Looking to buy a Loader. Advice?

mercredi 30 novembre 2016

Looking to buy an older loader for moving rock and dirt on my own property. Found a few old John Deeres ranging from 444b, 544a, 3 644s and a 94 Case 621b. Case is newest with lowest hours but has trans issues. Owner thinks it needs rebuild. From what I have researched it may be electrical. 444b is at local dealer and is ex municipal with forks, quick attach and new tires and chains. 544a is an old farm machine that looks like it was restored and hasnt seen much use since 1990. 644s range from late 70s to late 80s. 2 need work. Diff troubles. Newest one seems good but long haul (cost) to bring home. Leaning toward the case. Second cheapest, newest and may be not bad to fix. 444 may be too small lifting wise for what I want to do. The 544 while looking nice may just be too old. 644d seems ok but very far away to look at and has 15K hrs+ on all original components with newer pins. Any thoughts from those of you with experience? This would be my first loader. Repairs dont scare me unless the Case needs a new trans(big$). TIA

Cat 267b cyc1 fuel pump lines

I need help with the fuel line replacement.
I had a broken line and had to remove all of the lines to get to the one needing to be replaced.
On one of the lines I removed the barrel the fuel line attaches to going into the pump.
I'll try to explain it the best I can.

The parts manual doesn't show this barrel or the internal parts inside.

Inside the barrel there is a spring-jet-tiny ball-spring fitting- spring.

I'm missing some of these parts and cant locate any part numbers for replacement.

Seems like a long shot finding an answer. Cat dealer couldn't find the breakdown of this part either.

Are we really this spoiled

Spoke with an old Catskinner/Cat mechanic friend today. He was telling me that a few days ago he was visiting a friend of his that is a larger dismantler of heavy equipment. They had a not to old high track D6 in there that they were parting out. As the machine looked to be in really fair shape by appearance Gary asked what was wrong that it and why it was being parted out. The owner of the yard said that nothing was wrong except that it had no cab, air conditioner, or heater. They were pulling the engine to send to a customer. The previous owner apparently could not get any operator to stay on it. Gary asked what they had paid for it and his friend said $10,000. He then told Gary that there was absolutely no market for open machines so it was being parted out. Are we really getting that spoiled?

freightliner FL 60 speedometer

Nobody locally seems to know what the problem is, it comes and goes as far as working, sometimes when you drive it works fine, then the next time its not accurate, it seems to hover at the 25 mile per hour mark and stay there even when driving 55 or faster. This afternoon I drove it three hours, about a half hour it maintained the correct speed of 55, all the rest of the time it hovered near 25-35 and would constantly bounce around in that speed up and down the bulk of the three hours of driving. It never quits, and then all of the sudden to goes back to reading accurately for a few minutes and then drop back to that 25-35 zone again.

We've adjusted the gap in the sender and that does nothing to change it. I think the truck is a 1998 year, mechanical engine. Its done it for years, and the only change is, now its not accurate more than it is, when this whole thing started, it would drop in speed maybe 10 percent of the time and was accurate 90 percent of the time, now its accurate 10 percent and inaccurate 90 percent of the time. Any idea's as to what's wrong and how to fix it?

Cheap Coupler Upgrade?

Hi all, I have a Cat 928G with a pin on 3 yd bucket. What are my options for upgrading to having a coupler. I understand I need to make adjustments to my current bucket to fit onto the coupler. A JRB hydraulic coupler costs $5800. Are there any non-hydraulic but rather manual couplers? I know there are some for excavators. Ultimately I'd like to have my current bucket, a light material 5 yd bucket and forks at my disposal. I don't want to spend 20-25k on all that. Thanks for your advice.

repower the diamond reo?

I have a 73 diamond reo single axle that id like to repower with a diesel. Its got the reo comet gasser in it now and it runs fine but id like to put it back on the road with a diesel. I was leaning towards a cummins M11 because of its size and lighter weight but came across a 1990 Volvo,White, gmc with a 11.1 ddec2 60 series detroit for a decent price. I even thought about body swap to the newer chassis.
11.1 an ok engine? maybe another engine i should look for?

DRESSER TD9H No drive on one side

Hi guys,

I have a Dresser TD9H has almost 10 thousand hours on it. Something definitely broke inside somewhere. My operator was running machine and the one side quite working. When we did load it on the tailer it sounded really bad down in the tranny, like it was grinding up gears or something. We also had some steering trouble with it this spring so we adjusted the nuts/ brakes on it and it seemed to help but it still wasn't quite good enough... Not sure if its the tranny or not but I'm guessing. Would I be better off getting it rebuilt or getting a used tranny from someone. Where is a good place for parts or even a good mechanic for these machines.

Thanks, Leroy

Cat 160M

My Cat 160M B9E282 grader is changing up and down gears while working. Seems to get worse as transmission gets warmer. Will change up for a minute or so then go back down.
I am guessing it is a electrical problem, it is not throwing any fault codes but. Machine has 9500 hrs on it.
Any one got any ideas.

Alarm?

Hi All,
This is my fist post and I'm fairly new to heavy equipment. I'm driving for someone else a Cat 730 rock truck, it has an alarm going off and the flashing symbol on the dash is a circle with two arrows inside pointing at a small dot in the centre.

We don't have a manual and I haven't been able to find anything online so far.

Does anyone know what this symbol is and the fix for it ?

Thanks in advance,

Dale

2011 case sr250 control issues

Has anyone got any first hand experience with the controls in the 2011 case skid steers? Mine are erratic, ie, jumpy movements, keeps moving for half a second after controls are released, moves way more then you expect with little input etc. I've tried adjusting the sensitivity and all the settings through the computer with no improvement. It never really feels like you are controlling it just guiding it.

My 2006 case 450 I could pick my nose with it, this one you are lucky to load a pallet in a truck without hitting it.

My local dealer says that's just how the 11's are and wants to sell me a new one.

There must be some fix, 2012 reflash? Other ideas?

I like the skidsteer otherwise just would like to have some control over it

Thanks in advance

JD 450 Stop Moving/Fair purchase price?

I am thinking about buying a older model JD 450 dozer with 6 way blade from a farmer; however, the owner was moving it from one location to another under its own power and it quit moving. First question, does anyone know what this could be? Clutch perhaps or are there any other things to be suspicious of why it stopped moving...I spoke with the owner and he mentioned that sometimes it would hesitate to move but would eventually start moving? Second question, what will be a fair purchase price for this broken dozer? ....hydraulics and engine are fine.

