623 paddle scraper, no dust control(farm\ag. land)

This sucks. Dust laws dont affect farmers so they can plow fields and drag stuff and the dust doesn't matter, and thats all good, but I got a job running a 623 paddlescraper for a company that does land leveling and nobody gives a f about dust control. Those paddles throw up so much dust. Im just getting frustrated and looking for some opinions on this matter. Im the only one out there making a huge dust cloud every load with paddles on low. there is a water truck out there but I can barely get anything from him because they don't think I need any water. I tell them I'm not asking for optimum, just some dust control but the dust doesn't matter for them, so I will have to load bone dry dirt every day. Any thoughts?

D17 question

I probably have no bis in this area but a quick question . I just spent a long day on the back of an old D 17 pulling an 8 foot mower . The owner said he's has a lead on a 10 foot mower (Bush Hog ) . This grass was heavy in a few spots and had to downshift to 1st in high side ... sorry I speak truck driver so if I used the wrong terms please forgive me .

This is a gas engine tractor and with it in low gears already is it possible a 10 foot wide is to big for this machine .

JD 570A Issues

Have had an old military surplus grader with everything worn out, used mostly for snow removal. They must have replaced the engine cause it runs great, Everything working fine then all of a sudden no drive like clutch slipping. Checked oil is ok, there does not appear to be a clutch linkage, clutch pedal cable goes to a valve body on the transmission any ideas where to start checking or is clutch out. Went from working fine to slipping instantly. Thanks

SkyTrak 6042 Hydraulic Problem

I am having a problem with a Legacy series SkyTrak 6042

Here is the problem while retracting the boom it begins to retract at normal speed for approximately 2 ft... then slows down significantly extending the boom the speed at which the boom extends is normal. Raising and lowering the boom is completely normal without a load, however with a load on the forks (Bundle of 2x4's) the boom will only raise about 2ft and stop even if you continue to pull the lever, if you let of the lever and pull again same result 2ft then stops... booming down no problem. Attachment tilt and Frame tilt functions are completely normal... I have attempted to swap the hose on the main valves to verify it was not the valve symptoms still the same, also swapped the counter balance valve on the extend cylinder symptoms still the same, swapped the main hydraulic pump, symptoms still the same..... Any advice..... Thank you

Brand new trailer with hot hubs

I bought a brand new 25 ton triple axle trailer and when I first picked it up running empty on the highway for about 45 minutes I noticed the hubs were hot. Didn't want to leave my hand on them. It was a 90 degree day. I called the dealer and they said run it. I did. about 2 weeks later I found 3 axle seals leaking one so bad that it soaked the brake pads and left oil on the mud flap. I took it back to the dealer and they replaced all seals on all 6 hubs and the brake pads on the rear axle. I am running it today with about 23000 lbs on it and I check the hubs with an infared thermometer and all hubs are about 140-150 degrees (except for the lift axle hubs they were 92 degrees) My question: is this normal? The dealer made sure no brake pads were dragging and said the drums showed no evidence of excess heat (bluing). What do you guys think?

TD-8 drive problems

I have just recently got a td-8 e series and am having trouble with it driving or pulling it self. When I shift from reverse to forward i have to wait on it to go in gear before letting off of the decel pedal or it will just sit there. Also when pushing a heavy load sometimes it will act like you took it out of gear....when it does this you can hit the decel pedal and when it idles down you can feel it go back in gear. I'm a new dozer operator but have watched other machines run and they respond immediatly when shifted. I think the clutches or converter is worn as well because if you push on a tree it will just sit there and not spin tracks. Need opinions !!! By the way all fluids are topped off .

Grove RT58 transmission problems

Hi

I'm thinking of buying a used RT58 neckbreaker to use on the farm. I'm building a new house, shop, ect and no local crane rentals near by. Guy near me has a rt for sale but the transmission seems to have some problems. it will move but not well, has charge pressure. And I believe it's overfilled with oil. I'm not sure if it has a Clark, Funk, or maybe an Allison. Most of the guys that worked on this stuff are retired so no one to ask. The machine ain't much he wants 5K for it. I have no problems putting a few buck in it but I don't want a money pit. Maybe someone here would be willing to answer some questions? I'm not a crane newbee I have 30 years in Local 18 OE and have a currant CCO

Thanks

CCO Study materials.

Anyone know know of any study materials for the CCO core, Lattice crawler, Fixed cab hydro, and swing cab hydro. I am an apprentice so $$ is a little tight. I took the sample Core on the website and did pretty good, but am worried about the specialty exams.

CASE 1840 Can not access starter motor

The starter motor on this CASE 1840 isn't turning over - it just clicks.

In order to gain access to the starter, the manual says to raise the arms, lock them, then slide the cab forward. The problem is, without the motor running, we can't raise the arms.

Does anyone know how to access the starter when the engine is dead?

Is there a way to lift the arms without starting the engine?

Thanks,

Chris.

Ram (Posiquip) chipper

Hello all,

New to the forum, looks like a good a good resource!

My question is if anyone knows of a possible replacement electronic feed control for a Ram 30/50DH chipper.

I realize the company is out of business, and found a post here from last year from member "moakley" stating he had worked for the company and might still have some parts.

I searched for any other post from him and found none, so I hoped someone had an idea of a replacement.

The unit works great if I bypass the control, but it would be nice to find something if possible.

Thanks for any replys,

Jerry

Rubber Track

What could make a new set of rubber tracks walk right off after less than 1hr?

Onsite refueling and maintenance?

Recently we manufactured an onsite Fuel and Lube truck. My question is what are the most common methods of refueling and maintenance in your experience? Is it subcontracted or is it the operators job to take the machine to the closest tank on the project etc... This is only for research purposes to gain more knowledge about the different methods on different markets around the globe.

Thanks in advance for your help.

450J speed sensor issues

Working on a 450J that will randomly track hard left. Kinda scary loading onto trailers as the problem is very intermittent. I have a service manual on order and two speed sensors in the shop but I don't want to install them until I test the old ones and maybe do some continuity tests on the harnesses. Trying to rap this project up quickly so if someone can chime in before the manual comes in I would appreciate it. The TCU is showing me F382 F373 F321 and F324. I know the two are for the two speed sensors but not sure what the 321 and 324 are for. I have not had a chance to check Lmtr and Rmtr while the problem is happening yet. Any suggestions before I put $600 into the machine if it is not going to resolve the problem?

Is it OK to post a job opening on this site?

I do not wish to break any of the forum rules, but did not see anything prohibiting the mentioning of available positions.

Trailering an Excavator w/ Harvester Head

I could use some help!

I bought a used Cat 320B with a harvester head. I need to move it a long distance (2k miles from BC to AK) and am wondering if it makes sense to gear up and DIY. I'll need a trailer to move it around here anyway:**

It may require a step deck trailer and so that is the focus of my question.

The dimensions as given by Cat are: 9.2" w, 30.9' L and 11.3 height. The auction company states the height is 12'6", the weight is given as 43,000.

It seems the weight requires a tridem trailer. The height may require a step deck or lowboy, I do not know and what is lower and I should know my safe US and Canada height clearances are (do not remember from my CDL-A with Tandems, testing, just that I should know the clearance of every overpass!)

I own a F9000, 290 hp cummins 10 sp dumptruck w/ tandems... and am thinking how I could use this equipment to pick up the 320b...maybe with a pup and a step deck or is there a pintle hitch step deck tridem?

Sure could use the help!

Engine Blow By

mercredi 30 juillet 2014

Ive been looking at some used Cat machines descriptions.

and in their condition notes they mention the 'blow by', some of the descriptions will say

Blow By - Yes - Normal

or

Blow By - No

If a machine has any kind of 'blow by' is it asking for trouble?

