Questions for kubota svl 90, or 75 owners

I have a 2011 svl 90 with cab, I'm trying to figure out how to better seal it off from outside dust etc, has anyone tried doing anything to thiers? I get bad allergies from real fine dust getting into mine, through the door I believe.

I also had read of someone getting Kubota to increase the hydraulic power by 14%, trying to figure out if that's OK...or is that bad for pump, and other internals...etc?

Also heard they can tune engine to push out 100hp?

Just wanted to get some feedback, don't think I need it, the machine has had great power....but if its not going to urt anything, why not increase it. Thanks!

Starter issues DT466 in an 84 S1900

I have an old 1984 S1900 with the DT466 in it. It would periodically just click at the fuse box and click at the starter when turning the key. Other times, it would go ahead and fire off no problem at all - spin over fast and everything. When it would only click, a few turns of the key and it would fire right off - until it wouldn't do that anymore and just click at the fuse panel and not at the relay.

I got tired of this, had one of my guys yank the starter, and then took it in to a rebuild place. They told me that it essentially would be a better deal to get a new starter with a newer design than the old clunker I had, so I went that route. It was a 30 pound lighter Delco Remy 39MT.

After install, though, now I have NOTHING. No headlights, no horn, NOTHING.

The installation instructions on the starter (http://ift.tt/1LH7RMi) put me in their 'Category C' - a new starter with an attached magnetic switch (relay) replacing a starter without an attached magnetic switch (relay).

My guy that pulled the old starter and did the install on this one says that the three large ring terminals that are still not hooked up weren't before, and that the one wire that the terminal end got yanked off of when the old starter came down has been attached to the solenoid.

He put a new lug on this (perhaps) solenoid wire and attached it to the magnetic switch terminal pursuant to the directions. He also attached the 2/0 or better battery positive to the battery terminal on the starter and then transferred the 1/0 ground wire from the old starter that ran to the frame to the ground on the starter.

It all seems right - the three large ring terminals indeed look crusty (like they weren't installed before), I have battery voltage at the battery (+) terminal on the starter, and the wiring is indeed as he indicated. I checked for voltage on the three unused wires with the large ring terminals and have none regardless of key position. I also, however, have no voltage coming to the switch terminal that the (supposed) solenoid wire was attached to regardless of key position.

All fuses test out okay, but perhaps there is one somewhere that I am missing?

Any ideas appreciated.

can anyone tell me what this is?

OK so I came into this thing? a generator YES, BUt there are NO name tags or model numbers or?? on it and I have NO idea what it is, as far as what brand or make or??
I know its been sitting where it is in these pictures now for about 20+ yrs
I have NO idea IF it ran when it was parked there, or not?

I will be removing it on Monday, and NOT sure if its something to take to the scrap yard, or try and get running?
as I have NO idea what its possible value is, both as is, or IF it was to get running??

John Deere 450G TC Dozer

My grandfather has a John Deere 450G TC. First off, we are having an issue with the alarm. The alarm sounds when the engine is shut off and even when the key is out. Any ideas? Once I unhook the batteries and rehook them up, it doesn't beep. He said it has happened before and hasn't done it since. He doesn't remember what made it stop. Also, does anyone have any of the filter numbers for it? Its a 99 model. Thanks!

new guy looking for advice on skid steers

OK I am new here, and hope I am asking this in the right place and correctly like.
I am looking to buy something for moving some dirt , stone , rocks and general debris.
I have a small property that has a decent slope to it, that is rather un even, and am planning to get a lot of back fill in, BUT will have to carry some of the back fill about a 100 yards across uneven ground with bumps and slight rolling side hills
I do NOT have much seat time in skid steers, or dozers or such.
BUt I have been using tractors a long time for planting crops, pulling plows and like attachments
But have used a few of the above equipment, but very little seat time, to know whats a better tool for my job at hand

SO, I am asking if, for the general use of moving clean fill to area's on my property
would I be better off with a skid steer, or tractor with a front end loader, or??
if a skid steer, would I be better off with tracks on a side hill and the un even ground, or would wheels be better?
second use of this what ever, will be for plowing snow, I have no pavement or concrete on the property, so NOT worried about damaging the ground, BUT when I plow neighbors drive ways , I don't want to be doing damages to them either> so, IF tracks, I would want rubber I gather?/

SO< what would you suggest as for type of equipment?
I am also looking at buying used, so, if anyone has any suggestions on models to look for or avoid, would be greatly appreciated
I plan to have a budget for about 15k
don';t have to spend it all, if I can help it, BUT I also want a reliable machine
and I could really use some tips on what to look for and out for on used things
I know tractors OKl, but as for actual construction equipment, I'm way gre=een, on what to look for, or even what to buy??
I thank you in advance , and appreciate all information you can offer me

Sprokets?

As you can see by my avatar, my sprockets are shot. The right one (especially) is actually sharp on the ends. Yesterday, my tracks started popping like crazy cutting grade uphill. So my question is...with the original tracks at 1250 hrs. is it worth it to change out the sprockets and try to milk another 2-300 hrs out of the tracks? The tracks are at about 30%, but I do have a few deep cuts...no cords exposed.

Komatsu PC200-7 Throttle Issue

Throttle control in the cab not working. I am getting resistance when I check the controller but nothing at the 3 or 4-pin connector at the controller on the engine in the rear.