Cat 314 track adjuster out of alignment-- what is likely the cause/

Hi,
I have a CAT 314 LCR that I bought used last August. I bought it to clear farmland.
I am not a professional excavator-- I have about 3-400 hours excavating on my farm during the past 5 years on 3 different machines. Mainly land clearing and tiling.

Anyways, I was digging a wide (five feet) long (2400ftJ) utility ditch for a neighbor about 3 weeks ago, and it was a bit of a rush to avoid cave-ins, so I didn't keep the tracks clean. When I did clean the tracks one time-- I noticed the rear carrier roller on the left side had a bent shaft, and I also noticed that I couldn't adjust the track tension on the left. When I got the machine back to my shop I cleaned the machine and then replaced the bad carrier roller-- the shaft was bent down maybe twenty degrees. As I kept inspecting the left track (the adjuster), I discovered that the adjuster cylinder piston was not sitting on the head of the bolt that goes down the center of the adjuster spring--- it was sitting on the ring/washer that covers the back end of the spring. The cylinder does not appear to be bent-- it looks like maybe the spring was pushed sideways (maybe by a rock or just too much heavy clay). Anyways, unscrewing the grease release bolt on the cylinder does not release any grease-- I can't see that anything else is bent or broken.
Can someone tell me what has happened? --Just guessing, but at some point during my recent project the track must have been subjected to extreme tension to bend the carrier idler down-- did this also cause the problem I still have with the tension adjuster?
Please let me know if I am not being clear about the problem--
I have the parts manuel and the shop manuel--
Thanks in advance for the help-- I'm anxious to get back at clearing some land!
Bob

Another Drott 40 Track issue

I'm considering the purchase of a 1985 case drott 40 excavator. It has 5326 hours and has been sitting for a bit. The motor was rebuilt 10 years ago. It's sitting on a ranch near where I live. If I can get it fired up without any issues, I know one of the tracks will not engage. The owner seems to think that one of the valves is stuck but based on what I've read it seems more likely to be a "broken shaft" issue? It's a fairly clean excavator. I would use it to clear my ranch of maple trees. It has the detroit 6v71 motor in it and again it has been at least a year since it ran. I will be able to get it for somewhere between $3-4k. What will it cost me to get that track fixed and is it worth the hassle?Name: IMG_3038.jpg Views: 1 Size: 44.8 KB

International Harvester 584 won't move

Hello every one I have an IH 584 that won't move in any gear except the lowest gear and then it's a painfully slow creap. Its the same for foward and reverse. It has a loader on it that will still works great as does raising and lowering an extremely heavy box blade. I don't think it is sticking breaks as it seems to roll just fine on a hill out of gear. I replaced the hydro fluid and filter with no effect. So am i correct in believing I can assume it's the transmission? Thank you in advance.

Case 95xt lifting arms falling?

So at work today, i get a skidsteer in and its a case 95xt. Customer complains of liftings arms falling slowly but when you use the bucket tilt the arms fall faster. Even when you dead head the bucket rolled back it falls. 95xt has auto leveling but our old a$$ service manual has no hydraulic schematic in it. I pulled the check valves for a1,b1 through a3,b3 and all looked ok. B1 check valve was a little corse feeling and i cleaned it with a rough brillow pad and it smooth now. Pulled the main relief valve for the hydraulic valve assembly and it was a little dirty but fine, cleaned with brake clean and inspected and installed. Checked all functions and symptoms are still there. I would like to get to work tomorrow with some idea of what to check and where. I know the self or auto leveling can cause problems but im not sure what to check on it to find out.
I was a transportation vehicle mechanic in the army and am now learning construction maintenance with case IH or CNH which ever you prefer to call it. Please help. Any ideas of what to check and how would be appreciated. I am a mechanic so you dont have to break it down barney style but do give some detail to location of valves or check valves in description. I have all the tools i need and can flow test tomorrow if you want to know that but im pretty sure hydraulic pressure and flow is fine.

Millions in damages.

I haven't seen anything on here so far, and I'm just wondering what the general feelings towards this pipeline debacle are in other areas of the country. This issue is very polarizing, but as long as we follow the rules and leave the political blame and race issues out of the discussion, maybe we could get a more definite idea on where the majority of the country stands than you could get off FB or the national media. I live here, about a 100 miles from the zone, and in my area, the majority wants nothing more than for the pipe to get in the ground.

Please respect Mr. Frazier's rules if you want to comment.

valve adjustments, good idea? by clock or by feel?

So have a 6466T Deere 644E loader, rather going from top to bottom on the machine and well its a little persnickety to start up when its cold, 28 degrees, it'll crank for 3 seconds before one cyl starts to pick up, then picking up one more and one more. I'll pause cranking at 5 or 6 seconds, let it heat soak for a few seconds then crank again, usually about 10 seconds of cranking before it lights off with 4 or 5 and runs until 6 comes in.

when its running it purrs like a kitten, okay a really big happy kitten, huff of smoke if you give it the throttle like a typical engine coming on power. The machine has 25000 hours and the inspector that looked it over suspects its been rebuilt. I haven't seen a lot of threads of folks diving in to adjust valves, seems to be an easy enough job, pull the hood, air cleaner, muffler, air cleaner mount, breather and valve cover and you're in like flynn. JD like everyone else lists the timing spots and plugs and lines and which valves to adjust when.. Usually I'll do one cyl at a time, crank it over until its just around tdc and adjust that one, move back to the next, repeat.

Do folks do it by the hourmeter or just if its running rough? I know adjusting the kubota valves cured a lot of smoke and vibration at all settings.

Kubota KX71 with mowing attachments: Can't move while mowing?

Hello! I've been really enjoying my KX71-3 Mini Excavator. It's perfect for my small tasks around my property. Up until now, I've only been using it for digging and pushing.

I purchased a sickle bar attachment from Skidsteer Solutions, which looked to be perfect for a few cutting areas (especially along the side of the road).

I've installed it, but I noticed I basically can't move forward without complete loss of cutting power. Just touching the track controls a little will steal all the power from the auxiliary port. Is this expected?

Am I supposed to be making an adjustment somewhere to support these types of attachments? I added quick release fittings onto my thumb and attached the sickle bar attachment there. I thought that's all I needed to do!

Attempts to try and use a slightly lower flow on the sickle bar (using the aux flow controls) basically won't even move the cutters with anything less than max flow. This doesn't seem right...

Any guidance appreciated. The bar does move quite well when standing perfectly still and slowing swiping left to right, so I can make some progress cutting. But to really use it I need to be moving along the side of the driveway while cutting.