If some have NO 'blow by', which im assuming is normal... than how can you have 'blow by' and have it normal?

im lost....

PC30MR-2, No start

Turn the key and nothing. No power to the key switch. Need wiring diagram.

Cleaned battery connections, batt is at 12.7V Main block fuse at the battery is good. Checked all the fuses. There are 4 relays in a box R1,R2,R3,R4 I don't know what they do. Safety lock lever switch checks out. Can't find a diagram on line except for one that covers way more machines than I need.

Thanks if you have any info.

Crooks are stupid

I went to pick up my golf cart from the repair shop yesterday and the place was swarming with police cars..

Outside was an "elderly" gentleman screaming and yelling at the cops.. "that's MY CART.. right there.. LOOK it even has MY PHONE # WRITTEN UNDER THE DASH"..

I walked inside, payed for my repair and asked what happened..

The owner said.. The old timer was "a regular" and WELL KNOWN around the neighborhood.. somebody stole his cart and brought it to THE SHOP to get repaired..!!!

They KNEW the owner,, KNEW the cart had been stolen and took down the guys name and phone # when he dropped it off for repair!!!

DANG.. crooks are stupid..:Pointhead

BUT, I guess if they were "smart".. they'd have a job??

Article: "Stringless Curbs and Gutters: Contractor adopts 3D GPS for concrete curbed"

Stringless Curbs and Gutters

Contractor adopts 3D GPS for its concrete curber

By Jeff Winke

Summers-Taylor, Inc. holds license number 00000069 in its home state of Tennessee, which means it’s the 69th contractor of any kind to be licensed in the state.

Founded in 1932 as a general maintenance and construction company, Summers-Taylor is now the largest, heavy and highway construction contractor serving the tri-state region of Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina. Located in Elizabethton, Tenn., the company owns more than 400 pieces of construction equipment and trucks, five concrete plants, and four asphalt plants.

Travel an interstate or major highway in this region, it has likely been built or repaired at some point by Summers-Taylor. The family-owned company has grown from its modest start and now employs more than 375. The contractor has diversified, adding design and engineering capabilities to its core construction and paving services. Yet, road building remains at its heart.

Not surprisingly, the company is involved with the $18 million Tennessee DOT improvement and expansion of state Highway 75. Just north of Johnson City, the highway spanning between Washington County and Sullivan County is being widened from two to four lanes. The Tennessee Highway 75 project is a four-mile stretch requiring placement at various locations of concrete curbing and gutters, for drainage and catch basins.

“With its long, straight highway run this is the perfect project for us to try our newly acquired 3D GPS machine control on our Gomaco GT-3600 slipform concrete curb and gutter paver,” states Lee Thomson, concrete superintendent for Summers-Taylor. “We’re among the very first, contractors in America running a stringless GPS-based curbing machine—they’re more commonly found in use outside of the States.”

Thompson points out that he feels comfortable “pioneering” machine control technology on the curb machine because he’s followed the evolution of the technology over the past 10 years, learned how its benefiting Canadian contractors, and his company is successfully using GPS technology with its earthmoving and site grading side of the business.

The Summers-Taylor Gomaco concrete curb machine is equipped with a Topcon GPS+ receiver and an onboard graphical display. A pair of masts—each topped with a Topcon PZS-I laser sensor—are mounted on the machine to control grade elevation and steering. Because Summers-Taylor uses Topcon Millimeter GPS, which uses laser-enhanced GNSS technology, a pair of Topcon PZL-1 transmitters are positioned at control points on the site. Thompson places the transmitters 500 feet apart to track the position of each receiver on the curb machine and relay curb location and elevation data to the Gomaco curb and gutter machine. As the machine progresses, Thompson leap-frogs the transmitters to maintain the slip-form production flow.

The PZL-1 Millimeter GPS transmitter uses a fan beam signal that Topcon calls Lazer Zone technology. The PZL-1 is designed to emit a fanned signal with a height of 10 meters (approx. 33 feet).

Summers-Taylor relied on Construction Engineering Solutions, LLC, Leopold, Ind., to help create the 3D model that was converted via Topcon Office 3D software to the files the curb machine used.

The project requires 1,200 cubic yards or approximately 17,000 linear feet of Class A, 3,000 psi—DOT mix—concrete to form the 30-inch gutters with six-inch high curbs. Summers-Taylor has a six-member concrete crew, including the machine operator. The crew places expansion joints every 100 feet, muscles the heavy cast iron catch basin grids into place, smooths out any imperfections in the newly formed gutter and curb, brooms in the texture, and then moves the Topcon PZL-1 transmitter ahead as the Gomaco curb and gutter machine progresses. There are 69 catch basins to be installed along the project route.

“Since this was our first time using GPS technology on a curb machine, we were nervous at first and began the project by running stringlines in front of the machine,” Thompson says. “The T-DOT inspectors wanted to see the stringlines too, but when we saw the machine could run perfect without them, we stopped placing them. The finished grade is a straight line—no flutter or waves; it is very impressive. Once the T-DOT inspectors saw how good the results were, they pretty much pulled their lower jaws up off their chests and left us with one inspector.”

The Highway 75 project is a two-year project and Summers-Taylor is completing its work on time. Thompson reports that adding the millimeter GPS capability to the curbing machine is improving both accuracy and speed, and virtually eliminating rework.

“In terms of accuracy, we’re accustomed to achieving the already tight +/-0.1' finish grade specifications with our Topcon 3D-MC2 earthmoving equipment, so achieving even tighter DOT specs using our Millimeter GPS, with laser-enhanced GNSS technology on our concrete paving work, is more than possible,” says Thompson. “In fact, our curb machine operator comes from the dirt side so he’s comfortable with machine control technology and achieving quality results.”

Summers-Taylor is seeing faster production with the GPS machine control on its Gomaco GT-3600 curb and gutter paver.

“Clearly, we’re saving time and cost by not needing workers setting stringlines or needing to replace them if they’re knocked down,” Thompson states. “When you consider quicker speed, greater accuracy, and reduction of rework, we’re at least 20 to 25 percent more productive with the stringless GPS curb machine.”

In taking in the state Highway 75 project as a whole, Thompson concludes: “I’ll remember this project as our first stringless curb and gutter project. Implementing the Topcon system went exceptionally well and we had great support from our dealer, Roper Laser, in getting everything set up and running properly. My concrete crew certainly likes that at the end of the day they don’t need to collect stakes and string; instead, they retrieve the two transmitters, stash them in their cases, and head home.”

New Holland EC600 B thinking about buying

Hey Guys - New to the site but realize I have been missing out! Great forum! I am thinking about buying a 2006 New Holland EC 600 B excavator. I have a piece of land in an industrial park that it now makes sense to build on. It is covered in large glacial boulder remains. I have been doing test holes with the John Deere 160LC with a thumb and it can move 80% of the rock into a stockpile for hammering. For the production, I need a much larger machine for the remaining 20%. I could go buy a Cat 345 or John Deere 450 but figured for the price and the fact that this machine will be right sized or oversized for the job, it wont be working at capacity and therefore may be a good choice based on price and weight.

The EC 600 is available in my state at a reasonable price for the hours and age. 3,100 hours. Actually kinda low for the year and I am worried about seals and hoses that have sat too long un-used but that's not the big issue in my mind. My concern is, what is the reputation of the machine? How will it hold up for the next 2,000 hours of moderate abuse? How do I find parts now, we are in eastern Massachusetts. Good Deere, Cat and Komatsu support but not much else. Have never owned other brands besides Cat and Deere so kind of in the dark here. Looks like machine was well cared for and is in very clean condition otherwise. Sounds like this could actually be a Fiat machine? Kobelco?

Anyone have any insight on this size/brand of machine?

Thanks in advance!

JD450 Issues

Hi all,

Bought a well used JD450 a year ago and have gotten more than $5,000 worth of work out of it.