What is between the throttle control knob and the engine controller that I would loose power? Is there a diode somewhere I can't find?

Thanks guys!

Steering problems with John Deere 624G

The problem I am having is I have to continuously turn the steering wheel to the left when driving down the road especially when I am right of the crown on the road. Is there an adjustment on this or is there issues in the system? I have recently kitted one steering cylinder, but after the steering issue started. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

CAT 320C throttle control

The throttle control on my CAT320C stopped working (no movement of the cables). I opened the unit and found the shaft stripped where it goes in and connect on the plastic wheel. I managed to repair it and have movement on the cables agian. The problem now is the throttle goes to the "full throttle" position the moment I switch the ignition on. Is there a way of "learning" the unit like on Hitachi? I'll appreciate it if somebody can explain the procedure to me.

1995 Case 1845c will only start if left "cranking"

I have a 1995 1845c that will only run if the starter is left cranking. When the key is springs back to the run position, the machine quits. If I leave the starter spinning, it stays running. New switch was installed last year. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Boom banging when travelling

Hi Guys,

I have a 2001 JCB 214 series III that I recently bought. When I am travelling with it any bump in the road causes the boom to bang very loudly. What I can see is that when the machine starts to wobble front to back after hitting a bump the boom rocks forward off the transport lock and then slams back down on the lock. Horribly loud noise, I thought the arse was falling off of her the first time it happened.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any idea how to fix it?

Thanks,

Brian

Cat Challenger 85C engine replace options

I have the engine apart in my shop out of a Challenger 85C for a friend and customer. It is a 3176B with now a bad crank and head from a rod bearing spinning. So far, we've had no luck locating a good runner out of a salvage tractor. My thought now is to find a good running truck engine and swap over components (engine mounts, oil coolers, etc.). I've done this on other agriculture engine brands with a fair bit of labor and am wondering just how big a job this might end up being if we can't find a tractor takeout. Also, can the later C engine work in place of the B model?

New member and owner/Case 580K identification

All, I bought a Case 580K last week and it needs some good general maintenance as well as some electrical repair. Before I buy some manuals I want to make sure I know what I have. I think its a Phase I 580K but have seen some info online that may lead to it being a Phase 3.

Here are some numbers from the Tags...

ROPS S/N 12203898
Engine Plate - 4-390
Engine Plate - A174025
Engine Plate - 44224890

Frame 580K Pin/No 17424833
Manual says for PN JJG0020000 and above
Wheels are stamped 1990
Gear shifter is in the floor

Im guessing the wheels and manual are from another loader and its a Phase I. Any idea what year?

I may post some more threads as I sort through this wiring nightmare. :Banghead

Thanks

Older JCB 506b hydraulic problem

Just rebuilt the dash and cab wiring harness after sitting for a year after it all melted down in a fire. I took plenty of pics that I'll be posting later. Anyway much to my surprise pretty much everything seems to be working. except the boom extend & retract functions. When you hit the lever you can hear and feel it doing something the boom just doesn't move. I put my hand on the hoses @ the manifold on the cylinder itself and you can feel flow through them when you stroke the levers. Calling the local dealership tomorrow for some troubleshooting tips and maybe a price on the valve block. Just thought I'd throw it up on here and see what people had to say.
TIA

Tree Spade on an excavator?

I did a search on the forum to see if there were any previous posts on this topic but after reading 6 pages of threads I did not find anything. Does anyone have any knowledge or info if it is possible to mount a conventional tree spade on an excavator stick?

I have been browsing mid sized excavators for some time now looking for a 70 to 120 sized machine for a number of projects on my farm. While I have not found the machine that makes me happy yet it did occur to me that perhaps another use for my excavator could be in my orchard moving trees with a tree spade.

One landscape operator I spoke to about just using a bucket on an excavator told me that he found he damaged or broke too many trees that way and said a spade works much better.

So it crossed my mind to ask the knowledable folks on HEF if they had any opinions/knowledge/experience with a tree spade on an excavator?

Eager beaver dove tail

Hello People, Last year I bought a 1987 21000 lb eager beaver dove tail. I bought it on Auctions international in New York state. I won the bid and when I went to pick up it had two rim and tire on each axle. Most of trailers similar have four rim and tire total eight not four like mine. Also the trailer deck was cut out a little bit like somebody put a taller rim and tire on. I researched the vin # number with no results to see if I could find specs.

There is no model number on the title or trailer. This site seems to have a world of knowledge I have solved a lot of issues from the threads. Would anybody know the correct rim and tire I would need for this trailer. I would be interested in buying used if anybody has the correct stuff. Any info would be appreciated.

John Deere 450c Transmission issue

I have a John Deere 450c dozer that doesn't seem to have any power moving forward or backwards. It has enough power to move itself but that's about it but very slow. I read where there is a hydrolic valve that controls the oil flow to the transmission that could be bypassing or something. It said the valve may be stuck or needs replaced ?? Does anyone know where this is located ? I just got the dozer and can't figure out why it won't move very fast ? I pulled the transmission filters and tthey were clean ?? Looking for advice

Commercial Equipment Financing Service

Hello,

I work for a private equity lending firm. We actively lend and are very interested in the heavy equipment markets (Yellow Iron, Mining, Forestry, Recycling, ect..). We finance companies small and large for equipment from the 10K to the multiple millions range. We are happy to lend on small machines just as much as large as a lot of times something small is all that is required to fulfill a contract. That being said under 150K is the easiest as far as paperwork and financials are concerned. We are a story based lender not a credit and algorithm based lender such as a traditional bank. Thus allowing us to finance a much broader audience of customers as we lend on ability to repay. We understand that not everyone has perfect or even good credit and that in most cases it in no way affects one's ability to repay. However many times it will be enough to block a bank from lending for a piece of equipment. We are able to work with people that have credit scores down into the 400's. I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have and will be routinely and promptly responding to them on this thread. Thank you in advance for any time or interest invested in this post.