Re-skin blade

The blade face on my D6 is worn very thin and I've repaired it in several places so I think it's due for a re-skin.

When you do it, do you cut all the old skin off? I'm thinking I probably need to since there wouldn't be much weld to on the old.
Someone has added a heavy push plate in the center, which will have to come off anyway, and the angled end sections have also been plated over.

What kind of material should I use and how thick? Something like 5/16"? There is a local shop that builds tank trailers and they have a large plate roller. Not sure if that's the best way, or if I should find someone that could "bump bend" a sheet on a brake press. With a plate roller I'd think you would have to make it extra wide since I don't think it will roll a curve completely the the edge of a plate.

Hey guys, just kind of wondering what some of you guys use to get codes off or class 4 and up trucks. Looking to buy something but seeing a lot of reviews some saying gives wrong codes, or won't connect....
Just trying to get an opinion on what's the best bang for my buck. Also like I said, code reader, not a full blown scan tool. Trying to keep it under $500. Looked into FCar 502 and OTC HD scanner.

Take home work

Questions for other independent field mechanics out there: Do you have a shop that you operate out of? What size building do you have, how much work is performed inside, and is it sufficient? Is there a need for space to take in a customer's machine occasionally?
The reason I'm asking is I want to stay mobile and don't want a bunch of heavy traffic down my road along with an accumulation of machines. However, I'm looking to build a small shop as a base to house my service truck, supplies, and an area for component rebuild, minor fabrication, etc. I also have a customer or two that don't have shops to use when repairs are required to be done inside. All my customers until now are construction outfits so I'm not working on anything huge yet. I don't want to build unnecessary space for a shop that requires heat more than half the year, not to mention construction costs. Should I plan for receiving a customer's machine into my own shop or just make other arrangements as needed and keep it smaller? I plan on remaining a one man show, so no expansion necessary in the future.
I'm curious to know what other field mechanics are doing in regards to work at home.

International 250b

lundi 28 novembre 2016

I sold my JD 555 with a 4:1 bucket two years too soon! We ended up buying another place that's 7 acres of yard and 81 acres of trees. I'm planning some work (clearing a few acres, building a tractor road, and probably another pond if the geology allows) that's too big for my little JD 350 so I've been searching for a much larger machine. I had a JD 555 and I'm sure that would even be too small. I'm looking to spend under 15K, so an older, used machine it will be. I'm not afraid of wrenching (had to rebuild most of the 350's rear end) but I also don't want a "fix it more than use it" machine. Been there. So, in the search I found what looks like a potential good buy. It's an International 250b, 200 hours on a rebuilt engine, and a Drott 4:1. I've spoken with the owner and he doesn't know a lot about it, he's had it for a few years and put about 100 hrs on it. Claims it runs great and has plenty of power, From the photo I've seen it looks to be in excellent shape. I can't imagine it has the original paint, but the loader still has the "Drott Skid Loader" sign! It looks like it's been stored inside for the last 45 years. I'll be looking at it this weekend and measuring the undercarriage wear and checking what I can. I know that parts for these old beauties are really hard to find and are pricey, but for 10K delivered..... Am I delusional? I'm set on a 4:1 loader and they're hard to find in these parts. Just passed up on a Cat 955L with 8900 hours going for 14,500 (and going up!). The 955 looked like it had been rode hard. I'm not in a big hurry, but if the 250b is a good buy I'd rather not pass it up. I've put 250 hours on my 350, I can't imagine I'll put more than 500 to 1000 on whatever I get, so I'm not too concerned with undercarriage condition, as long as it's not throwing tracks! Any 250 owners out there-- I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Hey from the Ozarks

Seems like whenever I'm searching for answers this forum always shows up and I end up getting lost reading, so I thought it's high time I joined! I have an old, but very reliable, gasser JD 350 crawler loader with a backhoe attachment, a 1973 C65 dump truck, and an assortment of other toys. Had, and sold, a JD 555 crawler loader and a classic knuckle-buster Cat 112 motor grader. Looking for another, bigger, toy.... Usually fires right up. It was sitting for 3 Months. I should have first charged the batteries. It sputtered a few times before the batteries would not crank. Then with charged batteries, it cranked fine, but nothing. Them slightly above freezing, Fuel shut off solenoid is working. I/2 full tank, I topped if off, I should have done that a long time ago, so that the tank would not internally sweat. I also added Anti Gel & 911. Just Not firing. I do not want to cook starter.

Should I try staring fluid, What's recommended?
Recommendations appreciated?

I checked out the better offering from superwinch and the price for a 9500# is around $700.00. the bad is the $175.00 they want for the mounting plate, which looks very simple. I am not real interested in looks I just want function and affordability. I welcome any ideas on winch mounting and mount fabrication. I was able to pump it back tight, marked the position as shown in photo, operated for aprox. 10 minutes and the tensioner has moved back about 1/8 in.
I then opened the bleeder and grease did flow out, and from the picture you can see that tensioner moved back about 1 inch more.
So now I have both tracks jacked up and loader on blocks. I found the alligator type master link and rotated track to a position I thought might be good for taking track apart.
I have searched and read all I could find on this subject but it’s not clear to me what all needs to be taken apart.
This will be the first time I have split tracks or repaired track tensioner, and before I start I have a few questions:
1.What is best location of track position to spilt track, and do I just simply remove 4 bolts holding the pad that has the plus molded on it?
2. After track is split do I pull idler forward to end of rail to remove yoke shaft from cylinder asy.?
3. Will removing the 4 bolts on seal cover allow me to remove seals?
4. How do I access the cylinder #18 in parts diagram? And is it necessary to remove #18?
5. Does anyone have access to service manual and procedure? I know I need to purchase one but just cannot at this time.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

hein werner C 10

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site. I've enjoyed reading the comments and have learned a few things as well. I recently purchased a Hein Werner C 10. I have only seen one of these. I would really appreciate any info on these machines. Such as weight, production numbers, popularity stuff like that. There is a valve on the side of the cab. I haven't been able to figure out what it's supposed to do. It currently does nothing. Has anyone seen a valve like this on left side of cab. Next to operator seat. I will post pictures of machine and valve if I can. Thanks for any help you can provide.

941 Bevel Gear/ Steering Clutch Compartment Refil Capacity?

Name: 941 Capcities.jpg Views: 2 Size: 73.1 KB

My parts book for the 941 Loader, Ser# 80H2988 shows a refill cap of 18 US quarts & I wonder if that is a mis- print? It seems to me when we changed the oil back when we got the machine that it was much more than 18 quarts shown in the parts book. It is a genuine Cat parts book too.

