Komatsu pc300 - 7 problem

Hi new to the forum, hope I'm posting in the right section . I'm own a 04 pc300 komatsu excavator and it's ran fine up until yesterday when it stopped working right before it broke down the two little hoses that go to the quick conect on the bucket I had them looped because I have no quick conect but we do demo and it kept getting stuck on rebar and stuff like that and getting broken someone suggested to just block them off so we did after I did this the machine ran for 4 minutes and all the hydraulic movement stopped machine stayed on but it was as if the safety lever was on. It's been like that ever since sometimes In The morning I turn it on and works fine for like 4 minutes again and it does the same the controls loose pressure and all stops working slowly till it stops can I plz get some help with this it would be greatly appreciated. Has new hydraulic fluid right level all filters are clean and new including inline high pressure filter also my hydraulic control valves have no power exempt for one the first one that comes on and off when I pull on the safety lever.

Safely hauling a skid steer

Hi,

I recently purchased a bobcat 843 skid steer it weighs 6500#. I've never towed anything over a couple thousand and need to know how to safely do it. I'll be using my 2002 duramax 3/4 ton truck and renting a bumper trailer (not sure on length or weight yet but the local rental store uses it to tow their mini excevator). I have a gooseneck hitch but cannot find a gooseneck trailer to rent. I also have a brake controller installed in the truck. I would appreciate advice about how to load/balance the trailer properly, how to set the brake controller, what hitch receiver i should purchase and any other tips you can think of. I did try to search the subject but didn't find many relevant results. Thanks in advance.

Case 580L Backhoe No forward or Reverse

I am new to the forum and just picked up a Case 580L 4wd Backhoe. I got it for a good deal. It runs great and the hydraulics are strong. However, it does not move. I found a thread yesterday that I cannot find now, but It had some information on the topic that I used. It had a print out of three test ports on top of the valve body. To start I tested my forward and reverse solenoids. They are both clicking, the reverse alarm is working and they both have power going to them when they should. I then used the print out I got off the other thread and checked the test ports. Of the three ports I only got fluid out one (the one closest to the driver side). Nothing out of the other two. Any ideas on this? Also, I pulled the back cone shaped cover next the the forward and reverse solenoids to check the circle clip they say is known to break. When I pulled it off the springs came out along with the dowel looking piece located in the springs. However, There is a piece stuck in the bore that is keeping me from seeing the circle ring? Any ideas on this? Also, what is the orange plug for on the top rear of the transmission? It says oil on it.......Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance.

Small track loader vs CTL over all cost

caterpillar 515 diff lock

4lr578 winch machine diff locks haven't worked in awhile. A few wiring issues and got the solenoids working. Could'nt build pressure on front or back circuit. oil levels were right 50 weight oil about 30 degree air temp. Rear circuit filter bypass stuck. Front circuit front section of pump inoperable housing scored from front rear failure in the past. Install new pump and filter housing pressure looks good rear pressure hose has slight vibration but thought might of been acceptable. Diff locks work for short time and quit. No flow out off pump. Disassembled new pump back section welded gears to shaft and ground housing down. Looks like heat damage and when back section locked up broke and front section broke a gear. So built a used pump from the two. Installed and back section pressure hose between filter and pump vibrates pretty bad. Got new suction hose and seems a little better but not enough good oil flow from suction fitting at bottom of rear. Both front and back section of pump seem to be getting warm really fast. And fluid at filter housing seems airated. Both pressures stay at 375psi right at pump out let and on lines going in to the rears. Any ideas welcome

CAT 312B Water Pump

Hi all, I have this machine on an island in the Bahamas. Last time I was out there the water pump started to squeal a little. I noticed it was loosing a bit of water as well. I have looked on line and found that the pump has a bearing in it. Questions- is it easy to change bearing i.e any special tools etc.............if bearing has gone would it leak water or have I got a leak else where?

I didn't have time to look at it much before I left last time as it started when I was parking up the machine to come back to the UK.

Any help would be much appreciated....Cheers

Apps or programs for recording blading

lundi 30 mars 2015

OK, this thread is probably more for those that work for public entities...... but my question is. Does anyone know of an app or computer program that they use to record which roads they have done and when or is everyone doing this manually ( with spreadsheets or such). Nothing worse than Joe Public telling you that you havent been on their road for over a month when you do it every couple weeks. Would be nice to not have to go to the office and dig out the paperwork to stick it in their face, but dont have room for months of paperwork in the blade either.

3176 only starts with ether

Have a customer truck in the shop and trying to figure out a no start issue.

Truck cranks like crazy but won't start unless it gets a sniff of ether.

Doesn't matter whether it was running and shut off for only a half second. Always needs ether.

When it is running, it runs fine and it will run all day until shut off.

Getting active injector current faults on all 6 injectors while running.

Cylinder cutout test works fine.

It's a 1992 7LG 3176

All this is leading me to think that the ECM is shot. Which is weird since I can connect to it and it does run.

Have not installed sight glass in fuel system since I don't think it would lose prime that fast. Plus when I pump the primer hand pump it's stiff right away.

I have checked the timing sensor. It is receiving and sending proper voltage during no crank and cranking conditions.