Thank you,
Skyler

LS170 just shutoff, Than nothing...

I purchased an older New Holland LS170 I have had it for years and it has run great. Well today I was moving some 6ft logs around and I was tilting the forks forward to drop a log and it just shut off. When you turn the key the buzzer just sounds. But there are no lights at all and it won't start. When I flip the toggle switch up in the fuse box it will start and move but the boom will not move and there are no lights. All of the fuses appear to be OK. Does anyone have any suggestions on the problem?

JCB 1400B starter relay, what does it do and any ideas on how to get a new one localy

I have a 1989 JCB1400B. It would not crank. After much searching/testing, I finally figured out it is the starter relay. Figured this out by disconnecting the wires from the switch and holding them together, then turned the key and it cranked right over and started.
I am a newbie at the whole backhoe/equipment game. So my questions are, what does this relay do? I assume it must have some safety or charging related to it being needed.
Also, it is a Lucas 33RA 12v (or SRB600) , it appears that those numbers may not be a very common part and are not easy to find. I was wondering if maybe someone knew of another part number that I may be able to get at someplace like a NAPA. Or maybe it just needs to be any relay that does ? and ? and I could get it anywhere if you know what I am saying.

Track makes a squeak like there's something stuck in it?

dimanche 28 juin 2015

My 931B is working good but I was loading some clay I dug with the backhoe and sometimes(not always) the left track made a squeaking noise like something was caught in it when going in reverse. I picked the track off the ground and put it in gear and everything seems fine. There was no dirt or anything packed around the sprocket so I'm wondering what would cause that? I used it for few hours yesterday and didn't have any problems other than the ground being super hard. I didn't check at the bottom of the sprocket if there may have a been a little rock something stuck but it did look like the track wasn't centered on the sprocket.

Cat D4 leaking hydraulic oil into final drives

The dozer in question is a D4C hystat. I was checking the oil level in the final drives and the one on the right side was full enough that oil poured out the filler plug when it was removed. The finals call for 50W and since it's not nearly as dark as 90W, I didn't immediately recognize that it was hydraulic fluid. But then I noticed the hyd oil level had dropped. It's apparently doing it even when parked because after I drained it down to level with the filler plug, I checked again the next day and it was overfull again. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before? Also, will it hurt to run it this way for short periods as long as I'm not doing heavy pushing? This is a farm dozer so I won't have a chance to correct the problem until the winter.

Odometer Fraud and Tampering

I have posted before with the name of the business and believe the thread was taken down for that.

anyways,
i think this topic deserves much more exposure as many of us are victims with knowing it.

I bought a "2006 Caterpillar D5G XL Dozer" with 5000 hours on the machine and a new motor as they claimed from a seller in Oklahoma.

I asked about any previous damages and was told:" Absolutely not! We wouldn't offer anything like that here. We've been doing this for many years and would never be able to do this by selling junk!".

I was in for a ride...

The machine was delivered May 22 and had a first chance to work with it June 7.
The next day I came across an auction site listing that sold that machine in Nov of 2014 with the same serial number and matching photos/visuals as a 2003 piece of equipment with 9095 hours on it and not as the seller claimed a 2006 dozer with 5000 hours. Furthermore the hour meter was tampered with and exchanged for one with less hours.
I contacted the auction site and was told that the seller was the one who bought it from them.

I reached out to him and asked for my money back - without response.

Contrary to popular belief odometer fraud in heavy equipment is a federal felony according to Title 15, U.S.C. to Title 49 of the federal odometer tampering statutes and carries a prison sentence from 18 month to 7 years without parole.

I have contacted since the local police, the attorney Generals offices of NY and Oklahoma, the FBI, the BBB of Oklahoma, the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Consumer Credit, the Odometer Fraud Department in DC, local newspapers in Oklahoma, the New York Times, Washington Post and Huffington Post and left reviews with Google and Yelp for the seller and everyone to see...

any advice and experience is welcome.

Cat 950G will not go into 2nd gear??

Hi, I haven't been on this forum for a few years but have used it many times for the great posts' to read and for technical info to repair our equipment. Lets face it, Heavy equipment we run is the lifeblood of this industry!!

Our mechanic replaced the trans in the 950G and second gear will not activate. 1st, 3rd, and 4th are fine but 2nd does nothing. It is supposed to be a rebuilt or good used trans. Is there a solenoid or wire not in the right place or something easy to check? Is there a website I can look at to help diagnose the problem.

I know this is vague but I am just trying to help out my new company I am working for. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks, Charles

I have an 86 172ad single drum bomag roller. I have a hydraulic leak coming from the vibratory drum pump just inside the frame rail. I can't see where it's coming from and I don't know what kind of pump it is. The bomag manual doesn't have any pump information. Any help?