Now it's time to get some items repaired. When I initially purchased the dozer, the right steering clutch was a bear to engage when turning. Over time, it loosened up however it had a different feel to it than the left. While pushing dirt, I stopped, backed up and wanted to go forward again. The dozer would not go forward at all and it is still parked in the same position.

The linkages are well worn and have a lot of slop-- will re-bush, rework as many as possible Pulled the seat off to look and steering clutch function. In a static position, both sit at the same position when viewed from the top. The cylinder movement is 1" greater on the left than the right. The brake shaft also has more movement. There is some issue with the right brake.

Getting ready to pull the top on the transmission to see was is wrong.

For those of you who have experience with these older JD450's, I'm willing to accept any advice you may have to offer. I have other heavy equipment and do my own work and have the tools and equipment to do anything that is required.

Thanks in advance

Paul

Guidance on selling heavy equipment

We are in the process of cleaning out my father-in-law's barn after his passing. The barn includes farm equipment (tools and machinery) from 70 years of farming, as well as construction equipment from 40 years of corporate construction jobs (boxes and boxes of screws, building tools, etc), and heavy equipment used for excavating. We are at a loss as to where to begin to find fair pricing to know how much to ask, as well as where to sell the items that won't cost us a fortune in advertising or shipping fees. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

deere 200c question?

Noticed today that i was leaking hydraulic oil from right below the right hand joystick. Took the screws up and noticed that one of the plungers that gets depressed when you move the stick is slightly leaking oil. It looks like they have o rings at the base of them. Called my local dealer and they suggested replacing the whole block with all four plungers on it. Dirt cheap price of 850 dollars. Is there any way the i could replace just the o rings or get an aftermarket(read cheaper) assembly for it? Any ideas? thanks

D9G pony motor

I have a D9G pony motor we removed about 10 years ago. It has been in dr

Help me with 580sm series 2 electrical/hydraulic

The machine has me baffled. Extendahoe and outriggers will on occasion fail to operate simultaneously. All other functions of the machine work properly at the time of failure. I've crawled all over and mostly under the thing cleaning connections and checking wires. Would someone happen to know if the valves or silenoids are somehow shared by those two functions. That's probably a stupid question.

Had this issue last winter pretty bad. Usually 15-20 minutes later the thing would start working all by itself. Now its doing it again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Krupp cranes

Ok guys we have been in the crane game for a few years and have grown pretty steadily. We started with an old link belt htc35. Set my first trusses with that old girl. Also still have the grove tms200a. I love that old crane. It just does what you ask it to. Plain and simple. We just recently graduated my brother from a terex bt4792 to a terex t230. Anyway the point of this is we need a bigger crane. I'm very familiar with older groves up through the nineties. My dad doesn't want anything smaller then a 100ton. How are the older Krupp's kmk4080 or kmk4100. I know grove is exceptional with parts and support on their cranes. Do they take care of the older Krupp's as we'll. How solid are those Krupp's. Do they feel like they're chained to the ground like a grove or do they feel like they're getting ready to go over any minute like the terex.

2003 Yanmar Vio27-2

Hello everyone,

I have a 2003 Yanmar vio27-2 4400 hours that the left driver is slow and with no power only when goes back. When goes forward is fine. I did replace the hydraulic fluid and filter already but no luke.

Hope somebody can help.

Help me understand steering clutches

I need help understanding what is wrong with my D31E-20. It seems to have no fine steering, basically only full brake per each side or nothing, and then i have to beg it to do that. It has joystick steering control.

There is no power loss in the system at all. It will push and push till the tracks spin.

From my understanding of the system the steering clutches partially cut power to one side at a time therefore allowing for slight turns. Push the lever harder and then the brake grabs and turns sharp.

Since I vary rarely have any fine steering I assumed that the steering clutches were worn and since I have to beg it to make sharp turns I also figured that the brakes needed adjusting. When I read up on the system though I believe worn clutches would give other problems.

Here is my question, if the clutches were worn wouldn't it deliver basically no power, like in a car with a worn out clutch? If they are not worn, is it possible they are stuck engaged and that is the loss of my fine steering?

Thanks for any help

Komatsu PC120-6 power issue

I am new here so let me start by saying Hello.

I recently purchased my first excavator, a Komatsu PC120-6. It is a 1995 with 5000 hours. I am having issues with hydraulic power after about 30-45 minutes of use. Once the machine gets up to operating temperature it loses quite a bit of speed and power. Most noticeably lifting the boom. All other functions seem to slow/weaken a bit as well, however none as much as the lift. I am assuming this is a main pump issue. I gave it brand new SAE 10w oil as well as a new filter... this did not help. I have priced a rebuild.... $6k is the best I have found. To be clear, it is definitely a hydraulic issue. The motor is not bogging down at all, the hydraulics just seem to be bypassing. This is not a daily use machine, it is our yard machine used for loading our trucks. Before I drop $6k on a new pump I am wondering if there is anything else I should be checking?? Would a thicker hydraulic oil help? Could I have a relief valve issue? Any help or input would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

Bobcat E35 Long Arm (2014 model)

Hi there guys I will keep it brief.

In the market for a new digger,I have a 2012 ZX35 Hitachi (3.5ton),860hrs machine, looking for something with a bit more power without going up a class.

I have had a Takeuchi TB138fr as well, about same power as you would expect, same motor (27hp Yanmar).

Have just test driven for 2 to 3hrs a new Bobcat E35 side by side, getting of the Hitachi and on the Bobcat, wow what a difference 6 or 7hp makes (Bobcat is 33.5hp).

Does anyone know off many problems with the bobcat range of excavators as thing just blew my Hitachi away an all digging aspects?

steering problem

225 Komatsu all hydraulics seem to work fine. tracks move forward and reverse strong, but when I try and turn the tracks will not move. take the weight off of tracks and they will spin but not under weight, what is the most likely issue. JIM

1985 Case 450c final went, do I need pinion?

Lost final drive on one side on case 450c dozer, ordered final with pinion from a equipment place in texas, they only sent the final, no pinion, the pinion on the machine is not missing any teeth, just shows slight wear maybe a little of the hard facing wore off, how can I tell if it will hold up? We put on the final it works fine just wodering if I should find a new pinion and put it in as well, which is a way bigger job, but want the fix to last?

thanks for the advice

2003 Yanmar Vio27-2 Left Driver motor slow/weak

Hello all, I have a 2003 Yanmar vio27-2 that the left driver motor is slow and weak when goes back. when the machine goes forward the driver works fine. If I try to back up toward an hill the left driven won't turn and I can hear a pressure sound from the body valve. If I pull both handle look like the right driver helps to move the machine, but if I pull only the left one the machine won't move. I did replace the hydraulic fluid and the filter already, but no change. I also loose the track, but no difference.

Hope someone can give me some ideas.

Converting flatbed to dozer ramp bed

New to the forums and couldn't find this topic. What are your thoughts of converting a 22-24 foot flatbed into dovetail body to haul 9 ton dozer. Already have the tandem truck with poor dump bed and would only be using it to transport lone dozer to shows. I would leave a 16 foot flatbed and use the cut off portion to create a dovetail on back. Basically would be toy hauler with sole purpose.

1989 Ford F700--New to me

Hello, I have recently inherited a dump truck from my dad who passed away. I decided to bring it home (450 miles) and start a business with it. I am slowly replacing/fixing components to get it ready for vin inspection and subcontracting. On the drive home the speedometer/odometer stopped working, I want to know where the cable terminates (wheel hub or transmission). This is my first time working on a diesel and on such a large scale. Unfortunately, the internet does not give me huge amounts of information and locally I am finding that either services are overpriced or people just don't know.

I know I will have a ton of questions, and any information would be huge.