Any other opinions?

Where to buy grouser bar

It seems that finding grouser bar is as scarce as hens teeth. I have looked extensively on the internet and they just want to give you the names of their dealers after you contact them. I've contacted two local equipment dealers and they're little to no help. Where can one just go on the internet and buy some? I've even checked the local steel supplier. I need just a little over 100 feet of 1" bar. I would prefer to have it sent to me already cut into 16" lengths but I will cut it myself if need be.

Case CX14 low/no hydraulic power

Hello all, I'm in need of some help from the experts on this forum. My brother has a 2004ish? Case CX 14 mini which has sat pretty much unused over the winter and when he went to use it the other day it has barely any hydraulic power. We have a repair manual, but I'm not very familiar with hydraulic systems, so here I am looking for help.

The bucket will uncurl a very minimal amount and the house will try to rotate, but that seems to be about the extent of what it will try to do. The arms/blade/tracks don't seem to do anything. Since some operations will move a little I don't believe it to be the locking switch in the arm rests.

I've checked the strainer filter and it wasn't clogged and there didn't seem to be any debris in the hydraulic tank. Pilot valve tested and was right at the 500 psi called for.

I've going to check the other pressures at the main control valve. Is there anything else I should check or test before that? I'm at a real loss as to how it worked fine in the fall/early winter and now doesn't really do anything.

Thanks in advance for any help!

MF50H First start up of the year.

I'm not much of a poster on here, but I check in a couple times a day to read as much as I can to learn. A year and a half ago I bought a Massey Ferguson 50H from a local guy. This is my first tractor and first piece of yellow equipment. I bought it to do some things around the property I own and also assist with simple dirt tasks when I finally prepare to build my home. So far I have used it to move some stuff around the property including a spare Cummins diesel engine my dad has for his 1937 Mack BX. Most of the time it just sits parked and unused while I wait for my planning to get all in order. I probably shouldn't have bought it when I did, but I got it at a very good rate and didn't want to pass it up. It was one of those right place at the right time deals. Since I live in Central New York and the same snow that fell in early December is still on the ground I haven't done anything with it. Today was a sunny day and about 35*, so I figured I might as well throw some batteries in the ol' girl and see if she wanted to play. After getting some good batteries (most of the ones I have are plenty of years old and don't owe me anything) charged up, she cranked a couple times and fired right up. Smoothed out instantly like she was just run yesterday. I had mentally prepared myself for much more of a battle, so needless to say I was very relieved. Diesel engines always impress me with their reliability. I know many of the members on this forum run equipment year round or professionally, but for me the MF is just a tool or a toy I splurged on that I try to keep in the best shape I know how. Hopefully in the next few weeks the ground will actually begin to thaw out and I get some work done. Welp, hope everyone else enjoys the warmer sunny days as they slowly start to trickle in.

rhode island hoisting engineer exam telehandler question

My company is sending me to take the exam and do far nobody else has passed the test at my company. When I asked what I should really study up on they said the hardest thing was you had to know specifics about certain machines. They said their are questions asking about JLG, skytrax, terex and lull 644 and 844. I just don't understand why the questions would be machine specific? Are they just misunderstanding these questions? I understand what the numbers mean on these machines, like a jlg 1044 lifts 10,000lbs and can extend 44ft in the air. I'm wondering if the questions are answered knowing that bit of information? I understand reading a load chart, safety, signals all that but I'm getting tripped up on what the others in my company are saying. Does it make sense to you that it would be machine specific? They only mentioned jlg like there's only one jlg telehandler but there are like 7or 8. That goes for the other companys. It doesn't make sense you would have to know the very specifics of say 40 different telehandlers

General Newbie Question..

Hey folks,

I am not sure if Im in the correct section but this is a general question. I would like to get into diesel mechanics...briefly, my professional background consists of aviation mechanics. I have been doing that for the past 8 years. So, would I be able to transition into diesel or heavy equipment mechanics? I do have heavy background experience in hydraulics and pneumatics repairs. Would I have to attend a trade tech school? Are these two different worlds even remotely similar? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks..

Ditch Witch R65 won't move forward while trenching

I have a Ditch witch R65 with the backhoe and trencher attachment. When I select the creeper gear to do some trenching the machine moves forward and intermittantly makes a loud poping noise and seems to lose forward momentum for a second. Its worse in hard ground. I pulled the seat and tin off around the tranny and can't find anything slipping while it is moving. Any thoughts, I'm at a loss.

1845c chain drive issues

2000 model with 2900 hrs. It started making knocking noise so I proceeded to tighten chains. The noise went away for a short time period. It came back a week ago so I brought the machine back to my shop and tighter the chains again. I put the tires back on and the knocking continued and then it started to act as if the brake was grabbing. I had a employee driving the tractor, he somehow broke the shock from throwing the safety bar up and down as got in and out. Once I saw his behavior I immediately removed him from his job but the damage was done. It's either wear and tear from 2900 hrs of use or somehow this big dumb ox screwed up the ebrake system. I'm gonna check the brake linkage before I tear into the chain gear box....any thoughts from you pros...I got nothing to loose and a nice new shop to loosed it in...nobody around hear works on these machines .... I'm a brick mason and I need the machine back on the job yesterday

Cat differences

So anyone that has seen me stick my nose into various posts, and offer my 5 cents (Canada got rid of the penny) probably have figured out that I am a big fan of Volvo. My experience with Cat is pretty much limited to their tractors, excavators, or loaders. I ran a 1972 Cat 14E plowing snow for 5 winters, but that is pretty much the extent of my Cat grader experience. My question is..... what is the difference between a 120 and a 12, a 140, and a 14 and so on.

