Deere 35D Random Stalling, Fuel related?

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a Deere 35D, it runs great with the exception of this random stalling issue. When working with the machine it will randomly die out. Sometimes it fires right back up and runs fine the rest of the day, other times it will be dead for a solid 15 minutes. Ive had the machine for a week, ran pretty good for the first few days. Yesterday it was so bad that I was about to load it up on the trailer and take it to the dealer, but then it started running better. Today it ran pretty well but still died a few times. The angle of the machine seems to have an effect on it, like when I swing around to throw some dirt it will die at the same exact angle every cycle.

The day that it was really bad we found some water in the fuel by opening the drain in the clear plastic can (fuel filter?). It also seems to suck air when I open it, as if there is a vacuum. Weve ran several tanks of fuel through the machine with the same issues so I don't believe its just a case of bad fuel. The machine was service before I bought it including new fuel filter. I tried running the machine with the fuel cap loose but it made no difference.

Any advice would be a appreciated, this is my first machine and it is really killing me.

Hi Once again,, In my old days of driving A caterpillar 966C 76J in the logging industry here in Australia, the loaders has open bush cabs and i recall the dash had a pull down type of dash cover,, I am in the market for a 966C with heavy duty log forks and most i see ( in photos on various web pages) dont have that dash pull down cover,(maybe they were removed because of the enclosed cab but not sure) so wondering if the dash covers are still around...

I am planning on purchasing a new Case 280 skid steer and was looking for opinions on the optional ISO/H electric over hydraulic controls.

Anyone with experience have an opinion either way?

The machines primary use will be snow removal. I expect to use it for other typical tasks but not to the degree that many skids see. It may get used 16 hours a month at the most for typical excavating/augering, etc.

I know there is the "less moving parts means less to break" line of thought, but excluding that, do the new electronic controls make tasks easier?

08 Kobelco 210 SK; swings left

I've got a Kobelco 210 sk; I have checked the swingbrake switch behind the cab for correct setting so I'm sorta confident the swingbrake switch isn't to blame. Here is what's happening; I'll operate the machine for a few minutes and all is fine, then magically if I swing left(only happens on left swing) the machine will continue spinning after I've come to neutral on the joystick so naturally my instinct is to run the joystick to the right which oddly speeds up the left swing and at this point the only way I've found to stop it is to stab the bucket teeth in the ground. We had a guy get in this machine and smack his pickup truck because of this! Any ideas of where to start is great. I really appreciate this forum and thank you all in advance.

Looking to buy a 2005 Terex TA30 Gen 7

We are looking for a haul truck that we can put in our gravel pit. Its a truck that wont be used all day everyday but we will probably put 500 hours on it per year. I came accost a 2005 Terex TA Gen7 at a pretty reasonable price but i have no experience with them at all. I see it has a Cummins motor and i thought i saw it had a Allison transmission which both seem like pretty good brand names.

Just wondering if anyone has any previous experience or input on Terex haul trucks in general. We have 3 Terex dealers that are within about an hour of our shop so im thinking parts and service will be ok. We rent CAT haul trucks all the time for site work projects so im not expecting a Terex to compare to a CAT truck or a VOLVO at all. Just looking for a decent truck at a reasonable price.

Figured someone here could help with a problem im having. Old yanmar engine blew up, got a replacement, put in and wired. Ran for about 15 mins then shutoff with the battery light, and 2 lights underneath im assuming coolant and oil lights staying on. When i try to start it, the second light (i think oil) goes out but the other 2 stay on. Has all new sensors. Any ideas? The only other thing i can think of is its parked on a slight incline and maybe the coolant isnt touching the sensor probes?

580ck No power in reverse

I am new and bought a 1970 580ck named Missy. She has done quite a lot of work in the last month and is having problems with no power in reverse. I do not think it is a pump or transmission problem, it feels like when shifting the shuttle to reverse there is no real engagement not like shifting into forward. If I am not careful I can lift the front wheels off the ground when the shuttle engages. I have a service and parts manual but do not know where to start. Does anyone have a clear picture of the testing ports on the shuttle control valve and the size of the fitting required to test the pressures. I can only find the clutch pressure test outlet with my service manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

ASV PT-60 - faulty fuel gauge?

