Is there any major differences between a 550 and 555 Dresser?
Is one more reliable than the other and do both have about the same parts availability and operating cost? I'm aware the 555 weighs about 10K lbs more but it does come with a larger 6.5 yard bucket compared to the 5.5 yard on the 550. The extra capacity might help me get done faster anyway when loading light material on a dairy farm.
I've had good luck with the 855 Big Cam in our Steiger farm tractors so I am leaning towards the purchase of the 550 right now. I have not looked at a the 555 yet so I am not sure what type of engine they have. I've heard it may have a QSM11 which I think is the same engine as the Cummins M11 used in the 9350 Steiger Tractors also. About 9000 hours on both after the last rebuild.
My 2 older loaders are IH 515b's but they are getting very tired after 15 years on light duty work and I am looking for more capacity.