What are main areas to check buying 5000 hr backhoe

Hi-would appreciate any suggestions on what are the main areas to check, or the most frequently damaged areas to look for, to determine how many hours a backhoe really has on it. Am looking to purchase a late 80's early 90's 4x4 Case, J.D. or maybe Cat with cab, around 4 to 5000 hrs. Also- do the prices drop some during the winter months? I am familiar with operating a 3 pt version backhoe which has minimal capacities....and is basiclly is a toy compared to industrial hoes.

I know you guys who live on these units all day, have a lot of expertise and knowlege on these machines, and say a big "Thanks" in advance for sharing this with me, as this will really allow me to make a more educated and profitable purchase decision. Good day.

old iron in Northern Ontario??

Hi!!

I am heading to Thunder Bay this summer to go chech out an outfit that owns several Insley hydraulic excavators.

I was wondering if theire are other places in the area ou anywhere between Timming and Thunder Bay where i could find interresting Equipment from the mid 60's to the mid 80's.

I am looking for excavators, loaders, dozers, motor graders and rock trucks in the Terex, Euclid, Wabco, Michigan, Fiat-Allis, Link-Belt, Koehring Bucyrus-Erie, American brand names and other "typically American stuff".They can be still being used or "just sitting there".

I don't really look for Caterpillar stuff because it is still pretty common.

So, is there anything along highway 17, 11 and 101(between Timmins and Wawa that could be interresting for me??

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Max.

case 590 SL voltage regulator

I got my machine in last week and its alternator which is a bosh 12 v 120 a was not working. I got a new one and pit it on but after reving up she was producing 17.9 volts. I returned the alternator and am waiting on a replacement. The alternator looks like this one http://www.fleetalternatorstarter.co...tor_10385.aspx the guy at the desk tried to tell me that the alternator probably does not have a voltage regulator built in. I pointed out the round electrical device separated by the ceramic insulator. So my question is there a external voltage regulator and if so where is it located, I am only asking as I want to make sure I am not waiting on more parts down the road.

S130 suddenly stops while driving

Recently picked up an s130 from auction, did the service and everything is looking good. used it today to move some dirt around for ~45mins, then out of nowhere the thing just came to an abrupt stop, like the wheels locked up and engine stalled too. This happened twice more today before i parked it fearing that i would do some damage to the drivetrain.

Sometimes when i lower the seat bar i hear the relay click a few times, and often when i'm going to move it, i'll hit the green button once, go to move it, and then look up and all the BICS lights are off again, so hit the button once more and i'm good to go..

i'm thinking its the seat bar sensor, but would that make the machine just stop the way it did?

any other thoughts or things I can check?

Cheers!!!

644b Deere Loader Low Trans Pressure Question/Issue

samedi 28 mars 2015

A little background info: I have a 644b Loader with around 11,000 hours. The trans is a Allison tt2000 or tt2200 I cant remember. The Loader has had about everything rebuilt except the trans.

Today I went to check out the loader as the winter snow season contract is over in 3 days and started it up. Everything checked out well except that my trans pressure gauge is in the red and showing me only 125 psi or so. I moved the loader around in forward and reverse and it did not hesitate or lack any power. About 3 days ago we had a inch or so of snow and the guys ran the machine for about 5 hours with no issues. The guage on there now is older but a mechanical gauge. With this scenario I have a few questions. I ordered a set of gauges to check trans pressures at a few points and will do that in the next few days. The gauge will also let me know if just the mechanical gauge is off or if there is actually low trans pressure. I know there is a bunch of things I need to look before assuming its the trans has a internal issue but can I run this machine without causing alot of damage if it is actually low on pressue or will doing so really grenade the rest of the transmission?

Feel free to repond to this post with any tips or sugesstions. My email is theo1035@comcast.net and cell is 847 668 9734 as well

Thanks!

Converted Dump Truck Questions

Hi, I'm new on here but I have some questions about a truck that we are converting to a dump truck. We have a 1994 Fld 112 with a 50 series Detroit that we used to use for a water truck. We removed the tank and now have just the cab and chassis and have purchased a 13' dump bed to put on it. The cylinder that is with the bed is a 6 inch, 3 stage cylinder with only one hydraulic hose connection. We have not purchased a valve yet and don't really know what would be the best choice. Any advice on that would be great, or maybe some pictures of how most people set up their controls. If I'm not mistaken we will need controls for pto, dump, tailgate, shaker, and tarp. Also, with the way that our axles are and the length of the bed, our hinges will end up a little further past the rear axle than most of the dump trucks I have seen around town. How far back is acceptable for a 13' box?