Had a truck come late last night for a delivery and he dropped his gate at the bottom of my driveway (45 degree slope driveway)... My fuel gague needle was bouncing between 1/8 and 1/4 and running fine on level ground... when I went down to meet him and tried driving back up the hill the machine kept dying and stalling... After 10 or so restarts i was able to inch up enough to level ground at which point the machine ran fine and did not cutout or die..

My thoughts were that I might have a faulty fuel gauge... i didn't have any extra diesel to fill up the ASV but I just was curious if I should check something else (ie fuel pickup) ... pretty ****** if these machines naturally "die" on hills if the fuel is just at a low level.

Is there a typical ratio (or even rule of thumb) of between the weight of a machine and its counterweight, especially in respect to the "zero swing" machines. Does the "ratio" vary much between a small digger and a larger one (I'm particularly interested in the smaller sub 4 tonne machines)?

Is there anywhere where one might find data on the counterweight size of specific machines?

Hi everyone, I've been a lurker for a little while and just signed up. Sorry if this question has been asked but I did not find anything using the search. I have a 580k 4x4 (later model) and the front differential grenaded 2 or 3 days after I bought it. Long story, but it's been a couple of years since I bought it and I've just been driving it in 2wd and listening to the metal clank around since then, hoping to find a complete axle to swap in. I can swap the gears but they are pretty expensive to buy, and I haven't found any donor backhoes. I've started thinking about swapping in a non-Case axle and just fabbing everything up myself. The one thing I don't know is what gear ratio these things are. Short of ordering the ring gear and pinion, and doing the math myself, I'm hoping someone might know off the top of their head. Hoping it's a fairly common ratio. Thanks

580 B slips out of gear often

Bought this old machine and have fixed numerous issues with it , leaks - wiring - etc.

motor bogs when trying to turn?

Don't know what happened, didn't own it very long. 1984 deere 693B Trying to turn, the motor bogs right down as it struggles. Even at full engine speed. Goes forward and backward fine, left side track weak. Also left brake weak so I have to do the one track forward one track backward. I was told by dealer that some drive motors got upgraded to piston tip amd there stronger, mine is the old type. Maybe it's not meant to drive both track in opposite directions?

Thinking about buying a skid steer. Never owned one and need some advice.

Hello there, I have a small landscaping business and the labor cost is killing me, I want to incorporate more skid steer machinery in my operation. The place we rent it from they charge us $300-$400 per day (including delivery and pickup). There is a promotion of a new Kubota SSV65 skid steer that sells for 34k. When you finance it for 7 years it comes down to $452 + $50 insurance. I can definitely do $500 a month, but will need to buy a beefy trailer + a truck that can support both, so the cost really adds up fast.

Problems/questions:

* I have a v8 Tundra truck. Most dealers told me my truck is not strong enough to tow a skid steer + a trailer to support it. Is that correct? If so, does toyota makes any truck models that can haul this thing?

*Should I look for a used skid steer? Do those things age well?

*Will 65 horse power be sufficient to my needs? Mostly need to spread many yards of soil and gravel.

*Does Kubota has decent skid steers?

*What kind of trailer should I look for?

*Any other un-intended costs of owning a skid steer?

*How maintenance heavy those things are? Frankly, I know almost zero about mechanics so won't be able to tinker/fix it myself.

*f you had to buy a no frills truck that will haul it, which one will you choose? f250 will work? I really like toyota, because its so reliable and that's a huge advantage for a non mechanic person like myself. I heard that american trucks have a poor reliability reputation?

Hey all, i know this might be a bit long winded, but bear with me if you may.
having been offlne a while, i figured after a weekend like the one i just had, i needed to share a bit.

We have a CONSTANT battle betwwen maintenance and production. and this weekend is the perfect example.
i recently moved sites where, with one other mechanic, we look after 2 x 374D's, 6 x 740B's, and some auxilliary equipment.
the one 374D had generic tracks fitted not so long ago (they both use generic), and for whatever reason the sprocket came loose, which i found when i arrived. instead of splitting the track it was decided to just tighten the bolts in place.. yay.

this does not work for the following reasons;
1. the sprocket will come loose again, whether it be from dirt behind or from burring. anything that gets in behind the sprocket will ensure you dont succeed.
2. you cannot fish out the bolts that are already broken.
3. it is the long way to do it. (i know,you'll do it again, repeatedly.)
4. more bolts will break and more things will get stuffed.

