repairing paint on service truck body

lundi 30 novembre 2015

I found a hot deal on a service truck that I may end up purchasing. My only qualm with it is there's some big patches of missing paint on a few of the doors. Anybody have any experience with these? Think I could just find some decent automotive paint, buff it down with ol mr. die grinder and hit it? I'm no paint and body guy, just a rattle can wizard lol

My backhoe just decided to stop going forward and backward. I tested the shuttle shift, module and both are ok. I'm trying to locate the solenoids. Does anyone know an easy way to get to them without removing the fuel tank? Thank you in advance for any help.

Flopped Iron Mule, Broke my neck

Friday, while out playing in the woods I did a stupid move. I had loaded a cord or so of big oak on my antique Iron Mule forwarder and then stupidly tied another tree on the back. I was on a side hill, not to bad but noticeable for sure. I had loaded from the downhill side with no issues so I should have been OK. But the tree I chained to the back was slightly downhill from the machine and when I crawled ahead turning to the right the high side of the machine came right up and over it went, faster that you could say "crap". I knew better, laying in the hospital bed in the neuro unit with a broken neck at three in the morning it dawned on me what I done. I was real lucky, I broke the C2 vertabre into 4 pieces on the left side. Fortunately the pieces are all in place and no surgery is required. I have to keep a neck brace on for 24/7 for 8 weeks but I am not complaining. I spent the night in the hospital and after 3 CT scans and 2 MRIs I got released by noon Saturday. I was truly blessed. Here's some pictures we took today when we went ot look at it to figure out the extraction plan.

JD 450H won't start

Just bought this Dozer month ago so I'm not real familiar with John Deere yet. It's rain close to 10" here this month so I've not gotten to run it much. It's been sitting for couple of weeks & won't start. Finally got it Goin by giving it a small shot of either. It acts like its losing fuel after it sits for a while. Is there an electric shut off or valve of some sort. Also the batteries are weak but still wouldn't start with booster cables. Any help is much appreciated.

Can a JD 310J do it?

All,
I'll turn to you guys for your expertise once again. I'm looking for a backhoe for grading and digging chores around my property. I've been looking at Cat due to their dealer support in my area. JD isn't as strong, but it still should be good. I've seen some JD 310Js for sale in my price range (30,000-38,000). I'm wondering if the 310J is up to the challenge. With its lack of turbocharger and 7,000 pound-ish bucket breakout force, do you think it would be a good machine to push dirt with? Does it have the power to grade with? The machine I'm looking at has a 4 in 1 bucket. I just don't know if it has the sufficient loader bucket breakout force to be a strong machine. Any help y'all could provide would be much appreciated. I think it's boom is strong enough. My main concern is the loader.

950H v 962H

Been looking around for a low(ish) hour loader in this size range.
According to Ritchiespecs, the 962 has 14 more hp, and around an extra tonne in weight, but gives ground in other areas.
For instance, less breakout force and lower dump clearance height.
Just curious that Cat would have two models so close in spec, or am I missing something?
Cheers, Greg

Some 94 JCB Sitemaster Questions

I "think" I have a 94 JCB Sitemaster series 2 Backhoe. I can upload more pics if need be.

Questions:

1: How do I tell what year the machine is? ID is 0438160, Vin is SLP214TCSE0438160.

2: I noticed while going up a pretty steep grade with a full load of rock it seemed a little gutless. Will I hear the turbo? How do I tell if my turbo is working properly? I am putting on 2 new filters inner/outer, they were pretty beat.

3: Manual, I have a service/parts manual, but would like the owners manual for this yr model. I downloaded one but think it is for the 3x

4: I ordered a hydraulic filter for the in tank filter, but when I removed the access plate Hydro fluid was oozing out, and it was basically level. I think I may have over filled? What level should it be at?
-I also placed my hand in there and felt a metal tube, but there was not filter I could remove, or find a cap to remove to access the cylindrical filter?? Is it possible mine didn't have one in it, and when I put the new one in (pictured below) does it require a cap? How is it held in??

TL140 Hydraulic Oil

Hi Guys

For those with Takeuchi TL machines what are you using for hydraulic fluid. The manual says it should have 10w-30 motor oil but i can only find 10w-30 by the gallon, and i would need 20 gallons. i can get 15w-40 in 5 gallon pails a little cheaper and i have seen that some are using AW68 hydraulic fluid which is easy to find.

Thanks

Sumitomo 145 stalling issue

I have a 1997 sumitomo 145 excavator that suddenly has a hydraulic/fuel issue. It runs full rpm and as soon as you put a load to it will bog down and sometimes eventually stall/die. All functions make it stall under load (tracks, boom , thumb, etc).

Right away I thought it was a fuel issue but now I'm not so certain. Initially I replaced the primary fuel filter, replaced the water separator, rebuilt the feed /fuel pump , cleaned filter in banjo bolt, aired out fuel lines.

I'm trying to find the next troubleshooting step. Could it be a stuck hydraulic valve or solinoids on the relief? Is my next step pressure testing under load? Thanks.

ISO/AW46, Cat Hydo Avdanced 10 hyd. oil

Should probably call the previous owner on this one. Don't know what is in the hydraulic tank but suspect from the way the lift cylinders are leaking it is the cheapest available option. Anyway, from ISO46, AW46, Cat Advanced 10 and from what I am reading 10W motor oil... short of draining and starting over, does it hurt to mix hydraulic fluids? And, is 10W motor oil really an option?

580b case backhoe oil questions

I have what I believe is a 1973 580b case backhoe. (serial number 8714686)
it has the G188D engine and the shuttle shift.

I just did outer rear outer wheel bearings and seals. I'm having trouble verifying the type of oil called for in the final drive (my book makes no mention of oil type) also Id like to drain the trans and differential which the manual calls for sae 90wt for the trans and diff. is it the same for the final drive? do the differential and final drive share fluid?

also an I safely run 15-40 in the engine?

what are some of the best alternatives for the case hytran hydraulic oil. I read somewhere I can run hg46 in the hydraulic system but not in the shuttle?

ive spent hours searching this site and others and haven't gotten many definitive answers.
thanks

Advice for t190 1000 hr service

I am picking up a new to me 2006 Bobcat T190 with 1200hrs on it next week. I had it inspected by the local dealer, and it received a clean inspection, with the advice that it needs a 1000 hr service. I am trying to assemble all I need to make the job go as smoothly as possible. I want to change air, engine oil, fuel and hydraulic filters. Drain and replace engine oil, drain hydraulic tank and refill with new. Drain and replace drive motor oil, and replace (or clean?) the case drain filters. Will I need to order the drive motor oil and case drain filter from a Bobcat dealer? I have already picked up all other spin on filters and air filter from a local parts supplier. What is the correct hydraulic oil to refill with? Several posts on the forum have recomended AW 46 hydraulic oil..... correct? I read that I need a 3/4" hex key for the hydraulic tank fill.... got it. I have a pump to suck out the oil from tank... check. I have looked at a bunch of videos showing track removal strategies. Am I missing anything to get the job done?