Machine Shop Auction

I went to a machine shop auction today. The shop had been there for alot of years more than 60 and before i had a lathe or mill i had work done there. Shops like this are a dieing off because of less people repairing stuff. It was a very good sell for the owner because there was alot of amish buying stuff. I was talking to the owner last month and he was worried about the big lathe not bring much but it went for a good amount. I had a plan that i hope works out. I have a metal brake that is longer than i need so when the one there sold i ask the guy that was biding on it that didnt get it if he would be interested in the one i have. He looked it over and is comeing back next week to get it i hope.

Manitowoc 2900T

Anyone here have any experience running a Manitowoc 2900T? My employer bought one a short time ago and an issue arose with it the other day. I was lifting a 54000 lb load when the boom suddenly ran wild. Applying the auxiliary boom brake held it while I swung the crane and put the load down. Our mechanic ( nor anyone else on site ) is really familiar with this unit. We run an American 5299, Linkbelt 98, 108, and 418, as well as various boom trucks and a Maeda juicer. Occasionally the 98's boom will act similar if it has been raining a lot and it hasn't been used for awhile, as the frictions get wet ( we keep one hand on the boom dog until we dry them out ), but that isn't the issue for the 2900T. Any 2900T operators have any advice ? Thanks, Rick

So i ordered new gaskets from case and put back together. Now the water runs out of the first head. The old gaskets had been leaking around the head bolts and someone put lots of stop leak in it. I am assuming i need shims. How do i determine what thickness i need. ? Or do i need to do something else? Thanks any help would be appreciated.

case 580d power shuttle made worse

Loosing what little hair I have left.

Few weeks ago 580D lost forward, reverse was still strong. Shop guy at Case said it was probably clutch pack, so I ordered a whole clutch/seal/bearing kit online, and ordered a new charge pump from case. Went through the whole, thing, changed everything out, and now that I have it back in, I don't have anything, no forward, no reverse, no pressure on the top test port. Do have 25+ PSI on the side adapter test port. Took it out, checked the spacing between the bottom plate and snap ring on the forward clutch, put a thinner ring to give it a little more clearance. Put it back in, still nothing. Took the control spool out, made sure everything was moving freely, made sure the plunger is pushed in. Still don't have anything.

I'm lost and don't know what to look at next. It is spinning in the reverse direction when you put it in forward and reverse with the back wheels off the ground, but doesn't have enough go with them on the ground to spin. Anybody have any suggestions? I wondered if a clutch pack was hung or fighting each other, but I don't know what i would have wrong to cause that.

Only thing I didn't do was replace the Torque converter, but I figured if i had reverse when this all started that it was working fine??

Thank anybody in advance who has any ideas.

Small Dozer recommendations/opinions???

Hello

I am new to this forum so a little background on my situation. I have a couple hundred acres of pasture/ timber land in Alabama I run some cattle on. Some of the woods are old cut over about 15 years old with alot of 6 inch and less junk hardwoods (most less than 6 inch). I would like to add to some of my pasture by clearing some of those woods and just maintain the land. I have rented on several occasions jd450s and cat d5s. Cleared a few acres and wind rowed debris with them. Slow compared to large machines I know but able to do it to my spec. Problem I have is I work full time so when I rent I either have to take vacation or cram it in on a sunday regardless of weather. I am considering trying to buy one so I can do it when I have time. I would consider spending 25k to 40k to get one. I see jd450s, komatsu d37s in that price range but really know nothing about evaluating dozers. Do you you think I could find a decent one in that range that I would not have to work on all the time? Are jd, komatsu, cat all about the same in that size dozer? I might sell it in 3 to 4 years after work is done. How much wear would 5 or 6 hundred hours put on an undercarriage in Alabama red clay with light clearing(may be impossible to answer I know but opinions appreciated).

Thanks

Volvo L70 Adding A 4th Hydraulic Line

Hi All

Looking at getting an Allu screening bucket for my L70.

It's got a 3rd line already to quick hitch the bucket. I will need a 4th line to run the attachment.

http://ift.tt/1EMZA1h

Looking in my book, this is the circuit I currently have:

http://ift.tt/1OKlLNM

This is the circuit for the 4th line.

http://ift.tt/1EMZCWW

My question is, can I just split the 3rd line circuit? So in theory it would have a T piece at the end of each the existing pipes, then the four pipes would have a tap to divert the fluid? As the 3rd line lever in the cab is just used to connect or disconnect the bucket, you could close the taps once connected then use the same lever to divert the fluid to run the attachment?

Any thoughts would be greatly received.

Cheers

Karl

D-4G-XL fuel problems

I have a 2005 model D-4G-xl that I bought with 100 hours on it and it just rolled over 700hrs.

It has started acting up a little. The past 3 times that the fuel get a little low in the tank it 1/4 tank or so, the tractor just runs out of fuel.

The last time it happened I drained the tank to make sure I did not have a real trash in the tank problem and changed the filter.

Today it happened again so I thought perhaps the gauge was bad and the tank was really empty. I found a long skinny stick and it had 5" of fuel in the bottom.

I added 10 gallons of fuel and it started running fine again.