The other problem was that, on the other side of the frame where the idler is, there is a stud that holds the recoil spring to a certain length. this too is broken.
this is also bad. the track is under constant tension and it will reduce your component life considerably (imho)

So i got just cause to finally stop the machine when it finally broke a half dozen bolts over night shift and was left with just 4 bolts! (there are 21 that hold the sprocket on)

this left me with having the nice job of splitting the track alone. as the other guy was off.

now it wasnt easy and it definitly needed some grey matter. mostly due to the tension in the track. i must say splitting it wasnt hard. all we had to work with was a chain block and a wire sling.
i got it off, by myself. ( no press needed, the track has a sliding fit master pin) got the sprocket off, and extracted the broken bolts. cleaned up all the holes and set an angle grinder to even out the face of the sprocket.

i managed to tighten up all but 5 of the bolts whose threads were too far gone.
putting the track back together was more fun. eventually figured out a way to line it all up and stick it back together with just the excavator itslef. here i did have a bit more help as my mate and the w/s manager were back from their off. they lined it as i operated the machine.

its a week and my hack has held. we've a few more weeks to go till our contract is over. production continues and the only thing they spent money on for that fix was on a bottle of lock-tite.

its not the ideal way of fixing it, but its what should have happened two months back when it was first noticed. now they need a new final drive housing. if it doesnt hold. if it does it will likely just carry on as is.
i managed to take a few pictures, hopefully it will give you an idea of what was involved.

i couldnt take apart the idler, but the stud definitly was broken lol.

EX 135ur-5 throttle problem

I am trying to set the throttle position on an ex135 ur-5 but I can't seem to get it to remember the correct setting. I've tried to hold the toggle switch down behind the seat and turn the key on with the throttle set at idle, let the stepper motor cycle the turn off the key, this may not be the correct procedure for this machine. The toggle switch only has two positions. I removed the cover on the stepper motor and the gears are ok.
Could it be the throttle position sensor in the motor or the control module.
I have 3 more of these -5's so I can swap parts if need be.
I also have a disk Doctor a friend gave me but haven't tried using it yet.
Any suggestions we be appreciated.

im looking at purchasing a link belt 80 excavator. the 2 im looking at are:
1. 2007 spin ace 80 1350 hours body in decent shape minor scrapes and dents. Has a thumb but no quick tach steel tracks with rubber pads in 75 % comes with 2 foot bucket and 60 in ditch cleaning bucket. which is kinda usless to us. so i priced in a new 36" GP bucket. didnt see any wear in the pins or slack in the boom or terex.he priced me out at 70,350 tax included.

2. 2011 same machine but with 2300 hours body in a little rougher shape. this machine doesnt have a thumb but has the quick tach option (which i was quoted $6,800 to put on the other machine) This machine pretty much just needs a hug. comes with 24" and 36" bucketsminor fixing of small stuff..light etc...so slack or play in the boom or terex.asking $62,000
i dont know enough about excavators since this would be our first purchase of an . . we have rented the #2 machine many times before and he wants to upgrade. Now the #1 machine would be purchased from a dealer as #2 would be from a private party.
what is my better deal, newer machine more hours or older machine less hours. whats more important hours or model year for resale etc...

977L Boost Pressure

Recently installed a boost gauge on my 977L and was surprised by the readings, at full RPM (Under load) the highest pressure i've seen is 7-8 PSI. Is this about right for this machine?
The engine is the 190HP 3306, machine serial number 11K7981.

There is no noticeable lack of power, the machine will spin the tracks in 1st and 2nd. That being said this is the only 977L that i've ran so I don't have anything to compare it to.

Hello I'm new to this forum. I Just bought a 503 galion and am wondering if there are front scarifier mounts or something for a dozer blade or snow plow for these small graders? There's a flat plate with holes on the front. Does anyone know of a setup laying around in a scrap yard somewhere or a junk machine? Hello Folks - from down in NZ.