Motor whining not starting

I have a Case 1840. It is a older year model (1980's). It was running great and then started have some trouble starting but still would start. Finally all it would do when you turned the key was make a winding sound. Nothing would turn. We took the starter off and had to leave it sitting for a few weeks be cause of a busy schedule. We out the starter back on and cranked it just to see what it would do. It cranked 3 times and is now doing the same thing. Any ideas on what could be going on?

Wish I had the teeth on the bucket

samedi 27 juin 2015

I need to remove some topsoil/sod so I can build a pad for shop. I have a cat 931B with a backhoe and in hindsight I should have just used the backhoe. I put a smooth cutting edge on the front bucket because I was building jumps out of clay on an MX track and did a bunch of back blading to smooth the take off and landing area's. Trying to dig and level extremely hard and dry ground with a smooth bucket doesn't work too good. I'm sure if I would have still had the teeth on the loader bucket would have made a huge difference. I tried making a level area to start and just take little bites making it wider but the ground was like concrete. It has to be built up with clay so it's not real critical but man that was frustrating. I think with the teeth I could have just put the bucket level and the teeth would dig in and break up the hard pan making a level pass. Next time I'll do most of the digging with the backhoe and just use the loader to push the piles out of the way. Anyone else have problems digging extremely hard ground?

Any tips to reduce bucket sticking?

We are digging out a ton of dirt for a pond. The ground is first ripped with a big farm tractor and then the loose dirt just scooped up with the skid steer. Probably have over 4000 yards to move. I know the skid steer is not the right sized tool for the job but we only have one dump truck hauling the dirt off so it keeps up.

Anyway this soil is not super wet and definitely not mud, but sure seems to build up and stick in the bucket. We can wash the bucket out with a pressure washer and a few dump trucks later we have a 3-4" thick layer stuck in the bucket. Any thing I can put on to reduce this? I have a sand blaster I thought about blasting the inside of the bucket to get it super smooth and then painting and waxing it?

Bull dozing with a skidder

I've got to spread a mound of soil around on my property. The soil consists of mostly sand and gravel with a little bit of top soil and the area is only about 50' by 50' and 3 to 4' deep.

I'm thinking about buying an older skidder to do the job rather than bring in a D4 dozer for a day. Do you think a TJ 350/450 or Treefarmer C5/C6 would be up to the job?

Just picked up a JCB 1400B... a few questions.

Good afternoon, hope someone has a moment to answer a few questions.

I just bought a 1988 JCB 1400B in decent condition and have some control/operation questions. Unfortunately he's passed on therefore I can't go back and ask him, and there's no operators manual. I do have a service manual and a parts manual, but the information isn't leaping out at me...

First, There is a button on the shuttle shift, a button on the wiper/light lever, a button on one side of the steering column, and a foot switch by the left side of the dipper controls. What are they supposed to do? None of them appear to have any tangible effect...

Second, I did ask him about cold start but he had never used it in the depths of winter. I know the key turns back towards the seat, but he couldn't enlighten me as to how the cold start operates or what a cold start procedure would be...

Last, I would assume the shovel has some form of float setting to follow ground contours... can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance for any and all help...

D6R intermittent fault

Hi all, my d6r dash lights and gauges sometimes don't work. The tractor starts and runs fine but nothing on the dash works! When this happens I just let it tick over for a short while then stop it and restart it.This sometimes works. The charging light on the dash is also not working other than when the first switch on of the key when it lights them all up.Had the alternator cheched and that is OK. Batteries are in good shape and all fuses seem good.Any thoughts?

I have a 1998 Case 580L with a heated cab. Both doors are rusted out on the bottom edges. I understand this is common on these models.

Does anyone know of a kit available to repairs the bottom 6" or so? Looking for a weld on replacement etc, or any other suggestions?. New replacement door shells are about $5000 both both, which isn't happening on my budget.

Also, I would like to replace the hood and side panels if anyone know of a good scraped unit. Thanks

With the Giant Rock Cutters Of Texas....

I took a trip to Texas this week to document the largest rock cutting machines ever built. Texas is home to the largest concentration of giant trenchers, road miners and rock cutting surface miners in the world. Geology plays a role in this, in particular around San Antonio and Austin. This is home to some of the largest rock excavation companies in the world and the equipment they use all over the southwest and other areas.

The Trencor 1860HD is the largest rock trencher ever built. Only 9 such machines exist, with six in Texas now. I was able to see the last unit built in operation near Breckenridge Texas trenching for a huge water supply project. This unit was cutting solid limestone 7 feet wide and 10 feet deep. The machine has a 1,250 hp Cat 3512 to power the digging chain and a 3306 to power the hydraulic system. It weighs about 220 tons. The power and size is incredible to see first hand.

New to me EX55UR

Hi all,

Bought this last week. Was a local dealer trade in, price was right and its functional. I realize its a gray, but I'm a heavy equipment mechanic by trade and not bad at sourcing parts for orphans:) Dealer says its a 1997, not sure if I believe that. 6000 hours. Wix has filters for it.

I've read mother Deere can work with hitachi part numbers if you can get them for parts, but won't have any way to look the machine up.

What engine does this have? The later ones have Isuzus. Wheres the best place to find manuals?

Any words of wisdom for the old hitachi midi machines?