Volvo L70 engine fan needed

Hi all

My L70 loader has been making a strange noise for a few days. I thought it was a misfire as it didn't seem to be running correctly. Turned more into a vibration yesterday and then heard a bang followed by a water leak.

The water pump bearing failed so the fan wasn't spinning straight. The fan was spinning unevenly and cracked and a blade went through the radiator.

Rad off being repaired and water pump will be exchanged tomorrow but I think I'm gonna have trouble getting a replacement fan. Local breaker hasn't got one and says Volvo have discontinued the part.

Does anyone here know where I can find one? The engine is a Volvo BM TD 45 B.

Cheers

Volvo L120e Good secondhand buy?

Hi, we run a small family sand and gravel pit in west wales uk, we've been running a Cat 950f series 2 for the last 15 years or so as the main machine and she's been great but she's coming up to twenty years old and 22,000 hours. We've been to view a 2006 Volvo l120e she's very tidy for the age and has done some 9,500 hours, I think she's first of the common rail, we would keep the faithful old cat as an second machine, any experience or opinions with these machines would be appreciated.

Block heater for Cummins B3.3 (in Snorkal TB60)?

It is a little tough to know where to put this thread. most boom lift threads are here, although this is really an industrial engine question. This B3.3 is a 2006 manufactured replacement engine from a factory rebuilding. Ser #68048575. It's up to about 1300 hours.

The manufacturer seems to specify a block heater in a small (about 9/16") freeze plug high in the block in the very center left side of the engine between the middle two cylinders.

unlike most freeze plugs that are larger but next to the cylinder wall this would require a long narrow straight heating element rather than a larger short element with a bend which is the standard generic on offer.

despite specifying this location for block heater, i can't find any reference to what after market heater they had in mind when they made this provision. It seems quite particularized. there is a tapped bolt hole next to the this plug that is apparently intended to hold the heater in so it would have a flanged plate that goes over the freeze plug hole instead of into it. given that it is only a single bolt hole, and not several to hold the plate throughout the circumference I would guess that the heater has an o-ring or expansion of some sort to seal.

cannot find any forum that really covers these engines (although they are apparently popular diesel converisons for jeeps.). And I assume but am not sure that they may have been used by Snorkel as original equipment in some years although the situation here is a retrofit. . .

The other concern I have with the specified hole, besides having trouble finding a heater that fits it, is that it is quite high on the block and I usually expect a heater to be lower so that the thermal circulation is better enabled. But maybe the heater would still displace colder water causing it to sink and creating thermal circulation effectively.

There are no heater hoses or takes offs that would facilitate an external heater that takes 5/8 or 3/4" barbed fittings. The radiator hoses are aftermarket accordion style, but i could replace the lower hose with two pieces and place a heater for 2" hose in that line, but both of the hoses go to the water pump housing which is high on the engine so i'm not sure, whether this would really warm the block that well.

Don't know if anyone has messed with these engines and not sure why cummins doesn't make better provision or their own part # heater, esp. where no glow plugs are fitting. What's the difference between paying 50 bucks for a heater and 150 bucks compared to being dead in the water . . . already had one cold morning where we had to charge it and wait for weather to warm to start it. And, even if I could reliably start it by topping the batteries in the winter, i think it is kinder to the engine to warm it up before you start it.

So appreciate anyone who has specific or generic ideas for approach to this.

brian

Outrigger leg repair: broken safety pin holes

The outrigger legs on my crane, unfortunately, have holes for the safety pin ripped up, probably due to jack seals leaking at some point. The attached pictures show damage.

I believe that outrigger jack seals are now in decent condition, probably replaced some time ago, however, I wanted to replace them as a safety precaution.

While I have outrigger legs out, I also want to repair the damage to the holes for the safety pin.

My plan was as follows:

1) Take the outrigger jack cylinder out
2) Machine a steel plate with holes, a bit thicker than the original outrigger leg. I can do that with my CNC milling machine.
3) Cut out a rectangular cutout the size of the above plate
4) Weld the new plate in

Do you think that there is any problem or safety concern with the above procedure?

The replacement outrigger legs from Grove are $2,200 each.

1993 volvo l180

I am looking at buying a 1993 volvo l180 loader with 20,000 on the clock. The loader has some visible issues to be fixed. Tires leaks etc. One issue is that the engine oil pressure light flashes the whole time the machine runs. I havent put a mechanical guage in it yet to test it. What are the chances that this is just a bad sensor? Also the machine only runs at 23 volts on the guage. Im guessing this is just a simple battery or altenator problem. The fuel shutoff needs to be wired open so that the machine stays running, of course im guessing this is due to low voltage. Can you guys chime in and let me know if any of these issues could be bigger problems inside? are there any other things i should look for with a machine with that amount of hours on it? thanks in advance!

Pull type compaction roller-will it get the job done?

I'm going to need to build a pad for the building I'm going to build. The building will be 50x125, but the pad will be about 150x150, thinking about coming up above grade about 3'-4' to be even with the road.

The soil is nasty expansive black gumbo, I'm going to be stabilizing with lime (I think I'm going to be incorporating with a big offset disc).

I'm going to be doing as much as possible myself, only thing I know I won't be doing myself is the concrete.

I'm trying to figure out the problem of compaction, I've been seeing rollers like this; http://ift.tt/1SpIVt5
And I'm wondering is that given enough passes, will these get the job done? I know this depends on the findings and recommendations of a soil engineer, but would it work in theory? I'll be my own construction crew, so time isn't an issue.

Thanks for any and all help.

JD 270LC electrical issues getting worse

2001 JD 270LC has had some throttle issues since i got it. Every time i started it up no matter what the dial was set at it would go full throttle until i chased it down with the dial. Later i could get it to start no problem at idle if i swept the dial from full down to idle slowly before i cranked it over. After a few weeks it would just turn over and never fire until i unbolted the shut off solenoid. I worked with it like that for awhile but now it won't even turn over unless i jump it but now it won't charge. Today i needed to use it and when i pulled the key out the dash was still lit and it started making a loud beeping sound. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. Also at some point when i turned the key over the back up beeper would make croaking noises for a few seconds. Slowly the electronics are dying or possessed.