I've lurked for a while but have some burning questions re excavators in general as I'm about to add a small excavator to my equipment.

My business is fencing, mainly on what we call lifestyle blocks, I'm guessing other folks call them small-holdings or hobby farms,although I do do some agricultural and domestic fencing too.

Currently I operate a Massey 5445 Tractor and Kinghitter S2 (expander) post driver but as I mentioned above that's about to be added too once I can figure out how to configure the new excavator.

Hi All, I have to remove the radiator from my excavator but I can't get it out. The bolts and hoses seem to be holding it in place. The operation and maintenance manual gives no real direction. If anyone has done this and can give a idea of how to do it I would appreciate it Or if they have a copy of the workshop manual.

Ok, here is the situation.

Looking to buy out a profitable (in spite of current mgmt & processes) material pit. It's not huge, but it is making good money with much greater potential.

Products it makes...
Sand
Gravel (2"+, 1"-2", 5/8, & 3/8)
Sandy loam soil
Black dirt (sort of blackish)
Fill dirt
Clay (mixed into everything...can you actually sell clay? I know people looking to truck some in for a pound...but I know of no one selling it)


Right now it's got...
A small dirt screen that's basically wore out. I actually bought a used trammel screen this weekend to move dirt production to (see root problems in other thread).
A small portable 'wash plant' that's not capable of producing more than 150 total tons of products per day...wanting to sell that if anyone has use. 1700 hour and works well...just NOT the right size as demand is like 10X what that will produce.
A bunch of old, too small, wore out loaders, excavator, and old dump trucks.

What our plan is...
Equipment upgrade...3-5 yard loaders, get the 330 running (engine was out), and then upgrade the wash plant. Use the trammel for dirt products.

Question is this...

The main hole is down to a material that he couldn't wash (clay) in his inadequate wash plant (10 ft min water). We're going to dig & wash that out turning current area into 'retention' pond as we go.

Instead of 'wildcatting' all over the damn place we're going to implement a more managed plan working from the 'main hole' out. The entire are we'll likely be in for the foreseeable future is less than 100 yard from the center of the area....especially for rock & sand.

We have 3 phase on site (other side of the hole...where we want to move anyway since current plant sits on virgin soil with high gravel content) which both my partner and I see as better than running diesel...or at least we did. Today I meet with a material plant owner that used to sell Power Screens and told him our plans...his advice was buy a track mounted portable wash plant ($150-$250k) and take the show with you. He also had bought his first electric powered plant and said it's been a 'nightmare' for all the electrical problems and that he'd just spent $15k on an electrician to fix something else. I've worked around electrical before and I can't say I've ever had that experience. My partner deals with 3 phase all the time with his other biz and says he's at a loss what could be the issue.

We've done the numbers on building a plant and then buying an artic truck, hauling loads to a hopper where loader operator would load trucks and the plant.

VS

Buying mobile plant and load it with the loader using the 330 to dig up the material as needed. It's more expensive but we could theoretically ditch having a truck so it equals out $ wise.

One final thought...help is tough to find here. Currently there are 3 employees. One dip **** that the current owner was inflexible on wanting to fire before he sold (I'm good with that), one aimless non-thinker that could be usable with better leadership, and one slimy old man that has run the plant and been stealing it blind (he's gone after our new guy is up and running...of course our guy is taking over ALL $ day one as well as access)

Want to keep staff as small as possible...

My scat trak 1300c keeps filling up the drive chain case with oil and leaking out the rubber caps. Thinking that maybe one of the drive motors are leaking. Has anyone seen this before ?

Holy metallic mess !!