I plan to draw some oil off & put some #10 in the mix, as when it gets colder I notice the steering clutches are not releasing as well as they did in the warm weather.

Looking for small grader suggestion

I need a smaller grader to grade several miles of narrow road in the mountains. A lot of hills with frequent pitch changes. I would assume the graders with the wider tires would not be the best option...less traction when trying to cut???

Also would like something with a cab for cold winter months.

Price point would probably be around 40k.

I would like something pre emission, but not too old....looking for a good reliable machine.

Any suggestions?

Build up pins with weld

I'm re bushing a small machine (210 Hitachi) and now in pieces it is apparent that the main stick pin in groved quite severely where it passes through the bucket coupler. I will try to upload an image shortly...
Due to time and supply restraints I cannot simply replace the pin. I will be building it up with wed and taking back to round.
My question to the knowledgeable collective is what sort of rod should I use?
As always, a big thank you in advance for all opinions and thoughts shared

Vermeer V3550A trencher problems

Hi all. I'm new to the forum. I've been looking for some help in relation to a trencher I own, and after reading a lot of post on this site it seems everyone is very knowledgeable so I'm hoping to get some help.

Long story short, I bought a older Vermeer V3550A ride on trencher a few years ago for some work around our property, as well as to use for jobs as needed (very rarely). I got a good deal on the machine, and it only needed some minor repairs and TLC. It had been sitting for a few years and had vines growing around it, but cleaned it off and started right up with a fresh battery. I got it home, cleaned it up, serviced it, and changed a few hoses and it was ready to work. Machine has less than 1500 HRS on it and overall in really good shape, with the exception of some surface rust and faded paint.

It had a slight issue with the gas pedal (single pedal which controls both), but was usable as is so I didn't bother with it. Over time it has gotten worse and no has come to the point of needing to be resolved. The machine has a neutral indicator switch with a light, which has to be lit to start. Usually, I just have to tap on the pedal forward/reverse some and the light will usually come right on. But last time I could not get the light to come on, so I had to bypass the switch (unplugged, bypassed with small wire between circuits) to get it to start. The forward and reverse on the pedal have always been touchy and sometimes delayed. I have checked all of the linkages and nothing seems to be looser than expected or wallowed out.

At this point, I figured the switch was not the issue. The reverse works good for the most part with the exception of still being touchy, but the forward is what I'm having issues with now. I'll have to push the petal forward and back 2-3 times before the machine will finally start moving forward. When in motion, the machine drives fine until it is stopped.

Any help or advise is greatly appreciated!

New pains when rains!

Well is raining today, the worse it gets the worse my low dull backache gets, so much for surgery, I am now a weathervane!! Right hand is healing well, at least as far as I cannot see it. Does not appear to have much swelling nor any active harsh pain just stitch line itch and pull. Stitches come out Friday where I can actually see the new wound from carpal tunnel repair. At least that no longer puts my thumb and first two fingers to sleep now. I itch to get back to moving spoil from grade work and getting the last of the yard behind the house raked out/seeded, is driving me nuts but cannot go there as would be considered a abuse of company sick leave I am on.

2010 cat 304C CR fuel injectors

dimanche 27 novembre 2016

so I had a bad electrical connector on my fuel solenoid valve and the engine wouldn't shut off with the key.. had to use the pull ring.. lived with it for a week and finally got a chance to fix it... the operators seat needs to be removed to access the solenoid valve.. so while I repaired that part, as well as my HVAC issue from the other post, I noticed one fuel injector had a bunch of rusty looking crud around the base of it.. the other 3 were clean.. I'm assuming it's either loose or the base gasket is bad..

I'm not sure which system these injectors use, tight, or gasket.. the engine runs flawless, has roughly 2300 hours and the injectors have never been out.. certainly not high time but I'm toying with the idea of just getting 4 new injectors and replacing all of them.. input anyone?

2007 310SJ Parking brake won't release

When I fire up the backhoe, the park brake will intermittently release when using the unlock switch. Every now and then it will release on the first attempt. Sometimes nothing will happen and I will get a "park brake circuit failure"(522398.14) code. A couple times I have got it to release by using the outriggers to lift the rear tires off of the ground and then try the switch again. Whatever it is it seems to be getting more temper mental and not allowing me to unlock no matter what I try. I've also tried moving the machine slightly with the loader bucket to release any tension on the driveline. As far as I can tell the wiring to the sensor on top of the rear diff appears to be in good shape and the plug is tight and secure. The switch itself seems to be in good working order because it will always engage the park brake and always attempts to unlock it. I don't know how the park brake system works on these and any info or troubling shooting tips is greatly appreciated. I thought about just replacing the sensor on the diff but would rather not throw parts at it unless its needed.

Help picking a name!!

Hey guys been awhile since I've posted but I could use some insight on what others think about my ideas.

I've been working for others for the last 8 years and I've always planned on one day striking out on my own and I think it is time to pull the trigger. Anyways it's time to register my company name with the government so I can get a tax number but I'm having a hell of a time deciding on a name.

I wish it was as easy as calling it Steve Gingras excavating but it is a French name and I live in a mostly English area. Most people can't even pronounce it and end up saying jingrass or Gingrass when it's actually pronounced jenngra if that makes any sense lol

anyways I just don't think it works and I want the name to be easy for people to say so I've come up with either SG excavating and landscaping or Landex excavating & landscaping and a couple logos to go along with them and figured I'd ask the pros on here for some input.

Thanks in advance for you're feedback

What's a diverter valve for?

My new to me dump truck has push pull air valve with a label that says diverter valve. It doesn't appear to be a factory valve but I'm not sure what it does? I thought it might be to lock all the wheels like a diff lock but not sure.

Wasting time to clean the track roller frame?

With things pretty slow here let me ask an easy one. I frequently get into 2 or 3 inches of water and mud with a Bobcat E35i. Cleaning the mud and grass off of the track roller frame at the end of the day is not too difficult; but does take some time and it can be messy. What harm might result from leaving the fresh mud in place, aside from potential of it freezing as the night temperatures drop this winter and locking the tracks?

Volvo EC240B turn table leak

The turn table on my 240b will fill up with hyrdrolic oil and when machine tilts it pours right out. Can anyone tell me if that's the swing motor leaking or what would be a possible leak to be in the turn table. I'm afraid it's washing all the grease out of the slew bearing.( I think that's what u call the big bearing that the machine spins on). Any help I would apreaciat.