This is a homestead/toy/cherry picker for me and isn't relied on everyday, so I can deal with some nonsense ;) I'll have it until a nicer one comes along.

Any words of wisdom, stories, advice is greatly appreciated!

Just purchased a D6-9U with low hours, looking for suggestions

I just purchased my first Cat, a D6-9U serial number 9U27224. This dozer was purchased new to clear fence rows by a well off farmer. Long story short the dozer was used to clear the needed fence rows and then parked in the barn. In the mid 80's the farm was sold with the equipment and the new owners used the dozer again to do a little fence row clearing before parking the dozer outside. I just purchased the dozer in hopes that I can get it running and use it to clear fence rows myself. What I have noticed so far is that the hour meter on the injection pump reads 0079, the track adjusters are all the way in (track not very loose), grousers are more then 2 inches deep, and the undercarriage shows very little wear to the untrained eye. Now I don't believe that the hours are accurate, but all accounts suggest that the dozer has less then 500 original hours. My questions are as follows:

It has been 7 years since the dozer was last used, should the track be lubed prior to attempting to move it? Is there anything else about the power train I need to be looking at prior to attempting to move the machine?

The pony motor is free but I'm sure the carburetor is going to need attention, any idea where I can look for a carb kit?

Does this machine call for a 6 volt or 12 volt battery?

If I am able to get the machine running and moving properly do the low hours make it more valuable as a collectors piece or do I go ahead and put it back to work? I really have no idea what the machine is worth if functional.

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Backhoe hourly rates - What are you charging?

Hi fella's,

I am new to the forum, but been around machines for a while. I have a small business on the side, focusing on general skid steer work (landscaping, post hole drilling, land clearing and snow plowing etc) in Northern Ontario, Canada. My usual skid steer rates are $75hr with the operator (me), regardless of the attachment. I think this is very fair, compared to most others. I am thinking the backhoe rate should be slightly more, perhaps in the $90-110/hr range

I looked around for some time and just bought a Case 580L to expand my business a bit. I am curious as to what the contractors on this site are charging for similar backhoes and also for skid steers?

Thanks for any input. Take care and be safe.

Are all mines like this?

I have been working for the last three years in an open pit copper mine in northern British Columbia. The money is good and the camp is okay but the equipment maintenance is absolutely terrible and its driving me nuts. I normally operate dozer, wheel loader (992C) or one of two PC2000's. Windows are left broken, mirrors are held on with duct tape and in one case on a D8R, instead of repairing and adjusting the decellerator pedal, a rock was black taped to it so it would have enough travel. It was later replaced with a piece of 2x4. All the directions to do "temporary repairs" come right from the top.
One mechanic quit when he was called on the carpet for doing temporary repairs that didn't last long enough. I was told I was whining too much when I complained about a broken seat back in a PC2000.
I don't mind running old equipment if its taken care of a little bit but this is getting a bit much. I'm used to running equipment in the forest and construction industry where things get fixed. This is my first time mining. I would hate to get a job in another mine only to find out that its just as bad as this one. So are all mines like this?

commerical truck laws

My family runs a equipment and party rental company near Dallas, Tx. We just recently stepped up to bigger equipment and now run a small peterbilt and lowboy to move equipment as well as two 3/4 trucks. There are so many laws out there to follow for commercial trucks I am wondering if there is a company that you tell them what you are doing and they come back with a list of all the important licenses and everything that you need. Us dot number tx dot number and so forth. We have a lot of this stuff done and have not been stopped yet, just want to make sure I have all the lines filled in...

Thanks

Ever seen a McGiffert Loader?

This is one of the earlier versions. The later models turned 45 degrees to each side, and had mechanical landing gear, so the could straddle the tracks and run empty cars under their belly with a straw line. Same as the Lidgerwood tower skidders. It appeared that Lidgerwood actually incorporated a McGiffert loader with what I believe was the first portable steel spar, and mounted the whole contraption on train wheels.

$80/hr for 416C 4x4 Cat Backhoe

$80/hr for Deere 325 SkidSteer

$40 for my labor on site.

A/C questions

I am referring to a Komatsu D39EX-21A , but I think this applies to all machinery. I cleaned my filters the other day and checked the site glass , it was showing liquid in the glass. I put a gauge on the low side and it was showing 20lbs or less. I thought it was a touch low so I added a little 134. That afternoon when it got real hot about 95 it quit cooling , the vent temperature was 80*. The manual says the filter dryer should be changed every 2 years. I was thinking about washing out the evaporator and the condenser was washed out about 2 months ago. I'd like a little input on what to look for before I ruin a compressor. I did check the low side when it seemed to quit cooling and it was way high like 60 lbs. The system has the yellow leak dye in it as well. It don't seem to be leaking.

D5C fuel filter in fuel tank question

I have a D5C and it is starving for fuel. I changed the filter, same probem.
I took the line loose from the petcock to the tank and very little fuel leaks out. I took a hose, put it over the fitting and blew through it, I can hear the fuel buble and now the line is passing a good volume of fuel.
Question, is there a filter inside the fuel tank? It appears there is debris in the tank. what is the best way to pull the tank and clean it or is there a better way to deal with this problem.