Cleaned out the rear diff housing on the 644E, brake plate completely worn away and milled into iron grease.. Scraped it all out by hand and then filled the diff housing with diesel, halfway, then let the gears spin for a while, did that twice to rinse out all the crap. Axle bearings are shot but the differential bearings and gears don't look bad at all. More inspections later.

bobcat 4in1 bucket issues

broke a hydrolic line the other day and replaced it. when it broke the arms on the tractor went down so i fixed the boom hose and at the time i also fixed a leaky hose to the clam bucket. now the bucket goes really slow when you try to open or close it. Disconnected it and hooked up the backhoe and dug a ditch just fine. disconnected it and hooked up the auger and it worked just fine, disconnected it and hooked up the 4in1 again and no luck, goes really slow. tore everything apart and hooked up one cylinder at a time and they worked just fine. took the splitter box off and cleaned it (no valves on this just a tee splitter) hooked it all up again and still slow. cracked open a return line and hit the switch and bled out a gallon of fluid to be sure the air was out of the lines. no luck. ANY body out there who can help???

Komatsu D38E weak steering

I have located a 1999 Komatsu D38E dozer for sale but the steering is weak and according to internet searches this dozer has a steering clutch design similar to a disc brake system on an automobile immersed in oil for cooling. Is there any adjustments that can be made or what is most likely the problem? Also, how big of a job would it be to get into the housing and visually inspect the clutches if necessary? The dozer only has 3900 hours on it.

If anyone can help. I'm new to owning a backhoe and this is the first forum I've ever joined. I have a Case 480e and I'm trying to find the age. The serial number is 17003423 but I haven't had any luck looking on line

I own a case 530 ck gasoline with a 32 loader and hoe. when I am using the hoe and have the loader set to max lift of the front tires the loader creeps up and eventually lifts off the ground. is there some way to fix this so the loader will stay where I set it as I use the hoe ? I bought this case 14 years ago for 5800.00 and have put a few thousand in it. new rad., all new hyd. lines, new pump, clutch, brakes 3 times {can't get the seal to stop the rear end fluid from leaking**, valve job, rebuilt all but one cylinder, new tires. when I first got it this gal had been worked pretty hard. the spool valves for the hoe were leaking so bad I was losing a gallon of hyd. fluid every hour of use. I took the hoe off, disassembled all the spool valves and put new rubber o rings in. this cut the leaks down to almost 0. I've put 800 + hours on it since and the hoe spools are leaking about a quart every 6 hours now. not enough to tear it apart again but time will tell. in spite of changing out the hyd. fluid I still find that the fluid gets milky after a while. I had a bad thing happen because of the water in the hyd. fluid though. I went to start it on a 15 degree day. the engine started but was really laboring. the cap on the hyd. filter exploded like a rocket and shot up in to the air about 50 feet. I was covered in fluid and very fortunate that the cover didn't blow towards my head. I don't start it if it is below 32. well enough for now, happy to talk about my case and would appreciate any help on the loader creep. dave

Here is the problem, the front bucket will not come back to level. When running I have power to both wires at the spool. I have power on two of the three wires at the sender / pickup on the boom. The relay checks to be good and the fuse is good. Could anyone tell me a procedure of checking the system out? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

JCB 814 Super - Manuals and advice please

Hi there, I'm new to this whole forum thing and think I made a mistake trying to ask a question on the end of someone else's thread....sorry
Here goes again though..
I'm a bit of a JCB Perkins fan and have worked with and on a grey cab 3CX for years.
I now have a white cab 814 super that is really a bit of a project and barely started when I first got her a month ago, fortunately the good old Perkins 6354 is something I can work on and get parts for.
The problems I have that I need help with are the hydraulics,
I've got hydraulic fluid leaking from the slew motor into the slew gearbox, not large quantity but obviously tries to pressurise the gearbox so have temp fitted a drain to the dipstick.
Most of the solenoids are either dead, seized or both and I cannot for love nor money find replacements that are anything other than scrap.
I've got a welded up, seized and slightly bent slide plus the usual leaking rams.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a service manual, either PDF or paper, don't fancy taking the slew box apart without it
I've tried buying downloads off loads of dodgy websites but can't actually find one anywhere

Methane gas dangers!

Not in construction but on the farm there have been 2 deaths attributed to methane gas in the last couple of weeks. Lot of earth work has a methane danger so I thought I'd post this to make people aware.

1: Farmer put an agitator in a manure lagoon prior to pumping it out to spread. You normally leave them run 24 hours or more depending on the size of the lagoon. The next morning was foggy and the farmer went to check the lagoon. They think the fog held the methane in and he inhaled enough to kill him.