All relays still work. Power is still going to where it needs to be. No fuses are blowing. The batteries are always charged fully. The only thing i can't figure out is the controller behind the seat. Is that a computer? Does it control everything including the starter? It has a red light on it that shuts off with the key (sometimes) but does nothing else? I'm at a loss here and so is my mechanic.

If it is that peice would an EX270-5 be the same? Don't want to buy something that won't work.

Convert Government spec (DOD) 988B/DV43 Container Handler to front end loader

Hello all,

I've been looking at these machines

http://ift.tt/1Q5pmXv

for a time now and having owned a 988B loader for 8+ years in the past, we are in the market for one or two B and F series right now. What concerns me with Gov (DOD) spec equipment is the arrangement specs. For example... The transmission for a 988B/DV43 Container Handler may be different than a civilian industry spec machine. The front end of a container handler can be removed / replaced with a front end frame to receive Boom and bucket to convert to a front end loader. I have access to very cheap front ends and frames to convert together with hydraulic pumps / valves / etc..
Cat already makes the 988 models such as wheeled push dozers, soil / landfill compactors etc..so my question is, what is the obvious obstacles for such a conversion from a military spec... from a civilian spec... 988 Wheeled push dozer / landfill compactor etc.. to convert to a front end loader.

Happy Thanksgiving all

I have found a nice looking 943 with about 10500 hrs on it for sale locally. The u/c looks terrible but the rest looks to be in decent condition. Would it be crazy to add a machine this old with these hours to my others for daily use? The reason I like this size , I can haul it with my current rig. It would see 500 hrs a year mostly loading topsoil and the occasional basement and clearing job. Provided I can buy it right and replace the undercarriage I think as long as it held together it would fit the bill for my needs. Any input or advice would be appreciated.

Bobcat/Cat comparison

vendredi 27 novembre 2015

First time posting here. I've been around this forum for awhile reading posts and replies and thought i could share a recent experience with two of the top name CTL's. Let me say I am a Cat fan first and foremost. Iv'e ran a lot of different equipment over the years and prefer a CAT. That by far does not mean it is the best, but what i prefer. So onto the comparison.

We have rented various CTL's over the years to do our fine grade work and have settled into CAT's 279 or 289, which, i prefer the 279(another story). We mainly use them for our light medium to fine grade work around residential and commercial construction, Topsoil placement, driveway/sidewalk work, etc. With information and opinions gathered from various sources, including this site, I chose to make a call to the local bobcat dealer and check out one of their CTL's. Having never ran a bobcat CTL, I spent some time talking with the rental rep getting some information. He then transferred me over to sales, and that rep set up a demo for a T650. I was skeptical, having run Cats so long, but the rep assured me the machine was up to the task and two days later it was on the job.

First impressions of the machine were positive. It looked smaller than the 279/289 we normally use but the specs were relatively close. The rep went over the machine and pointed out the highlights and features and left me to operate.

-One of the first things i noticed and huge benefit IMO is the cab door. The way the door opens without the bucket being in the way and the latch mechanism for the door is a much better design. The design of the Cats door relies heavily on the bucket and arms being in the down position. A slight bit up and the door does not open or the door hits and/or binds. The bobcat has much more room in that area to open the door and climb in and out and the bucket does not interfere. Impressed.

-After climbing in and sitting down, another big difference i noticed was visibility. I was able to turn my head and see out of the machine behind me. Visibility out of the side was a little better, but not huge. The Cat has very little visibility out of the rear and relies on a mirror or the backup camera. Not a huge deal but definitely noticeable.

-The seat in the bobcat, while not bad, is not as good as the Cat. I'm a bigger guy at 6 foot 220 with broad shoulders and the seat in the Cat has a higher back which feels a little more comfortable. The bobcat's seat isn't uncomfortable, just lacks height. The seating position and leg room seem comparable between both machines. Let's be serious here, any extended amount of time operating any CTL will get the knees asking for a stretch. The control levers length adjustment seem to go out a tad further in the Cat. I noticed it as i have long arms, but not where it was uncomfortable or awkward to operate.

-The screens and startup on both machines were very nice and easy to use. The Cat may have a touch more adjustment with the bar graphs controlling speed but nothing the average user will notice or use that often. The bobcats was just fine in that department. Upon starting the engine, i noticed a huge difference in NVH. The cat at idle/operating RPM is much smoother and quieter in the cab. The company owner hopped in and that was one of the things he noticed right off the bat as well. Once the revs come up you feel less vibration and noise in the cab but the Cat is still a touch more quiet in that department. The HVAC vent placement seem to be a touch better in the bobcat. I'm a premadonna and want my heat and air. The Cat had a radio and the bobcat didn't. I love the bluetooth and mic function where i can take a call and still operate. Yes, you can get a radio in the bobcat, but this one didn't have one.

-The operation of the bobcat was almost flawless. The controls were precise and the machine did everything as controlled and stopped moving forward when you let off. Something the Cat doesn't do well. It seems to take a tick to stop/drift ever so small once the control lever is in the center/ not moving forward. The machine sits lower than the Cat and felt a touch more balanced. It didn't seem like it wanted to squat then go like the Cat. It felt a slight bit smoother in operation and not jerky like the Cat. I have noticed a difference from machine to machine with the Cats and some do it more than others. Rentals are rarely taken care of well and the last one may have been abused as it had almost 1k hours on it.

- Power really seemed close between the two machines. Iv'e seen/heard my machine out pushes this or that. Well, this particular side by side comparison wasn't like that. The machines seemed to have equal push power, track power, etc. They both will do what is in a realm of expectation for a machine of their size. They both felt strong and capable. I loaded a small single axle with some topsoil and the lift was good. I'm not sure if there is a setting for the bucket control to keep level as you raise, but the Cat does it and the bobcat didn't. Got a small amount of dirt showered. I chalk that up to me not being familiar with the machine and sure that can be fixed.

-The tracks on the bobcat as explained to me by the sales rep seem to be of better construction. I didn't cut it apart to verify but i'm sure if one were to research, one could find out how much better they are or not. The undercarriage seemed stout, but so did the Cats. Noting really noticeable there.

-Engine layout seemed more compact in the bobcat. Cat's design was more open and accessible. The rep explained that most items that go out are right there when you open the door and easy access to repair. Meh. Both ways are good.

