01' 420d water pump leaking

mardi 30 septembre 2014

Hey all,

I just flushed my cooling system on the weekend, fired it up everything was looking good....

Than I went to lower the boom after work today (3days after I was working on it) and I noticed some coolant leaking, so I pulled off the side panel, it appears to be coming from what looks like a port/ hole on the outside of the water pump. It's near the edge of the pump near the gasket.... The gasket is only 5 months old and it has worked great all summer. Is there a known relief hole or something on the sides of these water pumps?

Thanks

-Rick

Hitachi 165 non start

I got my self into a problem that I am struggling with coustemer asked me to look a the digger because the wipper had quit working ever keen I thought no problem looked at all the fuses all ok ( just metered them didn't pull any out) tested the motor with probe it worked went looking at the relays there was 4 tin covered ones and one black one witch turned out to be a diode pack with the pin format if a 5 pin relay with her running I pulled all the releys and made sure all where working fitted the diode pack back as well

Switched the machine off fitted every thing back on place only to find out I now that I have no ignition lights and when turning the key to the start it lights up the dash all the relays are back in place and all the fuses are still good I found that if I put an earth to one of the releys the main isolater clicks and every thing works as shoud but when switched of the ignition lights stay on

Has any one any advise

Snow Blower Impeller Size

I am looking to find some information on different impeller sizes on front mount snow blowers for compact tractors, I have a 50 hp tractor. 3 point front linkage, I was looking into buying a 51" center driven blower with a 28" impeller, I have been told time and time again that this impeller will take in too much snow for this tractor, so what is the proper impeller size to go with. I my other choices are 26" or 23.5", I am worried that decreasing the impeller size by 2" will not make a big enough difference, do I need to go down to 23/5"? help please.

Backhoe loading - no dovetail??

I am looking at buying a 3 axle single wheel deckover gooseneck trailer to haul my 580b. I would like to get one with a dovetail, but the ones without a dovetail are a few thousand cheaper in most cases.

How many of you have loaded or regularly load a backhoe on a deck over without a dovetail? Is it a big deal?

Seems to me the ramps would be exceedingly steep or exceedingly heavy..

Interesting job location

Got a machine back together at the Ford proving ground yesterday. They stick a piece of tape over your camera lens on your phone at the gate. There are cameras everywhere. Signs all around warning you not to spend any time around the vehicles. There were about 6 SUV somethings parked by the building all with covers over the front and rear, cut outs for the lights and a black and white camo type paint job on the doors and roof. Another 6 or 8 something down the line totally covered.

Used the restroom in the shop. There were two Toyota something in there with enough wires on it to look like the space shuttle. Three big electronic boxes on the seat with wires all plugged in, 3 or 4 lapptops and about 6 guys all around it. The building was full of lifts. there had to be at least 50 above floor post style lifts in there with about 10 having vehicles on them.

There were also about 50 pallets with 55 gallon barrels on them. Some were labeled "test gas" and the others "test diesel". Looks like they don`t even get the bugs worked out ith the same fuel we have to use.

It would sure be interesting to see what else they have hidden away from the roaming eyes of visitors.

Very Iinexpensive and effective fuel strainer

lundi 29 septembre 2014

Several years back, when my Komatsu dozer started having crud in the fuel tank issues someone on this forum mentioned checking the stainer in the lower banjo fitting of the lift / primer pump. I did and it was jam packed with rust, dirt and various crud. It occurred to me to look on the parts diagram for the machine to see if Komatsu had a fuel strainer as an inline item.

Sure enough they show one as an add on at 80 bucks and that made me think there's got to be a simple cheap fuel strainer at the auto parts store. After various blind canyons, I found an all plastic strainer for an old Mercedes Benz diesel auto for $2.98. I bought 2. Just last week I was pushing muck out of a nearly dried up stock tank near Waco Texas, and I noticed the engine hesitating at full throttle. I checked that little strainer and it was full of what looked like coffee grounds. It did its job.

Swapped in another cheap Mercedes strainer, checked the banjo strainer(a little shred of rubber in there from my fuel line but otherwise clean) and changed out the main screw on canister filter up on the engine and we're back in business.

$2.98 beats 80 bucks in my book any day. I cut the fuel line close to the tank and stuck the strainer on there with enough extra hose under the battery box so its easy to see and swap out when it has done its job. I've left that shield off under the battery box so I can easily adjust my brakes if they need it. By the way the Fram website has some great cross references for where used and such. If you search Oreilly look for a fuel strainer for an older Mercedes diesel that's how I found this one.

Note this is not a "filter" it is a true strainer. Only gets the big trash. The paper inline filters they sell get wet and collapse and trash your lift pump etc. The screw on canister filter does the heavy lifting getting the fine particulates out of the fuel stream before it gets to the injector pump.

Service Truck

I am looking to buy a F450 Service truck. I am going to use it as my daily driver for work. I will be working on all of my farm equipment with it. I will move all of my tools from my shop box into the truck so that I have the tools where I am at. I am going to put a compressor and a welder generator on it. I need a setup for fuel and DEF in the truck. Would y'all go with a taller curb side front box for torches and extra storage? It will be a regular cab truck. I want an 11' body but not sure if ill get an 84" cab to axle truck or a 108" cab to axle so that I could put welder and air compressor between the cab and the body. I am trying to figure out how I'm going to organize it, pictures, advice, etc.

Help regarding 10 wheeler truck

Hi,

I am in the process of buying a 2nd hand flat bed cargo truck (for lumber).