Case 580K year Serial number

Name: IMG_3573.jpg Views: 0 Size: 28.8 KB

I have a question regarding the serial number/vintage of my Case 580K Construction King.
There is a plate on the left side of the steering column which has the following information:

Product ID
580K
*1 741976

ROPS
*12201220*

These numbers do not seem to correspond to any of the numbers being thrown around on all of the related websites.
It seems there was a significant change where the serial numbers started to start with JJG but I cannot find any list that covers the apparent serial number on my machine.

Seems that the parts are before/after JJG so I need to know what I have.
Does anyone have any helpful information?

Thanks in advance.

D6r transmission problems

I recently purchased a d6r lgp Sn prefix ADE
I bought it knowing the transmission was slipping in reverse. I had a local shop work on it and they ran some pressure checks which all was within normal and recalabrated the transmission and it started working normal. they cleared all codes and I took it and put it on the job ,it ran fine for first day then it started to have a delay and hard shift going into reverse when it was cold. the next day basically the same thing but got worse and it would slip in second reverse then it finally completely lost reverse completely. the only code it has thrown was 030. I am thinking it is a wiring problem or the modulating valve for reverse. they seem to think it is the ecm they said the solenoids usually go out and never return like this one did. I have no service manual yet or wiring schematic to do any checking of solenoids. I have not found a used manual yet on the net can someone suggest the best place besides cat to buy one either actual hard copy or PDF. also could someone post a picture of the modulating valves and which ones are engaged in forward gears and reverse gears. This is a real nice dozer it has 9000 hrs on it and ran great when we put it on the job it will replace my d6c so I also need opinions on what software I should buy to do repairs on the engine and transmission since I do most of my own wrenching. Is cat et the only available software for the machine or are their other options.
thanks in advance any help would be appreciated .

Kato HD450VII - Engine stopped and now won't turn over

I have a 1994 Kato HD450VII. It has the Mitsubishi 4D31T engine. It's now got 9500 hours on it and I have owned/used it for the last 11 years. I look after the machine/grease the fittings/change oils regularly.

I last did an engine oil and filters change around 20 hours ago. Yesterday, having run the machine for 4 hours, it just died on me.:( I was just moving it and it stopped on a slight decline. It now won't even turn over, but I hear some clicking at the starter relay (but not at the starter itself). All the gauges come on, but I don;t hear the fuel pump activate. Should I? The batteries were last replaced 12 months ago and I had them on charge for 12 hours each. Each one is showing 12.7 volts. I have no clue about cranking amps., but I don't think they are the problem.

I ran a wire direct from the batteries to the 24V starter motor and this is what I found:
When I touch the top contact/nut, the Stop solenoid rod retract.
When I touch the bottom contact/nut, I hear the motor spinning.
When I touch them both together, I hear the motor spinning and see the stop solenoid rod retract. I had hope to hear the engine crank.

I was worried that the engine may have seized, so I put a wrench on the crankshaft pulley nut and was able to rotate. It wasn't very easy or very hard to turn. Checked the dipstick and the oil looks pretty clean.

I have the engine manual, parts manual, service manual, multi meter and a decent wife who doesn't mind offering a second pair of hands.

What am I missing?

Thanks, David

Line Boring

Hello, Im a younger fella from eastern ohio that is super interested in learning how to line bore. I am a mechanic by trade and have a strong backround in welding also. I have not the slightest clue on where to even start on learning how to bore. I worked at a CAT dealership, until I got laid off, when I worked for the dealer they had their own partnered company that come in to do all the bore work, so we didn't do it ourselves. I was just curious on how other members on this site that line bore got started and learned how to do it?

Thanks!!

JCB 1400 ,Think I ran out of fuel, now won't start.... any tips?

I have a 1987 JCB 1400 with turbo Perkins. I think I was an idiot and ran it out of fuel. I was pushing some dirt and she just shut off, like right now, no sputtering or anything, just stopped. I knew it was time to fuel up but just wanted to get finished..
I will start by saying , I am a novice and this is for home projects and I do not know much about the machine.I added fuel, bled the screw on top of filter, bled the bleeder on top of inject. pump, bled 2 lines at injectors. She does not even act like it wants to start, just cranks.
I would like to add, the pump lever never really felt like it was doing a lot, i bumped the engine numerous times, would feel some better resistance for about 2 pumps then the only real resistance was at the bottom of the stroke of the lever. Not even sure if my bleeding was correct, the bleeders would just kind of seep fuel out of them, not a good squirt, but did not see signs of air when i closed them. The only good air bleed was at the injectors while engine was cranked.
One manual i have says bleed the "start assist screw", i think that is what it was called. I am not certain where this is and whether it could be the problem.

On another note, being it never even acted like it wanted to fire, I wonder if it could be a switch or wire or something that popped loose. Any way to determine if it is a fuel problem for sure or if it could be a switch of sorts?

Appreciate any help.

john deere 310a transmission pump

now that i,ve removed the engine to replace the crankshaft,i would really like to get at the transmission charge pump to inspect the pump and the associated lines and seals.ever since owning this machine,it has always had symptons of low charge pressure. after changing both filters, and making sure the screen was clean,it still has only about 50 lbs. of pressure on the low side when i had a gauge on it.it really looks like a pain to get at those parts, so i was wondering if anyone could give me some helpful pointers, thanks

CAT 973D? Right machine?

OK so need some advice since I have no experience with track loaders. Not real popular in this area, CAT dealer doesn't even have one around for us to sit in or try out. We have a particularly wet sewer job coming up. We currently use wheel loaders on all of our jobs and they do pretty good. On the wetter sites they can be a pain. On the wettest jobs in heavy clay they get almost unusable. This job and a few others we have in that area for next year look bad. My thought is to use the 973 to keep the stone boxes full for the excavator and to string pipe out. Will also use it to move mud mats around, backfill, grade out the site, etc. They are pricey but if it can get the material moved efficiently in the sloppy soils it will be worth it I think. I want to set the 973D up with a quick coupler, 5yd GP bucket and forks. How do you guys think this machine will work for this type of application? How fast do the track loaders go? Will it be too slow for material handling on site like I am talking about? Thank you.

Terex 8230

I've been looking at a 8230 Dozer that has been sunk down in the dirt and sits in water when it rains. We got it running yesterday after being idle for 20 plus years,Good old 671 fired up with a little help from a shot of starting fluid and now the problem is the tracks are froze up. ring compressor

Well my old piston ring compressor broke when we were installing piston's on one of my engines over the weekend, seeing how its nearly 70 years old and been used quite a bit, though I'd ask some questions as to what to get for a new one. A buddy of mine told me to buy the tapered style compressor's to fit the bore and just shove the piston in, another guy told me to buy another universal band style.