2: Farm worker spreading liquid manure apparently stopped in the field to relieve himself by the rear of the spreader and he too got enough methane to kill him.

For you guys doing earthwork: Be aware of surroundings. Old farmsteads and landfills are particularly prove to have a source of methane as well as old septic and sewer systems! Methane itself in odorless! And it doesn't take much to kill.

Bobcat 773 Blowing Smoke and Oil

Hi.

I have a Bobcat 773 with Kubota engine and 2500 hrs. A few days ago I noticed the engine gurgling after shutdown and the temperature gauge was slightly above the operating range. Sure enough it was low on antifreeze. I filled the radiator and replaced the air filter (it was embarrassingly dirty). Upon restart it seemed to be fine so I hooked up my brush hog yesterday and drove a 1/4 mile to mow. I was watching the temperature gauge and it was hot but still in the operating range. Then the engine started smoking and smelling and I drove it back to the house. It was really smoking when I got home and temperature was into the hot range but not pegged. When I started it this morning it smoked profusely and was blowing oil.

I'm assuming it can be broken rings but maybe just a blown head gasket. Can the head be pulled without pulling the engine or should I just pull the engine out? Or is there a potentially smaller problem I should look for first?

ASV RC30 Will not move forward.

Hi everyone. I am new to this and looking for help. I have a ASV RC30 that will not move forward. All other functions operate normal. It will go in reverse, right, left, but not forward. Not even a hum or anything when I push the stick forward. Was running fine and then all of a sudden stopped dead in it's tracks. Had to go back to the trailer in reverse. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

977L transmission issue

I am new to the site (first post). I've been searching for some information on a Cat 977L in regards' to shifting. It belongs to a friend, the shift lever moves back and forth and nothing happens. According to operator it worked before it was parked. I don't know if its a fluid issue (lack of) or some sort of linkage issue. Since it did work then stopped all of a sudden I'm thinking it is something simple. I have never worked on heavy equipment but just about everything else. Is there some simple things to look at before I spend $200 on a manual? Cat Model 977L manufacture date 1977. Any help would be great, I assume there is a separate filter and oil for the trans but not sure of the location.

Case 580 4x4 loader backhoe - I know this is the model I want, not sure which variant

G'day,

I've recently purchased a hoppy farm and need to buy a backhoe loader.

I was initially looking at an L Series Kubota TBL but have come to the conclusion that it wont be enough for what I need done around the property.

The jobs I need to do are;

Move large amount of quartz rock/boulders (old mine dumps)
Fill in short mine shafts
Remove old tree stumps
Repair rabbit warrens
Maintain and harvest an area of pine plantation
Dig trenches and foundations for new structures

After talking to my grandfather who sold Case Machines here in Australia for a long time and also a neighbor who is a heavy equipment mechanic, I think the Case 580 4x4 is the way I want to go.

I'm just not sure which model exactly.

I just missed a low hour 580 Super LE 4x4 unfortunately and have been told to stay away from the later models with more electrics etc.

Any help on the models to buy and the models to avoid will be greatly appreciated.

Not something I know anything about...
A friend is looking at re gravelling his lot which has regular frequent use by all kinds of heavy equipment.
Is anyone aware of the costings for regular maintenance of gravel lots, say by the square yard or other measure?
Taken into consideration would be grading/floating, gravel, equipment wear and tear etc?
I'd be guessing but I'd say the area would be somewhere near 2square kms or 1.2square miles ish.

JCB 215 Series 2 Backhoe - Perkins Diesel Dies Under a Load

I have a 1995 215 series 2 with about 8,200 hours. She idles well. When I use the hydraulics - dig or move, the engine dies. It will start immediately and die under a load. We can do this several times and then it just stops running and won't start. I can get it started by priming, but the cycle continues. So far I have replace the fuel filter, lift pump, drained the fuel and replace with fresh, cleaned out the sediment separator. I still have the same problem. The particle screen in the old lift pump was pretty clean. Low pressure side fuel lines look good. Any ideas where to look next?