I am choosing between a 12 wheeler (8x4) ISUZU GIGAMAX CYJ51W4 (year 2004) vs a converted ISUZU GIGAMAX 10 wheeler truck to triple axle (14 wheels: 12x2 drive wheel)

Which of the two will provide greater carrying capacity and maneuverability? I am also looking at the lifespan of the tires given their very different configurations.

The trucks will basically be loaded at around 15 tons.

By the way, the engines of the two are the same ISUZU 6WF1. It is just the chassis and tire configuration that are different.

Thank you and regards,

Justin

fifth wheel plate or ball any preferences

We have bought the new dodge 3500 dually. I came prepped for a fifth wheel which we plan on buying a gooseneck float to move our 5.5 ton excavator and 8 ton dozer. The kit the dealer showed us is a ball system which I am not familiar with. I have always seen the plate type fifth wheel similar to the big rigs. Anyone have this system or have any comments as to availability of floats with that system or their use. Thanks

Case 4496 tractor electrical steering fault

Hi all,

I am looking for someone who knows the case 4496 inside out. Primarily the electronic steering system. I bough one of these machines nice and cheap so now I'm fixing it up.

The problem I have is the electric steering system is not working. When I first looked at it I tested everything as best as I could and found I had a failed rear steering sensor. So I bought the last one in the country that I know of (so the dealer says) fitted it and aligned the steering. Wooo ! it all works, then ten minutes of driving and it all went to ****! and stopped working. Before I could align the rear wheels with the manual switch even though the rear sensor was not working. So after a mental fuse blow (I went off!) I started retesting at the controller. I found that the power supply to the controller was fine but no power is being delivered to the sensors. I had also lost power to the LED wheel indicator.

So I have found out that the controller has a safety system the stop it if there is a fault but I have a couple of questions.

- can the controller be reset with out sending away ?

- Is there a difference in parts form the front steering sensor to the rear, if so what problems could it cause ?

- And any other suggestions would be really appreciated.

Regards Will

Problems?

I am interested in opening up a shop for repairing equipment and possibly designing by own machinery. I know that the whole idea of designing my own rigs is a good ways in the future but I'm more interested in making equipment more user-friendly and if there are any modifications that owners or operators would be willing to pay for. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for modifications I could make and then sell to different companies for use on their machines. Thank you

D5M Transmission Output Speed Sensor

We're getting an active code on this dozer of 113-0673-02. I have the service manual for the machine and Cat has also pulled the codes previously so I know this is for the transmission output speed sensor. The dozer operates normally except that it won't always stay in 3rd gear. Once in 3rd it will sometimes drop back to 2nd. Can anyone tell me what I'm likely in for? I have heard that the transmission has to come out to change this sensor. I've also heard this is a common problem on this machine. I'll admit that we haven't read everything in the manual regarding this code yet. Just looking for some experience with this situation. Hopefully got our intermittent park brake issues solved with a new park brake solenoid so this is the last active code right now. Thanks, Billy

Drive sprocket "basket" on RC 60 - is it really necessary?

I can't help but notice how much debris gets caught in the basket under the drive sprocket. I would imagine a huge amount of sprocket roller wear is caused by the rollers because they are constantly being dragged through the debris when in muddy conditions. Why is the basket even there? I see different models don't have it, so why does the ASV Posi Track RC 60 have it? Has anybody taken it off?

Cat 430D not running

I just replaced the fuel injection pump on a 2004 cat 430D with the 3054C engine. the engine starts and stays running if I keep the key in the start position but as soon as I let go of the key to the run position the engine shuts of. is there anything wrong here. Now I do not have the whole engine put back together yet I just want to make sure the fuel injection pump is installed right before I put the rest of the engine back together. could that be why it wont stay running because the whole engine isn't back together yet. all I have off is the alternator all the belts and fan. I also have to finish tightening the front cover bolts too. please help.

Case sr250 hydraulic maintenance

I recently purchased a 2011 sr 250 and am in the process of changing fluids and filters. The manual shows 15L in the hydraulic resovoir and 45L in the system. Do I buy 15 or 45 litres? Guessing 15?

Problem with Powershift transmission priming on FL175. Need help

My loader is a 1996 fiat hitachi FL175 new holland. I had a hose blow out that went to the safety shutoff before the shift lever for transmission. I had new hose made and added 5 gallons of fluid to hydraulic tank. Once started the shifter did not work and still does not. I jacked up cab and cracked the new line to let air out but air keeps coming out mixed with fluid at pressure. The pump has changed noise so I shut the engine off. Not sure where to crack lines or what to do.

So is there a place to bleed this system or a way to do it properly?

Need help locating adapters/teeth for JD 690C bucket

My dad and I just purchased a 690C John Deere excavator, and we are in need of some adapters and teeth for the bucket. We believe that the bucket is the original bucket, which according to our research would indicate an Esco bucket. There is a square socket that an adapter pins into, and the tooth pins to the adapter. We have one adapter and no teeth. The teeth most likely are not an issue to find, but so far we haven't been able to find the adapters anywhere. The best we can determine, the Esco (and John Deere) part number for the adapter is EX119-35. Does anyone have a possible source for some of those adapters? The only place I've been able to find them online ships directly from China (which worries me a bit) and they want almost $300 apiece for them.

Otherwise, the machine seems to be in very good condition. It's right up my dad's alley - no computers. He's a 47-year Deere mechanic (on the agricultural side), but the engine is one he is very familiar with. They used it in their farm machinery.