My apologies for being long winded but this is an extremely brief summary and highlight of what i experienced with both machines and though it may be helpful to others. I have much more information but it's late and i don't want to bore people. I walked away impressed with the bobcat. It was not what i had expected. That's saying a lot coming from this Cat guy. Was i impressed enough to switch and buy a bobcat vs a Cat? Maybe. As i have read elsewhere from what others said, it comes down to price, availability, service and Customer service. The Cat dealer here is pretty good. However, so it the bobcat dealer. Maybe brand loyalty comes into play like ford vs chevy. You can't go wrong with either machine. Do what i did and set up a demo to see for yourself. You may be surprised.

bobcat dozer blade on case 380

I have a case 380 that does NOT have an elec hookup, I bought a bobcat 6 way dozer blade. Since I don't have elec hookup, would it not be best just to go to bobcat and buy their machine elec hookup and install it on my case 380. I know if I get a case elec hookup it will not operate the bobcat blade.
any suggestions

FOR SALE: CTR 400 delimber

I have a complete delimber still mounted on loader frame, cut off right behind landing gear, the slide to move with skidder is still inplace. It would be very possible to cut a loader frame and weld this in-place and be ready to work. All plumbing and accumilator box is also attached. It has a new rubber bladder, new saw chain motor and knife cylinders been replaced. It is a turn table model and works fine. Make me a fair offer or will consider trade for a tigercat or koering saw head, or a stacking rack for a large rubber tired loader.

New clutches/and Bell housing gasket 580ck and some advice

Hi all im prepping the old girl so i can split the tractor and replace the shuttle discs and replace bell housing gasket ( its leaking shuttle oil ).I would like to remove the top loader arms and bucket before i split it has anyone ever took the arms off at the top of the arm where it rides on a bushing or ? i have in the past spread the two hydraulic tanks (left and right) to remove the spacer pipe so i could pull the fuel tank. But im wondering about just popping the loader lift arms and remove the cylinders and pull the arms and bucket all at once any ideas on this.
I am also looking for input on rebuilding the TWIN DISC shuttle and the shuttle valves and torque converter. I have owned this old girl for about 3 years now it didnt move at all when i got it (busted keyway for shuttle pump ) fixed that and have used it every since but its like when the oil warms up the clutch disc start slipping and since day one i have to let it warm up before it wants to move.I have read a lot about this on here with a variety of causes so i am wanting to take care of all of it while i have it split. The one thing that makes me want to redo the shuttle valves are when im warming it up with the rear tires off the ground the tractor in gear and throttled up a little is it shows 180 clutch pressure and i push the clutch in about 1/4 the way and the pressure drops but the tires spin better im uncertain if maybe i have bad orings on the spools or what.So as long as im doing the gasket anyway i would like to eliminate the clutch problems as well so any advice would be of great help. Thanks

Thread size for counterweight removal on ED150srlc (same as SK135-1E I think)

Could anyone identify the size fastener needed to lift the counterweight off of my dead kobelco? Local dealer says its not in book. Holes are extremely rusty within and need to be retapped. The hole size measures 32mm, meaning it should be a M33 or M34 size?

Steel chunks everywhere in the system. Haven't figured out how they got into the hydraulic tank, though, as "most" of the oil back to tank is via the return filter. Bucket cylinder rod/ nut failure appears to be the original source.

opinions wanted

OK was wondering if anyone has any opinion or experience with the below models.
and can offer me any insight to what to look for on these used skid steer's(well tracked skid steers)
looking at these two right now
one is a 2006 deere model CT322, has 1,000 hrs, and other is a 2009 cat model 257B2 with 2200 hrs
both are at about the same price near $17,000.00,
I have very little real hands on experience with skid steers, ran a few off and off over the yrs, but never for any real amount of time and NVER had to do any work on any,

is there any area's on them I should pay closer attention to, to look for wear and or tear!

I am trying to get a friend of a friend that works on Bobcat brand equipment for a living, but his schedule has been hard to get him to tag along
I am in NO Hurry for one, been looking now for about 4 months LOL

looking for a spring time project, so started looking early, to allow for time to find a decent buy!

but with winter coming, snow work can be a plus if these pan out??
is the 17 k a fair price too??
both machine look OK as far as paint and visually wear and tear, but I just don't know a LOT about them to be honest!
so all help would be appreciated

Annual mechanical inspection form ?

I'm in BC, Canada.
Besides my daily operator's inspection, an annual structural inspection (magnaflux every accessable weld), and operator Certification, "Worksafe BC" is now requiring an annual mechanical inspection "by a qualified person".
In discussing this with my Worksafe BC rep., I told him that I do all of my own maintenance and repairs, he suggested that (for now at least) they would accept my doing my own annual inspection but I was to keep a written record of it.
Anyone out there with what might be an "appropriate" "Mobile Crane Annual Mechanical Inspection Form" ??
Failing that, suggestions as to what I should include on my own "home made" form. :)
Thanks in advance.

Track Roller Oil Level Plugs on 941 Loader

I took the plugs out of the bottom track rollers on the 941 track loader that I recently acquired, to check the oil level in them & see that someone had pumped grease into all the rollers, likely because seals were leaking I am thinking. No oil comes out of any of them, they are just full of what appears to be GP grease. Since they are full of grease I will leave it that way & try to pump a little in from time to time which will hopefully extend the life of them. Will putting a little grease in from time to time damage the seals if I am careful? Does anyone know what thread the plugs have, as I would like to make up an adaptor to couple up to my grease gun, to pump some grease in? They appear to be a straight thread of some sort.

Michigan 175b Slow

We bought a 175B Michigan Clark wheel loader S/N: 427C167, and we have used it a little bit around farm in the last 3 years, but now we started it today after sitting for 5 months and are having trouble getting it to move. The brakes seem to be releasing as it will free wheel down a hill if you let it. We just got it in the shop and noticed a puddle of oil on the floor as well, seems to be coming from up near the torque converter housing/pumps. Seems to me like the torque converter might not be working properly, any advice on what we should do, or look for?I can get you more information if you need.

Case 450C transmission bearing noise...how to repair?

Hi,

I picked up a generally decent CASE 450C recently for $7000, figuring I could afford a few repairs getting it at that price. All is well, except now I am using it a lot and can hear a distinct worn-bearing type noise when pushing a load in the low speed setting (meaning the low setting on the steering sticks and not the hi-lo gear on the input shaft). The noise is somewhat similar to the sound of a stick shift car when driven fast in reverse. The noise vanishes when pushing the sticks forward into the high setting. Does anyone have a clear idea what this sound is likely to be (i.e. which bearing), and whether this bearing repair is possible with the transmission in the frame? I should also ask if a certain amount of this noise is normal in any way due to the low speed gearing?