Radiator assembly for Case 1455b

I have a case 1455b that needs a new radiator assembly and cooler. Can anyone help me find one or tell me where to look?

Volvo G720B has gremlins

Greetings from sunny South Africa...

I hope someone can maybe help me with an issue we are having with our Volvo G720B - it has gremlins...

It goes through phases where it just won't start, but changing a fuel filter or disconnecting the batteries for about an hour sometimes helps - but I think it might be co-incidence.

Here's what it does....

It'll swing sometimes slowly sometimes at normal speed and just not fire.

Depending on the grader's mood various things are noticed when it won't start.

This time - there is no power going to the injectors and there is a fault code about general ECU failure

the last time it did this we disconnected the batteries for 2 days, cleaned every plug on the machine and changed the fuel filters - that worked

The last time - the diesel was just running through the fuel pipes not pulsing - changed the fuel filters, disconnected the batteries and it came right

But this time we are not having any luck on the usual tricks - any suggestions please!!!!:)

Input needed for excavating a pond

My friend has 100 acre field of prairie dirt. It is generally flat (not necessarily smooth). When wet, it is never bad enough that a 100 HP 4wd tractor (12k pounds) can't travel without having much trouble. It may leave ruts in areas, but no more than 1' deep at most. He is considering building a 12 acre pond with average depth of 6 feet (strictly a guess on my part about depth, but it will at least give me a guideline). The pond will need to be dug out and material dumped somewhere in the field. Still undecided on exact location, but figure travel to dump site 1/2 mile. So 12 acres, average 6' depth, and 1/2 mile to dump material.

1- What equipment combo would be best, and how much material could they move?

2- Any ideas on a land feature for the excavated material that may aesthetically be more appealing than a large pile of dirt?

Hydrualic pressure readings for Cat 307

lundi 28 juillet 2014

Hey guys, got a Cat 307 in pretty bad shape but i have faith i can bring her back. Currently the only thing working on her is the boom it can lift up the boom, and move the bucket. other than that, no power to move the tracks nor spin! So i have worked on replacing ALL filters, drained the system and cleaned up some valve bodies. still no go. Would like to check the pressure from the hydraulic pump but unfortunately i have no documentation what it should be. Can anyone shed some light? i got the gauges, i just need numbers! Thanks guys, any help is appreciated. if anyboy has a manual, preferable soft copy, that would be wicked

Ford H 48

I have (maybe to my detriment) taken on a Ford H 48 which has one of the two main pumps only building 500 psi. New Holland's parts page doesn't explode the pump so I can't tell if it has variable piston pumps or just what. I have searched HEF and only found a background info post, but has anyone had any experience on these machines or specifically this area of the machine? I have found manuals available, but don't want to fork over the cash unless I can forsee it being a viable repair job.

Kubota SVLs

I have been looking strongly at the Kubota SVLs and have a few questions.

First of all, according to my research they are pretty good machines--anyone feel strongly otherwise?

Secondly, have there been a lot of improvements over the last 3 or 4 years? Are the 2010, 2011, and 2012 models pretty nice or have they improved the machine a lot?

Lastly, I need some feedback on where to go with a SVL75 or consider the SVL90. Seems like the 75 is more popular. What tasks would I do with the 75 where I would be wishing I had a 90?

Thanks!

Champion 720 w/ clark power shift seems to be shifting hard

Hey there, thought I'd bounce this one of you guys and see if you have any ideas, haven't had much time to delve into the book yet, but my 1980 720 (with the 3 speed clark power shift trans) seems to be shifting into forward and reverse with a clunk the last 20 hours or so. I've had the machine for a few years now and have put a few hundred hours on it, and don't seem to remember it doing this before. When it goes into forward or reverse, it just seems like theres a clunk to it, like to much engine speed, but as far as I can tell everything is normal there, any ideas? I changed the fluid (atf) about 150 hours ago, and the filter, and replaced a hose on the filter housing to the torque converter. Once its in gear (forward or reverse) it seems to be normal, just from neutral into gear I notice it doing this. Any ideas? thanks in advance

any help on this serial number?

I just bought this caterpillar 311. Serial num 5pk00323. Anyone can help on the year this was made. I've been looking everywhere... I also ran it for the first time today and it came close to being over heated, one dash from being in the red. It was very hot in south Louisiana but seems a little odd. I have rented equipment before and no problems. Equipment was very clean, including around the radiator, also radiator was full with coolant. Belts, including water pump belt, looked fine. Also seemed like it wouldnt have any strength in the low idling (1-3). Thanks for any help!!!!

Dozer Pad Torque - 5/8"-18(NF)

Getting ready to install rebuilt pads on my old Allis HD11. I picked up new pad bolts and nuts at the local CAT dealer. 5/8"-18. Trying to figure a torque value. From the searching that I've done, I've found a couple of places stating 110-130ftlbs + 120º for 5/8" fine thread. One mentioned with anti-sieze. One didn't mention any.

Thoughts?

988H Hydraulic Problem that seems solved

Loader is S/N BXY003XX

We had a tilt cylinder rebuilt by local dealer and it is seeping after only a few days use, this is not the solved problem, well dealer rep came out to take a look. While looking at the machine he noted the hydraulics seemed too slow and suggested sending a guy out. Operator had mentioned that it did seem a little weak and something about banging in the system at times while returning bucket to level. Boss decided to have dealer send a guy out as the rep made it sound like there was a major failure coming any time. I did not have any time to check it out before hand as it is our main production machine and it it isn't running production drops and we know that is a NO NO!

Guy come out and agrees it seems slow and there are several records of the code for the lift sensor being erratic, but nothing about the tilt where the problem seemed to be happening. He went through all the calibration steps related to hydraulics and it did cause the speed of the hoist to improve but operator still said the tilt would at times bang when it stopped and it would stop in the wrong place. Dealer mechanic said we should replace the lift sensor and re-calibrate again after that was installed before going further.

So the next day I installed the new lift sensor and ran the calibrations for the hydraulic. Operator now says it's like a new machine, faster hydraulics and bucket kicks out at the right point every time and when it does it's very smooth and just a little click at the control levers when the magnet lets go.

Almost seemed counter intuitive to be replacing a lift sensor when most noticeable problem seemed to be in the tilt circuit. Almost like changing a head light because the brake lights don't work!

Ex120-3 hydraulics

My ex120-3 started acting up when I try to track or run machine as soon as I combine and functions or extend any cylinders completely the machine Boggs and stalls checked complete fuel system looks good cleaned lines both banjo filters and still no good.

624J MDU acting up

Our 624J is having issues with the gauges shutting off and the hour meter resets to zero (which I didn't think was possible). It's an intermittent problem and throws codes FLC 299621.2 Machine configuration invalid and TCU 522365.13 Limp home mode. You can shut it off, restart it and sometimes the problem will go away. When it does, the hour meter works. Then it will throw the codes again and the Hr meter will zero again. I'm thinking a power interruption to the FLC but can't catch the machine when it happens. I've inspected the cab harness and cleaned all TCU/MDU/FLC connections.

What could cause the hour meter to clear? The loader has over 6000hrs on it but the MDU shows 2.2hrs at the moment. Last week it got up to 35hrs before it happened again. :Banghead

Hanomag MF 44c need Help From Equipment Wizard Please Help.......

Michigan L190 loader

We got a L190 that we had in the shop doing some service on, changed some hyd. lines and replaced the left rear wheel caliphers, bleed the brakes out and went to take it for a test run and got about 2 applications in to a pile of dirt and the brakes locked up and we have lost hydraulics to the implements, steering works fine, we are completely stumped anybody have experience with these machines that could help.

Kubota KX-41

Hi all,

First post !!!