Ford 4500 losing prime

My 4500 will sometimes stall when it idles too low or if a heavy load runs it down to a low RPM. To get it to restart I usually have to bleed the #2 injector at the injector. It's happening more and more frequently and trying to get it bleed out does not always work. I am looking for the solution. I don't know if the injectors need to be serviced or replaced or if there is an issue with the pump. There are leaks on the pump because it is always wet. I also am not certain that it is even timed right

Also, 2 nights ago it stalled and I left it with the fuel on overnight, it fired right up the next morning without bleeding
Last night it stalled and I left it with the fuel on again. I had to bleed #2 to get it to fire this morning
This afternoon it stalled, was a bear for bleed and it ran about 5 minutes before stalling again. I just walked away at that point and typed up this post.

Cat 320DL problem

Hi All
I am having a problem with a 320DL, PHX serial number. It has a code, FMI:4 CID:262DL: CDL. It says 5 Volt Sensor DC Power Supply: Voltage Below Normal. The machine will shut down like the key was turned off and will start right back up, run a little while and do the same thing again. I called the local cat dealer to find out what the 5 volt DC power supply is and what it does but they have to call cat tech support to find out as they don't know what it is either.
Anyone ever had any dealings with this problem?

Thanks!

traction in snow and ice... studs?

mini excavator... snow and ice traction
explanation is in italics, skip to the question if need be!

I'm new to heavy machinery. I have 15 acres on a steep hill with a house. 4-5 months a year we have snow. The access road to the house is paved/steep. I clear 1/4 mile right now with a Jeep. It piles up at the end of the season, so moving snow once in a while would be important. We get some ice too. I'd like to be able to recover the Jeep with the excavator if need be.

The other months of the year I have enough work lined up to justify buying something old instead of renting. I cut and clear 10 cords of wood a year, and currently split and trailer out the wood. With a thumb on the excavator I could carry the whole log out, or attach a trailer to the excavator and tow out that way. Theres also a number of trails I want to build for the dirtbike. So a mini excavator is making a lot more sense. I like the idea of getting in tough places with the mini. I would get a large grader bucket for the winter snow moving. I'm thinking something in the 6000-8000 pound range.

My only issue is getting traction on packed snow and ice. I know rubber tracks won't work at all. I called Gripstud and they pointed me towards a particular short screw in stud. Would these work? Does anyone have any experience studding a rubber track? Should I go for a steel track instead?

Any and all advice is welcome when it comes to tracks on snow and ice, in the steep. I looked at the tracks for a ski slope shaper... they are all deep metal tracks. If this doesn't work, i'll go with a backhoe/loader and tire chains.

Airarc, my new favorite tool

I tried an airarc that was laying around the shop ten years ago. Didn't really like it since I used a torch and grinder for 10 years before that.

I used it again a couple months ago on something I couldn't get a torch into. It worked well.

Yesterday I had to replace a corner shank, the airarc made quick work of it with less slag. Also it was hot out and it doesn't generate much heat at all. That was nice.

It's time to hit the boss up for a new compressor for the truck so I can run it in the field.

tl130 undercarriage inspection

Hey guys, I have a 2005 takeuchi tl130 500-something hours. I need a set of tracks for it, but my question is regarding how to determine condition of the undercarriage? The sprockets have a little wear, but difficult to even see. Are there supposed to be wear indicators? One of the rear idlers has a good sized dent, so I'm planning to replace. Bottom rollers, am I just looking to make sure they are not seized, or?? etc., etc. One concern is that it seems hard to fully inspect without removing tracks, and I would like to minimize down time.

Any advice?

Genie TMZ 34/19 Error Code 0011

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Recently purchased a Genie TMZ 34/19 towable manlift. I have an extensive amount of tree work to do as well as new gutters on two houses.

Unit is a 2001, S/N T3401-354, and has about 250 hours on it. Unit is entirely battery operated. From the time of purchase I have put about 20 hours on it.

Loaned it to a friend last week and he encountered an issue with it which I cannot figure out. He leveled the lift, got in the basket, and range the first stage of the boom up. Upon attempting to rotate the basket the unit had some sort of error which allowed him only to bring the boom back to the ground. Upon examination he discovered that the unit displayed error codes 0003 and 0011. He pulled up the outriggers and shut it down (figuring it would reset) and tried again only to find that, after leveling it again, all boom functions were disabled. The 0003 code appears to have disappeared while the 0011 persists.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction as to what this error code indicates for this given serial number unit? I've called my local Sunbelt guy (he wasn't any help) and information on the internet appears to be patchy at best.

Deere 650h LGP intermident reverse steering issue

jeudi 25 juin 2015

Hello.
Having problems with a Deere 650h LGP. After sitting, wouldn't go in reverse. Then it kinda would...but would steer to one side. Then wouldn't.
Then works fine after taking electrical connections apart in tunnel plate (removed from rear) and cleaning with contact cleaner. Maybe that made a difference? Works fine since. But every so often reverse steering gets crazy. Even in the heat of those summer in dry dusty conditions.

Any ideas? I'm mostly a cat guy. I dabble in a few select Deere machines. This a better small Dozer than the comparable cat or Komatsu?

Thanks so much.

Odometer Fraud Cat D5G XL by Dan Trotter of Heavey Equipment Haulers of Oklahoma

Hello all,
just wanted the community to know what has been happening.
Please be aware of this guy and his company!

I purchased a Cat Dozer from Dan Trotter at Heavey Equipment Haulers of Oklahoma also known as HEHOO.