The machine has 5716 hours on it.

Many thanks for any help!

CAT 315C L engine info ....... please

I'm trying to find a replacement engine for CAT excavator 315CL ANF00325 s/n 0315CTANF00325. Japanese built according to ironplanet.com, Ritchie Specs says it has a 3046T engine in it, I had deduced, for various reasons, that the engine was a Mitsubishi and a possible supplier is telling me that the engine is in fact a re-badged 1004 series Perkins going under the model name 3054

Oooh how grateful I would be for any clarification.

Cat 951 fuel pressure

Been running my loader for a few days now and the last 2 times its been hard to start. Fuel filter has been changed, also installed a new hand primer. I have fuel going to the injectors. I've noticed when I use the hand primer and it builds pressure up, it will lose pressure in about 30 seconds. I can watch the fuel pressure gauge go from normal to out.
I don't see any fuel leaks anywhere. What do I need to check inorder to find the problem?

Newbie needing advice on first big truck, hook lift

I started a land clearing / mulching business and realized I will soon need something bigger than a 1 ton. I don't know anything about big trucks. ID like to be able to carry everything on the truck most of the time. My primary equipment is a skidsteer and mulcher (14k), root grapple(1.5k?), generator, air compressor, tool box(which currently replaced my back seat in my dmax), chains, chain saws, leaf blower, air hoses, ext cords, etc. I'd like to have that on a flatbed hook lift and be able to swap to a dumpster if needed and tow the equipment on a trailer.

I've also thought about building my own hook lift system. is that a good idea?

BTW I'm not rich..

I'll need a tandem axle truck for weight, traction off road and stopping power.

I'm not sure how much hp I need but more is always better right?

A good used truck set up how I want it is expensive so I'm considering something like an L9000 and rebuilding the engine. I saw where ebay had in frame kits for $1600?? That seems really cheap. I also saw a government L9000, 40k miles, very clean, in California for 30k. Theoretically that seems like a good deal.

What should I look for and what should I avoid? Like certain engines or transmissions? I'd like to have something like an old dodge 12 or 24 valve, good injectors and injection pumps. Simple and reliable. Easy to work on.

Any and all advice is appreciated. **** talking is also welcome if followed up by helpful advice.

I own a 1991 Case 1845c skid steer. The right bucket tilt cylinder operates faster than the left. I rebuilt the left cylinder thinking that the cylinder was bypassing, but that did not work. Welding bosses on boom at boom to stick instead of line boring?

I've got an IHI 80 mini excavator that I'm rebushing and have a lot of wear in the boom at the boom to stick area. After taking it apart the bushings in the stick were not pressed in very tight and came out pretty easy. After getting the new bushings I figured the stick needs to be line bored and have a local machine shop that will oversize the hole and install a sleeve so the oem bushings fit tight again. The other issue is the boom has a lot of slop on the ears where the stick mounts and needs to be resized also. The machine shop can't do this as they can't get the machine inside and I'd have to take the boom off to do the job, which I prefer not to do. A local line borer wants about $1300 to do this job and is pretty busy right now. My question is couldn't I just have some bosses made of some 4140 and weld them to the sides of the boom? I'd like to use a custom pin anyways as the oem retention system is really bad at that area and what caused the problem in the first place. Right now the way the boom is, the pin only contacts about an inch on each ear of the boom. I figured I could put a 3 inch boss on each side of the boom and that would be plenty strong enough. I also would have one of the bosses drilled and the pin and use that as a retainer. I think the hard part would be getting everything squared up properly so the stick is square to the boom. There's obviously a trick to do this. Any advice?

Winch cable maintenance

Not sure if I'm doing this right so I'll ask. I have a nice little JD350 short track dozer with what looks like a 24T Carco winch on it. Every year I'll lash the cable to a big tree with a trunk saver, put on a little brake drag and drive it out to the very end. I'll loose wrap a rag around the line and run it back and forth to check for snags, Once its snag free I'll get a gallon jug of bar and chain lube, put on some rubber gloves, wrap my fingers around the cable and pour the oil into my hand as I walk backwards. I can usually get the cable to suck up about a quart to quart and a half of oil. Its a 100' 5/8 cable. After it sits for a couple minutes, I'll spin up the winch and let it pull the dozer back to the tree so its all laid on nice and flat. Is bar oil good enough or should i get some #1 grease? Any better ways to do this?

Ford 750 rebuild, weak tranny questions

mercredi 25 novembre 2015

Hi all,

I have a Ford 750 TLB that I've been resurrecting, and right now I have the motor out for a sleeve job (it's got a cylinder wall cavitation pinhole).

My question is this: what if anything should I do to the torque converter and/or tranny while the engine is out?

It's hard to say since I don't have anything to gauge it against, but it seemed like I wasn't get much power to the wheels, certainly not as much as the engine seemed to be making. 1st and 2nd gear work, and 3rd is almost useless except on flat pavement or downhill. Uphill in 1st, on say a 20-25% grade, with the engine rev'd pretty high it moves but it's very slow. It digs alright though.

I'm not very familiar with automatic transmissions per se, but what if anything could be going on? Is the torque converter not transmitting power to the tranny? My understanding is that the transmission shifts by having various hydraulically actuated clutches "grab" the appropriate gear, and since the thing shifts okay, is that all it needs to do, or do these clutches somehow slip too? There is a dump valve, which again I don't know much about, but could that be something to look at?

I've filled the hydraulic oil reservoir and changed the filter.

Comments?

Thanks!

Looking at a Cat 239d. New small frame track machine. Looking to add a track loader to the rental fleet. We have three tire bobcat loaders with hand and foot controls.

Luber-Finer oil fillter------------------NEED HELP

I have this old tractor---M R S---Mississippi Road Service. It has a canister type Luber-finer oil filter--the filter element is 15 inches high.
I removed the filter and the two rubber hoses on the bottom of the canister--these hoses go to the engine block. Needed to replace the hoses. Anyway I put some diesel fuel into the canister to help clean it out. I figured the fuel would drain out on the bottom of the canister where I had removed the hoses----DIDN'T DRAIN OUT..........I was able to hit them with air from the bottom where the hoses were located and one of them took air into the canister.
QUESTION----How do these things work and do I fill it with oil and also the crankcase. Are they plugged because the diesel fuel used for cleaning didn't drain our the bottom?????????//

Trench Compaction

I need to put in 2300' of 2" IPS HDPE and 14-2 direct burial wire 2' and 1.5' deep respectivly. I would prefer to use a cable plow but no one around here rents them for that small of a project. So, I have to use my trencher. My issue is the trench goes down the middle of a step road so it needs to be compacted really well. I saw 4" x 42" diameter compaction wheels for skid steers and excavator but they are pricey and will kill most of my profit.