I have had this annoying problem with my boom lift for some time now, it is an intermittent fault and struggles to lift sometimes, more so under load, and while this is happening does not hold position in the center position and drifts down slowly.......

I sometimes raise engine speed when this happens, and play around attempting to lift then lower boom then lift again quickly, this usually corrects the problem 100% until shortly after happens again........most likely happens more after max position of boom lift, sort of explaining interruption of relief valve.

It is only on the lift side of the boom and holding position in the central position, once it corrects, works perfectly!

I do not think it could be ram seals as is intermittent, I have removed the relief valve on the boom lift side of the spool, took it apart, looked pretty good inside, but cleaned put back on machine but problem still exists........

I know I could try swapping over relief valve from another service but was wondering if it could possibly be anything else....I don't think it could be the other relief valve on the lowering side of the boom.

Any guide into getting this problem solved would be just be music to my ears........

As a side note, is it necessary to drain the hydraulic oil to work on the relief valves or is there another way......when I removed it before a good amount of oil came out....

Many thanks:confused:

1975 Case 580B Back Hoe Strenth

I have been looking in the forums and have yet to determine if the boom leak down is a result of a weak pump or valve body unit. I also think that my boom lift is weaker than it should be. The front loader is very strong and lifts heavy items with ease. I have also validated that the controllers are returning to home position at rest.

I've repacked all cylinders on the back hoe also. Machine had set up for several years and I resurrected it with an engine overhaul. It runs great and the shuttle works pretty good also. This problem happened after working it for about 3 hrs. I was actually impressed how I didn't have the leak down issue at first from reading other posts but now here I am with same.

Any and all help is much appreciated.

1975 Drott 85RM2

Hello, I am new to this site and have a question regarding my Drott carry deck crane. The seal that goes between the hydraulic motor and winch on my boom is shot and I was wondering if any of you folks know where to find a replacement. I am aware that Manitowic might have purchased Drott, but due to the age of my machine, nobody there seemed to know what was going on. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Sean

1953 Clark Yardlift

I have a 1953 Clark Yardlift 60 that I use at my shop in Portsmouth, RI. Does anyone know where to get the seal for the lift cylinder? I had a local shop, Moy Works in Newport, replace it twice but it has failed both times. They had to have the seal fabricated at a different shop as it is made out of leather. The replacement, however, was thinner and different looking than the original. Has anyone run into this problem?

Also, does anyone have any insight on the transmission/clutch setup to these machines? I am starting to lose my clutch and its a damn shame because the engine starts right up every time and she is a big girl. I looked into replacing her and a used machine with high hours starts at about 14k.. yikes. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

1088 Case Longtrack

We purchased a 1088 used & heve had to replace the hydraulic fluid & filters (3). Since then, we have not been able to get the bucket to operate. We are mystified! My husband is a mechanic, so no dummy to this stuff, & his friend is an operator with experience in repairs, but e erything they've tried has still not freed her bucket. Can anyone tell us what we're missing?:Banghead

Case 95xt help needed

My Case 95XT has a internal leak somewhere. The tilt part of the bucket settles badly, worse when there is something heavy on the bucket. I noticed the other day that when the accessory hydraulics (foot pedal) are being used (my auger) that the hydraulic flow just isn't there either. Now if I put the parking brake on, I get more flow to the accessory hydraulics. Leads me to believe some oring or something is leaking but I have no idea where to start looking.

Kobelco SK 170

Engine won't start without starting aid cold or hot, you can be running machine and shut down and it will not start without stating fluid, original problem started when #4 injector went bad, replaced all 4 injectors, engine started right up but had severe smoke, found turbo had been damaged, removed cylinder head when injector tip fell into cylinder had also caused valve damage, had cylinder head rebuilt and also replaced all 4 piston and rings, machine has 6200 hrs, once motor has started runs good, any suggestions would be great help

2nd time shorter: Question 4 ALL experienced excavator professionals

Hello Everyone

I have an excavator question:

How long would you say it takes to learn: all the ins & outs; tricks; secrets of handling & maneuvering for digging & demo-ing homes?

I'm going to be taking a course which is 3 months long. Will I learn everything in 3 months of pure school theory and practical training to demo a house on my own without supervision? or is it a career that it takes 20 years to become a professional finally?

Thanks

Basic CTL Questions

Guys-I am new to the forum here and for the most part, new to heavy equipment. I am in the market for a compact track loader. I was hoping you guys could give me some guidance.

First of all, I don't do this for a living and never will. This machine will be used around my home, farm, and rental properties for various tasks. I know right now I will be using it for a retaining wall project where it will be shuttling dirt and loading some dirt into a dump truck. I will also be putting out some rip rap at a lakehouse, moving pallets of blocks, doing some grading and excavating around my home, etc.

My first question is radial vs. vertical lift pattern. I have done some research and it seems like a real toss up. I think overall the radial would probably suit the majority of my needs better but I know I will be loading some dirt into a dump truck so want to make sure it is able to do that. I know the vertical lift machines excel at this a little better while the radials are preferred for ground level work. But, can you do either with either machine? Is there one that would be more versatile for general miscellaneous use?

My next question is whether I go with a new one or a used one. I have the means to buy a new one but feel silly doing that because I'm never going to put thousands of hours on it. You could argue that if I buy new it would maintain it's value because of low hours and light use but you could also argue to buy a machine with 2K or 3K hours on it that I will probably still never wear out. Any thoughts on new vs. used, how they hold their value, etc. are appreciated.

If I do go with a used machine, where is the best place to find them? I don't see much of anything on craigslist and I'm kind of afraid of buying one at an auction when I don't know a tremendous amount about them. I have been on machinerytrader.com which appears to have some reasonable machines for decent prices.

Lastly, any brands you definitely do or don't want? I know there is passion with a lot of folks for a certain brand, but just wanted to see if there are any brands out there that most eveyone would agree are lemons or are superior to the rest.

Thanks for your help!

Basic Mini Excavator Questions

I am in the market for a mini excavator. I honestly know very little about them and would appreciate some help.

First of all, I will say that I do not do construction for a living and never will. This machine will be used at my home, farm, and rental properties for various tasks. The first need is to excavate a hillside at my home for a retaining wall project. I will then be using it to dig a pool. I will probably use it to get a few stumps up, etc. but overall it will be general miscellaneous use

I have been looking at the compact excavators and would appreciate some guidance. Aside from reach and dig depth, what are the differences I should be looking for when deciding between models? I don't have a specific use like I said above so I am looking for versatility. Within the compact class, do they all dig about equally as well within their reach/depth? Is there a certain horsepower I need? Does horsepower correlate to bucket size I can use? I just need some starting points to narrow down my search.

My next question is new vs. used. I have the means to buy new, but feel silly doing so since I will not be using it very often so chances are I will never wear the machine out. You could argue that I will maintain good value since my machine would have low hours but you could also argue to get a much cheaper machine that even if it has significant hours on it, I will never wear it out.

If I do go with a used machine, how many hours should I tolerate? What is the typical expected lifespan in hours of one of these machines? (I know that will vary) Where is the best place to find used machines? I don't see much on craigslist and the local dealers have a very limited selection. I have found some decent looking machines on machinerytrader.com

Lastly, are there brands I definitely should look for or definitely stay away from? I know everyone will have their favorites and their passions, but are there any agreed upon generalizations about certain brands?

Thanks in advance for your help!

What Recourse do Governments Have for Shoddy Hwy Projects

dimanche 27 juillet 2014

I realize this question may be jurisdiction specific but I'm curious how poor workmanship is handled in your areas. Following is the background to my question.

A very large and well known road construction company has done two major projects within 60 miles of me within the last 15 years. In both cases within two years it became VERY obvious that the workmanship was garbage. One example is, the highway will have a 6-12 "dish" the width of the hwy and anywhere from 4-12 ft wide. This "dish" can happen up to six times a mile and then sometimes none for a few miles. This gets to be a safety issue as well as extremely hard on vehicles and passengers. Our highways department has expended much effort to fix these problems to no avail. Do state or provincial governments have any options for?