Cat 289c Joystick Handle Part #

dimanche 28 septembre 2014

Hello Folks,

The previous owner of the Cat 289c looks like got some type of fluid on the joysticks which made the plastic mushy and sticky (possibly diesel or paint thinner), it's now impossible to come out of the machine without having black hands. Not to mention the stuff takes quite awhile to take off.

My Machine has No Highflow or 8 pin E/Aux Control, so it just needs the basic joysticks. (The Joysticks only not the full assembly) I found the full assembly which costs around 800$ per side, however I just need the part you grip on.

Can someone give me the part numbers for both of the sides?

Thanks

John Deere 855 RHS neutral problem

Hi

I have a few ideas but a bit lost as to where to start as the machine is down /out of oil and i'm doing other repairs on it..

So i can't start it up to do any checks if need be at this moment..

Problem is when i got it the RHS Brake hub and discs were busted and there was no brake on this side...only the left brake was working ,nearly got killed pretty close to taking it off teh truck when it arrive...The previous owner obviously knew about the problem but didn't warn me at all...Not nice when your unloading a 22 tonne machine and it skids on one track not straight off a truck. The extreme oil leaks didnt help. The truck driver wasn't happy one bit .that will teach me to not inspect before i buy again...We were careful to line it up on the ramps and all but...i thought i was gone to be honest....I rang the guy just to have a chat to see what was wrong with it ,he wouldnt answer and obviously wont return my messages...obviously he knew why i was ringing.

I ran the machine up the other day when i was able to start it ,when it was full of oil etc , i noticed the LHS transmission returns to neutral when the speed control lever is in neutral but the RHS doesnt it keeps creeping forward which explains why the RHS brake was broken and the clutch teeth were stripped..i Guess when the speed control lever is in neutral the brake should engage on the left and right sides, only though in this case it engages i assume and the RHS is still travelling causing the RHS brake to destroy itself.

I am no expert and basically feeling myself around the machine to fix it ,i have a manual but havn't found it helpful or obviously pointing me into the right direction yet...

if anyone has any ideas i would welcome them...Thanks in advance..

2003 JCB 214 Backhoe will not move

Hello, I have a 2003 JCB214 with the shuttle shift transmission. Today I pulled into the barn and went to back up but when I put it into reverse it jumped back a bit and locked all wheels. Putting it in forward did the same thing, jumped back and locked up. The wheels are free in neutral, I could push the machine by hand. I was able to easily pull it back into the barn with the riding mower.

Seems electrical but the wheels locking is odd. Could I have both the forward and reverse solenoids engaging at the same time? Tommorrow i will look into it further but was hoping someone has seen this before and has some suggestions.

753 main belt troubles

So, I have a 2001 753G with 471 hours. It has been getting more noisy when turning or starting movement. Pulled the main belt cover and it is a bit greasy, so are the pulleys. It is the original belt but seams to be in good shape. My first thought was the tensioner was out, but it seems to be adjusted ok and no tensioner bearing noise at idle.

Before I go to the trouble of replacing the main belt has anyone tried pulling and cleaning the main belt and pulleys to get rid of the whiney sound?

Looks to me that the fan pulley bearing has a slight leak and has dripped on the rear pulley, I checked the fluid level in the fan pulley housing and it was down just a smidge, nothing that worries me. I hate to replace the belt if it is just dirty and they are not cheap. closest dealer is about 70 miles away.

Thanks for any help!

Decision made-SV300 I4 purchased

After trying to decide which way to go with an i4 or 4 final, I opted for i4. I would have preferred the 4 final, but the cost increase really made the decision for me. There are quite a few around me, and after talking to those that have a i4 that I know, no one has had issues with them except one. That problem was linked to an overfueling problem which prematurely plugged the filter. So we will make a go with the i4, I usually would never buy a machine late in the model year but this will be an exception I guess (it is essentially a year old all ready).

As for the SV300 itself, I have been on and off renting a tier 3 used one for the last couple months. It has the large 14" tires and is really a nice loader. It is outstanding in loading trucks, with the large capacity 84" bucket its fast getting to dump height which is excellent, good reach (although not as good as my out going 465), very stable. It is very agile for a big machine. The only other machine demoed was the Deere 328E, and for us the SV300 was the better machine. The EH in the Deere had a lag that drove me insane, ran it for 10-12 hours and never could get used to it. Deere had great breakout but zero strength when pulling material back with the lip of the bucket. I guess those excellent breakout numbers come at a price when running the cylinders the other way.

The SV300 is coming with a 3year 3000 hour warranty so hopefully if the i4 has some issues it wont be out of pocket for as long as I will own it.

New Holland LS180 issues

Hello,

I bought a used New Holland LS180 a few weeks ago with 1540 hours. I started using it last week and ran into a couple issues, the bucket rams had to be rebuilt and a hydraulic line busted on site adding delay to my project. After I fixed all these issues on site another problem arose. The machine does not have any power, it feels like it's missing a cylinder or two and it also exhales blue smoke a lot. It's a turbo machine and it was running well till the end of the day. I cleaned out the air filter making sure it was not clogged but I have not touched the fuel filter yet. I rather not go on spending spree before consulting someone that might of had the same issues or knows more about these kind of problems. The bucket also tilts down and can't maintain position however the arm stays up. Any helpful information is welcomed.