Does anyone have any cleaver ideas for compacting the trench?

What is hard or costly to fix on forklift

Been looking around for a 3 to 5K pneumatic tired (gravel and concrete) forklift. Not in a commercial business so not looking for a machine that will work all day, just very now and then. Mainly to move around trails and boats inside my barn and shop. Found several or craigslist and LSN but what would be the things to stay away from?

Have rebuilt automatic tanny's, diesel engines and hydraulic systems. So if I found a "needs work" forklift what would be the things to look for and walk away from?

Good diesel mechanic in Chicago?

I have a Grove Rt-60S crane with a Cummins V504C V8 diesel engine.

The engine works, but leaks from the bottom oil pan seal.

I can take the engine out myself and reseal it. But I wanted to get a good mechanic to look at it while it is still inside to see if it also needs a rebuild, such as new rings and liners. May make sense to do if the engine is already out.

I can do all the heavy lifting, get the engine out, and he can do it in my shop.

Would anyone recommend such a diesel mechanic near Chicago. I am in Berkeley, IL. Thanks a lot

Case 350B wont come out 1st, no 2nd/3rd

So we finally got the transaxle back from the dealer who installed all the parts. Put it back in, track in, reconnected everything. But when first started up and in neutral on the shifter. The transmission is still in 1st gear. And when I try 2nd or 3rd it doesnt click quite right on the shifter, And the machine lugs/wont move. I took the shifter off and checked everything. The gears seem to slide easily and the shifter doesnt seem to have anything wrong with it. Has someone messed with anything like this? the only thing I can think of would be the tech installed the gears in the wrong order, But by the looks its correct.
This is when I pulled the shifter off in should be neutral position.

Help me find the right backhoe/tractor - list of requirements

Hi all, happy thanksgiving. I am new here and looking for some help. In the last 5 years I have tried/operated many different types of equipment and they're all great at different things. Mini Exes, CTL's, skid steers, full-size tractor/loader/backhoe, etc. I'm looking for something that can do most of these things...but doesn't have to be great at any of them.

I think I have settled on a medium size tractor/loader/backhoe but I can't find the right model and dealers haven't been helpful. Can anyone think of a piece of equipment that meets the criteria below?

-weighs under 10,000. I want to be able to pull it with a 14k trailer and F350.
-has 3 point hitch in back for common farm implements
-has backhoe in back that can dig at least 9 feet and aux hydraulics that will let me swap the bucket for a breaker and/or auger
-detachable loader upfront with aux hydraulics that will let me swap the bucket for a snowblower
-enclosed cab with heat
-simple enough that someone like me with general repair skills can access most things (aka not a bobcat)

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Adams / Wabco 666 hyrdaulic issue

Hello everyone,
I'm having a strange hydraulic issue with my Adams 666 grader. Went to run it and the hydraulic tank was pretty much empty, but there's no puddle or leaks anywhere under the machine. I filled up the hydraulic reservoir and started it up, everything was fine, then after a little while it sounded like the pumps were cavitating. Again there's no fluid in the reservoir but now there's hydraulic fluid coming out of the vent for the power distribution box. So somehow the oil isn't making it back to the reservoir from the power distribution box. Is there a scavenge/return pump in there somewhere or am I going to be looking for a clog somewhere? I have a set of manuals but it didn't have anything really relevant in there... Any help would be great!

what size screens for diamond z tub ginder

I would like to know what size screens to get for a diamond z 8000tkt. first grind was done with 4x6". We tried a progressive setup with a 1.5" first sceen and a 3x5 on the second screen for the 2nd grind, but Im not happy with the product. This setup makes an inconstant mulch. I would like a fairly fine mulch with nothing over 3". I think the 3x5 is allowing too big of material through.

What would be a good combination? I'm thinking progressive is not the way to go.

Thanks!

Hydraulic leak from main valve block.

Hi all,

I was removing a pool with my js240 when we notice a severe hydraulic leak. Upon closer inspection it seems to be coming from rear top section of the main control valve. Does anyone have experience with leaking control valves?

I thought the block was pressed together with a gasket running down the centre but according to schematics there is no gasket, just a load of Orings.

The Orings set I priced at $300 ex UK

We are going to attempt to repair this ourselves but just seeking some advice before we begin tomorrow.

Thanks and regards
Andy

2005 caterpillar 950gII

Hello. I am working on a caterpillar 950g. It had a bunch head issues that are fixed now. But the loader will not fire. We've put a new injector wire harness on timing sensor oil pressure sensor. Two new injectors a new transfer pump. Prior to doing the head work the loader would start but run rough and smoke a lot due to engine oil getting into the cylinders. Does anyone know how to clear the codes without having to call cat to plug into it with a computer? I'm thinking it threw a code that won't let it run now. Thanks in advanced for any info.

Case CX210C Fuel Filter Issues

This should maybe be in the "Things I've seen me do" thread. Taking down trees, didn't want to waste time putting thumb on until morning. Tree got away, part came around and landed on right side of machine, right on fuel tank filler neck. Fuel cap flies, tree bends the neck all to hell, fills the screen full of tree stuff. I assumed screen caught most of the chunks, but today fuel filter indicator comes on. Drive 120 miles to get filters because (of course) nobody has them. Changed out, ran 3 hours, plugged. Changed out, 3 hours, plugged. I hope there isn't a check valve/screen somewhere between primary filter and tank because I pushed some air back through and going to give it a go tomorrow. Looking in tank, I can see through the fuel and does not appear to be anything in bottom of tank. I guess my question for a Case guy(since I don't have a parts book) is there anything besides hose between primary filter and tank outlet?

Ok so I have decided on the Kubota SVL 90-2, thank you for all the input.

Definitely going to get a high flow to run a mulching head, and a Demo door.

The question is "Is the forestry kit, worth the price?"

It is an extra $3000 to add the forestry kit. It seems like a good idea to add some steel to protect the vital areas from damage but I want to get some thoughts of the experienced folks.