Case 650K Series 2 "Charge Pressure Low" light

I have a Case 650K Series 2 machine with 1100hrs. The machine had sat-up a while before I purchased it. GaryHoff and a couple others helped me tremendously with some electrical issues when I first purchased the machine. I've used it sparingly in the last few months with no issues, but I'm rarely using it for more than an hour or two at a time.

Anyways, while clearing roads at the hunting camp this weekend I noticed the coolant temperature and hydraulic temp kept creeping up. It did not get in the red, but was pretty close to it after 2-3hrs of working it. I would have to stop and let it cool down every so often. Towards the end of day I also had a "charge pressure low" light come on and a buzzer. When the light came on I shut down the machine. After waiting a couple minutes I would re-crank and work a while, but the buzzer would eventually come back on. I did this several times before going park the machine. Even when the light came on the machine never felt weak at all. I also developed 2 cylinder leaks while working, so I was concerned that maybe the hydraulic fluid was old and breaking down?

I went back the next day and changed my hydraulic oil, both filters (hydraulic and hydrostat). I also cleaned the radiator and oil cooler (left side of radiator) with water. The machine did seem to run cooler, but I still noticed the hydraulic temp would creep up within 2 bars of the red after running a while. Especially when I was tracking the machine faster (50-60%). When pushing and tracking the machine at 30-40% it seemed to stay a little cooler. I had the (low charge pressure) light flicker on a few times when I hit the decal pedal to move into reverse. And again later in the day the light did come on. I could kill it and re-start in less that a minute and it would go away for a while, but eventually came on again. My hydraulic oil level was always roughly 2/3 way up the sight glass. I checked for fault codes, and had none.

Any idea what could be going on? I know my machine has the diagnostic test ports to test pressure, but I'm not sure what kind of connector I need to hook-up to that. The charge pump is built into the hydraulic pump on this machine correct? Is it possible to have that part failing with such low hours?

Also, the next day when I went to unload it from my trailer I had a transmission fault light come on. Code 4311F. I didn't let the machine warm up before moving it, so I don't know if that could have anything to do with it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My buddy has an older case 450 forsale he is down to 3,000 for machine, I have used machine on and off for a few years now, i know the tracks are worn , but if you keep them pumped up and don't turn sharp, the tracks stay on. if you are rough then they may come off. Has newer rebuilt engine, grouser pads all good, rear sprockets don't have not much wear, but idlers set is whooped both side and rollers,. six way blade works some excess movement, one leaking cylinder , .. opinions???

Deere Pins & Bushings

Just having too much fun... I'm replacing the pins & bushings on the boom. The play made it hard for me to use it smoothly.

Here's my question... Is it feasible to just replace the pins and leave the bushings? Bushing replacement is so much more involved.

I measured the wear on a pin. Found it to be about 18 thousandths. Multiplied out to the bucket that was a bunch of play. Don't have an inside mic so can't measure the bushing wear. If the wear is concentrated on the pin, maybe pins alone is worth the money and time saved. I'm already committed to replacing the bushings now (parts in hand) But the pivot on the swing tower is sloppy too.

Here's pic of my set up. If you see potential safety issue, pls speak up. When I put it back together I'll have do some shifting to line everything up. The tractor is NOT supporting any weight, It's there "just in case"




Wear is concentrated on about 200 degrees of the pin. Max .018 deep

Hydraulic filter restriction light

I recently bought a bobcat 442 excavator and I am slowly fixing all the bugs/issues with it. When we bought the machine the hydraulic filter restriction light was on. We replaced the filter and the hydraulic fluid with factory filter and oil and the light is still on. We have run the machine a little and the light stays on. I am assuming it must be a bad sensor. My question is if this light is on does that mean the filter is being bypassed?

Case 580c restoration

Hello everyone,
I'm rebuilding a Case 580c with extendahoe. I believe its a 78 or 79 judging by the serial number stamping on the hydraulic cylinder gland nuts. Example, backhoe bucket cylinder serial# G101176 5 78
I repacked the right stabilzer cylinder with a seal kit I bought from my local Case Dealership, Powerco Inc in Clintom Nj. Believe it was somewhere around $60-65. I have seen kits from Hydraulic works advertised for prices $30-$40. Just wondering if its all markup on cases end and buying kits from Hydraulic Works would be a "safe bet". Or if the old addage "you get what you pay for" applies. Remaining repacking includes Backhoe bucket, BOTH swing, left stabilizer and loader arm cylinders. Below are a couple pictures of when I first picked her up amd how she looks now.