Thanks

John Deere 350C injection pump

Have a crawler here that we removed the injection pump from and the timing mark on the pump wouldn't line up with the divit in the flywheel. I believe this is a rossa-master with the two umbrella seals on the shaft which stayed attached to the gear. This machine was running and filling the crankcase with fuel and would only run with return loosened. Would this machine run 180* out. Could the flywheel be mounted incorrectly? The pump is getting rebuilt and should have today. Any info would be very helpful. Thank You in advance

Under "what should I be taking care of now" topic, I've been thinking coolant flush. This probably should have been done when I purchased the grader five years ago, but so much to learn.

I could not find much info on HEF concerning this, so I thought it must be simple. Then I thought again, maybe for the simple minded it is. So exploring around other forums I found this great little thread at thedieselstop.com :

http://ift.tt/1Br9R1G

As I suspected and most of you mechanics probably know, it involves a little more than draining out the old and adding some new.

Also a good discussion on types of coolants, additives and why at a second post on the same forum different thread:

Hope this contribution helps others that have that feeling they are missing something important on the maintenance list.

Bakken oil patch work north of the U.S. Border??

samedi 27 septembre 2014

Hi guys my company is looking to expand into the Southwestern and Southeastern corners of Manitoba and Saskatchewan we currently have three excavators in our fleet one Hitachi ZX160LC and two Kobelco SK210LC's. We have a brush mulcher, hoe pack, wrist bucket, hydraulic thumb, and a digging bucket for the Hitachi. And one thumb on one of the Kobelco's, wrist buckets buckets for both, digging buckets, and rippers. We are currently looking at adding another hoe or a dozer if we can secure some work out there. We are C.O.R. certified in Manitoba and are willing to get further required certifications if we can secure some work in the oil patch.

Are there any contractors that sub out some of their work? Or should we be contacting the oil companies themselves?

2800a link-belt help

I have a few questions to post looking for help thank you..

Question 1. Me and my brother just bought a Linkbelt 2800a excavator one 7600 hours on it The engine is a four cylinder Detroit supercharged question is this a good machine and reliable ?. The engine runs strong and the hydraulics seem to be strong The only thing I was able to do with it is dig a little bit and it will lift the machine all the way off the ground.

Now the problem with it.. when you track the machine forward or backwards with full throttle in about 20 to 30 feet the machine will bog down you have to get off the track petals to let it build RPMs and then it will move again. So this is where I need help what could it be??? Talk to the guy bought it from he said he had the final drive rebuilt about two years ago about 1200 hrs on the final drive... Thanks for the help will wait for replies... :Banghead

CBD excavators

Hi, I have been operating excavators within a minesite environment for a few years now.. Most of my experience is surface based I hardly put the bucket in the ground but when I do I always feel safe, when I have to stick the bucket in the ground, dig permits are signed off by 3 - 4 supervisors/superintendents...dig permits given to me...electrician will wand it, hand dig mandatory around services etc

Now I have saved up enough money to buy a small 1.5 t excavator to work in and around the city.... I would like to buy one, leave the mining and return home to work more reasonable hours. I have a few questions regarding underground services, I did work for a few weeks around the CBD and outer suburbs as a subcontractor getting work through someone and what i came across was that alot of the people I went to do work for had minimal paperwork or just didn't know what was in the ground and infact didn't care they just wanted me to "dig there and be quick about it". Is it common practice that construction sites or concretors wanting footings or electricians wanting a trench to just think you'll come along and dig for them no questions asked? What risks do I put myself in, if I hit an electrical cable with the mini digger....financial and safety wise? I have been getting cold feet about buying one, the type of work i will be doing will be for different people most days and I would like to know that i am safe and will go home the way i went to work each day.

Some questions on greasing?

First, I cannot stand getting filthy while greasing so I just purchased the new 1884 20v Li Lincoln PowerLuber which I would definitely recommend to anyone who needs to grease but would rather not look like they rolled in it afterwards.

Second, I own a grease fitting rejuvenator but for the life of me cannot locate the thing. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good one in the event I decide mine has fallen into the "space-time rift"?

Lastly, what is the preferred method of rejuvenating a grease fitting, I have read where some use a solvent along with the rejuvenator and some where not? If using solvent this would require pumping a great deal of grease to clear the solvent which to me would seem costly.

I am attempting to remedy the abuse and lack of proper maintenance on the 2007 Case 650K Series 3 Dozer I have been assigned. I loathe lazy operators who either have no clue how much these machines cost or simply do not care enough to take care of them. I'm working for a small outfit that does not have a full-time mechanic or lube truck/driver so we Operator's are left to our own devices to maintain and do simple repairs.

The last mechanic who attempted to repair the dozer's A/C bypassed the low-pressure switch which for all intents and purposes has rendered the A/C useless.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!!

Kawasaki KSS50Z loader parts

I live in Ireland and need parts for my Kawasaki KSS50Z (chassis number KLD50Z-1212, serial: 50Z71212) loader, build in the 80s sometime, and we don't seem to have Kawasaki dealers or parts suppliers in the whole of Europe! Therefor I'm badly in need of a parts catalog and/or maintenance manual for this machine, if I had that I would have some hope of getting parts on the net.

Maybe someone on here sells Kawasaki loader parts? If so please feel free to PM me!

Any help would be greatly appreciated:-)

Ford 5500 injector pump question

vendredi 26 septembre 2014

Hello All,

I took the fuel tank and the filter assembly off to clean and paint them, and replace the fuel line. When I removed these parts, I immediately plugged/capped the metal fuel line going to the injector pump to keep clean and hopefully keep the fuel from evaporating. It has been apart for 4 or 5 months.

