2.4l) and just did the 3rd oil change and there was still metal in the oil. Not peices or anything just very fine metal suspended where you coul see the pattern as it drained and if you swirled it with something. I have 2 weeks left in warrenty so took it to the dealer to have them document and decide what to do. I changed the oil at 60 hours, 170 & 280. The oil had about 30 hours on it when I took the machine in. They changed it and say the oil didn't have any metal in it and they cut the filter open and it looked fine.

What would an oil analysis tell me in this case? I'm thinking it would be well worth having done if it will help me document a potential serious issue? I don't think i should still see anything in the oil after the second change at most. I also have my doubts that the oil they drained didn't have any metal in it given how obvious it was on the third change. I did save all my oil filters as a precation.

Thoughts?

case 580k dipper cykinder

Any tips on how to handle a very leaky gland seal on the 6" diameter dipper cylinder. Can it be done on the machine? I have to replace the extendahoe hoses too and thought if I slid the extendahoe section off I could tilt the dipper cylinder up enough to do the seals while the barrel of the cylinder is still on the hoe? Sound reasonable? I just did the clam cylinder on the loader, it was a 3" and I had a hard time with the gland nut so any tips on getting the gland nut off the 6" cylinder? I used a very large pipe wrench for the 3" but I do not think it will work for the 6". Don't want to spend $100 plus for a gland wrench.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

High Pitch Noise - Just when extending or retracting - JD 510

Hello gentlemen... first off, thanks in advance for any and all comments, everyone is always helpful on this site.

I am have a small issue with my John Deere 510 Backhoe/Loader.

Everything seems to be working fine, well, fine enough for a nearing 40 year old machine, but I have recently been getting a high pitch noise, almost like a squeak when I extend or retract the boom and/or dipper on my backhoe. Left or right of the boom is fine, up and down with the bucket is fine.

Also, no sounds on the loader side so I don't think there is anything up with the pump.

So, I am thinking that maybe there is a piece of garbage in the valves or o-rings getting ready to fail?? No leaks are visible.

Anyone ever run into a similar issue?

Cat 320d2 or sumitomo sh210-5/6

Hi, I am planning to buy a 20 ton excavator very sooner. But confused which one to be purchased. I already have 320B (1XS series) machine and had very bad 👎 experience with engine/hydraulic system etc. But Here (Sri Lanka) the CAT dealer (UTE) helped us a lot even personally & now runs greater than before.
As my research,
Komatsu & Kobelco starts troubling after 6000 hrs & recently Sumitomo also has a good market but no any time to reviewed, but as a Japanese manufacturing machine operators say runs greater than Komatsu & Kobelco. From recently CAT 320D2 also getting popular. But the owners of 320D series had some problems related power train with fuel consumption .
Mu question based on following.
1). Rumours says SH210-(5 or 6) ISUZU engine not as reliable one?
2). 320D2 is rougher than SH210?
3). Second market value?
4). Dealer service?(here Sumitomo dealer services also could be satisfied)?
5). Price difference nearly SLR2,000,000 (14000USD). CAT is the higher?
6).Fuel consumption?
Plz advice me which one is suitable for quarry, road construction works also?
Thanx best regards..

LG Montana 4340 bucket problems

Hi everyone, newbie here, both to the forum and tractors in general.

The wife and I were at an estate sale a couple of months ago and purchased a LG Montana Tractor 4340 to help maintain our 115 acres. With the full cab, heating and air, it seemed perfect for me. It seemed to run and operate good so we bid and won the bid for it. After having it delivered though I started noticing things that I failed to see at the auction.

Bad battery (minor, replaced), bolts missing from the left front corner of the skid plate(?) to connect to the frame (minor, replaced) but to me, a major item, three grease fittings missing from the left side of the bucket on the arm. The holes were filled with grease so it wasn't till I started to do my initial PMCS on it that I noticed. Replacing the fittings was easy, nothing wrong with the threads and the new fitting went right in, but, the bucket hangs about 1 1/2 inches lower on that side. Trying for a flat scoop is impossible as the bucket corner just digs in and makes a mess of everything. The hydraulic piston measures out the same length on both sides so I don't think that's the problem.