So a quick search on the internet provided me with far too many options, so can anyone tell me what you guys like to use?

I did a quick count on all the different model and sizes of engine I have around, not counting identical engines, like 5.9 or 8.3 cummins, which I have quite a few of each of, I came up with over 40 and just quit counting.

Compactor or Breaker kindest to carrier?

Hello Guys

I'm considering a Breaker or Compactor (maybe I should say Hammer or Hoe-pac for you North American folks since I'm in "your house") to use for driving posts in my fencing operation, sorta like the guys are discussing in this thread http://ift.tt/2fEqwhr

My question is - which is kinder to the carrier (breakers are common here and everyone I know avoids using them on their machines if they can) and why, and is one or the other kinder to the operator (all other things being equal)?

And if anyone can tell me which would be more efficient and why I'd love to hear that too.

It might be worth noting that I work in an area with soft gound, and my excavator is an IHI 25NX-2 which gives nearly 12 gpm at 2610 psi.

Thanks

samedi 26 novembre 2016

My new to me truck with an M11 was losing prime and would start and run for 20-30 seconds then die. Then it would have to crank a while and need a couple shots of starting fluid to get it going again. Didn't think it had a check valve in the cooler plate and was going to get a new one but the guy at the Cummins dealer said to check to make sure there isn't some other problem as a new check valve is $132! I took a closer look and it did have a check valve so I took it out and it was stuck open. Cleaned and blew it out with an air gun and some crud came out. It seemed to be working properly so put it back in and got the truck started. Hopefully tomorrow it will start and keep running. It's one of those things where I'm glad I found it was stuck open. My fingers are crossed I solved the problem and it didn't cost anything but a few minutes.

How to calibrate Joystick Genie Z60-34 year 2002

Dear all,
We have 1 issue with Genie Z60/34 year 2002. The main boom joystick has problem with boom up function. Other functions work normally.
We tried to calibrate the joystick as mentioned in the manual.
However, after calibrating, the joystick didn't work (all functions of the joystick didn't work).:Banghead
We didn't hear any error alarm. We haven't checked the fault code yet. But we don't know how to check the fault code.
To make short, as the moment we have the main boom joystick doesn't work. Other functions work normally. The ground control works normally.
I hope someone can give us advice since our technicians have never worked on newer model before (most of our machines are year 2000 models).

Elevation Calculations

I've been using site levels and lasers for years now. I'm fairly well versed with them. However, I am currently working on a project that has me stumped.

I have 4 catch basins with 24" storm drain in a line. I am trying to find the elevation of each catch basin.

My benchmark is set at 157.91. If I set the benchmark on my laser rod and it's set at 3.25(for example), if my 1st basin shoots a 4.50 on my rod, I calculate the difference of 1.25. I then subtract 1.25 from 157.91 and get the elevation of 156.66 for my 1st basin. My question is, if my 2nd basin shoots a 5.50 on my rod, do I subtract the difference between 4.50 - 5.50(1.0)from my original benchmark, or do I subtract it from my 1st box elevation of 156.66?

I really hope this makes sense as it's kind of hard to explain.

Anybody? Thanks a bunch in advance.

Deere 850J Trimble blade control

Looking at a 850j coming up on an auction and I believe they ran a Trimble scb 21 controller on it. How exactly do they systems work? I have never been around a laser blade control system. Most work would be terrace building so I'm not sure if it would be much of an advantage to me. The laser would be nice to see if the ridge of a terrace was to grade but climbing the back of a terrace would pitch the machine and blade back quite a bit so I imagine that would give incorrect readings. Any advice is appreciated thanks

Skid Steer winter rental prices

I was renting a nice wheeled 70hp wheeled skid steer for $800 a moth with a 5 moth agreement.
The dealer has since sold the wheeled machine and is not going to replace it.
Everyone I have checked with is coming in at around $2000 a month with 5 month agreement for a winter rental.

Just wondering what everyone else is pay for winter rental on a skid steer.

Side note: the original dealer will still rent me a tracked Takeuchi for the same $800 a month rate but they are awful in winter and I don't really want to buy a set of winter tracks for a rental.

Allis Chalmers HD21P Dozer Steering Issues

We have an Allis Chalmers HP21P Dozer that if it sits for a week or more, when you go to use it, it won't steer. We have taken the lines off the steering clutch filter housing inlet side and poured oil in there, and after working the steering clutch handles you can get it to prime and then it is ok and if you run it every few days it will be ok but if you let it sit a week or more you have to repeat the process once it is working it is fine. Where course of action should I take to remedy this issue.

I just joined the forum. First post. I did a search but couldn't find exactly what I am looking for.

My current challenge is I need to change the stepper motor on my zx160. The existing one is jammed up with a broken gear. I would like to verify the learn sequence procedure. IH DT466 EGR coughed/surged and no start

So I don't have a lot to offer most of you guys as I mostly do any mechanical/hydraulic work as kind of a hobby and my money making ventures are all with wood but I enjoy getting my hands greasy.

This is the quintessential "keep it simple stupid" thread.

I digress. So one of my work trucks is an '05 international 4300 DT466egr with the 5 speed Allison, great truck for the most part. I was going to pick up a planer I had bought for my shop and took the big truck, it kind of surged about 5 miles from my shop and didn't have any other issues on the way.

Got to the machinery guy and picked up the planer, no problems. BS'd with him for a bit while the truck idled... No problems. Drove 300 yards down the street, truck surged, coughed, hiccuped, and did everything else to seem like it was being absolutely starved of fuel and then jolted back.

I pulled to the side and shut'er down and waited a bit thinking maybe icp sensor went bad and wouldn't run when oil was hot. Anyhow, no go, had to get it towed to my place. I've spent the past 4 days reading up on the heui injectors and replacing, diagnosing and checking everything I could without the really expensive software.

First things first, check the fuses in the box... All good.

Next was the fuel filter, didn't look too bad but the prime pump was absolutely shot, thought I had it early. Not so fast, replaced and no better.

I took the doghouse off(which is basically similar to hell if you are intending to keep everything in tact). Trying to stay away from having to take the valve cover off I checked the exterior injector harness, it had a ton of chaffed insulation near the plugs. Replaced it, not an easy fix getting around the injector male ends but after about an hour (that's embarrassing to admit) I had the new harness and ready to rock... Except it was just more crank with no fire.... Engine was like a crackhead without a lighter.