Thanks

Gas Axe , Torch Tips, Tips

Well if you're in construction or are a mechanic. ....
the Last thing you need is a tip that's plugged or hard to clean.
It's seems when you're on a job and have to use a torch that
Everyone and their dog have been using. .....for a chipping hammer. ....it's plugged!
The smaller the holes are in the tip.......
The harder they are to clean or Unplug!
If you don't know much about torch tips. ......Buy the tip cleaner First!
And make sure the three smallest cleaners in your pack Don't fit your tip!

engine overheating

I have an old CAt D5B, 3308 motor that has sat for a long time with well water(high calcium content)/anti freeze in the radiator. Have used it sporadically over last 10 to 15 years, but recently the temp guage had been slowly rising to close to red line. When I let it idle, it would not cool down.

Recently ran a gallon of CAT radiator flush through it. noticed it got hot somewhat slower and when quit pushing and let it idle, temp did back off toward normal, so apparently did some good. was thinking of taking radiator out to get it professionally rodded out, but real hassle doing that. Any ideas of further steps to get possible calcium out of the radiator/block before I refill with distilled water/anti-freeze?
I don't use it much, just a ranch dozer, but getting ready for a minor project that I don't want to worry about temp overheat while I do a couple of acres of clearing.
Thanks!

Boom arm hard going down

I have an ASV 4500 skid loader starts off running fine the Boom arm goes up and down very easy the lever control moves easy as well. after about an hour the boom will not go down very easy. I have to push very hard on the lever which is very stiff to get the boom to go down any thoughts on what could be causing this problem. After it sits for a few hours it runs fine again for about another hour.

D4D seat back mount

Have new seats made to match the trashed originals and thought I had the mount for the seat back figured out. The old mount was gone, just the board and threaded inserts remained. Anyone with a picture of the stock attachment(s)?

The service manual mentions removing four bolts to remove the seat back, mine looks like it used to be a lift-out with the seat back having a slotted metal strap on the back that dropped over a couple flat headed studs.

So I am going to give a plug for a relatively new product. I am in no way connected to the company, so don't go hitting the spam button...:D

I bought one of these a coupla years ago, can't praise it highly enough. If I had had it years ago, I'd have cases of grease sitting around, and cleaner fingernails...:cool2

Best $ 30 I have ever spent on a tool. It is only slightly bigger than a standard grease chuck, so there may be 2-3 fittings, in a hundred, that may give you some trouble getting to, but even with a regular chuck, they'll give you trouble, too. Enjoy:drinkup

Machines with higher hours and regular maintenance,or Low hours and poor maintenance?

So after a trip to a local dealer today to look at a municipal one owner Champion blade I was left pondering which is the lesser of 2 evils.

Machine 1- 1996 720 champion series 4 with 11k hours, county owned, well maintained, fair rubber, no leaks, only real issue is the front end getting loose and the tires at about 30% . Seemed to be a pretty solid blade, just had some hours on it.

Machine 2- 1995 Champion 720 series 4 w/ 4100 hours on it. One owner city machine. Rubber looked new, relatively tight machine, sounds like the Holy Grail of used machines over the phone. Went and looked at it and the first thing I noticed is none of the fluids or filters have been changed since 2009-2011. Engine oil was dirty and the motor had several "seaps" that were producing enough oil to leave a slick on the differential. Also the paddle shifter was finicky and at times didn't want to shift up like it should of in the forward ranges. Didn't appear to be any electrical fault codes so it was probably in the shifter.

Its hard for me to get excited about either machine for the money (30-35k) For all intents and purposes I've got more confidence in the low hour machine but no maintenance records are available. If the 4k hour machine had been in the same physical condition as the 11k hour machine I'd probably have written a check today, but the lack of maintenance and the laziness of the dealership (its been on the lot for a month) irritated me enough to loose interest.

In your opinions what is the lesser of the 2 evils? High hours and good maintenance or Low hours, sitting around, and possible poor maintenance?

1970 Case 580CK Gauges

I just purchased a 1970 Case 580CK TBL. The previous owner completely gutted the wiring for the instrument panel and lights, except for the fuel gauge.

I'm looking for an inexpensive temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, amp meter, and ignition switch. But the parts that I've found on Ebay don't reference the 580CK and the dealer parts are way too expensive.

Does anyone know where I can get these parts? I'm particularly interested in finding an oil pressure gauge that is compatible with this tractor.

It is a 188 diesel with a standard clutch.

Thanks,

Mark Out Problem.

I received a letter in mail regarding an emergency mark out. It stating that there is a possible violation. What had happened is that it was the first time working for this builder and he called me stating that he wanted to replaced a water service the next day. He stated the water service was leaking and needed to be replaced. The contractor that he normally used has been increasing acting irrational and he believed that he mayne using drugs. Well I called the mark out and the next day while I was there, the former contractor showed up, making a big deal about the mark out. Saying that he was going to complain about it. Well I guess he did. The letter is requesting a response in writing, Any ideas how to respond to this? The service it self was no problem. The water was turned off prior to me getting there and there was 3 or for old services in the ground when I dug,

Which backhoe is Easiest to rebuild and maintain?

I am looking at purchasing a backhoe. I am a heavy equipment / class 8 mechanic for a small construction company. I specialize in Refactory pumps. The last company I worked for and currently I am the shop welder. The company I work for owns all Case 580 hoes. I have little experience with Caterpillar and I have never worked on a JD. I know I DONT want to buy a caterpillar for a few select reasons. I am partial to Case because that's what I have grown up with and always maintained and repaired but I have run across a fairly good deal on a 99John Deere 410e in good to excellent condition. My question is this specifically I am under the impression that Case has bushing for every pin in the back hoe for a few reasons one being the ductile iron boom. The John Deere has bushings but not as many. What are some of your guys experience with John Deere or with both. would you consider the rebuild-ability to be close to the same or one more difficult than another. I don't care about comfort or personal preference between the machines just strictly cost of long term maintenance. Would anyone be concerned with buying the John Deere over waiting to find a deal on a Case?

Hello, All,

I'm probably a fish out of water here, but as a long-time lurker, have spent numerous hours happily reading your questions, answers, and comments. A lasting impression is of the hugely-high level of professionalism exhibited by you posters, albeit it is somewhat apparent that fools are not suffered gladly hereabouts. If I fit in the latter category, please advise, soonest.

Growing up on a smallish grow-everything-including-tobacco NC farm gave me an early memory of a cable-operated TD-24 brought to the farm to clear more farmland. Toward the last of the job, the operator hung it on a stump, so every day after school for a solid week I would hi-tail it across the branches (small creeks) to where it sat, climb on, and let my imagination run wild; it was a sad day for me when the owner recovered it. I did have about 1,500 hours on, mostly, a John Deere 40 wheeled tractor by the time I was 15.