1. requiring the original contractor to repair at his cost?

2. insurance against rogue contractors?

3. permanently banning a corporation from government projects without lots of legal wrangling?

Thinking About Going On MY Own!!!

I have been pondering the idea of starting my own excavating business. I have been around equipment all of my life, but I started my career in 2005 with Department of Transportation. I started out flagging (which absolutely SUCKS),then got moved up to tandem dump truck running pay loader and other odd and end stuff, then started running excavator full time replacing culverts, putting in driveways, ditching and such. I worked for them for 4 yrs (raises stopped so I took off). I also have been working for a private contractor on the side for the past 7 yrs doing custom hauling ( with quads, quints, and road tractors with dump trailers), running excavators and dozers, doing demos, some grading, and just a little bit of everything (I have really learned a lot working with him). Currently I am working for a municipality running mini-ex, skid steer, backhoe, dozer, gradall and excavator. I have done a little bit of everything with them, catch basin rehab, retention pod clean outs, pipe installation projects (1 that sticks out 1500ft of 24in 2-14ft deep), replacing culverts under roads, new sewer pipe installation, stream and gabion basket projects. I think that this may some it up for you guys.

Now I im going to be moving soon to WV where the oil and gas field work is jumping. I am going to work for a contactor there running a truck hauling to frack wells. When we get settled in some, I want to try to get my business (with in 2yrs) going. I know it isn't going to be great for the first few years. I know I am going to do some networking for sure. What I want to do is get my foot in the door with doing road maint for oilfield roads. Also clearing property, grade work, demo work, snow removal in winter or basically whatever or wherever the work is. Also my plan (we know how these go) is not buying anything new. I would like to buy a road tractor 9200 or 9900 International day cab somewhere around a 2000 model price range 20-30000$, midrange excavator 35-45000lbs machine around 30000$, and a tri-axle detach lowboy 15000$, and like a 670 JD motor grader around 20-25000$, and a steel dump trailer (so I can do any thing with it) for around 10,000$. The reasoning behind excavator and a grader is when building a road I can rough it in with the excavator and finish it out with the grader, and also doing snow removal in winter with grader. I know there will be jobs where I will need a dozer, which can be rented. I think that with a set up like this I could be as versital as possible. Im thinking my rates would be something like 100-115 for truck and dump trailer, around 140-150 for excavator, and around 130 for grader I know you also have to bid out jobs. This is just what I thinking seriously about doing, who know what will happen. Please tell me how far I have fallen off my ROCKER!!! :usa

Breaker suggestions

I may be in the market for a used hyd. breaker. Which breaker would you guys recommend for a 200-300 size excavator? Cost is second, parts availability is my main concern. Thank you for any and all suggestions !

"Rebuilding" hydraulic breakers

First, let me say I have very little experience with hyd. breakers. That being said, I recently purchased a RockRam hammer from a used equipment dealer I know very well. I knew it didn't work, but I only paid 1000$ for it, figuring if I could have it rebuilt and still be ahead. I should mention it fits a 300 size machine, maybe a little smaller. So I take this thing to a very reputable dealer I frequent and they always seem to know their sheet, so you can imagine my surprise when the guy calls and tells me they find parts for this thing. So I say to him "let me see what I can do", and here I am. I figured if anyone would know, one of you all would. Where can I get parts for a RockRam breaker? The numbers are; Model E-9100m, 200-1, Ser.#669289. If anybody can help me out I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

Buying dozer tuesday, need help fast!!! Fiat allis

Okay, I run a small two-three man logging operation in Ohio. Untill now I have been skidding my timber out with a 795 farmtrac 4x4 Tractor and a Case 450 track loader. The Track loader is no more as I sold it this weekend at a little profit, I have been needing an actual 6 way blade dozer for some time now and have finally saved the funds to buy one in cash.

I ran into what seems to be a good deal on a 1980 Fiat Allis FD7. Now i know this is alot bigger of a dozer than my old little loader but would you call it to big to skid with ? It also has the forestry package and winch but he said the winch is not working at the time being. So my questions would be this.

#1 How reliable are fiat allis dozers ? FD7's to be precise?

#2 What kind of money could i run into trying to fix the winch? ( not knowing whats wrong with it exactly)

#3 Are parts still readily available for it?

#4 Is it to big for my needs in your opinion?

Basically any info on Fiat Allis dozers and fd7's particularly would be of great help ! Going tuesday to pick it up.

Thanks in advance.

Please help

Komatsu pc40-7 had a slow swing issue and lack of power in blade. I changed the hydraulic pump and it fixed the problem, but there was track deviation and lack of power in one track. Ran machine for two hours and the final drive locked up I tore it apart and found the planetary gears were tore up. I installed a new final drive/travel motor. I still have severe deviation and track has no power. I checked all other function cycle times and they are to spec except the arm. It is 2 seconds slow. The arm and the travel in question work of the same control valve and the same pump section. Cable linkage is fine, stroke of spool is normal. I swapped main relief valves with a known good one and no change. Please help me

Case 580C power shuttle problem

I have a case 580C backhoe and when I put it in forward it works fine. When I place it in neutral it still goes forward. When I place it in reverse, it feels like it is locking the machine up. It will not move; it feels like it locks up the rear.

I checked the linkage and solenoid cutout switch. I think it is in the powershuttle....

Anyone ever have this problem? Any thoughts? Your help is appreciated.

Thanks.

D7F sn 94N8313 Transmission Problem

After tractor warms up it doesn't want to engage in reverse. Replaced pressure control valve, seems to have helped some but still erratic. Able to get it to engage with lots of shifter movement back and forth from 3rd range to 1st. Direction pressure on PCV goes to zero when this happens, once engaged goes to about 310psi hot. Once engaged pulls good. Transmission has been in and out 3 times, clutches like new.

CAT 246 Skid Steer drive motor seal kit

Hi,

I am looking for a drive motor seal kit for a CAT 246. Checked with CAT it is almost 600.00 that is to much for just a seal kit.

Anyone here that might own a shop and have a connection for parts? This is a Rexroth unit.

Deere 4045T normal oil pressure and crankcase pressure?

I just purchased a wood chipper with a Deere 4045T engine. Gut I bought from says it was ran out of oil and was seized. O poor a new battery in it and it fired right up. No smoke at all and has 40 psi of oil pressure at 800 rpm. I notice a little pursue out odd exhaust and some smoke. What is normal for oil pressure and crankcase pressure on these?

1986 John Deere 410B 4219T Engine replacement

I have a 1986 JD 410B that blew a connecting rod through the engine block. The engine is a 4219T short block. I am located in Maine, USA and am looking for some advice to replace said engine. I am having some difficulty locating a 4219T engine. Per this problem, would a 4239T fit, or even a non-turbo for that matter. Would a 4219T or 4239T engine from a compressor/chipper/generator/farm tractor/etc fit as needed? And does anyone have experience with that kind of change? I would assume that type of swap may require some changes between the engine and reverser. I have had mostly zero luck going through local JD folks for rebuilt at reasonable price, so I'm interested in any thoughts per this. Also any words of wisdom per the overall impact of change would be helpful, such as would I have to also compensate to the existing hydraulic pump? Contact info for folks in Maine, MA, NH would be helpful. I would probably hire someone to actually change it (if I can find someone!), but would like to do the footwork to locate an engine and have knowledge about it. I read that a 4239T was a direct replacement for the 4219T, but can anyone confirm that as well? Thank you.

Dealership - New Website Opinions

Hi All,

I have recently recreated the website for our dealership. Some feedback from people that will be actually using it would be really good.