On to the check hpop. And IPR valve with temp sensor trick. Pulled the temp sensor, and about cried when I saw it had oil in the reservoir and the IPR worked when directly applied 12v... Certainly bad hpop, certainly expensive and probably something I don't want to tackle. With unplugging ICM and IPR valve working I was absolutely positive it was the expensive pump.

Injectors all ohmed out okay. No leaks in the seals.

Decided today to just go over some little things I might not have paid attention to. The more I dug the more baffled I got. Decided to just take a peak in the battery box because I charged them yesterday (mine is underneath the drivers side door and a bank of 4 because it runs an inverter). It has 3 big fuses... One was completely melted. Whole problem right there in a $1 40amp fuse. (You can't see me but I'm crying from both joy and anger right now).

Just figured I'd give you guys a little heads up if you don't already know, if your 4300 is starved for fuel and won't crank just K.I.S.S. the damn thing before you get in too deep.

Please help with Lull 644 Highlander 2

Really hoping someone out there can help me with a vintage Lull 644 Highlander 2 I just purchased for help building our log home.

Here are my specs:
Lull 644 TT-34 Highlander 2
Serial #: P-118N
Engine Serial #: LD 33470 - U500588V

These are my current issues that I can't seem to get answers to anywhere (including my local dealer who is stumped :**)

1. My serial # (which Lull as confirmed as valid) seems to pre-date any known digital record, so I can't figure out what year it is. The dealer tells me to use the manual that was last printed in 1994, but the manual only refers to machines made in 1986 and beyond. My serial number isn't available in this manual so it's a bit tough. Guy I bought it from thought it was an 84' but wasn't sure. Anyone have any ideas to identifying my machine correctly?

2. After busting a hose in the inner boom that controls the forks, I figured out that the entire cable assembly that manages the hoses was non-operational and missing parts. I've ordered the missing parts (hopefully - since were working from a questionable manual) from my local dealer, but neither of us can figure out where exactly one end of the cable attaches. The drawing shows the routing of the cable through the three separate pulleys, and I found the anchor point on the front pulley for one end of the cable, BUT the other end of the cable is just shown "floating" out in space. No amount of research to this point has helped me determine where to anchor this piece to. Does anyone have any ideas? Any owners out there with a similar machine that would be willing to send a picture?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Admittedly, I know more about women than mechanics (and that ain't much!) but there's got to be a way to figure this out. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Bobcat T190 aux function random engagement

I have a 2013 bobcat t190 with about 900 hours on it. Been working flawlessly but now if I hook up any of my attachments that require aux functions like my auger, grapple etc once I turn aux on it activates and is fine I use my left and right switch to say open or close my grapple and it works then if I let go of button it will either open or close randomly and usually will dead head. This happens with no buttons pushed what so ever. Same on my auger if I push to the right and it digs fine I let go and it reverses and then stops then starts to reverse again all while no buttons being pushed. Back to the grapple I have teeth wide open driving across yard they will randomly close and keep trying to close causing it to dead head. And some times it does it the opposite way. Need some help. It def seems like an electrical issue. Everything operates perfectly until it does this auto reverse type thing

Bobcat 753 Can't lower or tilt up bucket

I have a 753 that wont lower or allow me to tilt up the bucket. I can "bleed off" the pressure to lower the arms with the red knobbed relief valve but can't get the bucket to tilt up. The BICS indicators are all showing green with no blinking lights. When you push the green button you hear the brake solenoid "clunk" but the bucket stays up. The operating controls don't, can't relieve the fluid. Could it be the lockout solenoid not operating properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Larry in East China Mi.

2010 cat 304 CCR heater fan

I've had this machine since new, and have found in winter with heat, or summer with A/C, the fan doesn't move much air... I've been working on it today and have the interior pretty much ripped out of it so I thought it would be a good time to investigate.. the fan functions on all 3 speeds and I removed the inlet filter to preclude that being an issue.. there is a very dismal amount of flow coming out the discharge end and it actually seems to blow out a bit at the filter , where in fact it should be sucking..

any input would be appreciated

I checked the fluid level and it was fine. Even added some to get it above the full mark.....no change. Any thoughts? Thanks.

1969 Case 580CK Transmission with Mechanical Shuttle (Use Clutch) Questions

My 580CK has the 4 speed manual shifter with the hi-low shifter and the mechanical column mounted shuttle to move forward and reverse by use of the clutch. No reverse gear selection on the 4 speed shifter plate....you select your 1- 4 gear with clutch pushed in and either have the mechanical shuttle in forward or reverse and when you let the clutch out you are working. Stop... Push clutch in and move shuttle to reverse to back up etc...

I dug for a hour or so and drove back to the barn and parked. When I started it a week later the clutch does not seem to work ....I can start it but when I try to have the clutch in and move the mechanical forward reverse shuttle it want to grind gears. I can shut it off, and use the shuttle shifter to put it in forward or reverse and start it and it starts in gear moving as it starts but pressing the clutch in does nothing. The strange thing is that if I put a bit of pressure on the mechanical shuttle either forward or reverse it trys to move the tractor slightly..... creeps it....with or without clutch pressed but the pressing in of the clutch doesn't let me mesh the gears on the shuttle. I split this tractor a few years ago when the engine was rebuilt (159 gasser that runs like new) and put a new clutch in. So the disc is not the issue.

I am wondering if the mechanical shifter synco is the possible culprit . The service manual and parts book show one and it seems to me that the clutch allows me to select a gear in the tray but not allow the mechanical shuttle to engage. I am trying to get a grasp on how that shuttle and clutch work ahead of the trans. Slight pressure applied to the shuttle is clearly creating friction on the driveline as it will spin the tires slowly if they are up off the ground but grinds like hell if I go past slight pressure and try to put the shuttle in forward or reverse. Appreciate any experience or explanations of how the shuttle and clutch work that driveline so I can determine what I need to look for.

Ralph

Ford 1979 industrial yellow paint available?

I would like to brush on some paint on the old 445 TLB,now that I have the thing going. Installed a new radiator, water pump, belt, hoses, thermostat and battery. New to me Bobcat 863 owner needs some PDF in his life

Hi guys! Looks like an awesome forum, and I'm glad to have found it! Thanks for having me. That being said, I need to do something I've always despised, but desperate times... ya know? I have an 863 F series with the Deutz 4cyl turbo diesel. Bought it in pieces from a gent who used it to build his house... right up until he blew it up. He pulled it apart, bought everything he needed and walked away for other priorities. Now I have to make sense of it all, at least if I ever want to play with my new toy! The head and oil pan are off. He cracked a piston. He bought new valves, a new piston, a new rod, rings, and push rods. I SHOULD have everything. The problem is finding all this info.