I reinstalled everything and have fuel through the filter and up to the metal line going to the inj pump. I hesitate to try and start the engine in case there is air in the pump.

My parts manual says I have a Simms pump, but the pump on the engine looks way different. Based on some searching I believe my pump is a Cav/Lucas??? I saw a pic of the same pump on BrokenTractor and they list it as a Cav/Lucas.. I am quite sure I have the Cav...

Long story short, I don't know where the bleeder is on the pump. I should have taken a pic, but we are getting hammered with rain.

Any help would be appreciated.

New Upcoming Heavy Equipment Operator

Hello All,

I will be retiring from the Army in a few months and attending a heavy equipment operator school in Wisconsin named Associated Training Services (ATS). I was wondering if anyone has been to this school or knows anything about it other than what

I've been able to research online and through continuous emails to and from the schools admissions office. Thanks in advance for the assistance

New Upcoming Heavy Equipment Operator

Help getting into the heavy equipment field...

Hi, I am new here and actually came in with a very specific purpose: I am looking for guidance about how to get into this field.

I am a college student, and I am looking to expand my skill set-- with the way that today's economy is, I want to make sure that when I come out of school that I have a marketable skill set: if I can't get a job as a pencil pusher, I want to be able to say 'you know what, not only can I do community planning/zoning, but I can run that backhoe and drive that dump truck too..' Not to mention the possibility of getting a part time job to help cover my tuition! (At damn near $20k a year for state school, I am going to be paying Uncle Sam back for a long time....)

Anyway, my biggest hurdle is actually getting into this field. I don't have the option to do an apprenticeship with a union, since I am a full time student-- and most job openings want years of experience! Not to mention just sitting the hoisting license exam here requires a letter from a company saying that you know how to operate the machinery-- kind of ironic: you need experience to get the license, but to get the experience you need a license!

Not to mention to get your CDL around here, you need to have a truck to road test in. And I have a hunch not too many companies just lend out their $100k trucks.....

So does anybody have any ideas for me as to how to get my foot in? Or better yet, anybody in the Rhode Island area willing to take on a greenhorn for weekend work/odd jobs? I know that's like asking for the keys to the castle!

---- I have experience driving box trucks, I've run forklifts, and have a fairly good head on my shoulders; and since I know nothing, I am willing to work for next to nothing (just enough to make it legal..)

If anybody has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate the guidance.

Thank you for your help,

-B

580B How to get get the crown gear shaft out

While getting the brakes working on this new to us 580B we noticed no carrier bearing preload (some slop) while the brake housings are off so we removed the top cover under the seat to get access to the crown and bull gear compartment and took the bearings out of both sides.

We wanted to check both side shafts for side gear shim cracks and change the leaking diff lock seal on the right. We only got out the right side drive pinion hollow shaft (found the shim in pieces) and we can't figure out how to get the left side out. It looks like the shaft in the center of the crown carrier should slide out but I'm not sure how to do it. Any advice?

Here are some stolen pictures from another board member showing the area in question. Thanks Kevin. Thankfully all our gears are good.

Thanks all

troubles with 3306 cat

Hello everyone first post here my name is larry good to be here so thanks for having me . then right into the question i have this huge problem for myself i guess. What i have is a 1994 ford l9000 with a 3306 cat engine i done a complete in frame on it last week now im having troubles getting it to start i can spray either in it and it will start and run as long as there is either going to it. the truck has set for a year but it was running fine until it started blowing oil and knocking so new pistons rings sleeves onlything we didnt change was cam bearing and nothing that would have caused us to remove the front of the engine. The injector pump was never removed i did install new injectors today but havent been able to see if it would start yet but i was hoping you all could give me somethings i might should check to make sure i havent done somthing incorrect when i had it running with the old injectores / either i could see air coming out around the injector holes also im guessing i didnt have them tight enough. The story with the old injectors was i had them looked at by a injector shop and he said they were no good pressure was down wasnt able to rebuiold the pencil injectors so i purchased new also silinoid is coming on and im getting fuel to all injectors but one not even getting it from the barrell i beleive its cyl,#3 but i would have thought it would still run on it own Please help with any info you might have thanks

Sad Volvo EC210 issues, and more issues

Howdy!

Been lurking around for a while, finally figured out the security caption thing and joined up!

Working on a 05 Volvo EC210 with the D6D electronic engine, no power, can stall it before it goes over relief, continuous black smoke even under slight load, found the obvious stuff, pressure hose at turbo ripped open, so no boost. Turbo has a fair amount of radial play but does not contact housing. They have been running it for a while like this :Banghead so the muffler is sooted up like crazy, good 1/4 of heavy soot in the stack, the muffler is cracked all over and needs to be replaced anyway. Air filter is now plugged with soot but was apparently replaced a week ago. Anyway i'm waiting on parts now, but can't understand why the engine is getting full fuel without any boost, any specs for testing the boost sensor?? There are no codes :bash The original engine ran great until they cooked it, who knew you had to clean the rad out when it's plugged solid.... So they replaced the engine with a "good" used and it's ran like a turd ever since. Once I get the new pressure hose i'm going to run it without the muffler and see how much boost i'm getting, figuring around 25psi? First time working on one of these volvo engines and they seem to have they're own ideas..

Thanks for any help!