580 ck starter problems

I'm new here, so I will try to abide by the rules. I have a 1969 (I think) 580ck (diesel). The starter quit and I had it rebuilt by a reputable rebuilder. I have had it back three times. I'll get two or three starts and then it quits. He has been good enough to fix it each time but it still breaks. I need schematics on the starter or at least the wiring diagram. There are two small wire connect screws on the starter. When I hook up one I get nothing but when I connect to the other I get at least a click, then nothing. Am I inadvertantly shorting my starter or solenoid? I have lost my owner's manual so I'm flying kinda blind. I'd really like a manual on this beasty. I love the machine, but it obviously don't love me back. :) Your help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

We just looked at a John Deere 9520t with a 15 yard pan. We currently have 3 613 and a old Michigan 110-15. The Deere is a newer tractor for a decent price, no leaks clean machine. What are your guys opinions on this machine, the ag tractor and pan is a new concept to us, any disadvantages or advantages to this setup.

T870 'breaker mode'

Good morning! Hey I've been running a concrete breaker on my T870 all of spring and summer and till last week sometime it has been working great, giving me about 200 beats a minute at an idle and about 1100 beats a minute at full throttle. Now last week it quit doing that and will just give me about 120 beats a minute at high or low throttle. A breaker supplier is telling me that I need to select breaker mode on my bobcat and that will give me the option to select One way hydraulics. Apparently these machines have about 800 psi pressure on their return line and these jackhammers don't like that! Now I have never heard of that being an option and I have tried to figure out how to select breaker mode with no luck.does anyone have advice for me?

New to the site, so don't know my way around yet. Hope this is the best place to post.

I recently bought a D5H (1995) to take a piece of unbroken land from scruffy to workable. We will put shop and home there, most is covered by native grass but need to take some existing groves of alder out...permanently. The trees are not very large, but my son-in-law tells me that they are all one single plant linked by a root network. Will the blade alone likely do this job, or am I needing some deeper intervention?

The end result is that we are expecting to grow Saskatoons (Serviceberries) and/or Evans dwarf sour cherries. As you can imagine, this is not a one-season project, but fairly long term. Just need to get the show on the road and don't want to have to do things a second time.

Hi
I got a problem...the alternator buzzer keeps buzzing =) i have owned the skid steer for about 6 month and under that 6 month the alternator buzzer did buzz a couple of times when i was using it and it stopped after 5 sec and for about a month now i have had the alternator buzz when i start it but stopped when i rev up but now it wont stop even when i push the throttle to max
do you think the alternator need to be changed or could it be the battery?

D5M LGP oil and other questions

Sorry to keep bothering you guys :D I used the search tool but "oil" is too short :rolleyes:

Friday I bought a '99 D5M and I'm changing the filters and topping off the fluids.

1) What type of transmission/drivetrain oil do you use? All I can find is SAE 30W meeting TO-4 spec. I assume this is not just regular SAE30 engine oil or is it?

2) ritchiespecs lists 6.9 gallons of oil. I drained the pan, changed/primed the filter. Put about 6.9g back in. Ran it for 30-40min and the dip stick shows about 1" 1 1/2" overfilled?? Did I miss a drain? It showed low before I changed it, It was sitting level and drained for 2-3 hrs while I went to town and got filters

3) Fuel filters The 2 filters on the drivers side - one up and one down. What is the correct procedure to change these loosing the least amount of prime?

Case 450 tranmission oil change.

Hello to all, I just joined this forum.

I have purchased a 1970 Case 450 dozer and am trying to change the transmission oil.

I have no problem with both filters and draining the rear end, The manuals I have received
so far have no info on this part of the procedure and seems to be missing.

Anyway I have only got around 5 gallons out the the sump and it was full according to the stick.

It holds eight gallons and I would think I would get at least 7 gallons or so.

Do I need to drain the converter and if so what plug do I use or am I missing something else.

I used the dozer for around 10 hours and it works OK but the oil is filthy.