Might anybody have a suggestion of what I can check for. Can't take it in to have it checked, it was either a truck and trailer (to haul a tractor) or the tractor, and I really needed the tractor to get things done around here.

Thank you

Hey all. Been a while sense I've posted here. Want to thank you all in advance as their is a lot of smarts floating around here and I appreciate the help. The machine runs great. I havent dug into it too deep as I'm on the hunt for a electrical schematic to get a good base before I just start digging in. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks all.

850D case dozer transmission trouble

I have a 1996 850D Case Dozer that was recently serviced by a "certified technician." Problems with the dozer is it would go in reverse but it wouldn't pull. The "technician" has pulled the dozer apart and it still isn't fixed.. Any suggestions on what to check would be appreciated. Here's what has been done so far....he took the reverse clutch out, replaced the ring that holds the clutch pack. The clutch pack housing was busted. He replaced the housing. Now you can switch the dozer in reverse and it won't pull, then when you press the gas pedal it won't move into reverse. You can let off the gas and then press the pedal and then it will go, still seems very weak. It will go into forward and pull in forward when using the levers and turn in forward with no problem. The problem is isolated to reversing. My thoughts are the problems are in the valve body. Does anybody have any info on how to run a pressure test on this model dozer or any suggestions on what to try next?

Terex PT100G AC short

samedi 23 avril 2016

If it might help anyone doing a search for this particular problem, I spent the better part of three hours finding why a customer's Terex PT100G was popping the fuse for the AC system. I raised the cab and checked all I could get to and finally found the problem to be two spots which were intermittently direct shorting. One was behind the left lap bar stop (stop had a sharp edge), and another behind the right seat slide. As I couldn't cut and splice repair the harness, I zip tied a split piece of heater hose around the affected areas and pulled them out of danger.

Ihi 35j

Hey guys, just picked up a '00 IHI 35J, she's got about 4,000hrs on the clock but seems to run quite well. What I'm asking about is the parts situation, and the reviews of the machine itself. I pick this one up the end of next week, and with a few quirks that need to be worked out, it seems to be a pretty good deal for $12K. The parts that I need are a main boom pin, possibly bushings, and bucket pin and bushings. Are these a part that are readily available, or is some searching going to have to be done? Also does IHI use a brand hydraulic pump commonly found over here in the states? thanks for your help guys!

Best throttle position?

Wondering if 3/4 to 7/8 throttle is better for all systems on the machine verses maybe 1/3 throttle? Will things run cooler at a higher rpm rather than straining at a lower rpm? Does this make sense? I always operate slowly and deliberately even when I need full power for something heavy (pool steps) Where is a good place to keep the throttle on a regular basis?

Thanks to all

Case 9010B Controls Not Unlocking

Hello All-

Ok, myself and mechanics are frustrated as can be! This problem has been posted before, and there have been a few solutions suggested, but we are still not fixed! I'll try to outline the problem:

- When you drop the 'dead man lever' (not sure if that's what it's actually called, but don't know what else to call it!), the 'lock' on the display would stay lit up, and there would be no hydraulics at all This has been an intermittent problem since I have had the machine, approx. 10 years. Very sporadic when it would happen. Sometimes the 'lock' would disappear in a few minutes and I am good to go, sometimes not for 15 minutes, sometimes, like right now, it will not unlock at all!

- We have tested solenoids, changed relays, checked ground wires and changed the pilot filter. No luck! When we switched one relay, the 'lock' now disappears on the display, but still no controls.

- Now, by total chance, we find that when machine is in 'fine' mode, everything works!! And, the dead man lever is not even down. What on earth could be causing this?

Our next step is to find a wiring schematic to try and isolate where a wire may been broke. Does anyone have a wire schematic, or know where I can find one?

We are desperate!! Any help or advice at all would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance....

Breaker for a Backhoe

Hello everyone!

I'm getting ready to tear out a old slab (no rebar, about 2 foot footings) and remove a well pit. I purchased a Harbor Freight Jackhammer b/c all the good reviews but the job is going too slow.