This ad has a youtube video of the truck(this is something i will do for all items but have not had time)

The photos are slower to load than other websites because i have them in a higher quality so it can go fullscreen on a HD 1080p monitor.

hitachi ex 300 lc3 final drive

samedi 26 juillet 2014

Looking at buying a 1998 ex 300 lc and noticed when going forward or backward the final drive (or drives) make a whining sound. Its definitely not a metal to metal sound but trying to figure out how much noise is to much. I called 2 mechanics and both said they should not be noisy. I dont feel any drag and they seem to be very strong... just a louder sound than im used to. Are the hydostats on larger machines usually louder ? Thanks for any help.

Dead instrument panels s205 bobcat battery is fine

My 2007 S205 is dead.

Parked it from running a week ago and now it doesn't work.

Both the right 'turn key panel' and left 'operation panel' are both completely dead. The hourmeter isn't even on. I took off the front lights and removed the plugs from the rear of both instrument panels one at a time and tested them for voltage and there is no voltage to any of the wires, one read extremely low .67 volts - the red wire to the left instrument panel cluster. On the turn key side, when you turn the key absolutely nothing happens.

The weird thing is the dome light works, the power plug (cigarette lighter receptacle) works.

The battery is fully charged and works fine. There is power to the starter and alternator. I removed the battery terminal connections and cleaned them. I checked the 100 amp fuse above the battery and its good. I checked all the fuses below the operator seat all good. I switched around the relays and they all seem good.

Somehow there is a wire or something disconnected somewhere between the fuse box and the left hand instrument panel.

Any ideas?

Really frustrating and have no idea how I will move it onto my trailer to get it to the bobcat dealer.

I looked at all the connections to the control panel and turn key and they are all good. All the wiring everywhere in the cab looks good. I took apart everything in the cab under the 'carpeting' and all the wiring looks good. I looked at all the wiring I could find in the engine compartment and lifted the cab and looked at wiring and everything looks good. I took out the battery and cleaned all the connections. I took apart many other connections and ground wires and cleaned them. I cleaned the connections on the 100 amp fuse. Still no change! I tried jump starting the bobcat from 2 different batteries and still nothing. Any ideas as to what is up?

High speed on final drive working low speed is intermittent

Hi everyone. I've got so much information from this group that i just want to start by saying thank you. So my issue is that i have a large stump grinder Rayco T275 (35K lbs). It has a cat undercarriage and the final drives are Tenzieke??? Or Komatsu sorry I don't have that yet. The system is electronic over hydraulic.

When i'm tracking in low speed my left track seems to bind and shutter but as soon as i shift into high everything clears up.

I'm not sure if my swash plate is sticking or maybe it's electronic.

Does anyone have a good starting point? I checked that charge pressure of the pump and it seems to be good st idle (400) but drops to 200 when operating.

Any Advice buying a used Case 580K 4x4?

I gave up on the JD, so now I'm looking at a 1990 Case 580K 4x4 Extenda-hoe.

I spent several hours looking at it and running it, and it seems to work fine, and I think I want to purchase it.

It does have some issues, but they don't seem to keep it from working. So my question, is there anything in particular that I should be looking for on this specific backhoe?

The areas which I saw that need some attention are:

1. Loose pins where the hoe boom attaches to the swivel casting, and the casting to the frame. Probably 1/8"-1/4" in of movement on the various pins all through those joints. Is this too much?

2. Front axle king pins are loose, about 1/4" of movement when I grab the front wheel, with it lifted in the air, and tilt it in and out.

3. Front axle tie rod ball joints where the connect to the hydraulic piston. They look easy to replace, but are very lose.

4. Front driveshaft wobbles a little. The flange which attached to the Diff pinion is loose.

Any advice on anything at all? The machine seems to work really well. I got to drive, dig, load, test 4x4, diff lock pretty much everything. Fluids appears as I would expect.

Thanks,

Garret

Bobcat T 180 seat bar light blinks

Hey Guys, I have a problem with my t 180 when you go to hit enter on the deluxe pad the normal beep goes off then followed by two more beeps then the seat bar light blinks two times then a pause then two more and so on. It did throw a 11-05 code which means a seat bar sensor short to battery. I tested the v on the three blue wires going to the sensor and I get 8 v on one 11.7 on one and 0 on the other one. I think the 11.7 should only be about 5 v or so. I am thinking this is my culprit wire that is getting shorted out but why would it have that many volts? I did take the sensor out after fighting those dam springs in the seat bar for many hours... but it looked fine to me no wobbles or slop , so I put it back and now I have checked what wiring I can get to and it seems ok but who knows you really can't see very much of the wiring anyways. So now what? can I check power at a different area maybe the controller or so I am not really sure where the 3 blue wires even go. It looks like the harness goes up in the head liner towards the front left side? It has been very rainy here lately too and extremely humid maybe this would have done something as well. I did check the normal relays and fuses under the seat area between your legs. Any one ever have this issue? any help would be appreciated . thanks in advance .

680 k case air problems

I have a 680k backhoe. can someone give me some trouble shootting tips on the air system. Last winter there was not enough air to release the parking brake. I thought somethin got frozen so wait things to warm in the spring. I did wait for warm weather and things started working again but air pressure build-up took a little longer. Today there is not enough air to release the parking brake like last winter. I needed to move the backhoe so I connected annther airline to the system to just relese the parking brake. When I did that the air being pumped in went throgh the backhoes compressor and came out the air filter that supplies air to that air pump.

Does the air compressor have a checkvalve built in it?

If it duesnt, where is the checkvalve?

If anyone has any ideas, I will appreciate a response to this thread.

Question- using new cutter

Hi

getting ready to use the first hydraulic attachment on my ASV SR80 - little confused though. the manual says

I can pressurize the low flow intermittently with the roller hand control - the next page talks about continuous flow - it talks about pressurizing the upper low flow coupler press the top of the switch and to pressurize the lower low flow coupler press the bottom of the switch. So I guess my question is, do I want either or both the upper or lower pressurized?

Sany brand excavators and equipment. Quality? New georgia headquarters

*****update....found that someone already posted this question. Please delete*****

Hello.

I would like to start a discussion on Sany brand excavators and equipment.

Georgia has the headquarters.

I am a big fan of caterpillar excavators which are made in conjunction with Mitsubishi.

Will I like Sany? If not, why?

I have some ideas as to why I would not like them.....but I would like to hear your thoughts first.

Who makes them?

What components are they made from?

Did they buy out another brand?

Engine source?

Pump source?

Metal hardness?

Thanks

cancer death rate

Why good health is important? Well, we need to be healthy in order for us not to get sick. Many people do not realize the importance of good health, and even if they do, they may still disregard it. However, medical science, in which we all have invested as a country and as taxpayers, is seeing the fruit of its labors as the cancer death rate continues to decline in the United States. Others, however, dispute the results of a brand new report.

Help with Cat 252B skidsteer

vendredi 25 juillet 2014

Hello all,

I'm having some trouble with a 2006 Cat 252B skid steer. The problem is it will only start and run. The park brake and arm bar light will just flash after the machine is started and will not do anything else. This is all I know.....trying to purchase a service manual right now is a last resort, it is not the arm bar switch, it is not the seat switch, the cooling fan is working, and i did find some bare (not broken) wires in the harness where it rubbed through on the frame under the cab. I will eventually buy a service manual for it but at $625 on ebay or $834 from CAT its a tough pill to swallow right now.