Bobcat T190 Hydraulic failure

I have a bobcat t190 with pedal controls and 2500 hrs on it. In the course of an hour it went from lifting and dumping fine to barely being able to do either. The machine itself moves fine. I took to Bobcat for a diagnosis and they said that it had a bad pump which put out 1800psi compared to the spec'd 2500. They didn't do a flow rate. They also said that the control valve solenoid wasn't working. I replaced the solenoid, but nothing changed. I don't think it's the pump because it seems that 1800 psi should allow it to function although not with full strength. I've now removed the hydraulic control valve and am about to go through it. Am I wrong about this? Also, I had no leaks, no collapsed hoses and no weird noises.

Genie GS2632 - Doesn't move or go up - Powers on and beeps when try to move.

So here's what happened. We used the machine inside our warehouse and has worked fine, we were building another building next to our existing and needed the lift so we moved it outside to the new building for them to use during construction and moved it outside with the Forklift (picked up from side, tilted at about 20 degree angle, and drive it out onto the concrete pad. It hasn't worked since.

The machine powers on but when you try to raise it or steer it, the machine just beeps. The platform controls and ground controls provide the same result. I had batteries inspected and Interstate Batteries guy said they were good and not the problem.

Serial Number: GS3203-51235

We did go through service manual and tested the control box and it seems to be putting out correct volts. We were able to jump across 2 poles at control box to get lift to raise/lower, so we know hydraulics are good.

I assumed it was some "Tilt Sensor" or something dumb that got triggered during the move of the lift between buildings. But Genie said there's no "reset" or anything like that.

Any leads/help guys?

Thanks!

P T O questions.

I am trying to hook up a Chelsa PTO off of a 1984 International on to a 2003 Kenworth T-300. I called a local truck place that sells pto's and installs them but they couldn't give me any information. I have a 1997 GMC that I purchased a new PTO and installed it (on right side) If I remember right it had a single gear that turned only when the pto was engaged. The one I am trying to install on the KW, will mount on the left side of the trans and I notice that the gear that mates to the gear in trans. turns all the time and when you engage the pto lever is has a idle gear that engages with the out put shaft. I think the purpose of this is to reverse the direction of the output shaft. Am I right? Also are all pto gears cut to the same angle ? In other words will the pto off the Int be the same angle as the trans in the KW. The trans in the KW is a Eaton Fuller 6 speed and I don't know what trans the Int. had.

Deere 310C boom pivot repair

In for a Dime, might as well in for a Dollar. The injection pump I was having a problem with is being rebuilt...

I'm considering replacing the pins & bushings of the Boom Pivot. That is; the bushings on the swing frame.

Can this be a backyard repair? If the hoe is laid out (to keep it from falling over), can the pins be driven out ? I would block the boom and use a jack to take the pressure off the pins.

Then, using the hydraulics, move the boom away from the swing frame a few inches. Weld three beads inside the bushings to shrink the bushing before driving them out.

Either cool the new bushings with dry ice or use a bolt & nut to pull them into the frame. (don't have a nifty hollow center hydraulic puller) Or Both.

Use the hydraulics to pull the boom back into position for the new pins.

All assuming the frame bore isn't egg shaped...

Bobcat 743 attachment problems

hey guys new to this forum and need some help. Just purchased an older bobcat 743 that works perfect until today. I have a small farm and found myself in need of an auger to drill some post holes. Went out and bought a used auger with a couple of bits. I had the seller shower me how it worked and made sure he was drilling in a good Rocky area to make sure it worked under pressure. It worked great. Today I attached it to my bobcat and found it didn't work. Since I bought it Ive always wondered about that third pedal not working. Felt very loose. I also checked to see if the pedal arm was actually hooked up, and it is. Not sure what can be going on and how to even begin looking as I know very little about hydraulic systems. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thks in advance

Credit/Debit card fraud possibly related to the Home Depot breach - Please read

My wife was reviewing our company bank statement last night and noticed two charges to the Volvo Shippensburg PA facility, one for $900 and one for $400. She asked me if I had bought Volvo parts online from PA last week (Thursday and Friday), which my response was no, we don't have a Volvo machine.

This incident could be related to the Home Depot credit card breach that's been in the news. I use my card a fair amount at HD for small things.

Got on the phone with the CC company, our bank's phone lines were down , and they told us our bank had flagged my card yesterday as being compromised. Canceled those two cards last night and getting new ones.

If you have used your CC or debit card at the Home Depot this year, I would have your cards canceled and get new ones.

We should be able to contest the charges and get our money back. I'll keep ya'll posted.

KOBELCO SK300LC Swivel Joint

Hi All, I have a bad hydrolic leak somewhere around my swivel joint. I had my guy clean up the area of years worth of grease, dirt and grime. I just started it up to see where the leak comes from but the fluid just seems to fill up the area around the boot and spill over all around. Does anyone have any experience with swivel joints? Are there common leak problem areas I can zone in on?

Thanks for your help.

Work Related Illness , 10 months Retired

mardi 23 septembre 2014

Had a my yearly check up . Doc did his thing . Told me to lose weight , Exercise . All the normal stuff . Until he saw something ..

Looked at the top of my head and said , Being fair skinned that the working outside has had an effect . Some mild form of skin cancer .

He acted like it was not big deal then looked at my arm and said keep an eye on that scratch . " I don't like the looks of that ". It's still a watch and see deal .