Any idea folks on what my problem might be?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Deere 540B lost hydraulics

Hi! Working on a deere 540b skidder, no hydraulics working, testing at the pump finds 0 charge pressure until about 3/4 throttle, then the gauge will come up to around 150 psi but drops to zero again at idle, I've tested the transmission pump pressure at 175 psi, according to the book the transmission pump charges the main hydraulic pump, either my oil is bypassing somewhere or tranny pump is weak and can't flow enough. Any ideas? Please.

Success breaking Case 455C track

Thanks again to all who contributed their ideas. I was able to make a tool, as described here, from a 5/8" thick railroad track plate, cut down to fit over the master-link. I rubbed a lumber crayon over a piece of paper feedbag to transfer the positions of the holes and so forth onto the paper, and then drilled two clearance holes and two tapped 1/2 x 20. Thought sure the tap would break; toughest tapping job I've ever attempted.

I ruined a couple of grade 5 bolts shoving the links apart, but it worked to start things moving. A 3lb hammer and a bar of old soft iron finished the job.

We'll be back on "track" again soon. Thanks again!

General backhoe questions

Hi guys! New backhoe owner & I have some general questions. Have an older JD 300C. Not going to win any beauty contests, but everything works as it should for the most part. I'm a novice operator at best - probably about 80 hrs total running one.

#1 How should the machine be parked when left to sit for long periods of time? Just drop the buckets to the ground or should the hoe be fully extended & down? Outriggers left up or dropped to the ground?

#2 The alternator isn't wired correctly. Will have that fixed, but am not going to go thru the trouble of moving it to a shop just to fix that. So basically it runs off the battery. Is there an issue with that? I don't use the lights so other than starting it, is the diesel engine using the battery for anything? Attaching a 50W solar charger w/ regulator to recharge between uses. So i'm wondering can it just run off a charged battery 4-6 hrs at a time? I use the machine very little so it would probably have a week between uses to solar charge back up.

#3 The rear swing controls are stiff. They work, but it's difficult to make fine movements or 'gently' swing the hoe. Other machines I've used you could about use fingertip pressure to work those controls. The best I can describe this is the difference in feel turning the wheels on a car with & without power steering at a stop - easy w/ power steering, more effort but possible w/o power steering. Is this an indication of a bad condition I need to have repaired or just a nuisance?

#4 Anything special I need to use for hydraulic fluid? Is regular R&O tractor hydraulic oil ok (ISO 32) or do I need something else?

#5 I only need to use it occasionally - say once a month. To keep the gremlins at bay I assume I should start it up, drive it around a little, & run the buckets through their range of motion in between uses. What would be a good interval for that? a 5-10 min exercise once per week?

#6 Lastly, I primarily use it as frontend loader moving bucketfuls Carolina red clay & gravel. My land is really soft, can stay muddy for days after a rain, but is mosly flat except one small hill. I know guys with 2WD tractors will fill the rear tires with fluid for better traction & balance for heavy FEL loads. My machine is 2WD & has AG tires on the rear that are probably 75% or better tread. Would filling the tires be beneficial? I'm thinking all the weight on the rear from the hoe should be plenty & more isn't going to do anything except help the rear tires dig deeper if it gets stuck but I really don't know.

Thanks in advance & sorry for all the dumb questions.

School me on hydraulic testing equipment

Hey guys,

I am looking for an introduction to troubleshooting hydros in excavators and skid steers. Basically looking at pumps and the wheel motors.

Are flow meters and a pressure kits equally important? On some flow kits, I see a valve before the meter, is this to "load" the system?

The system in my john Deere manual they use for testing looks like a portable air compresser box with gauges on top, ones that look the same are listed for 3500+ on eBay. What do these systems do that a basic flow meter and pressure gauges can't?

one way dump won't go back down

hey folks:

I have a small dump truck that worked fine until about a year ago. I can raise the bed fine but it won't come back down without heavy weight. It is a one way pump, simple hook up, 1 line, vent screen on other end of cylinder. Nothing is bent or out of whack, it just quit wanting to fall back down. I even raised it and took off the line completely(I used supports in case it fell, safety 1st) it still stuck in place. I also changed the fluid and checked the pump over, everything works fine with the pump(fairly new). Could a seal or something have come lose inside the cylinder? The trouble must be in the cylinder, I would imagine, especially sense I disconnected the pump completely. I'm going to tear into it and check everything but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas to share?

This is just a simple electric pump, one way action, on a small truck, Isuzu NPR, average load would be 3- 3.5 ton. Thanks

I bought the hoe cheap because of the trans issues and coaxed it along for a year or so and now it quit. Have a place that will rebuild it but no one wants to split it, so started in on it. Another place has the assembly access through the steering column opening which I suppose is mine. I am attempting to split off the front axel and engine, leaving the loader and hoe on. Raised right side put in gear 1st gear noticed some 2nd gear noticed a little more 3rd gear really noticed 4th gear same thing 5th gear started to smooth out 6th seemed pretty good so stopped there. Oil is full to check plug. Is this a bearing problem? If so how do you check which one it is? Thank You.

Would you buy an excavator that had been under water??