This problem started out as a intermittent problem that seemed to be related to wet weather. When it first started we brought it to our shop to try to diagnose what was wrong with it. Never could find a problem and the entire time it was stored at the shop (2 months) it never had a problem. While it was at the the shop it was stored inside. When it left the shop it was stored outside and the problems began again. Now the machine is down completely and I cannot seem to find whats wrong with. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Backhoe vs Mini-excavator + Bobcat

Guys, I have a dilemma I'm in the market for a piece of equipment in order to diversify my business in a mountainous area in the Caribbean island of Trinidad. I own a hardware in this area and I would like to get into general contracting and house building however, I have a limited income and I cannot afford numerous pieces of equipment to make this step.

I own a Case 1840 99' that is in fair condition but i was wondering if a backhoe would be a better step in the direction that i want to go vs say a mini excavator. I've seen alot of videos (on youtube by jcb and wacker nueson) recently touting the benefits of both but I would like to get the advice from experienced users and not just advertisements.

So conclusively, will my old skid steer and a mini excavator do the same job as a full sized backhoe or am I just misinformed in this regard?

Thanks

Caterpillar 226 to 226b engine swap

Clearing with Chain on a small scale.

Lots of information on clearing land with the biggest available dozers and a chain off a battleship.... But does it work and on a smaller scale?

In particular I am looking at reclaiming an old gravel pit. Lots of sumack trees and multi flora rose. Could a much lighter chain and some weights improve clearing with a 450j Deere ?

I should have just asked Scrub Puller. Lol

Differences between a CAT D6 and a D7

Hello folks.

This Sunday I'm hoping to look at a Caterpillar D 7C that is for sale. It has an electric start and the Serial No. is 17A5871 which supposedly is a 1956 machine made in Peoria. The transmission identification number I have been told is 4H8440.

I have noticed there are a lot of low cost deals to be had on these two models - older D6's and D7's. Which of the two is the heaviest? It's not apparent to me when I search the internet. Which is more powerful?

What little I know about this particular 7C is that it runs fine except one of the tracks won't engage when trying to make a turn (not sure what side doesn't turn). The owner says he thinks it's a linkage problem. If it turns out that it needs a new steering clutch, is that a repair that can be done by someone with little knowledge and experience in the maintenance and repair of bulldozers? The assumption is that I would seek out help when doing the repairs. Is this a difficult job?

The other know fact is that this particular dozer comes with a straight blade without tilting capabilities. One of the things I am hoping to do with whatever dozer I end up buying, is to be able to push small to medium sized softwood stumps out of the ground. Will I be able to do that to some degree with a non-tilting blade on a D7C? Should I consider D6's as well?

Any response would be appreciated!

Another new comer

I am new to the forum. I had a little experience running a Kuboda 35hp and just bought my first backhoe, a 1995 JCB 215 Series 2. I am from the Concord area of New Hampshire.

Question 4 ALL experienced excavator professionals regarding learning curve

Hello Everyone

I'll try and be concise and clear in my question.

How long would you say it takes to learn: all the ins & outs; tricks; CORRECT controls; secrets of handling & maneuvering; digging & demo and all the little tricks you learn with experience?

To clear up that questions I'll give a fast example: Tile Setting. In school we learn in one month how to install tile and spread cement on the floor. But when you are in the field there are millions of variables that you run into everyday and only experience can get you out of it. I know tile setters who've been doing it for 20 years who know all the tricks from lifetime of experience. And I know guys doing tiles for 5 years who just learned from on site experience and school but they can't solve problems and don't know how to do certain installs. They just know the general rules of thumb that everyone learns, 80% proficient you can say. Like I said there are tons of variables to learn like type of substrate and what type of cement to use for it (there are 20 different types of cement for different applications). Weather conditions, drying times,

amount of water, temperature of water, cleanliness of water, temp of substrate, size of cracks in substrate, moisture, how much a cement can build up before it cracks, modified or non modified for porous tiles, etc. Just tons and tons of variables in tiles, and if you don't learn them all you won't be able to solve problems that come your way so it takes many years to truly pick everything up and be a professional. Not to guess results and give it a whirl, but to really know the outcome of your actions.

I just want to know in excavating and demolition, are there tons of variables as well? Or it is pretty much common sense. I'm not saying it's easy to learn the controls,. What I'm saying after I take the 3 months of schooling and learn all the controls, are there still tons of little tricks and secrets that you learn along the way that they don't teach in school that only the old timers know because they've seen most strange circumstances and events unfold in front of them? Or is it pretty much basic, learn to control the machine and you're good to go.

My worry is if I commit to this occupation is it going to take me 10 years to learn all the tricks (I am super smart and learn super fast) but learning and running into new problems that you haven't encountered are 2 different things. Are the problems at the job site with excavators easy to deal with, it's common sense? Or does it require knowledge that you have to pick up from someone who has gone through it?

Thanks for your input in advance. This is coming from a person who is going to make a permanent career decision and wants to hear it from the source what they think.

Which RT crane do i buy? SANY or ZOOMLION

I am looking to buy a new RT crane and need to choose between either a SANY RT35(40 USton) or Zoomlion RT35 (40 USton).

I am very familiar with KATO, TADANO and GROVE 25/30t RT's but don't know how these will compare. Pricing is very good at almost 20% less.

Is there anyone with experience on either one or both of these cranes?

Would like some input on which crane will be the better one to work with as a operator and also to work as a mechanic.

Any feedback will be welcomed.:)

Cost of fuel. Diesel, gasoline and otherwise...

What's the cost of fuel where you guys are at? I had a technician come here to Trinidad and said that the prices here are ridiculous. We buy diesel at US$0.90c per US gallon and gasoline at US$2.20c . Too much or too little?:beatsme

Owner Operator Business Advice

At the first of the year I finally decided to start my own business. I went out and purchased a 2006 LS170. At the time it had 640 hours on it and I found out about it through a friend who had purchased equipment from the guy before and vouched for his honesty and care of equipment. I got the machine with 66" low profile bucket for $15000.I also ended up buying his 18' 12000# trailer and he threw in steel OTT and a tooth bar for $5000. I bought a different truck as well 2001 F-350 7.3 crew cab dually 4x4 6spd with 121,000 for $15000. I think I made out pretty well on the prices for everything.

I also purchased a root grapple and a set of pallet forks. I currently am doing grading, lot clearing, etc. I am using cans and smaller dumps for my haul-aways. I debated getting a gooseneck dump trailer that I could also transport my machine with but I am wondering if that is just a waste of time and if I should just hold out for a dump truck in the future. But also unless it is a minimal amount of hauling is doing it at all profitable when I have to take time away from running the machine to do it? Maybe this is where employees would come into play?

I'm looking for some direction and advice from others who have started out similarly. Right now I have only done residential and just landed a snow removal contract this winter working with some other companies clearing a huge industrial complex. Not sure if I can compete doing commercial at this point or if it would even be worth it.

The other main issue is that I still work full time. It will have to be this way until business picks up enough to quit and do this full time. This really complicates things though

Thanks for all the help

Best Demolition excavator.

I'm not posting this to start a war whatsoever. I'm in the market for a larger excavator for strictly demolition use. I've used a volvo ec 360 b and a cat 320 cl for lots of demolition use. Both worked well but the cat was very loose in the bucket pins at only 3000 hours.

What's everyone's take on what excavator is best suited for the severe nature of heavy demolition projects? And is there any brands to stay away from with this type of work?

Thanks in advance

Aftermarket 310c john Deere hydraulic cylinder rebuild kits source

Hello,

Does anyone know of a good source for aftermarket hydraulic cylinder rebuild kits?

The front bucket dump single center cylinder on my john Deere 310c backhoe is leaking

Also, the swing cylinders are leaking too......

Instead of ordering from John Deere......how do I find a source on cylinder packing kits?

How do I match up the kit? Do I call join Deere and get the parts number and price and then translate that part number over to an aftermarket source like from Heavyquip or someone?

Or do I need to tear down my cylinder and measure things and then order from some random supplier?

Any tips?

I appreciate it!

Thanks