So things at work are still following me sorta . Just a heads up , Maybe using suncreen ain't for sissy's after all . Also he expressed concern about my two fingers that have been numb ever since a travel shaft was turned while on my shoulder while putting a 518 link belt together . Doctor 10 years ago more or less told me that I just better get used to it .

Just some food for thought .

772D Fenders?

LOOOONG TIME TROLL, FIRST TIME POST!!!

Finally took the plunge and signed up, LOVE this forum!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had photos of their factory or custom made fender setup for their grader. I run a 772D but I'll take photos from anyone from anywhere, stationary or steerable. I want to put a set on mine but the board won't go for the ungodly price that JD wants for them since "its been run like this just fine" well, i'm tired of rocks hitting windows. Need to do something but Google is of no help in showing me how anything has been mounted.

I run all 4 seasons here in SE Nebraska from drought to flood to 10' drifts of snow. I use a 12' plow with a 2' extension bolted on and a 14' V plow on the front in winter. No wings (i wish) and everything is on gravel so I use a rear drag setup as well. Any and all photos would be great!!! the more detail the better.

Hope to see something soon. Winter is upon us!

** Also have a few other questions for anyone that runs or knows a crap ton about the 772D... mainly the electrical let me know, if not i won't ramble about it.

THANKS IN ADVANCE, THIS GROUP IS AWESOME!!!

Case 1845B-Lost all hydraulics-where do I start looking?

Using the skid steer and attempted to perform an 180 degree turn in some soft dirt. Lost all power to wheels immediately and bucket in 15 seconds. Engine running fine. No noises. coupler OK. Hoses OK. Fluid level OK. Tried to tow slowly, but could not due to hydraulic resistance. Loosen lines to pumps and towed slowly into garage. I'm a gearhead, but have not done much hydraulic work. Pulled charge pump. Looks OK, shaft OK, poured oil in inlet and turned shaft by hand and it pumped. What do I look for? Is there anything that commonly breaks on these old units? should I pull the main pump and check the shaft? Any ideas are helpful. Thanks

New trailer with very sensitive brakes

Got a 3.5 month old trailer with very sensitive brakes. The trailer will leave skid marks with just over moderate pressure on the brakes mostly when empty. The truck tires are not locking up. The dealer has adjusted the brakes but that didn't fix it. Any idea where to look. The trailer is a 25 ton, triple axle, air brake, tag trailer. Thanks for your time.

Swing bearing play Hitachi ex200

I am looking at a 1998ex200-5 with 11,400 hrs. I was lucky enough to call a service outfit to ask about an inspection and it turns out they did one on the machine 2 weeks ago. The report was e mailed to me with several issues present. The swing bearing play is noted as R - .060", Front 0.070", L .060" and 0.080". The mechanic noted this as "worn out". Does this spec out as totally pooched and needing immediate attention or would I get a bunch more hours out of it?

A note was made that the pump drive had "no oil" ..... I don't even know exactly what the pump drive does, but this can't be good.

The service manager took my number and said the mech will give me a ring, but I haven't heard back yet.

Regards,

Alan

Hydraulic oil requirements for '08 L190

Pretty silly of my to ask , I guess. Such a simple question, but better safe than sorry.

I have an '08 L190 and the Operators Manual states I should use API CH-4, CG-4 (actually they can't make up their mind which one) SAE 10W-30 Engine Oil.

I was looking online at different oils and comparing prices and I saw a Valvoline? SAE 10W-30 diesel oil. I didn't know they made diesel oil in that weight.

I just wanted to make sure they mean the regular conventional oil for gas engines and not a diesel oil for the Hydraulic oil in my skid steer.

Again, I know, stupid question, but just want to make sure. :o

Thanks for your help!

Home Mortgage Refinance

I'm looking to refinance my home and need recommendations for mortgage companies. I was formerly with Countrywide who I had nothing but praise for but they sold to Bank of America. My experience with BOA has been a nightmare!! Their customer service is horrendous. I'd like to deal with a company where I can talk to someone instead of clicking through a computer generated menu for 10 minutes before I can talk to someone if I'm lucky. Can I get your recommendations?

Hitachi ZX135 vs. 160

Needing an excavator for ranch work. Lots of trenching, picking bunks in 10,000 head feedlot, piling manure, some tree removal, digging in winter water culverts, digging holes to clean up old yardsites/rockpiles etc. Have decided a 135 or 160 size machine would be best. For specs I found the following

135: 18' depth of dig

88 hp 30000lbs

160: 18' depth of dig (I realize this can vary with boom configurations)

100hp (for ex) 33000lbs

Can't really find any info on down pressure for digging or lifting capacity. Bucket sizes/capacities are fairly similar. I feel the smaller machine is a bit more agile and could be better for smaller areas like feedlot pens. For my applications will I miss the extra horsepower and size? ie. when I am digging a pit to pile old buildings in or for tree work? The 135 is also a bit cheaper so I may be able to step up from the ex series to the zx. In any event it won't be new. Looks like price range of 40k will be ten or twelve years old regardless. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

Having problems with CAT hour meter?

Thought I'd post about CAT's typical problem with their hour meters on their earlier A and B machines. Often times you'll see the screen beginning to fade, then a couple numbers begin to disappear, only to end up with nothing showing. I have found this can often be fixed in ten or fifteen minutes without buying a new meter (around $75 bucks now), and your original hours will be back on the display.