My son-in-law is looking at a used Doosan 140 excavator. It seems to be in good condition, runs good, and pins, etc are tight. Here is the catch. The seller says his machine slid down a bank and into a pond about 4 or 5 years ago. It was totally under water for about a day, until they got it winched out. At that time they had a dealer do a complete service, replace all fluids, drain fuel tank, and replace computer. Since then, it has been used on a fairly regular basis with no problems.

Would a person be nuts to buy this machine, or, as it has run ok the last few years since the dunking, would it be a safe purchase, so to speak? The asking price is about $30,000. Can not remember the exact hours, but I think it is in the area of 6000hrs.

I have salvaged diesel pumps that have gone under water on many occasions, but an excavator is a lot more complex machine.

What are you thoughts on this deal.

Jeff

No down pressure on boom on a kobelco sk300lc

I have a question on a kobelco sk300lc, mark IV, s/n: YCU0756.

Here is my problem, every function on the excavator works fine and the boom goes down fine but has no down force pressure once it meets the ground it will lift the excavator about 1 inch off the ground fast but stops and pluses like it is releasing pressure somewhere, it reminds me of the mode that some other excavators have when you have a sheep's foot installed where the machine eliminate all the down force pressure, except I don't have that mode on this machine from what I understand, we had our kobelco dealer out and haven't had any luck, I have removed the boom spool and disassembled the valves and found a broken spring on the boom down side poppet valve, It is 1.50 lbs. per square inch so I replaced it and ended pulling all the spool on the valve body to inspect them and they were fine and free, I removed the boom holding valve and I found a valve that was sticky so I rolled it on a flat stone and its free (boom holding fine), I have 4,800 psi at both front and rear pumps, I removed all the pressure relief valves for the boom, stick and bucket and checked them and they seam fine, I removed the conflux valves and poppet valves and they are free and in good shape, the boom cylinder's were repacked maybe two years ago and seam fine and the oil and filter are new, I checked all 6 of the valves under the cab and checked the diodes too and there all good, the only thing left to do is take apart the joystick and inspect the poppet valve there ? does anyone with Kobelco experience have any ideas ? is there a mode for this machine for a sheep's foot ? thanks for your help.

Go just past a quarter into the lower position though and it sticks. The valve does have a detent on it. Which I've probably only use less than half a dozen x. Any ideas on what could be causing it? Takeuchi tl 140 injection pump

A guy called me today wanting me to replace the injection pump on his tl 140. Personally I've never done more than replace a few hoses on a Takeuchi. What kind of engines do these things have in them? Are there any special tools required? I've done injection pumps but only on cats and it's been a couple years.

JD 700J operating Controls

Hey Guys,

I picked up a 2011 700J and have a couple of questions about some switches. (Didn't come with a operators manual) What does the rocker switch to the left of the display do? top has a picture of engine, bottom as picture of engine with a down arrow. Is it an auto decel? I have had in both positions and nothing happens.

The second is on the top button on right joystick. looks like it will bump blade up or down in small steps. Does nothing when I push it. Do you have to set it in the menu in display?

Thanks for the help.

The grader that went squirt

Just want to pick the brains of any Champion drivers. We used to have a 1990 730A. I think it had about 21000 hours on it when they got rid of her. Transmission never slipped, but when you walked her down the road, she used to put oil out the vent behind the cab. It got so bad that they put a small tank with a vent at the back of the cab to hold the oil, and let it drain back into the transmission. I was showing a young fella how to run her once, and noticed that when he changed direction, you could hear a hiss of air coming from the vent. Anyone ever experience something like that. She has a new home now, but I never found out what was wrong, and have always wondered.

Need a swing post for 535 industrial

Hello all,

I really screwed up and lent my Ford 535 hoe out to a buddy of mine who promptly ripped the swing post off trying to dig some large stumps out. I really can't give him all the blame as when the casting broke, the upper pin boss had an old crack that split. The part is a malleable iron casting so welding it is out with the amount of strain on it.

I'm having trouble finding a good one and I would appreciate it if any of you out there can recommend a dealer or dismantler who might have one.

The hoe attachment is a component 19-551 model 755 15' digging depth version The part number is 7708171

A little D9H fun this morning

Wish I could post a picture of the pebble our operator ran over this morning, might be able to get a copy from the working group leader!

Just to give an idea of the size it was on more or less level ground in the quarry where they were doing stripping of overburden. From where the stone was sitting while we were working on the dozer it was just sitting out in the open where the dirt was already stripped. Well this pebble was big enough to dent the front most belly pan under the radiator in enough to bust the adapter attached to the lower radiator tank! With out measuring it I would say it was close to five feet around and tall!

Needless to say the 45 gallons of coolant exited the system pretty fast. Checked with dealer and was told this part was on the "Build as needed" list! Well that was not going to help! That's when that D9H that ventilated the crankcase with #1 rod came in handy!

So we had to drop two belly pans and remove the bottom radiator pipes from both and then reassemble one also using the "donor" machine's belly pan as it was not as dented. Also had the good luck to finish the job about one hour before the rain started. This was good as machine was sitting in the low laying area of the quarry.