They had it advertized as a 2006 with 5K hours on the machine and a new motor.
Turns out it is actually a 2003 piece of equipment, with at least 9,095 hours on it.

I contacted him and asked for my money back or I will contact my lawyer.
His response was to await my attorneys contact.
So my lawyer sent him a letter advising him that odometer fraud is a federal felony, carrying a prison sentence ranging from 18 months to 7 years without parole.

Trotter didn’t seem very impressed.

I just filed a complaint with the local police in town.
They loved the case as I have plenty of evidence and advised me to go to the attorney general as well as the BBB and the NHTSA.

I don’t know what Trotter is thinking but he is in for a ride.

Please let me know if anyone has experienced anything like this.

I’ll keep you posted.

John Deere grader Topcon 3dmc2 GPS calibration problems

Hello everyone I am a first time poster but have read a lot of great things on this forum. I run a 2011 872gp with the high speed Topcon GPS. I just have to throw this out there to see if anyone else is going through the same problems i am. My issue is every time I to the blade trim calibration it always wants to adjust the cross slope .2 percent. So to check it I won't hit the "finish" and restart the box and to another blade trim and its right on the nuts. Everything is calibrated perfect I know how to do all that and have had the Topcon guy out and he has done it and its all good so please no response back that I'm not doing that right. Thanks. It's tough to notice the calibration issue changing just gps' ing all the time but I also do a lot of work in 2D and that's where it really noticeable. I want my old 14h back cause that thing was always right on! Haha. Please sign up and response to this if you have the same problems because its very frustrating not cutting the right grade. And if your running the 3dmc2 system and its always perfect let me know cause then it might be an issue with the machine. Thanks all.

753c slow hydraulics

Hello everyone. This is my first post. A few weeks ago, I bought a bobcat 753c. 1996 model I believe? So far I've had minor issues with it. Tilt ram seal went out, alternator belt went out, cooling belt tensioner went out. No big deal on those things. I will point out first, that I do have a fluid leak. But my leak is from the aux hose to the left of the battery facing the engine. Talked to a few friends and they think that leak may be causing my issue?

The bobcat runs like a champ. Sounds great, operates smooth as butter. Until It's used for moving dirt after an hour. I'll get an hour of flawless operation and like a switch, all controls get very slow. Seconds after slow controls, the loud whine comes from the pump. This has happened every time I use it. When the problem starts, I'll pull the engine rpm down to about 50% and let it run about 5 min or so. All controls come back to life and I'll use it another 15min, then the problem occurs again.

I originally thought it was a overheating problem. So I flushed the system with new fluid. No improvements. So today, it happened again as usual. Cooling fan blowing good and hard. No restriction through the radiator or hydro cooler. When the hydraulics acted up on me today, I immediately started grabbing lines to try to feel the temperature. I was able to touch every hose and line on the machine without burning myself. Engine coolant Guage never shows it running hot. The overheat lights have never come on when this happens. The lights do illuminate when key is in the on position/engine off. So I know bulb isn't blown.

I do have good mechanical background. I'm an auto mechanic for a living. So I have somewhat of a good understanding of how MOST parts work on the machine. But right now, I have no idea where to start diagnosing? As a guestimation, I'd say the pump is going out. But before I go dropping $2k on a pump, I'm hoping someone here could point me in a direction that may have similar symptoms?

I also have no idea how to pull codes on this thing. To tell the truth, I don't think you even can. I read online about "753 code...ect". I haven't found info on how to pull the codes.

Pulling Engine In D4D

We are pulling the D330 engine in our D4D 78A6909 parts machine that I got last year to see what is wrong with it, hoping to resurrect this machine if we can. It is knocking on one cylinder & we suspect it is a connecting rod problem. It stil runs as we loaded it at the sellers place under its own power, nursing it along at a low idle. Another hour or so in the morning & we should have it out. We plan to pull the oil pan off & see what we find. The machine came with a winch that the seller had pulled off before I bought it. We will remount it if this project is a success.

Parker Junior test guage

I dropped my nearly new 8000psi Parker Junior hydraulic test gauge recently and it cracked the LCD screen. It only fell a very short distance too.

I rang a mob in Perth (WA) and they tell me they are not repairable. Surely a $600 hydraulic test gauge isnt toast for the want of an LCD display :(

Anyone have any advice apart from be more bloody careful in the future?

D8T "sliding carrier" in bevel gear removal

In disassembly in the manual, it says to pull a sliding carrier out through the LH final. It's quite vague, and has a picture of the tool which is just an oversize washer pinched oblong between two nuts on a shaft. I have done this, pulled what I think is this carrier, it moves about 1" out, but still dosent want to let the bevel group come out the back. I've looked in the parts fishes, through the manual, and can't seem to see what it is I'm really needing to move. Any tricks? I don't remember this collar on the smaller tractors. FYI s/nKPZ1709

Got To Find a CAT 953B - Alomost had one, it got pulled back into service

Hello!

I was about to pull the trigger on a 953B, but seller decided to put in back
into service and needed it.

Really need one... preferably with lower than 10,000 hours around the '92-98 year ranges.

Anyone have a resource you know of beside the typical machinarytrader and such?

Thanks!