Unscrew the little torx screws, pull the meter out, unplug the three wires (note how they are attached) and look through the clear plastic housing to see if the lower circuit board (the one closest to the face) inside has come loose on one side (or both). If it has, I've simply drilled a hole in the middle of the loose side, and take a right angle dentist-like pick and push the board down. Before you pin it down (by drilling a couple holes in the corner and inserting very small screws), plug it back up, hold the circuit board down and see if the hours are displaying. If they are, then pin it. Seal the hole and screws with RTV and you are good to go.

CAT knew they had a problem because the new meters are built so that the circuit board are pinned with molded plastic on the corners and will not vibrate loose.

Career change

The forest industry in Canada has all but died. I'm in my early 50's and looking at operating other heavy equipment. Operating an excavator is something I'm considering but I want to hear from others if getting the training (and it's not cheap) to run an excavator is worth it in terms of the chances of finding decent work in Canada. thanks.

Case 420 questions

We have a new to us Case 420 skidsteer. It is a a tier 3 machine as it has the remote mounted engine oil filter. We did not get an owners manual with. First is how much oil does the engine hold? Do I remove the front lower pan cover to get to the oil drain hose? Also where is the owner's manual to be located at? We were told under the seat and see the hinge on the front of the seat but know of no way to lift seat. Seen a small holder behind the seat that the owner's manual could have been located but nothing in it. Does cab have to come up in order to flip seat up and forward? Thanks for any help. Kevin

I bought a fiat allis dozer that moved and ran well but after i cleaned the filters, now the tracks will not move. It is a 8b powershift and runs very well and the blade hydraulics are strong but i'm now in stationary mode!

Any suggestions?

I've revved it for probably 5 minutes, filled the filter casings with as much oil as I could (they mount horizontal) and dragged it backwards with my kubota.

backhoe side shift problems

Heh guys, I have a ws500 articulated loader with what appears to be an original factory backhoe. It has what I would describe as a manual side shift. There are two hydraulic rams that lock to the frame by pressure only. There is no hydraulic side shift I have to pull myself across with the hoe. These rams only have one hard pipe each so I can only assume they release through pressure release. Anyway, for the life of me I can't get them to release. I can crack the pipes and push the rams back but as soon as I rev to pull it across they lock back on. There is a pipe going from the valve to another control valve which is part of the slew and slows the slew as I reach full lock so I think the issue might be there somewhere. My question at this point is, does anyone know if there is a sequence that has to be followed for the sideshift to release?

need help Mitsubishi ws500

Hi guys. I have an old ws500. 5t articulated loader with a backhoe. It's quite rare so hard to find info on it. Anyway, it has a quick hitch on the front similar to the cat integrated tool carrier system. Possibly even the same as I believe cat and Mitsubishi were in bed when they built this. The attachment hooks on the forklift currently are made out of 32mm plate. 1 1/4 inches? I am about to get brackets made up to connect my 4 in 1. I was going to use the same 32mm plate but I saw a photo of the bucket for the it28g, same size bucket at around 2m wide, 7 foot? appears they have reinforced the top hook and holes for the hydraulic pins and used thinner plate. This might save some cash. Wondering if anyone had any advice about how I should go about this. Thanks.

Bladder accumulator charge pressure

Hi guys,

Have a question regarding accummulator setup on an excavator. Basically we have a bladder type nitrogen accumulator which is to be fitted on the aux hydraulic piping of a Cat 312 excavator (on the high pressure side). We are attaching a breaker to it which will be used at least 8-10hrs a day. The operating pressure of the breaker is 175bar.

My question is should we not put the accumulator on the low pressure side of the aux piping?

What should the nitrogen precharge be for the accumulator in the first place? I have heard various numbers from 20-80bar. but I am totally confused what to do.

I understand that you need the accumulator to compensate for the pressure drop in the system when the breaker is on its upstroke, but i can't figure out where to install the accumulator and what pressure to use.

Any help and advise would be high appreciated guys as i dont wanna install it somewhere wrong and cause even more damage as i am only putting it there as our mechanic says else the pump gets damaged since we are operating the breaker non stop!

Thanks

1965 D7 Cat parts lookup!

dimanche 21 septembre 2014

The sportsmen club I belong to has a 1965 Cat D7 that the pony motor wouldn't start so it sat for over three years.

Another member had his dozer repaired by a GREAT heavy equpment mechanic so the club hired that mechanic to get the dozer running. He did by sanding the points in the magneto with 80 grit sandpaper and it fired right up!

The object of getting it running was to get the old girl on level ground to be able to safetly work on it.

The club president decided to convert it from a pony motor to an electric starter. The heavy equipment mechanic pulled the pony motor and bolted the new electric starter up.

BUT, that's as far as it's gotten!

I've been fabricating blank off plates for the intake and for the coolant connector block between the cylinder heads.

BUT I've run into a brick wall with getting the correct gaskets! I asked the Cat dealer where to look for a model number on the dozer and I can't find ANY of data plates in the places he said to look!

I did find one data plate on the left side of the engine block at the back side of it. Said number is 48A6120 . Does that mean anything?

I'm at the end of my rope trying to find gaskets for the old girl.

PLUS I'm at loss as to what size cables to run from the batteries to the starter. The heavy equipment mechanic said we needed at least 1600 to 2000 CCA batteries to start it. What gage cables are required to carry that much amperage?

I think it should have a positive cable disconnect so that the power to the starter can be disarmed when not in use or in case the starter stick on. Where can I get a disconnect switch that'll handle 2000 CCA?

Any and all assisance will be greatly appreciated.