Did find that a local aftermarket parts dealer can locate a new after market adapter for $125.00 Now we just need to find the engine for that one!

Union or Non Union shop

I am about to graduate from college with a 2 year degree in diesel technology. I currently have an offer from a non union equipment dealership as a construction equipment tech for $16/hr with full benefits and a 401K. But I am also talking with a shop who I interned for that is a CAT equipment dealer. They are union and have been on the fence about hiring me. They won't offer me a position until mid April and the union will not tell me what benefits are offered through my membership. I'm not sure what to do. I'm not sure I want to get tangled with the Operating Engineers union at only 20 and I may want to leave my state in a few years. The CAT dealer offered a friend of mine a position in the truck shop as a truck tech at another one of their locations at only $13 plus union benefits. I'm stressing out big time about this as I don't wanna lose an opportunity and I want to look down each avenue with scrutiny. Does any experienced techs have any input?

Customise your ride?

How many of you have customized your ride? My former employer allowed us a certain amount of leeway in making additions as long as it was fully removable with no trace, so no drilling or cutting holes! Now I have a newer 160M on the way and I'm making up a list of mods for creature comfort.

1. Upgrade the stereo, Bluetooth Compatible for handsfree calling, USB port for my Ipod, and aux jack for the Satellite radio.

2. Wilson Sleek 4C Cell phone Booster for our 4G phones.

3. Sirius Satellite Radio.

4. Garmin GPS for every oilfield lease I have ever worked on since day 1. I have now worked for 5 different Companies and 13 different fields.

5. Tool Box hung from the neck, the M tool box is useless in the winter!

6. Shovel, Snipe, Tire Chain Tool, Aligning Bar holder.

7. Tire Chain Holder.

8. Custom shelf above the rear view mirror.

9. 8" Convex mirrors below both side mirrors.

10. I may upgrade a few lights to 4" LED, as it made a huge improvement on my 160H in the past.

11. 2-way Motorola radios. A requirement for the oilfield as we share the roads with haul trucks, logging trucks and the 4 wheelers.

I'll try to document them as they go on. Now you poor guys that have to share units, feel free to get all jealous. :D The only time we get short days is doing spring break up, so on average we are running 12-17 hrs, including our 1 hr travel each way to get to the field. It makes a huge difference in the length of the day if you can just plug in the iPod or satellite radio, instead of just listening to all the trash talk on the 2-way all day long. We've had to go to the handsfree as the new oilfield operators would rather dispatch via cell phone then by 2-way. Our fields are spread out enough that some days I don't even see them. And the booster is almost mandatory as the signal gets lost in some of our hills.

Case 584CK All Terrain Forklift

Greetings members,

I have what appears to be a mid-1970s 584CK forklift, 2 wheel drive with gas engine and 4 speed transmission with forward/reverse shuttle lever. It has a 21' mast. Would appreciate some guidance about how to identify which engine it has (159 or 188?), and source for full shop service manual. Only identification found is on the dash, Serial Number 5235109. This unit does not have urge to move forward or reverse until it warms up, then it has a solid drive motion in each direction (in 1st gear, but still sluggish in higher gears although I only use it in 1st gear). I have read that this need for warm up or converter fill is normal, but am curious why, and if this is how it worked when it was new? I have spent a lot of time searching on the web, but see no leads for Case 584CK forklift information.

Thank you,

rodeo man

Ditch witch 950 r/t subsite locator

Not sure if this is the right spot for this question. I own a small irrigation company, when we trace irrigation wire etc, we are using a tempo 521 locator, you hook up xmitr to wire or valve wire you want to locate and you have a handheld rvcr that emits tone only, no display, etc. I have a chance to pick up a used 950r/t locator that most utility companies or dig safe uses to mark cable, Telco, power etc. I have been told if I hook up their direct connect leads, it will work for irrigation as well or any wire etc. Anyone using and thoughts?? Double your blades?

How many others double up your blades? When we change our blades, we take the front set and swap ends, so the outside ends become the centers in the rear set. With our 16 foot moldboards by the time the rear set is finished with, they are pretty much 4" across. We use 1" x 8" x 8' installed with grade 9 3-1/2" plough bolts with washers to install.

Searching through our used blade racks when I used to work in my first field, a former co-worker would routinely have used blades that were 8" on the outside ends and 4" on the center, he refused to double.

So how many double? As a side note we change blades with the moldboard parallel with the frame and facing up, about waist high. I use an IR composite body 1/2" impact gun to fasten the nuts upwards. I have used a CP steel body 3/4" in the past, and now I don't mind double checking with breaker bar and a snipe instead.

My Terex 72-40 Wheel loader won't steer in one direction

My loader still turns to the right ok, but takes a lot of muscle and going back and forth to get it to turn back to the left. Once to the left, or even just straightened out, if I let go of the steering wheel while still traveling, it will gladly turn back hard to the right. ??

Machine Control Systems

Hi everyone,

Quick question, we have been looking into purchasing a machine control system for our Kubota KX91, and have run across a system called IdigBest. We have been in touch with the company, viewed many youtube videos and the such and the controller seems to be a quite good.