I called a local tool rental place that has a backhoe with breaker attachment for a good price. They even said it only takes about 5 minutes to change between bucket and breaker.........this sounds too good to be true but after an afternoon with the Jackhammer I need something with more horsepower.

Has anyone here changed these attachments before? Should I look for a certain brand of hoe? (John Deer, Case, ect)

Thanks!

Hydraulic fitting turns too far.

Sorry I don't have any pictures at the moment so this may be confusing.
At some time in the past the 90 degree fitting on the boom of my backhoe was turned too far. This fitting eventually leads to the ram that controls my bucket. On one side of the machine the fitting points downward and the hose runs under the pivot point. On the other side the fitting points back and up and the hose runs over the the arm pivot, causing the hose to rub on the pin. Of course this led to wearing a hole in the hose, also the hose was bent into an awkward 'S' shape instead of a nice gentle single arc like the other side so I think that it is not correct. I have replaced the hose and I want to turn the fitting to match the side that didn't look like an 'S' or have a hole. The 90 degree fitting in question isn't a two part fitting like the hose, it is a single piece that threads to a 'bottom out' with an O ring. this fitting threads into a piece that has a big nut on it and I thought that tightening this nut a lot would pinch the 90 fitting and lock it in place but it does not. the fitting remains sloppy loose unless I bottom it out which puts me back into the hose rubbing scenario. I could just tighten it down and resign myself to replacing the hose again soon but it seems to me that if the torque on the 90 is all that keeps it from turning then it is just a matter of time before it loosens itself anyway.

What am I missing here? I can't get to the fitting that the 90 threads into because it is a steel line inside the arm. the only things I can put a wrench to are the 90 and the nut and the two don't seem to have any effect on each other.

If the 90 had a good new o ring, can it be left loose? that sounds ridiculous to me, but I don't know how else I can get the hose to run the 'right' way.

Hello, my name is Josh. I was just assigned to this 2006 copco F9 and am drilling through some really hard red stuff in Pennsylvania right now. She's got a 2550 top hammer with t51 steel and turning a 4 1/2" button bit. I noticed the steel had a lot of vectors vibration and wobble to it than normal(accumulators are freshly recharged and replaced). So I turned my settings up a bit all the way around to stabilize things a bit. I was hoping someone here could provide me with a definitive on whether or not this hammer can take this sort of beating without damaging anything. Keep in mind I would rather not risk the striking rod, but I'm also on a tight schedule and a striking rod is not a blown hammer so I'm ok with that. Specs listed below.

Atlas Copco Roc 2550 top hammer
High impact pressure: 210 bar
Low impact pressure: 140 bar
High feed: 70 bar
Low feed: 40 bar(any lower and the hammer dry fires)
Rotation torque: 30-50 bar
Dampening: 50-55 bar

Thanks for reading.

3208 governor question

So this is probably more of an engine question than a excavator one. I have a 87 229 Cat. I recently installed a 3208 that was taken out of a highway truck. Everything is good except the throttle control(revs up until I load the hydraulics and then drags down and almost dies. When we stop using the hydraulics it revs back up again.)

I assume it is some sort of setup issue in the fuel pump. Would a highway setup have a different governor setup? Can I adjust it somehow? I see what looks like a governor control on top of the injection pump. any help is greatly appreciated.

Pictures Wanted! The Biggest Heavy Equipment You Ever Worked on!

I don't know if this has been done before or not but I think we should have a forum with pictures of the BIGGEST heavy equipment you ever worked on! Lets see those mining shovels, trucks etc. Pictures are appreciated though because like fishing and hunting stories the size increases with every story told!

Here in southern Ontario there's not that much huge equipment but Ill get us started with a recent project. Assembling container handlers.

Cat 953 Doesnt move SOMETIMES

I have a 1998 Cat 953 (2ZN02121)that runs great most of the time, but sometimes on start up it will not move in either direction. I can shut it down & leave it & come back later or the next day & it may or may not move. When it moves, it runs great like it was a new machine. When it doesnt move, I dont know what to do other than leave it alone. Any ideas?