Kobelco SK 250 stick/ arm cylinder leaks down

I have a Dynamic Acera sk250 LC, SN LL09-U0732. 2004.
Just had the arm cylinder rebuilt, put it together, ran it on the job for an hour no problems. Than all of a sudden the arm will not stay extended. Leaks down fast. 4to 5 secs. Ive checked joy stick controls,I've swapped #4 and #6 soleniods that are under the tray where the air filter is. Nothing. I've pulled the spools out top, bottom for that cylinder. Moves freely no trash. Not sure what else to check. I am by no means a mechanic. I'm out of ideas. Thanks in advance for any input. Rick

How much can you overload a truck before breaking things?

We have a single axle international 4300 dump truck. Rear axle is 19k front is 10k. It is derated to 25,999 to be non cdl. We don't overload it on the road because we don't want any trouble with the DOT man but we are moving a lot of dirt around on our farm which doesn't involve getting on any public roads. The dump bed will probably hold 9 yds heaped which I figure to be 18k. Truck probably weighs 14k. I am going to break anything loading it to 32k for short 1/2 mile trips on the farm?

Hydraulic Shop wrecked dump cylinder and charges me to fix it? Is that common?

I have a komatsu loader that needed a repack of the dump cylinder. I dropped it off to central hydraulic with the repair kit. They quoted me about 2-5 hours of labor. They call me back today and tell me they had to heat and cool it multiple times to get the cap off and ended up stripping the threads on bot the cap and the cylinder. They tell me now its going to be $1700 to fix it, or I can pickup my broken cylinder for $450!

I guess my question is, is that common practice in heavy equipment repairs? I know in automotive repair if you strip-out a bolt you take responsibility and fix it and apologize for it taking longer than expected. You don't give them back a broken car and charge the customer for breaking it.

Genie Z45/22 manlift drive troubles

Hello all,
New to this forum and thank you for the opportunity to vent.

Recent acquisition of older Genie Z45/22 dual fuel Onan twin powered manlift. s/n 4588-1662.
Troubles with no drive either direction. Have good voltages at all solenoids with variable voltage to
proportional drive solenoid. All functions above platform turret operate correctly. Replaced four solenoid
valves due to significant internal cage wear. Prop, Fwd,rev and both Hi/Lo drive items plus brake two
position three way valve. Unit shows 4000 hrs on clock. Checked and set or tested all safety reliefs to
stated spec. Main relief set to 3500psi. Steering unit functions and relieves at 750 psi setting at max stroke.
Disassembled and checked hydro pump that feeds drive system. No wear or damage. Ran motor with
hand valve in line with outlet from pump will provide 3000psi before engine fades. Test pressure in manifold
indicates the 750psi when operating but not more then 800 Psi when drive engaged. Have also capped
lines to drive motors with no change to test gauge reading. Motors are two line feed type with brake
release to finial drive torque unit. Brake test pressure is also odd as it goes to 350psi but then
spikes to 1000psi. Hydro in tank inlet strainers clean and no
sludge in hydro tank. Could have been cleaned before me. Little residue in tank. Dextron fluid clean.
Replaced input flow reg valve due to same cage wear. Have really beat on this with limited results. Will
pull manifold next to look for internal leaks cracks. Have been in touch with Genie service tech and he feels
piolet pressure to valves is missing thereby not allowing valves to operate correctly. Any input would be
welcomed. Thanks .
Joe

Cat 3126 rear main seal???

Has any one ever replaced the rear main seal on a Cat 3126 with out the tool. I need to replace the rear main seal and new replacement seal comes with a wear ring. It takes a special tool to install it. Tool is over $400. Cat does not rent out a tool and I cant find any truck garage that has one. My crankshaft does not have a grove wore in it, could I just take the wear ring out and install the seal or is it made different than original? After market does not list a seal.

New Holland 3930 Brakes

mercredi 24 juin 2015

I just replaced a leaking brake rod seal on the New Holland 3930 at work which resulted in draining the trans/hydraulic oil from the transmission. I refilled to the proper level and when I started the tractor today I discovered the brake pedals are on the floorboard. I'm guessing at this point that the hydraulic fluid plays a part in the braking system. Brakes worked fine before the repair, just had a leaking seal. Anyone know what I have to do to get the brakes back?

Removing root balls and debris from creek?

I am trying to clean some creeks on my place that have not been maintained in years. The are about 15' wide 5' deep. I am able to cut back the brush, but there are some dead brush piles and root balls right in the stream my mini excavator and thumb can not reach.

Since I am a one man operation,I have been thinking about some kind of treble hook on a chain that I can swing into the brush piles to pull them out. Anyone done anything like this or have any better suggestions?

Equipment Costing Guide

I'm hoping someone could help me with this as I've been searching online and can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

There used to be a guide called the "Contractors' Equipment Cost Guide" that gave an average per hour rate for various types of heavy equipment. I can't seem to find that particular title or one similar. Perhaps I'm just not googling the right terms but if any one knows of a similar guide please let me know.

'52 Oliver 77 & '51 Ferguson TO-30

Finished rebuilding the spool valves on my '52 Oliver, yesterday I spent some time clearing some brush out. After that, I took out the '51 ferguson with bucket and blade and smoothed everything out. Still a bit of work to do, but it's much improved from how overgrown it was. The railroad ties, concrete barriers, pipes, stakes, and sheets of rubber were abundant in the mess, but I managed to get it all clear.