However, I have yet to find any reviews or reports from anyone who has actually purchased and used the system, only information posted by the owner of the company himself.

Have any of you heard of the I Dig Best System, do you know anyone who has used it? Here is the link to the website for the company, please share your ideas and opinions about this system, I want to know it is worth the investment.

Power problems with EX60URG

E.S.M.E is the Edinburgh Society of Model Engineers and we have bought 11 acres of woodland outside Edinburgh to build a centre where engineering skills can be passed on, and where members and visitors can enjoy our proposed miniature railway with at least 3 gauges, boating pond, rc car racing and picknicking.

To build this, we bought a EX60URG excavator which worked well for a time until the seals burst on a traction motor followed by loss of power to one side of the unit. A rough sequence of events over 8 months is as follows.

1: Uchida pump removed and sent to repairer who gave a quote for repair which we could not consider, then returned it to us dismantled, in a dirty box, with the undamaged parts missing. The damaged pistons, shattered piston ring, swash plate and other parts from one half of the pump were returned. The club purchased all the necessary parts and I rebuilt it.

2: The pump was refitted to the excavator and everything worked except there was no power to the blade, and the swivel brake would not come off. Removal of the pilot filter, which was clogged with what appeared to be a jelly like material, resulted in the swivel brake coming off and the cab would turn. The blade moved very slowly with practically no force.

3: The unit was driven to another part of the yard awaiting filters and transport.

4: The unit was driven toward a shed for filters to be fitted but failed totally after about 20 yards. After an hour the unit was restarted and enough power was achieved to allow some movement, and it failed again. A further hour later when the engine was restarted, power was generated long enough to straighten up the boom.

5: Filters were changed and cleaned and the unit restarted. Bucket swivel, front boom, side boom work but with unknown power. Main boom will lift a little at a time if the lever is jagged. Travel wants to move when jagged but brakes are not coming off. Blade does not work and unit will not swivel. During all this there is no change in the sound of the engine, and there is plenty of turbulence in the tank.

I have considered that a) Pressure relief valve(s) may be jammed open or

b) Pilot pumps may be damaged

Can anyone help?

Can relief valves be tested and where are they?

Does anyone have the cicuit schematic for the hydraulic system which appears to have 2 pilot pumps?

I am working with the manual for EX60-1

Kubota r520s, pros? Cons?

I have been considering the idea of a 520s but I can't seem to find much consumer input. This machine would be used at the yard to handle small amounts of fill, gravel, and possible feed a small screener. I could also see it being and excellent backup during the winter season for snow removal. My father and I do hardscaping and I wouldn't mind having it onsite at large access jobs, I think the improved lift capacity would be handy with how big these paver bundles are getting or even for armour stone. Our 85xt has been a power house but it seems she's working harder and harder to lift the pallets each year. We wouldnt be doing much, if any, digging and grade work with it, mostly just for load and carry situations of stone, materials, and loading materials. I'm really tired of bouncing around in the skid steers all day :Pointhead and could see this being one of a smoother ride.

We currently own a kx41 and after 4200 hours of serious abuse, and she hasn't exactly always recieved scheduled maintenance, it chuggs along all day, everyday and never complains. I know guys can't say enough good things about kubotas minis and the new SVL series, just not much word about their wheel loaders.

Any input is appreciated! Also considering a Volvo l35 but would rather start small and find the work first and grow into that machine later down the road.

Sources for aftermarket air cleaner assemblies? Universal or otherwise

Have an old D7E dozer that needs an air cleaner. I have tried and tried to find one. Not happening. I very highly doubt any aftermarket has a "direct" replacement, I just need to do my homework and mate something to it. the OEM part is something like 2 grand. not paying it. It used a bunch of venturi or helical flow tubes to separate dirt, then back through a media filter IIRC. Been a while.

the main issue is the can sits vertical, inlet is on the top, and outlet is on the side. this is opposite of how any truck filter might be which will inlet on the side and outlet centered from the filter. Clean air usually comes from the center of the filter.

I realize a dozer might need more fitration consideration due to environment. Just a media setup would probably clog in a couple days.

Hi There

I found this forum while doing research for a pool demolition project. I was so excited that I might be able to get advice on the project that I posted my question to the wrong forum.

I'm an IT guy and avid DIYer. I've done a lot of remodeling to my house including a kitchen remodel where plumbing had to be moved and a beam installed.

This pool removal that I'm looking for advice on is going to be my most ambitious project but I think it will work out.

Hi There

Hydraulic Cylinder tri-axle dump truck problem

I Recently fixed up a tri-axle dump truck, and the only thing left now is the Hydraulic Cylinder. If I fill it up with oil, the box lifts at the proper angle. When the box is coming back down, the Hydraulic Cylinder starts to spew out oil through the top part (Where the aluminum metal tube meets the black tube). Also it leaks oil through the opening cap, and a small hose behind the tank that you fill with oil. The Box also doesn't stay up when you lift it, and comes back down slowly.

What I wanted to know is the average cost to repair this piece of equipment. Am I better off buying a new one? How much does a new one cost?

PS: I think the Cylinder is 5 gauges or 4 I am not sure.