I have manuals for 873's Gehl skids, Deuts engines and everything in between, but some are op manuals, and some are parts manuals. I have not yet found the magic (and elusive) Bobcat 863 service manual. I know a gentleman by the name of oldmachinest had posted them many times in various forums, but has since passed away. I also know many forum members (throughout a few different forums) have linked others to them, but I cannot find the actual 863 manual posted anywhere. All links and pages are dead ends. There's lots for me to understand. I read of injection pumps needing shimming, piston cooling nozzles, clearances throughout the machine that need close attention, more than I feel comfortable with "winging" at this point.

I've been in my fair share of diesels and gas engines, but without the specs and info, I might put together a time bomb. Can anyone please help me out here? My email is Black88z. This is at aol and it's got a dot com and everything. (Good luck spammers!) Any help for actual Service Manuals on this machine would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Mike

90xt broken axle assembly studs

Hi Guys,
Searched high and low on line and have not found anything about this topic.
I just got a 90xt and tightened up the drive chains, on the left front axle assembly I broke 2 studs when I was loosening them off, I have new ones ordered, shop guy at Strongco (case dealer in Canada) says they can be easy or hard to change, tough to say. Anybody have any experience with this?

Terex wheeled skid steers - anyone using them?

I need to add a 70+ hp wheeled skid steer for snow removal this winter and have been looking at a .
lot of used machines.

I found a nice tsr80 Terex with 1000hrs on it for sale in another state and paid to have it transported to a dealership close to where I live to demo it.

The last 3 seasons I have rented a Takeuchi tsv70 which is just a re-branded Terex (Terex makes all the Takeuchi wheeled skid steers). I loved the machine in the winter and had very little issues.

I am just concerned because no one around here is running a Terex wheeled machine and all the ones I see for sale are under 1000 hrs (most are under 500).

The dealership I was renting the Takeuchi from has since sold it and will not be getting another, they said I was the only one who ever rented it.

I was renting it for $800 a month (cheap because I also rent 3 3.5 yard wheel loaders from them as well).
All dealers I have called around to for winter skid steer rentals are almost $2000 a month. At $2000 a month I can buy this loader and have it paid for when my 3 year contract is up.

So anyway, just wondering if anyone has used the TSR/V line of Terex wheel loaders and how the experience has been.

New Holland 185 190 Operator & Repair Manuals

I have a paper repair / service manual for New Holland compact track loaders skid steers and also the operator manual. Will trade or sell both for $300, or best offer. Cost me $500 when I bought new from New Holland 12 months ago. Sold machine so don't need them any longer. Good for all 185 and 190 machines, wheeled or tracked.

I need an operator and repair manual for a 1999 John Deere 310E loader-backhoe. Any one have these PDF or hardcopy? Thanks!

John Deere Loader-backhoe Oil Pressure Lamp activity

My first loader/backhoe ever, JD 310E. Previously had a New Holland CTL for about a year...that was my first construction machine. Just accepted backhoe from dealer two days ago. Didn't do this when I inspected it at dealer location, but dealer had warmed it up when I specifically asked them to let it sit icecold until I arrived to inspect.

I let it sit for 36 hours after I accepted delivery and started it this morning, about 32 degrees F. Started fine, and at lowest idle (1,000rpm) everything was fine. As I pressed the fuel pedal the Low Oil Pressure Light illuminated at 1,100 RPM and stayed on if increased above that point. It stayed on for almost 20 minutes if revved above 1,000 rpm. I checked it every 3-5 minutes to see what it would do, and for how long. At 20 minutes it went off, but it came back on upon me revving it to 2300rpm and then went off again and stayed off after that, regardless of the RPMs. I'm letting it sit for a couple of hours to check it again when cool but not ice cold. It's about 40 degress F today.

Is any of this normal age operation for a 1999 310E with 4,500 hours. Suggestions to troubleshot further? Thanks!

front brakes pulling to the left

I got an odd problem on 92 kenworth w900. When I step on the brakes it pulls to the left. Does it worse when the truck is loaded. I just put new shoes and drums on the front. It pulled before new shoes and drums and still pulls. S cams looked good. I thought maybee I had a broken slack adjuter but when you apply the brakes it looks like everything works and moves like it should. Has anyone ever seen one line get partially plugged on one side and cause an imbalance? This is puzzling cause all the parts look good. When you adjust the brakes the left one always takes a bunch more adjustment than the left.

Help! How to get hyd. hose off on 931B

I'm really hoping somebody has a repair procedure or knows how to change a hose on a Cat 931B loader. The boom cylinder hose for lowering on the right side blew. The boom was up so it's not too hard to get off on the cylinder but the other end under the floor plate looks to be a real pain to get off. The 2 boom hoses are clamped to bracket with a bolt from underneath you can't get at. There are 2 steel lines with bulkhead fittings above the hoses on the same bracket. I'm guessing you have to take the bulk head fittings right out in order to lift the bracket up enough to get the clamp bolt underneath off. If someone has done this or has the repair procedure would be greatly appreciated.

Alright, you all probably know I aint right in the head but I need to ask; Am looking at a FA16B, sitting outside Kingdom City MO off I-70. Have not actively stopped to look nor call the owner but this is the question. It will have 7.850 rails on it, max dimension 8.057, I can put Cat 8.0 SALT rails on it and be in reason to fit the sprockets, the rollers and idler do not care. What can you guys tell me as to the quirks of these and if I am just being hard headed in looking to keep a Allis working?

Machine total fluid capacity. Math not working well

So, I'm working on a 644E loader, the spec seems to say 30 gallons for hydraulic system capacity, 6 gallons each axle and 4 gallons for the trans, numbers rounded off.

So with the axles filled and hydraulic system refilled, after splitting, overhauling the center pin, overhauling the steering cylinders, replacing a handful of lines and rebuilding the brake pump. So there wasn't much fluid left in the system, cleaned all the main lines to make sure there wasn't any debris.

After filling the hydrauilc tank and carefully purging, it sure feels like the 55 gal drum is darned near empty where it should have 13 ish gallons remaining.

does 'hydrauilc fluid capacity' just refer to the tank volume? If so, I'd have to guess where 12-13 gallons went.

Maybe a gallon for the filter, 3 for each steering ram, main suction line 2, feed lines, 1 each. perhaps that comes up to nearly 10 plus other dribbles.

I guess that's the question, is capacity different than total volume.