About the time of the TD-24, I read "Bulldozer," Stephen Meader's children's book about a 17-year old lad who in the deep woods discovered a submerged and abandoned D2, and the tale of his recovery, resurrection, and gainful employment of that little dozer. Sixty years later I found the book still in print, so I purchased two volumes for small grandsons, but for sure I happily re-read one before it was mailed onward. While Meader used artistic license to portray the D-2 as being trailerable behind his momma's car (to me, a scary thought), the book is most readable for a seven, eight or nine-year-old.

College and I didn't do well the first time, so following the lead of many young men at that time, I joined the army, to find that infantry, while aptly named the queen of battle, was not the cowboys and Indians I had naively imagined. Some new army friends mentioned another school that we could sign up for after infantry school, so we did and were promptly sent to the MP's for a year, which was neat duty. We finally got dates for our school in Texas, and were introduced to machines that, essentially, are required to beat the air into submission to function. After that school, we went to different units in Vietnam, where we operated those air beaters.

Fast forward 12 years --Ten years out of service, college finished, married (as of today, 45 years), working as a commercial real estate appraiser (which I still do), when a friend mentioned that the National Guard was bringing some BIG air beaters to town. I joined up, and became a crane operator. These cranes were kind of unconventional in that they used a turbine starter motors, had no booms, for propulsion used old Navy turbine engines that drank about 450 gallons of fuel per hour, had 3 (three) operator stations, and are now mostly used for hauling water to fires and pulling logs out of otherwise inaccessible areas. So, I spent about 15 years as a Flying Crane operator, and had a great time with a great bunch of guys and gals.

This forum has provides a much better understanding of, dare I say, "Yellow Equipment" and the men and women who operate them, maintain them, own them, and plan for them.

Today, let me leave you with this: A normal profit is part of cost, and excessive profit breeds ruinous competition. If, over time, you aren't making a normal profit, perhaps you need to find another way to go about whatever you're doing. Correspondingly, if over time you're making a whole lot more money than your competition, your competition will soon find a way to weasel in on your gig by offering to provide the same service for a lower price, which means that all may soon be making less than a normal profit.

My apologies for being so verbose, but my I guess my typing fingers just get away from me. My sincere thanks to all who have, and do, contribute to this forum so that this Friendly New Guy, who's never operated or maintained "Yellow Equipment (or green or orange, or???), can live vicariously and enjoy the many glimpses into "your" worlds here offered.

Parking brake "sticks" randomly. Operator can be traveling and parking brake will activate. The last few weeks, the operator has had to toggle the switch on and off so we replaced the switch.

We have replaced parking brake switch - worked a few days
Checked solenoid at hydraulic block- worked a few days

Hydraulics work ok 99% of the time.

Equipment also has no backup alarm. Alarm was replaced, but we've been focused on the drive ability issue for now. Operator has been saying it would crank, run and shut off. Let it rest, crank, and would run the rest of the day.

I'm not an big equipment diagnostics person and I'm asking for advice. The local JD dealer isn't interested in old equipment. Thanks in advance.

Bobcat 331, removing main boom cylinder?

Howdy all. Long time reader but first time poster.
I have a 2002 Bobcat 331 Mini Ex that I need to redo the internal seals on the main boom cylinder. Started to remove the cylinder last night and I can't get the pin at the base of the cylinder to budge. I have whacked on it quite a bit with a 5 lb sledge and get nothing. Afraid to get any more aggressive for fear of damaging the casting that houses the pin. Is it better to just remove the rod from the cylinder and do the seals and leave the cylinder in place on the machine?

Couple of pics attached.

Sectoral Employment Forecast in 2016

In 2008, there were 2.03 million people in employment. By 2016, total employment is expected to be 77,000 lower than in 2008, recovering from a low of 1.7 million in 2010. In 2008, one quarter of employment was in the market services sector (finance, business services, hotels and other), just under one fifth in health and education, 14% in distribution (retail, wholesale and motor) and 13% in construction. By 2016, the sectoral distribution of employment will change somewhat. Traditional manufacturing is expected to lose 2 percentage points of its share and account for 5% of total employment by 2015. Construction is expected to account for 10% of employment in 2015 compared to 13% in 2008; agriculture for 4% compared to 6%. An increase in share is expected to be observed in market services, high tech manufacturing and transport and communications.

Case 450b tranny slipping problem

I have a 450b and it'll move when it's cold but no real umph to it and doesn't like to turn almost like the tranny is slipping in an automatic car and it gets worse as it warms up any ideas? I just bought it and knew about the issue but for $1500 figured i might as well give it a shot

ASV RC 30 with Cat 3013 engine...

Been a while since I been here, haven't had much to complain about, I suppose. Have an engine question, Cat 3013 (3 cyl, 31.4 HP), A/R 177-9706, Serial # 4XD00805. It is leaking across the top of the injector pump, looks like across all 3 outgoing lines, at the plate, that holds them. You can pump the primer bulb, with the engine not running, and see the leak. When machine is running, the bulb is hard, and there is just barely a seep, if it's not just leftover diesel, from it leaking, while not running.

Questions I have:

Anyone have the R&R instructions? I plan on removing, having the pump rebuilt (local rebuilder says $100/hole), and then re-installing it.

I understand this pump is timed by how many shims there are, between the pump, and the housing. Any fear of it changing the timing, just from a R&R? Machine has 2000 hrs on it.

Torque values for the bolts to block?

Any tips?

Thanks for any info, I can't find a manual for this motor, and don't trust the manual sellers (often out of the country) who want $260 for it. Cat doesn't seem to be too user friendly, on motors that aren't in their machines...:Banghead:Banghead

How to Rebuild the Backhoe Control Valves - 580CK with Model 33 Backhoe

I have my 1968 580CK restored and looking pretty good, but have not started the backhoe rebuild.

Name: 580CK Bucket Painted 063.jpg Views: 2 Size: 65.0 KB

Last weekend I went to move a bucket of sandy soil without the heavy backhoe attached and the rear tires are getting very little traction since the weight of the front loader is acting like a sea-saw with a fat kid on one end and little varmit on the other end. I was spinning tires, and had to off-load half the bucket before being able to move the dirt.

So, I realized that I need to rebuild the backhoe Control Tower/Valves pronto so I can mount the backhoe and again have good weight on the rear tires.

Here is a pic of the Control Tower that I need to replace alot of the ORings. Can someone give me any tips/suggestions before I tackle this job? After removing the metal cover (in pic), do I just take the next bolt off, and then extract the entire assembly? I have all the ORings (thanks to Dale at Tractor Stuff) needed to do the rebuild, but was hoping to get some good advice before diving in.
